Use of acronyms in quotation marks

Could anyone please tell me if it's all right to use acronyms in quotation marks ("... the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or 'NASA'"), or should the acronym just be in parentheses, lacking quotation marks or the conjunction "or" after the full name?

List of people who died climbing Mount Everest table in Android app

The wikitable in the "Fatalities" section List of people who died climbing Mount Everest article is not showing correctly in the Android app (OnePlus 7 Pro), but displays fine if I open it in Chrome on the same phone. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the app or the formatting of the table itself, but if anyone knows of a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. TheMrP (talk) 06:35, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Your IP address has no other edits and Lawrence Lartey works fine. I guess you are User:Ojekooradio and refer to User:Ojekooradio/sandbox. How can i identify the successor of my old account?

That is, if you changed from OldUserName to NewUserName, you would write:

This user previously used the account [[User:OldUserName]].

at the new user page (named User:NewUserName).

You could additionally write:

{{Old account|NewUserName}}

at the old user page (named User:OldUserName).

Downloading a table

I assume you mean one of the tables at List_of_semiconductor_fabrication_plants. AFAIK there is no simple way of doing this, or at least not easy unless you have a database server that is capable of importing Wikisyntax-Tables. Victor Schmidt (talk) 11:15, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Deleting pages

I have been collecting various links in order to write some articles at a later date. There are many duplicate pages though, I cannot figure out how to delete a page or book.

I would like to donate to Wikipedia but do not wish to give my PAN No. Nowhere anybody asks for this in India. Accessing Wikidata

Data held at Wikidata may be accessed by various means, such as

OK, thanks. However, it doesn't suggest that any formatting options are available, so it doesn't help with the problem that I'm really trying to solve, which is how to suppress the two layers of <span>...</span> tags that {{#statements:...}} always seems to wrap its output in. Taking my {{#statements:P106|from=Q42}} example from above (since it illustrates it quite well), this emits

I believe you need to use #property (documented very sparsely at d:Wikidata:How to use data on Wikimedia projects#Raw value) instead if you want the raw value. * Pppery * _{it has begun...} 20:13, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Cronyism

Hi there,

I read Cronyism and found that Nepal is missing in the Asian countries' list. I am a native (citizen) of Nepal. Nepal has always been one of the most corrupt country in the world before (during rana & shah dynasty) and after the restoration of democracy.

It is also worth noting that Nepotism is on rise in recent years -- Nepalese politicians have been proudly practicing nepotism since so long. Becasue of that majority of intellectuals and students are leaving Nepal since they do not see their future in Nepal -- one of the most corrupt third world country.

Therefore, please enlist Nepal for Cronyism and Nepotism.

request edit

I attempted to edit info on a page that created a security risk for a federal judge (I am an employee for that Court). The info was promptly changed back. I attempted to request the edit through the "talk" feature on the page, which went ignored. The info is the date and place of birth, which is not widely published or relevant. Hello, IP user. I have removed the birthdate from Mary J. Schoelen, according to WP:BLPPRIVACY. I suspect that what happened is that Evrik saw that an unregistered editor had removed information from the article without any edit summary explaining why, and thought that it was vandalism, though that is only a guess. Please note that, as an employee of the court, you are regarded by Wikipedia as being a paid editor, and must make a declaration to that effect - see the link for the details. This will require you to register an account (as only registered accounts have user pages). The account must be personal to you - shared accounts are not permitted - but you are not required to use your real name. You mustn't use a name which suggests that the account represents the court, though: it is your personal account. For any further changes you want to make to that article, or any other connected with your employment, you should make an edit request on the talk page of the article in question. You sort of did that, but you did it on your user talk page, User talk:173.66.158.250, instead of on the article's talk page Talk:Mary J. Schoelen. Hello, IP user. Another option is to send a request to OTRS, by sending an email to info-en@wikimedia.org This will accomplish two goals. First, you won't have to register as a paid editor. Second, based upon the nature of your request, you would like to keep it as private as possible and posting it publicly as a requested edit, anyone can see it, somewhat defeating the purpose. In contrast, emails sent to OTRS go to a small group of agents who have signed confidentiality agreements not to share the information. Request for removal of birthdates is a common request at OTRS. Html table help

Not even sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm working on getting Carlos Kleiber discography up to FL standard and at the moment I'm not sure how to format the table for a certain section: Under "Live Recordings" there are entries for Mahler and Mozart both in 1967 (from the same concert) but I think it would make more sense to combine the release section for these entries somehow but I'm really not sure what that would look like. Any ideas? (Also the formatting for entries after Mahler is inconsistent with the above at the moment, so don't take note of that!) Aza24 (talk) 00:48, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Aza24: If so, you would do so by changing the first:

to:

| rowspan="2" | 1967

(for Mahler) and then removing the second | 1967 (19 lines later; for Mozart). This says that you want to repeat that first value for the next row. It seems to me that your signed name suggests that you are employed by the organisation. This means you need an account must declare that on your user page prior to the draft article being reviewed and migrated to be an article. you also must use WP:AFC as you route in

You need to perform research. There are many essays on how to create decent articles on Wikipedia. This is one I wrote.

Find excellence of referencing, Marshall the facts in the references into a storyboard, and write the draft based on that storyboard, using the references as citations. Read WP:REFB and WP:CITE

Creating an article is the hardest thing to do on Wikipedia and required mature neutrality. If you feel as an employee that you cannot do that please do not even start Fiddle Faddle 09:28, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Requests to edits have not been answered on multiple talk sections of pages

Hi, I requested edits and initiated chat on talk pages on Jazz Pakistan, JazzCash, Mobilink, Warid and Warid Telecom to add more relevant information keeping it as non-promotional as possible while also requesting removal of some old misleading/irrelevant information keeping in mind that some information is still relevant no matter its past.

While I have been answered on some of the aforementioned pages and some of my edits have been incorporated but rest have not been answered, specially on Jazz Pakistan. The last edits I made were straightforward reversed without being read thoroughly, I also proposed them on talk their talk pages but I have not gotten any response. I understand that there may be some issue when adding e.g. when listing Products and Services and its against Wikipedia's T&C but not all edits proposed should've been reversed.

Edits proposed on Jazz Pakistan talk section can be seen here, there is no response after 27th July.

Proposed changes on Mobilink article talk section are visible here, there is no response after 27th July.

Also proposed changes on Warid Pakistan talk section here, received no help after 27th July.

Requested changes on Warid Telecom but got removed on being promotional, while some part may look promotional rest should've been added. Here are the changes I made. And so the case with JazzCash article.

I'm sorry no one has gotten around to your edit requests yet. As the request edit template says, "The requested edits backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient." If you look at the requested edits category, the oldest one is from June 11, and there are quite a few older than yours. The reality of Wikipedia is that we are all volunteers, we each work on whatever grabs our interest, and responding appropriately to edit requests from people with a conflict of interest can be a time consuming process and is one that requires a high level of skill in analyzing sources, working with content, and dealing diplomatically with people who have a COI. It is not a task that many people are well suited for or interested in. Honestly, I'm impressed it isn't worse than it is, given the status of some of our other backlogs around here. I see @Zoozaz1: has helped you with edit requests on Talk:Jazz (company) before, perhaps they would be willing to take a look at these additional ones. ~ ONUnicorn^{(Talk|Contribs)}problem solving 15:55, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Please keep the minimum amount of money donation from 0. So that every little sent can be helpful. That little money everyone will send will become a huge amount too. Many people in India will not be able to give 118rs that is the minimum amount, but many millions can give you 10-20rs as donation. We here at the individual WMF projects have no involvement with it. I also have read on the Wikipedia/Wikimedia donation pages at some point in the past (but cannot find that page) that small payments are used by credit card scammers to check a stolen card info is valid. Setting a minimum donation amount therefore discourages such "donations", though I am not sure why this is useful (maybe because most of these eventually get refunded to the bank once the card theft is reported?). Greetings, long ago I saw a template (most probably, or a script) somewhere that shows an editor's contribution value in currency. Most probably it was a calculation from edit count. We don't appear to have an article about (or even mentioning) Marleyboy, so there is nowhere for that information to go. If you think we should have an article about him, then somebody could write one, provided he meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability - most performers in the world do not. Generally this requires that at least three people who have no connection with Marleyboy, and not prompted or fed information from him, have chosen to write about him, and been published somewhere with a reputation for editorial control and fact checking. That means that nothing said, written or published by him or his associates, nothing based on interviews or press releases, and nothing in social media, blogs, forums or wikis, will count towards notability. Category: Films set in [year]

For articles about movies filmed in a specific year (e.g: 1912), is it proper to also include 'Category:Films set in (e.g: 1912)' -- specifically: Saved from the Titanic? To me, "set in" implies a non-contemporary setting. --2606:A000:1126:28D:99CE:F64A:28BB:E9C7 (talk) 20:28, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Building off of TimTempleton's answer, including the "set in" category is fine, even if it seems redundant in that given situation. Not necessarily. Many films span an indeterminate time span that can include several years. I have put in the charity section (subheading Patronages) section of this article a direct link on the words "Valerie Middleton" - Valerie Middleton to go straight to the section titled "Parents of Michael Middleton" on the Family of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge page. Photogenic

I just wanted to run it by fresh pairs of eyes. Peer-reviewed articles and books reveal many definitions of photogenic, without a single predominant one. Photogenic (disambiguation) exists, so I don't know if turning the former into a list of possible definitions makes sense. I also think turning it into, say, a page about photogenic drawings kind of violate the principle of least astonishment. Before I nominate this for AfD, did my trawl through sources miss anything? @Catawhompus: font size is controlled by your browser. For most browsers, hit CTRL+ to increase the font size and CTRL- to decrease the font size. "CTRL+" means depress and hold the ctrl key and then hit the plus key -Arch dude (talk) 03:53, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

infobox at end of article -- by reader preference

I find the infobox to many articles disturbing. Can I, as a reader set my preference such that the infobox appears at the end of the article, as a kind of summary? The article is getting lots of editing and edit-warring, so make sure you are seeing the latest version of the page by clearing your cache (usually with F5) and that you are actually looking at Wikipedia, and not something like Google's "knowledge graph" or some other mirror site, over which we have no control. I have noticed on one of your "In the News" front page articles that it seems to be making non-neutral claims supported by spurious images regarding the political situation in Belarus:

When in fact this image shows mass-protests in Bangalore, and is even labelled "Miting Bangalor 2020".

This article appears to be propaganda for pro-democracy regime change in Belorus along similar lines to the various "Colour Revolutions" seen elsewhere. It makes claims over human rights abuses and emphasises Alexander Lukashenko's perfectly legitimate and very healthy skepticism over the seriousness of Covid-19.

This seems troubling enough that it is in an article, and even more troubling that it has made its way onto the front page of English Wikipedia.

Has the Eglish Wikipedia's Front Page become the political mouthpiece for such things? Given that it is first and foremost a neutral, fact-presenting encyclopedia, "In the News" should be extremely wary of treading on any such biased waters.

I also found out that our Brand name is not mentioned in the given list. I tried to edit however I saw that I can only edit my school page has a Wikipedia page.

List articles like the one you mention are not for listing every possible member of the list in existence. They are only for listing those members which have Wikipedia articles(we don't have mere "pages"). In order for your school to be mentioned there, there must be an article about it, and in order for there to be an article about it, it must be shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources (not the school website, staff interviews, brief mentions, routine announcements, etc.) to meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable organization. Wikipedia is not interested in what an organization wants to say about itself. Not every school merits a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia has no interest in enhancing search results for your school or helping to spread the word about it. We are only interested in what independent reliable sources have chosen on their own to say about your school.

@JIP: Apparently June 4 is correct according to the sources. June 2 came from IMDb, which was not even self-consistent there (the bio included a detailed description of her death on June 4). Imelda Marcos MOS issues

Hi, at article Imelda Marcos users are pushing to add another infobox to the article, and have implemented it here [3] as an infobox within an infobox. Looks funky to me per style, but might be ok. Please comment Talk:Imelda_Marcos#Re:_Placing_an_criminal_infobox_on_the_Imelda_Marcos_page there. They feel it is important to add that she is a criminal (I am not opposed to adding that), but I am unclear how to implement it, and it appears the other editors, particularly Chieharumachi (talk · contribs) are as well. (assuming I am correct that an infox shouldnt be put inside an infobox). The infobox content it needed for WP:RGW purposes, but that is another point, and not a big one to me. Thanks!
