- The edit-filter won't let new or ip users use words like "fucking asshole" to curb vandalism. Wikipedia doesn't censor quotes like that, but because the cited source itself censors the quote, the article is correct as it stands. —Bruce1eetalk 04:51, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

- Description
- I have replaced the current description of this article with an older one. A massive amount of lists in this article were removed by Ncboy2010, and placed into different links. I have attempted to restore the info, while keeping the links. But it is incredibly ridiculous that I have pasted an email-address along with this editing.

- The filter merely warned you, didn't stop you, from adding an email address to an article. If you had clicked "save page" again, the edit would have gone through. Now of course you're saying, "but I didn't add an email address to the article". Well, some of those URLs you returned contained the "@" symbol, which makes them look just like email addresses. There is unfortunately nothing we can do to prevent this sort of false positive, but that's also why this filter doesn't actually stop your edit. Someguy1221 (talk) 04:50, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

- → That '!' was a sign of enthusiasm. I would understand this bulldog-style filtering in case of a Viagra advertisement, but in case of a serious attempt to foster the community of KiCad users... and if you're honest, every external links is some kind of promotion. Think of something else and release usable guidelines. The same goes for some moderator replies. Don't just say 'No', but elaborate what changes are needed to be 'worthy'.

- Monster Rancher (filter log)
- Description
- I attempted to edit the story for this video game series to match exactly the story OF the video game series. I was changing the current first paragraph under the Story heading to the correct storyline which is as follows: "Before the world's continents broke up into pieces, a huge disaster hit the world. People prayed to God for help, and God created new life forms. However, new life forms brought new troubles, so God became exasperated and sealed them in "disc stones". Many years have passed since then and God entrusted the humans with the secret of "disc stones". Today people still continue searching for these missing "disc stones" to unlock the lifeforms within." This is the exact text from the opening FMV of Monster Rancher 2 for the PlayStation. The information can be checked and verified by playing the game or viewing the FMV online.

Welcome to Wikipedia! Your edit has triggered an automated warning because it looks like you're trying to add an email address to this page. Doing that, especially with a personal email address, is usually a bad idea as it can attract large amounts of spam. Though there are a few legitimate reasons to include an email address, in most cases Wikipedia will remove email addresses that are added to articles or discussion pages.

- Talk:Ghent Altarpiece (filter log)
- Description
- Add a new section:
New subject: The musicians look like humans in a church ceremony
Here I present two sources from the music and art historical literature that emphasize the naturalistic human-like depiction of the musician and the naturalistic depiction of the local setting as that of a church ceremony. 1) Reinhold Hammerstein, Die Musik der Engel, Berne 1962, pp 249-51. 2) Studies in the Performance of Late Medieval Music, edited by Stanley Boorman, Cambridge University Press 1983, p 30. The view that the musicians are meant to represent angels is widespread in the art historical literature of the past 100 years. However, arguments for this view are missing. In fact, we are confronted with a typical Flat Earth syndrome. All believe it, because all believe it. It is clear that according to the rules of Wikipedia such a belief needs to be reported. But it needs to be called a belief, not a fact. Would it be ok, if added the two references above and pointed out that Jan van Eyck was a Renaissance artist and as such strongly oriented at depicting humans and things as naturalistic as possible?

- Huntsman spider (filter log)
- Description
- Moved section (which required "blanking section"), as summarized in my edit description: "Moved section to Cultural depictions of spiders#Modern myths and urban legends" — and per prior discussion on the article talk page: Talk:Huntsman_spider#Folklore and urban legend. This was done after creating new section specifically for this move. The section cut from the Huntsman article was pasted to the new section of the other article, and that new section was soon expanded with relevant, cited information. It was deemed that the information cut from the Huntsman article was too trivial on its own, but when combined with similar information regarding spiders in general, it could become a welcome addition to Wikipedia. It was my understanding that an edit summary description would be understood, or at least my intent could be followed to see that the blanked section was immediately moved, and not simply deleted. ~ Please inform me if there is something that I have failed to understand.

- The filter can only look at the immediate edit, and cannot divine your intention in blanking a section. However, blanking a section is not always a bad thing (obviously as in this case, where it is immediately restored somewhere else). And that's why the filter didn't stop you; it merely noted the blanking. Someguy1221 (talk) 07:37, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

- Unfortunately no. But that's the reason why the filter used to be called the "Abuse Filter" and we changed it to "Edit Filter" to attempt to avoid the association with "abuse." -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 09:39, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

- The filter does not prevent you from making an edit - it merely warns you. If you were to click "save page" a second time without changing anything, the edit would go through just fine. Someguy1221 (talk) 21:42, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- I promise you, I tried saving it multiple times. Please check the filter log, I just tried saving it 5 more times in a row, with no changes between save attempts. Maybe there is a software bug. If it matters, the text contains an external link, so I had to fill in a captcha for every save. But writing the url as plain text instead of a link didn't help, and I tried saving it several times that way too. 66.127.54.40 (talk) 22:32, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

That said, I've been told that it's a bug in the filter, and that it will be fixed soon, but if you use Twinkle it shouldn't trigger the filter. ☮Soap☮ 23:22, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

The character Poison by the Capcom company is widly known as transgendered, even by the official game manual naming her as such. If this is a further issue please feel free to request documentation scans or contact the trademark holder. Unfortunately, during the time of release in the 1990s, the character was named a newhalf because of female violence on the news. To Japan, it was better to beat up a transgendered female than a genetic on at the time, :(

- What?? Since when are official court documents not considered reliable sources?70.241.73.164 (talk) 02:03, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
- In this case it's not just a matter of reliability but also a matter of significance. If no media outlet or other publisher of secondary content has bothered to mention that Bell is representing him, then Wikipedia shouldn't either. But on the matter of reliability, I have personally found inaccuracies in court records. People make typos, and specifically in the case of noting a defendant's attorney, I have seen court documents that continued to maintain one on the docket who had long since been fired by his client. Long story short, we don't use primary sources to report something completely novel. Someguy1221 (talk) 09:12, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

- Description
- I am trying to add the following text to the section sitting in at Minton's above the sentence that starts "Practices such as these". I feel that the educational value is outweighed by the profanity. I would be happy to paraphrase it if deemed necessary.
Trumpet player Miles Davis said in his autobiography: "If you got up on the bandstand at Minton's and couldn't play, you were not only going to get embarrassed by people ignoring you or booing you, you might get your ass kicked. One night this guy who couldn't play worth shit got up to try and do his thing-bullshit- and style himself off to get some bitches, playing anything. A regular street guy who just loved to listen to all the music was in the audience when this dumb motherfucker got up on the stage to play, so the man just got up quietly from his table and snatched this no-playing cat off the stage, dragged him outside and into the alcove between the Cecil Hotel and Minton's, and just kicked this motherfucker's ass. I mean real good. Then he told the dude not to never take his ass up on the bandstand at Minton's again until he could play some-thing worth listening to. That was Minton's. You had to put up or shut up, there was no in between."Davis, Miles; Trope, Quincy (189). Book of Miles Davis Autobiography.

- WHAT KIND OF FORTUNE THE PEOPLE OF JHARKHAND HAVE?
WHEN IN 2000 IT WAS CREATED OUT OF BIHAR MANY WOULD BE THINKING THAT THEY ARE GETTING A NEW AND SMALL STATE FULL OF NATURAL RESOURCES WHICH WILL PUT THEM ON THE PATH OF ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT BUT THE SITUATION HAS NOT CHANGED, IT HAS NOW BECOME EVEN WORSE. THE POLITICAL SYSTEM IN JHARKHAND IS FULL OF HORSE TRADING AND UNTIL AND UNLESS THE NATIONAL PARTIES WILL NOT FORM GOVERNMENT ON THEIR OWN THE FORTUNE OF JHARKHAND AND ITS PEOPLE IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE.
CONGRESS PARTY SHOULD TAKE A RESPONSIBLE STEP AND IT SHOULD NOT ENTER INTO ANY KIND OF AGREEMENT WITH SMALLER PARTIES. LET THE PARTIES SEEK FRESH MANDATE AND PEOPLE SHOULD DECIDE TO SUPPORT ANY OF THE NATIONAL PARTIES SO THAT THE ROLE THAT THE SMALL PARTIES PLAYED CAN BE RESTRICTED. IT IS NOW UP TO THE PEOPLE OF JHARKHAND TO DECIDE THERE FATE.

- I wish to edit one of the paragraphs titles: "The analogy between Islamism and Fascism", which does not fit at all(!) with the contents of the paragraph, or the article where the quote by Christopher Hitchens is taken from (where he talks about "Bin Ladenism or Salafism").
A fitting title would be: "A comparison of historical fascism and islamofascism". The distinction made here is obvious.

- I was removing bad SEO posed as positive results and credible sources when the sources are just being posted to maintain a higher rank at hopes of defamation of Craig Brittain and Chance Trahan. If you google Chance Trahan, the first result to come up is adamsteignbaugh.com when they are claiming to be a critic, or legal threat or credible and reliable source? I don't know what they are trying to do here... I was hoping you would help me figure it out! I am just trying to clear their name of bad Search Engine results that has nothing to do with them or their business and is a part of their personal life and was never meant to be made as public info. They use copyrighted images of Chance Trahan that were not meant for unauthorized reproduction and said images were obtained illegally.

- When you say "clear their name", you presumably mean "clear your name"? I note with interest that you are using an IP address in Phoenix, the same place where Mr Trehan apparently lives. The problem is that you have created quite a controversy with your web site, leading to a a lot of adverse comment. In my opinion the sites belonging to Mr Steinbaugh and Mr Randazza are quite notable and well-known in the legal blogging community, and that is why they are prominent in the search results. Also, I haven't seen any images uploaded to Wikipedia relating to this article, images hosted on other people's sites are not relevant here. Shritwod (talk) 09:08, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

- I have seen the arguements which develop in the "appropriate" TALK area. There seems to be a poorly-contained air of hostility which exists between the chain-strummers and the "woulda-been coulda-been" contributors. The thought of getting involved in that sort of communication leaves me wondering why you guys would see the "TALK" area as being better than simply contesting it all---out in the open. I honestly do not get why someone would want to contribute----if all that he or she is doing----is reading a Wiki article, following it with reference-work and then following THAT by typing out exactly what he/she obtained from the reference work! I could understand the possibility of obtaining pleasure from such a routine if I were employed by Britannica and being PAID to endlessly repeat such a mundane routine. But as a mentally-stimulating leisure activity, WHAT in the name of God do you people get out of this if you do nothing which leaves a trace of yourself behind?

- Description
- Table claims, regarding euphemisms for "son of a bitch", the following: "The phrase comes from navy ships, where if a child was born to an unknown father it would be recorded as the "son of a gunner"." Presumably they're talking about "son of a gun", not the also-listed (and questionable) "son of a preacher man," but the bigger problem is that that's only one of several popular claims, and probably incorrect. We have an article discussing it better. Attempted to change the text to: "Many different etymologies have been proposed for "son of a gun," which may have an independent origin from "son of a bitch."" Edit blocked, very likely because new text included the word "bitch." Trying to edit an article about profanity while working through a profanity filter may be a losing game.

- The "DISPLAYTITLE" tag is not used in this way - it's used when the article title is different from the true one, because the latter can't be used for technical reasons (e.g. eBay, which - since all articles have the first letter capitalized - is located at EBay). Please use requested moves, if you can't move the article yourself. - Trying to create a page on a section of railway history. Page content - it'll need links to the relevent demu /emu pages. The source is my own work.
Proposed content:
Orange Vees
During 1960 the Hampshire diesel units started to have a large luminous orange ‘Vee’ painted on the cab ends, unit 1102 being the first done. These only ever adorned the 2/3-car Hampshire /Hastings diesel units and it is believed a few orange ‘Vees’ survived into the last quarter of 1965.
The orange 'Vee' denoted that there was 'No brake (guards) van at the other end of the unit'.
Inverted Black Triangles
With the introduction of small warning panels (trialled on BR(S) in 1962) a decision was made to replace the orange-Vee with a black inverted triangle and that this useful indicator to staff should become standard for all 2 and 3-car demu /emu stock on the BR(S).
- Date and time
- 17:05, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
- Comments
- You'd be better off adding the information to the relevant DEMU/EMU pages; it isn't a notable topic on its own (regardless of the trip of the edit filter on the page title, which is a false positive). Black Kite (talk) 20:23, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
- This is an issue that affects many classes and is time and time again incorrectly misidentified in numerous publications in the UK's railway world (including some specialist books this year)! Hence trying to raise the profile through this website. Yes it is specialist but if Wikipedia isn't interested in specialist topics then it is not worth too much time here. However, I thank you for your interest.

- John I, duke of Brittany
- Date and time
- 14:36, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

He is described in the version of the article I was trying to edit as "nominal" duke. And the explanation continues "because his father ruled as regent."
The correct description is that he was hereditary Duke, that is he inherited it directly from his mother, the Duchess suo jure. At the date of his inheritance he was a minor. Therefore under the rules of nobility of the time he would have required a Regent. His father was Regent. A Regent rules, that is their job. That a Regent rules does not make the hereditary Duke only Nominal. He is still the hereditary Duke though a minor.
If a title linked to a reigning noble is "nominal" in the modern sense of the word, meaning it is empty and without authority, then what you want in the lingo of nobility is "titular" - the title is titular or honorary and carries no rights or prerogatives with it. And this is certainly the case with the history of the Dukes of Brittany as with other sovereign houses of Europe in the Middle Ages.
Therefore it is appropriate to change nominal to hereditary. And then I tried to clean up the syntax of the passage regarding the Regent, and name him for clarity as the sentence as written is poorly written.
Please permit the correction to go through as the article, as written, is incorrect.
- False positive: Addition of word "hereditary" after word "was" tripped the filter as an addition of the string
\bwas here
