The Brownsville Texas Incident of 1906: It was LTC (Ret) William Baker's tireless research and persuasive legal brief, while stationed at the Pentagon in 1972, that convinced the Secretary of the Army to reverse President Theodore Roosevelt’s decision to discharge without honor the 167 black soldiers of the First Battalion Twenty-fifth Infantry accused of shooting up the town of Brownsville Texas in 1906. Colonel Baker certified the lone survivor, Dorsie Willis in 1973, who received $25,000 in compensation after 66 years. This reversal is documented in the New York Times obituary of Colonel Baker by Sam Roberts, October 8, 2018, and by Secretary of the Army Howard H. Calloway in 1972, who honored Baker with the Pace Award and the Legion of Merit. Colonel Baker's book on the topic, The Brownsville Texas Incident of 1906: The True and Tragic Story of a Black Battalion's Wrongful Disgrace and Ultimate Redemption, was published May 5, 2020, Red Engine Press. It won a Silver Medal from the Military Writers Society of America, September 2020. Thank you for your response. Dr. Bettye Foster Baker. |

Media namespace
What are pages in the Media namespace written in? Are they written in wikitext? If not, what are they written in? Gioguch (talk) 02:49, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Gioguch: I'm not aware of a "media" namespace. for media files in the "file" namespace, see help:media. For a list of namespaces, see Wikipedia:namespace. Media files are not usually "written" by humans. Instead, the are created by audio or video software. -Arch dude (talk) 03:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Arch dude and Gioguch: The namespace "Media" appears to be an alias of the file namespace. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 06:01, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Victor Schmidt mobil, Arch dude, and Gioguch: A link with the "Media:" prefix bypasses the file description page, and takes you directly to the image. Click on these links to see the difference: File:Example.jpg and Media:Example.jpg -- John of Reading (talk) 07:03, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @John of Reading, Victor Schmidt mobil, and Arch dude: So if the "Media:" prefix takes you directly to the image, then is that page written in wikitext? If not, what script is it written in? Gioguch (talk) 16:01, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Arch dude and Gioguch: The namespace "Media" appears to be an alias of the file namespace. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 06:01, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, all. @Gioguch: The various media you upload into the "file" namespace can be retrieved and viewed three ways. When retrieved with the "File:" prefix into a wikipedia page using wikitext, you get an embeddable (and possibly converted) version. When retrieved into a browser window using the "File:" prefix, you get the image embedded into its description page. When using the "Media:" prefix, the image file itself is sent from the server to you browser without embellishment. The image file itself is not usually written by a human, but is generated by the appropriate image creation software (e.g., Inkscape generates SVG and the software in you digital camera generates JPEG). Images may be in any of the formats listed at Help:Files. -Arch dude (talk) 16:03, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, all. @Arch dude: Now it totally makes sense why it's not possible to create or delete pages in the "Media:" namespace, because it is not generated by human, but is automatically generated. Gioguch (talk) 16:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Suspicious
Hi, I just wanted to ask if two accounts with the exact same userpage appear suspicious? By chance, while I was welcoming and checking for possible vandalism from new users, I came accross two users with the same userpage having almost the same brief description: "Editor at the European Investment Bank." Is this concerning? What links can I read regarding proper use of accounts. Thank you. Chinogrids (talk) 14:01, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- It looks like Praxidicae already left a link on your talk page to our page on Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry, which describes proper and improper use of multiple accounts. Do you still have questions after reading that page? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:23, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Good morning, I am a longtime supporter, with my money, of Wikipedia. I have been trying to figure out how to make a login so I can become a contributor. I am self-employed so I do not have a government, School, or large corporation email. I have tried a couple of times and I cannot figure out how to do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.121.247.230 (talk) 14:13, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- You do not need to have a government, school, or corporate e-mail to create an account. You don't need to provide any e-mail address at all if you don't want to, although providing one will allow you to recover your account should you forget your password. If you want to provide an e-mail address so you can recover your password, any e-mail address will do. If you don't have an e-mail address, there are free services like hotmail or mail.com which will work. All you need to do to create an account is Click here, choose a username, and create a password. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:30, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
updating the information on my company because its not correct
my company information is wrong how do I let them know or update it myself — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.200.101.195 (talk) 14:30, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Visit the talk page of the article about your company, type
{{request edit}}
, then say something like "X should be changed to Y because..." and cite some sources to verify the new information. Keep in mind that sources that are not affiliated with the company are preferred (rather than the company's website or press releases). ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:35, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Also, please mention that you are affiliated with this company for transparency's sake, per Conflict of Interest Policy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flowernerd (talk • contribs) 22:30, 23 September 2020 (UTC) Edit: I'm an idiot and I can't figure out how to make that link be a link. - Flowernerd, you aren't an idiot. I fixed the link for you. The problem was you forgot a closing bracket, and had a bracket where you wanted a pipe. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
How to
how do I delete my Wikipedia search history? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.11.10.224 (talk) 14:44, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Wikipedia does not keep a log of your search history. You may need to clear your browser's history, and if you use Google for searching it may keep a separate log of your Google search history. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:38, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
How do I add information?
I was searching for information on Wallace Beery's early films. On 'Partners in Crime' you have the line: No synopsis available'. In searching for that info, I landed on an imaged page from April, 1928 of Variety, with a full review/synopsis. I would like to add it to your page. How do I do it?32.216.132.134 (talk) 14:55, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't see that line in the article on Partners in Crime (1928 film), however I do see that it is missing a synopsis or plot summary. As for how to add it, read the article from Variety, then summarize it in your own words, adding a citation indicating that you got the information you added from that source. And, thank you for wanting to expand the article! ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- My understanding is that the film itself is considered the source for 'Plot summary' (synopsis), therefore sourcing isn't required; however, if you're basing the information from another source, citation is needed. 2606:A000:1126:28D:CD60:8A12:D70:9EBA (talk) 20:12, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- If a Wikipedia editor watched the movie and wrote a synopsis, then no reference other than the movie itself is needed. However, if the Wikipedia editor is using information from a published source instead, then that source should be referenced. -Arch dude (talk) 00:47, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Already made a donation
Wikipedia is invaluable and my contribution of £20 this month Of Sept 2020 is only a small contribution but I do resent being badgered for more as if I had made no contribution at all. Is it possible to discriminate between those who have made no recent donation and those that have? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.78.85.245 (talk) 16:34, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- If you create an account you can avoid being pestered for donations. David Biddulph (talk) 16:45, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- As IPs can be used by multiple people and devices, there is no way to know if the person sitting at the computer at any moment has donated or not. As noted, if you create an account, you can turn the request messages off. 331dot (talk) 16:49, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

- Wikipedia does not deal in truth, but in what can be verified, because what is "true" is in eye of the beholder. Wikipedia does not claim to be free of bias; Wikipedia presents the sources so that readers can judge them for themselves. If an article has incorrect information, please discuss it on the article talk page, along with independent reliable sources to support it. 331dot (talk) 20:17, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
On August 4, the submission of a bio for Walter Paul Blass was rejected for inadequate footnoting. I have revised and added the footnotes but have not be able to enter the new footnote numbers in the text. Should I just re-upload the entire submission?

Can't add anything to Talk:Islamorada, Florida
I've been trying to add something on the "Talk:Islamorada, Florida" page. I've tried adding a discussion and replying to an existing discussion with no success. I get the message "New topic added to talk page," but I see no change on the page whatsoever. Reloading the page or using a new window doesn't help. I'm using Brave Browser 1.14.83 on Android 8.0.0.
Thanks,

- The talk page is not protected, and you are not blocked or partially blocked, so you should be able to edit it. I just made a test comment, and it worked for me, but I'm using a totally different browser and a laptop computer, plus as an admin if it were protected (it's not) I'd be able to edit through the protection, so the fact that I was able to make a test comment doesn't tell you much. You were able to edit here, so whatever is occurring is not occurring everywhere. Maybe ask the people at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 23:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- I tried it too -- worked fine for me. Since you can edit here, its not a problem with your browser, evidently. 2606:A000:1126:28D:CD60:8A12:D70:9EBA (talk) 00:59, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Question on how to submit my page on Wikipedia
Hi there,
I have created a wikipedia page. How do I submit it to Wikipedia? I have saved and published it - but I cannot find this page on Google.
Can you assist urgently? Thanks
Kind regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Senseisanna (talk • contribs) 23:43, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Senseisanna: The only page you have created so far is your user page at User:Senseisanna. A user page is not a Wikipedia article and will not be indexed by Google. The info on your user page is not particularly appropriate for a user page: see WP:USERPAGE. Is is also not appropriate as an article, most crucially because it does not establish notability: see WP:YFA. Using full name at beginning of second section of biographical article
Could anyone please tell me if it's acceptable to use a person's full name at the beginning of the first sentence of the second section of a biographical article, despite it already being used that way at the beginning of the opening section's first sentence? As I somewhat wrote in this other post from twelve days ago, it seems awkward to me, but maybe that's just my own biases biases overruling better judgment.--Thylacine24 (talk) 00:36, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Thylacine24. No, this is not proper practice in general. We give a person's full name the first time they are mentioned, and then use their surname in subsequent mentions. One exception is in sections where different people with the same surname are being discussed, often close relatives. In that situation, it may be necessary to use the full name to prevent confusion. Some languages do not use the first name/surname convention, so those names may be treated differently. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:38, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Cullen328: Thanks for replying. I know what you mean about only using this style if people with the same last name are also being discussed, though in the instance that motivated me to ask this, it used the middle name as well (and no other mentioned family members had the same first name, I think).--Thylacine24 (talk) 01:54, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia font
Hi, I have always had a question about the main page of Wikipedia, https://www.wikipedia.org. Not sure where is the best place to ask this, but here's my question. On the front page, it says "Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia." The word Wikipedia seems to be written in an all caps font with the A at the same height as the W. I've seen those fonts before, and I am wondering, when the following text was written in HTML, was the A capitalized, as in "WikipediA The Free Encyclopedia?" - @Gioguch and Arch dude: It seems to be a wordmark that comes from this svg, which is really just a line drawing (one of several big long SVG path elements in the file) – neither capital nor lower-case. The text that is covered by the image is "Wikipedia". —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 04:32, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Gioguch and AlanM1:There is an interesting section on the Wikipedia wordmark at Linux Libertine. The wordmark is in the Linux libertine typefont. The first and last characters are capitals. The remaining letters are small caps so WIKIPEDIA. That particular "W" consisting of "crossed V's" is not the font's normal capital "W", but was added to the font for use in the Wikipedia wordmark. The SVG file Alan found was probably generated in Inkscape using the Linux libertine font and then converted from text to polygons within Inkscape. -Arch dude (talk) 04:54, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I see. I was trying to stress that it is no longer plain text that could be changed easily, that it's intentional (not an error), and that the reference to it as a wordmark probably indicates that it is registered (i.e. changing it would be a big, expensive deal). I think it's probably reg. 4853585 from 2014/2015. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 05:22, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

USS Scabbardfish
Hi, my father served on the USS scabbardfish and I noticed an inaccuracy with the information on the page and tried to edit it but that portion of the page was un-editable. It has to do with the engines which were the Fairbanks-Morse 38 8-1/8 and not the GM mptors stated in the article. How I know this is that my father, now deceased, was on the original crew. His name was Herbert E. Schauer. He said the GM engines were terrible and the Fairbanks never gave out but the GM were breaking all the time. Please tell me how to edit this section. Best, -R. - After some brief research, I'm certain that the OP's dad was correct, so I changed the article and added a new reference. Basically, the infobox in USS Scabbardfish (SS-397) used a template for the propulsion system. Each Balao-class submarine had one of several similar propulsion systems, and Scabbardfish had the GE template but should have had the FM template. The references were part of the template, giving a false sense that the original editor had checked those references specifically for Scabbardfish. -Arch dude (talk) 18:20, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Why is there no page for Robert Cabal ?
Hi
Robert Cabal was a Mexican-American actor who was in "The man behind the Gun" with Randolph Scott and was on the TV show Rawhide. Why is there no page for this actor ? I dont know enough about him to create a page myself but if someone else, like a relative would like to start it with birthdate, birth place, deceased or alive etc. I would add to what little I know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.1.170.198 (talk) 17:34, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Because no one has written an article (not yust "page") about him ;-) Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

- He appears to be notable, so an article could be written. He was born in Hawaii in 1917, birth name was Harold Christopher Ching. You may add him at Wikipedia:Requested articles, but we are all volunteers and the request may never be honored. Alternatively, you may write it yourself. a Google search returns a LOT of info about him. See WP:YFA. -Arch dude (talk) 18:30, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Thoughts on Kerala Police Academy - TNT?
Hi. Kerala Police Academy is sourced only to the organisation's own website, is promotional, has clear WP:UPE / COI activity, and I am not sure there's a clean version to roll back to. Suggestions on a way forward other than AfD? Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 20:16, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Oh, and on a related subject Kerala Police is being heavily edited at the moment by an editor who added a lot of unsourced content, which I reverted. He has reverted my revert, and is now adding references but they are seemingly random mentions of Kerala Police and being inserted just after instances of the name Kerala Police rather than at the end of statements that need references. It would be good to have someone else try to explain to them where they're going wrong. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 20:26, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

- Hello HarleyMetalMatt. User-generated websites such as Metal Archives aren't reliable sources. It's best not to worry about getting your band here on Wikipedia, when you do become notable someone who isn't connected to the band will eventually write about you. – Thjarkur (talk) 22:18, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- How do you add your band on here? You don't. Wikipedia is not for promoting your band. As User:Thjarkur said, someone else will eventually do it if your band is notable enough. JIP | Talk 14:01, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

- @HarleyMetalMatt: our definition of notability for a band is fairly specific. If the band meets it, you should have an article. If not, then any attempt to add an article will end in frustration. - David Biddulph, Serols is the one that is edit warring with all of us. That user is a bully and when legitimate offers to discuss the matter are made to them, they just ignore them. In my section below I show that I four times made an offer on their Talk page to discuss why they keep reverting my edits and my offers were deleted every time. Cazcuenaga shouldn't get blocked from editing, but a moderator should block Serols. That person reverts edits without justification, and sends threatening messages too which isn't the spirit of Wikipedia. 2A00:23C8:4384:F00:1C75:5933:D6DE:3536 (talk) 16:57, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- The same user that did that to you, "Serols", is doing the same to me. It's really bad. It's simply bullying. They're just undoing legitimate edits, without explanation, and sending threats, and not talking to explain their actions and come to an agreement. I don't know how to report them to a moderator but someone need to! 2A00:23C8:4384:F00:1C75:5933:D6DE:3536 (talk) 16:13, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Cazcuenaga, the people who work in anti-vandalism sometimes have to rely on heuristics which occasionally may not lead to correct conclusions, I can for example see how from Serols's point of view this may have looked like someone removing controversial information from the article. However, you provided an apt edit summary and Serols did not. What you should usually do when someone reverts you is to follow bold-revert-discuss and invite the other party to discuss the matter on the talk page. From reading the sources, I mostly agree with your edit, having an entire section dedicated to this tangential event wasn't WP:DUE. I have slightly reworded the section, could be summarized even further. – Thjarkur (talk) 16:39, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Report a user to moderators
I started trying to tidy up an article, it was repetitive and some headings don't even relate to the following paragraph. User "Serols" keeps undoing my edits, without explaining why, and sending me threats on my Talk page. I've tried to ask them multiple times on their Talk page why they keep undoing my tidying up but they just delete my comment. It's simple bullying. I can't get past the first edit of tidying up before they delete my comment.
Here's an example of me trying to talk to this person but they're just being rude and a bully. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ASerols&type=revision&diff=980277906&oldid=980277337
Can you report them to a moderator, please? I don't know how to do that but their behaviour is really unfair 2A00:23C8:4384:F00:1C75:5933:D6DE:3536 (talk) 16:11, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Also, you'll see that the person who started a section above me has a problem is "Serols" undoing legitimate edits. And if you look on Serols Talk page, many other people have had issues with them undoing legitimate edits. For example, someone states that they deleted a page that doesn't make sense and the only source is Facebook, but Serols just undid that deletion. By the frequency of edits, it is clear that Serols isn't actually looking at what they're doing, but just arbitrarily undoing edits from legitimate users and then sending them threats if we dare question them. I don't know if this is an out of control bot or a arrogant user but PLEASE send a moderator or someone in charge to address this. 2A00:23C8:4384:F00:1C75:5933:D6DE:3536 (talk) 16:23, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

It is clearly a page made by the subject of the article, referencing the user's facebook page. And "Serols" reverted the legitimate edit. He/she is simply a bully who doesn't look at what they're doing and just reverts edits at random, and sends threatening messages to users if they undo the reversion. PLEASE can a moderator do something about that user and tell them off, as the person in the section above also has the same issue with this user and multiple people on Serol's talk page have complained that their legitimate edits are reverted. Wikipedia is supposed to be a place where we can all do our own little bit, not a place where every change is undone by an arrogant bully! 2A00:23C8:4384:F00:1C75:5933:D6DE:3536 (talk) 16:52, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- I would also recommend following bold-revert-discuss and starting a discussion on the article's talk page. If no one has replied in a few days, just reinstate your edit. I do agree with you that Serols not using edit summaries and only using templated warnings is only going to lead to annoyed new editors, but I would really recommend trying still to start a talk page discussion. In the Ostraoyster case, Ostraoyster's removal was not distinguishable from page-blanking vandalism. – Thjarkur (talk) 17:12, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Kroger4
Forgive my laziness; I no longer actively edit but there's a minor concern that I'd like to voice, since I don't intend to do anything about it personally.
It's come to my attention that User:Kroger4 likes to edit but doesn't follow the guidelines. He/she appears to watch YouTube videos and then come to Wikipedia to add links to those videos. Some are helpful additions, some are less than encyclopedic quality External links, and some are definitely against policy — using YouTube videos as references, often for dubious information.
There are a number of notifications on his/her user page which appear to have been ignored. I think Kroger4 would like to make useful additions and be a better editor but simply doesn't fully understand how. I don't think sanctions would be helpful. Perhaps some mentoring is in order if anyone has the time? Just my two penneth. Cheers.
Please note that I probably won't see any replies to this message as I'm busy with other things. I just thought it would be worth mentioning. Regards, nagualdesign 18:41, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Beatrice Chanler (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch
Hello, My grandmother, Beatrice Ashley Chanler, was born Minnie W Collins in Dartmouth MA according to birth records registered in the town of Dartmouth, MA. Her mother was Eliza Tully Collins. A few minutes after revising my grandmother's name and birth data, I retured to the site to see the old erroneous info is there. Will it take time for the corrections to be on the site?
William A Chanler 3rd — Preceding unsigned comment added by WilliamAChanler3rd (talk • contribs) 18:42, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello William A Chanler 3rd. I looked at the changes you made. They were reverted by another editor because they were not sourced. Wikipedia doesn't use "First hand information". Unless you can find a source (A book, website, video, ect...) that shows that correct information, other editors will revert the changes. Hopefully this helps. Elijahandskip (talk) 18:50, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- @WilliamAChanler3rd:, the site policies require the use of secondary, reliable sources, neither family recollections or primary documents such as birth certificates are used to support biographical claims. After reviewing the article Beatrice Chanler I notice that the current information is not well-sourced, either. The best place to work out content disputes such as this is the article's talk page. I would suggest that you and Cmacauley attempt discussing this discrepancy there first. (Note:I revised your header because very long headers such as this can cause problems with displays on some devices.) I hope that helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:00, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Making a template that fills a list with all pages in a category?
So, I'm trying to make a template that fills a list in a template with all the pages in a specific category. Is this possible? And if so, how do I go about doing that? DraegerChem (talk) 18:48, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello DraegerChem, this isn't currently possible, we have to manually sync categories and lists. Or are you talking about how to most effectively create a list manually from a category? What is the template you're interested in filling? – Thjarkur (talk) 18:56, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Courtesy vanishing rename request.
I’m in the process of attempting to retire/abandon my account. There’s an article on wikihow about how to do various things step by step in the process and one of them is for filing a rename request. It says; “To do so, go to this page and enter your new username. Make sure it is in the format Vanished user ####### (where # are random numbers)”.
So my question here is does that mean the request I should send should be for a rename along the lines on vanisheduser and then a series of numbers or am I misinterpreting what’s written there? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lexxxicide (talk • contribs) 18:52, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Lexxxicide:, I don't know what Wikihow article you are referring to but that isn't related to this project. The actual guideline you need is this one here. The steps there say something similar to what the other article but not exactly the same:
The best way is to visit Special:GlobalRenameRequest to access the rename request interface. Requests made this way will be processed by global renamers or stewards. Please specify "request to vanish" in the reason field; your requested username should be of the form "Renamed user nnnnnnnnnn" replacing n with random characters.
So, yes, you need to include some text in the "nnnnnnnnnn" section. You can use this tool at Random.org to get a string to enter and check Special:ListUsers to make sure your string doesn't overlap with anyone else's. I hope that helps and I'm sorry you're leaving. Many edits just adding a space?
I came across the edits of this user, that almost all seem to be just adding one single space. I don't understand why they are doing that. Is there something that can be done to slow them down, and to stop cluttering the histories up with tiny edit? Maybe they are just doing it to get their edit count up? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/RetroBreads Thanks peterl (talk) 00:31, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

Invisble reference error
Hi, I'm currently working on a draft article in my sandbox and have noticed that it's included in the hidden category 'User pages with reference errors'. I'm a bit stumped as to what's causing the problem as there isn't a visible cite error message and refTools error check isn't picking it up. I'm using the shortened footnote templates. I'd appreciate it if someone could take a second look (in case I'm missing something obvious) or point me in the direction of an editor who's experienced with this. Cheers, Jr8825 • Talk 03:21, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Jr8825: See Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key. In your case, the duplicate key is "FOOTNOTEBrownePearson200616–17". Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:25, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick spot @Jackmcbarn:. So I know for the future, how did you find the error? Jr8825 • Talk 03:29, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Jr8825: I'm not sure why you don't see it. For me, it's big and red right under the "Citations" heading. Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:31, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

The cause of death of indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput is still not confirmed by any government agencies as it's under investigation. Please change the cause of death from suicide by hanging to "under investigation". CBI is still investigating this case. No sources other than CBI is eligible to confirm the actual cause of death. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anjalisat (talk • contribs) 10:12, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

Need help with copying code
Hey guys. Is there any way that images which gets updated on main page of Wiki commons gets updated simultaneously on my user page too. LearnIndology (talk) 11:32, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- LearnIndology, As far as I know, although it's quite easy to do on Commons - just add
{{:Main Page/potd}}
and{{:Main Page/motd}}
to your user page, I don't think it's possible to do it here. ~~ Alex Noble/1-2/TRB 12:58, 26 September 2020 (UTC) - @LearnIndology: Have a look at Wikipedia:Wikimedia Commons/POTD. This relies on a bot that updates a page here once a day with the image name and caption from commons. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:20, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks guys, but I need to increase the size of the image. I want to make sure it fills the whole empty space on my userpage, how can I do that? LearnIndology (talk) 13:51, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- PS It would be fine if anyone will do it by himself on my userpage. LearnIndology (talk) 13:55, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- @LearnIndology: I've switched the coding to use a larger size. I don't know if there's a way to get the image to scale itself to fill whatever space is available to the left of the infobox. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:38, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
The crest of arms in the above Wiki article about the UYS family is absurd and should be removed: it depicts a farmer with a little basket over his arm and 3 unions beside him -- as if UYS was derived from UNION... In the 1930's some enterprising artist invented family crests for dozens of families and sold them to gullible country folk in South Africa. No UYS family crest has been registered by the SA Bureau of Heraldry. Moreover, the UYS surname was originally NIJS from Amsterdam and Leiden. And they were humble sailors: not aristocracy with family crests. See articles by Dr JF UYS 'DIE EERSTE UYS' ('The First UYS') in FAMILIA (Journal of the Genealogical Society of South Africa) 2011 and 2013. 165.255.39.180 (talk) 11:34, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- The claimed origin of the arms depicted is fairly well described in the article's text, though you are welcome to add to it article any of the details above that you can cite to independent, published reliable sources. (Whether the source you mention qualifies may depend on the rigor of the Journal's editorial practices, since the author mentioned likely has a conflict of interest in the matter.)
- Canting (punning) arms have been used for many centuries, and are not usually taken to suggest a real etymological derivation of the family name, although some people may have believed in such an origin: rather, such arms are often a deliberate joke based on the name.
- In modern heraldic practice, most Heraldic authorities will design and/or grant arms to anyone within their jurisdiction who is of good standing, upon payment of the requisite fees; "aristocratic" origins or status are not a consideration and most arms bearers are not aristocrats. This certainly holds true in South African heraldry, where registration of arms with the Bureau is in any case voluntary, though it has the advantage of enabling one to sue if someone else "usurps" one's registered arms. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.219.33.80 (talk) 15:06, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

Cathedral Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida
It is necessary an edition in the title of the page Basilica_of_the_National_Shrine_of_Our_Lady_of_Aparecida, in 2016 the church was recognized as a Cathedral, therefore nowadays the most recognized name is Cathedral Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida (see the Portuguese version of the page). Brownsville Texas Incident of 1906
The Brownsville Texas Incident of 1906: It was LTC (Ret) William Baker's tireless research and persuasive legal brief, while stationed at the Pentagon in 1972, that convinced the Secretary of the Army to reverse President Theodore Roosevelt’s decision to discharge without honor the 167 black soldiers of the First Battalion Twenty-fifth Infantry accused of shooting up the town of Brownsville Texas in 1906.
