How can I get a template for writing my biography?
Hi, can someone assist me by putting my biography on Wikipedia or send me a template for writing my biography?

Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
• For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
• Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
• If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
• Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
• For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.

Use of acronyms in quotation marks

Could anyone please tell me if it's all right to use acronyms in quotation marks ("... the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or 'NASA'"), or should the acronym just be in parentheses, lacking quotation marks or the conjunction "or" after the full name?

(Edit: Added ellipsis and non-breaking space at beginning of quote.)

(Second edit: Removed extra space accidentally added in previous edit, sorry about that.)

(Third edit: Placed edit notes on different lines.)

(Fourth edit: Sorry if I added an extra space between my original post here and the reply. If it was the replier, then nothing against him, since it was his reply; it's just that I would hate to even slightly alter somebody else's reply.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 04:24, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No. It should be something like (full sentence to avoid further quote mark confusion): "He worked at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)." Clarityfiend (talk) 05:34, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Clarityfiend: Thanks. Sorry about the quotation mark confusion.(Edit: Added reply template, sorry not to do that earlier.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 12:02, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Clarityfiend: Could you please tell me if you usually put a space between your replies on the talk page? I fear I may have accidentally added one between my original post here and your reply. Sorry about that.--Thylacine24 (talk) 12:26, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Thylacine24: I'm not sure what you mean by "a space between your replies". However, it is generally not considered a good idea to alter your text after you've received a response. It makes things harder to follow. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:44, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Clarityfiend: I should have written "a space between my first post here and your first response." Sorry about that. Anyway, I've done that plenty of times in the past, but I'll try to stop now. Of course, there's also the possibility that I might get a response just as I'm editing it when I don't think anyone's responded yet. Also, could you please tell me if I should add more replies in lieu of edits to the original, to make myself clear and/or apologize about something?--Thylacine24 (talk) 18:23, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The wikitable in the "Fatalities" section List of people who died climbing Mount Everest article is not showing correctly in the Android app (OnePlus 7 Pro), but displays fine if I open it in Chrome on the same phone. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the app or the formatting of the table itself, but if anyone knows of a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. That is, if you changed from OldUserName to NewUserName, you would write:
This user previously used the account User:OldUserName.
at the new user page (named User:NewUserName).
You could additionally write:
NewUserName

I assume you mean one of the tables at List_of_semiconductor_fabrication_plants. AFAIK there is no simple way of doing this, or at least not easy unless you have a database server that is capable of importing Wikisyntax-Tables. Victor Schmidt (talk) 11:15, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You can just select the table and copy it to excel. Danski454 (talk) 11:55, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Excel can also import data from web pages in a number of ways – see the Data menu and Excel help. It's changed since the last time I used it, so I can't give you a more detailed answer. You might get one at WP:RD/C. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 23:00, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Accessing Wikidata

OK, thanks. However, it doesn't suggest that any formatting options are available, so it doesn't help with the problem that I'm really trying to solve, which is how to suppress the two layers of <span>...</span> tags that always seems to wrap its output in. Taking my example from above (since it illustrates it quite well), this emits
<span><span>playwright</span>, <span>screenwriter</span>, <span>novelist</span>, <span>children&#39;s writer</span>, <span>science fiction writer</span>, <span>comedian</span>, <span>writer</span></span>

- is there any way of stripping those? If there is, it would be useful for Help talk:Template#Greater than/less than? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:31, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cronyism

Hi there,

I read Cronyism and found that Nepal is missing in the Asian countries' list. I am a native (citizen) of Nepal. Nepal has always been one of the most corrupt country in the world before (during rana & shah dynasty) and after the restoration of democracy.

It is also worth noting that Nepotism is on rise in recent years -- Nepalese politicians have been proudly practicing nepotism since so long. Becasue of that majority of intellectuals and students are leaving Nepal since they do not see their future in Nepal -- one of the most corrupt third world country.

Therefore, please enlist Nepal for Cronyism and Nepotism.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:81:4000:D5F0:2054:89E7:AF7D:F46A (talk) 21:35, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

request edit

I attempted to edit info on a page that created a security risk for a federal judge (I am an employee for that Court). The info was promptly changed back. I attempted to request the edit through the "talk" feature on the page, which went ignored. The info is the date and place of birth, which is not widely published or relevant. How can I address this issue? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.158.250 (talk) 22:25, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. I have removed the birthdate from Mary J. Schoelen, according to WP:BLPPRIVACY. I suspect that what happened is that Evrik saw that an unregistered editor had removed information from the article without any edit summary explaining why, and thought that it was vandalism, though that is only a guess. Please note that, as an employee of the court, you are regarded by Wikipedia as being a paid editor, and must make a declaration to that effect - see the link for the details. This will require you to register an account (as only registered accounts have user pages). The account must be personal to you - shared accounts are not permitted - but you are not required to use your real name. You mustn't use a name which suggests that the account represents the court, though: it is your personal account. For any further changes you want to make to that article, or any other connected with your employment, you should make an edit request on the talk page of the article in question. You sort of did that, but you did it on your user talk page, User talk:173.66.158.250, instead of on the article's talk page Talk:Mary J. Schoelen. If you add the template Edit request to your request, it will get put on a list of waiting requests. --ColinFine (talk) 22:49, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, IP user. Another option is to send a request to OTRS, by sending an email to info-en@wikimedia.org This will accomplish two goals. First, you won't have to register as a paid editor. Second, based upon the nature of your request, you would like to keep it as private as possible and posting it publicly as a requested edit, anyone can see it, somewhat defeating the purpose. In contrast, emails sent to OTRS go to a small group of agents who have signed confidentiality agreements not to share the information. Request for removal of birthdates is a common request at OTRS. I personally handled quite a few such requests.--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:57, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Html table help

Not even sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm working on getting Carlos Kleiber discography up to FL standard and at the moment I'm not sure how to format the table for a certain section: Under "Live Recordings" there are entries for Mahler and Mozart both in 1967 (from the same concert) but I think it would make more sense to combine the release section for these entries somehow but I'm really not sure what that would look like. Any ideas? (Also the formatting for entries after Mahler is inconsistent with the above at the moment, so don't take note of that!) Aza24 (talk) 00:48, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aza24, are you thinking of having the year share the same cell? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:09, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Aza24: If so, you would do so by changing the first:
| 1967
to:
| rowspan="2" | 1967
(for Mahler) and then removing the second | 1967 (19 lines later; for Mozart). This says that you want to repeat that first value for the next row. I wouldn't say it's necessary when you only have a single occurence of a value that needs to span multiple rows. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 06:53, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenryuu and AlanM1: Thank you both! I think that should work fine. Aza24 (talk) 20:55, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

creating an historical wikipedia page

It seems to me that your signed name suggests that you are employed by the organisation. This means you need an account must declare that on your user page prior to the draft article being reviewed and migrated to be an article. you also must use WP:AFC as you route in
You need to perform research. There are many essays on how to create decent articles on Wikipedia. This is one I wrote.
Find excellence of referencing, Marshall the facts in the references into a storyboard, and write the draft based on that storyboard, using the references as citations. Read WP:REFB and WP:CITE
Creating an article is the hardest thing to do on Wikipedia and required mature neutrality. If you feel as an employee that you cannot do that please do not even start Fiddle Faddle 09:28, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to edits have not been answered on multiple talk sections of pages

Hi, I requested edits and initiated chat on talk pages on Jazz Pakistan, JazzCash, Mobilink, Warid and Warid Telecom to add more relevant information keeping it as non-promotional as possible while also requesting removal of some old misleading/irrelevant information keeping in mind that some information is still relevant no matter its past.

While I have been answered on some of the aforementioned pages and some of my edits have been incorporated but rest have not been answered, specially on Jazz Pakistan. The last edits I made were straightforward reversed without being read thoroughly, I also proposed them on talk their talk pages but I have not gotten any response. I understand that there may be some issue when adding e.g. when listing Products and Services and its against Wikipedia's T&C but not all edits proposed should've been reversed.

Edits proposed on Jazz Pakistan talk section can be seen here, there is no response after 27th July.

Proposed changes on Mobilink article talk section are visible here, there is no response after 27th July.

Also proposed changes on Warid Pakistan talk section here, received no help after 27th July.

Requested changes on Warid Telecom but got removed on being promotional, while some part may look promotional rest should've been added. Here are the changes I made. And so the case with JazzCash article.

It would be helpful if someone could answer on aforementioned talk pages and redo my edits visible in edit history by my name. Thank You. Talhatauqeer (talk) 08:03, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry no one has gotten around to your edit requests yet. As the request edit template says, "The requested edits backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient." If you look at the requested edits category, the oldest one is from June 11, and there are quite a few older than yours. The reality of Wikipedia is that we are all volunteers, we each work on whatever grabs our interest, and responding appropriately to edit requests from people with a conflict of interest can be a time consuming process and is one that requires a high level of skill in analyzing sources, working with content, and dealing diplomatically with people who have a COI. It is not a task that many people are well suited for or interested in. Honestly, I'm impressed it isn't worse than it is, given the status of some of our other backlogs around here. I see @Zoozaz1: has helped you with edit requests on Talk:Jazz (company) before, perhaps they would be willing to take a look at these additional ones. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:55, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Talhatauqeer, I think the reason the changes are taking so long is that you are implementing them without specifying on the talk page the changes you want to be made, only linking a version where editors can't see the specific changes you made. Zoozaz1 (talk) 03:09, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Donation

Please keep the minimum amount of money donation from 0. So that every little sent can be helpful. That little money everyone will send will become a huge amount too. Many people in India will not be able to give 118rs that is the minimum amount, but many millions can give you 10-20rs as donation. So please look into it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.176.65.83 (talk) 08:56, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your interest in donating. Please see WP:DONATE for information about donating and how to contact the Wikimedia Foundation, who manages donations. We here at the individual WMF projects have no involvement with it. If there is a minimum, it's likely because there is a cost to processing donations, and it would not be helpful to anyone (except the payment processors) to donate Rs.20 if the payment processor charges Rs.50 to process it. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 09:07, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I also have read on the Wikipedia/Wikimedia donation pages at some point in the past (but cannot find that page) that small payments are used by credit card scammers to check a stolen card info is valid. Setting a minimum donation amount therefore discourages such "donations", though I am not sure why this is useful (maybe because most of these eventually get refunded to the bank once the card theft is reported?). We don't appear to have an article about (or even mentioning) Marleyboy, so there is nowhere for that information to go. If you think we should have an article about him, then somebody could write one, provided he meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability - most performers in the world do not. Generally this requires that at least three people who have no connection with Marleyboy, and not prompted or fed information from him, have chosen to write about him, and been published somewhere with a reputation for editorial control and fact checking. That means that nothing said, written or published by him or his associates, nothing based on interviews or press releases, and nothing in social media, blogs, forums or wikis, will count towards notability. See your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 18:29, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category: Films set in [year]

For articles about movies filmed in a specific year (e.g: 1912), is it proper to also include 'Category:Films set in (e.g: 1912)' -- specifically: Saved from the Titanic? To me, "set in" implies a non-contemporary setting. --2606:A000:1126:28D:99CE:F64A:28BB:E9C7 (talk) 20:28, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question, but filmed in and set in are different things, so the dates in the categories don't have to match. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:37, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Building off of TimTempleton's answer, including the "set in" category is fine, even if it seems redundant in that given situation. Someone might be looking for a film set in 1912 and that would be pertinent information to allow them to find said film. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:08, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify: for a contemporary film released today, would you state that it was "set in 2020"? Likewise, would a film produced in 1912 about a 1912 event be "set in 1912"? --2606:A000:1126:28D:99CE:F64A:28BB:E9C7 (talk) 04:53, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily. Many films span an indeterminate time span that can include several years. Unless the year in which the story is set is made unambiguously clear within context, or you can cite a reliable source for that information, I would cautious about claiming it was set in any specific year.--Shantavira|feed me 07:53, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There's something odd with this navbox template – clicking on the View, Talk, or Edit tabs takes you to create Template:Alabama (band) 1977–1989 singles keo day roecehi instead. Anybody know what's up with this and how to fix it? Thanks. Richard3120 (talk) 21:02, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Richard3120. It was vandalism to the template last October(!). I've reverted it, but there's no point in putting a warning on the IP's talk page, because it's unlikely that the same person will use that IP address. --ColinFine (talk) 21:59, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: thank you very much. I suspected that vandalism was involved, but I couldn't find out how to get rid of it. Richard3120 (talk) 22:13, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I just opened the template for edit, and it was obvious what had been inserted where. Then I looked at its history, and found that had been inserted by an IP last year. --ColinFine (talk) 22:42, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know location of book publisher

The book I'm trying to cite is here; the publisher is a Hungarian one called "Corvina", and I don't know where it's headquartered. Could anyone please help me on this?

(Edit: Just to be clear, could anyone please confirm that "location" in the "cite book" template does indeed refer to the location of the publisher? That seems to be the case according to this section of the "cite book" page, but I just want to be sure that it was only referring to "news stories with a dateline", and that I shouldn't replace "location" with "publication-place" in the template. Sorry not to ask this earlier.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 00:44, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to run it by fresh pairs of eyes. Peer-reviewed articles and books reveal many definitions of photogenic, without a single predominant one. Photogenic (disambiguation) exists, so I don't know if turning the former into a list of possible definitions makes sense. I also think turning it into, say, a page about photogenic drawings kind of violate the principle of least astonishment. Before I nominate this for AfD, did my trawl through sources miss anything? Thanks, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 03:05, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rotideypoc41352. I don't understand why this is a Wikipedia article: NOTDICTIONARY. (And yes, I've seen the comment on the talk page saying that it is more than one). It is a completely unsourced essay on what the word means and what factors might go into the definition. Please AFD it. --ColinFine (talk) 08:58, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ITN

Hello

I have noticed on one of your "In the News" front page articles that it seems to be making non-neutral claims supported by spurious images regarding the political situation in Belarus:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Belarusian_protests

Showing this image supporting its claims for mass-protests in Minsk:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Miting_Bangalor_2020.jpg

When in fact this image shows mass-protests in Bangalore, and is even labelled "Miting Bangalor 2020".

This article appears to be propaganda for pro-democracy regime change in Belorus along similar lines to the various "Colour Revolutions" seen elsewhere. It makes claims over human rights abuses and emphasises Alexander Lukashenko's perfectly legitimate and very healthy skepticism over the seriousness of Covid-19.

This seems troubling enough that it is in an article, and even more troubling that it has made its way onto the front page of English Wikipedia.

Has the Eglish Wikipedia's Front Page become the political mouthpiece for such things? Given that it is first and foremost a neutral, fact-presenting encyclopedia, "In the News" should be extremely wary of treading on any such biased waters.

Mention of Brand Name

Hi

Greetings!

My name is Vikash Singh & I represent India's One of the Best International School. I was digging some information on "Top International School in India" and came across your resource web page.

I also found out that our Brand name is not mentioned in the given list. I tried to edit however I saw that I can only edit my school page has a Wikipedia page.

Is it possible for me to get featured on the Wikipedia page without having a brand wiki page?

I am sure there must be other pages on schools in India, we would like to mention our brand name in those pages also. Are there any kind of collaborations we can work upon?

Best Vikash Singh — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vikash291983 (talkcontribs) 12:05, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, there's nothing that you can do. Just hope that other, disinterested editors decide that your school is notable (according to Wikipedia's criteria) and create an article about it
You may have noticed that various commercial enterprises promise to produce articles, if you pay them to do so. Don't fall for this. The article may or may not be created; if it is created, it may well be deleted. -- Hoary (talk) 12:11, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Vikash291983 (ec) If you represent this school, you are required by Wikipedia's Terms of Use to read and formally comply with the paid editing policy and declare that status. You should also read about conflict of interest.
List articles like the one you mention are not for listing every possible member of the list in existence. They are only for listing those members which have Wikipedia articles(we don't have mere "pages"). In order for your school to be mentioned there, there must be an article about it, and in order for there to be an article about it, it must be shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources (not the school website, staff interviews, brief mentions, routine announcements, etc.) to meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable organization. Wikipedia is not interested in what an organization wants to say about itself. Not every school merits a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia has no interest in enhancing search results for your school or helping to spread the word about it. We are only interested in what independent reliable sources have chosen on their own to say about your school.
If your school does merit a Wikipedia article, frankly, you shouldn't ideally be the one to write it. 331dot (talk) 12:12, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Antifa

Wikipedia is not a forum for far-right fascism.
The following is a closed discussion. Please do not modify it.

Why does this site completely misrepresent to say it nicely, on what Antifa really is? You simply attempt to disregard all blame of terrorism by Antifa by blaming the right wing extremists, which has nothing to do with Antifa or what they represents they stand only to cause chaos and disrupt by use of force, cancel culture, and out right terrorism. It’s sad how far sites like this will go to misinform people. In no way do I associate all democrats with Antifa, but I do believe the democrats use them as a weapon against conservatives, which you conveniently ignore. They have a record of violence against reporters, conservative speakers, and sometime even moderate democrats who don’t agree with all their tactics. Sad how either ignorant or outright lie to the public, expecting them to believe you. You discredit the people, your site, your families and yourself. As for the organization of Antifa, you and this site know full and well it is an organization with leadership and structure. It’s just not publicized on purpose. You can watch any event and see the same people in charge at every event. I’ve watched hundreds of videos and noticed that myself. If you follow the money which is hidden well, everyone knows that George Soros is heavily involved. In his own words thanks for proving that idiots can put anything on the internet as truth, with no facts and that widipedia is the enemy of the people in the United States period. Wikipedia just wants to also cause harm to democracy and our way of life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.170.222.151 (talk) 23:49, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
