English dialect changes

Hi Jakob, you accepted this edit to Miriam Makeba, but it was a change of English dialect contrary to the relevant guideline so I've undone that edit. Graham87 01:13, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, it's written in South African English. Thanks for pointing out the remaining uses of "ize" in the article; I've fixed them. Graham87 02:27, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, see the bottom of this section. Graham87 02:51, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The railroad article you enquired about at the Teahouse

Hi King! Firstly, I would suggest you contact Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains for style questions like you've asked. I suspect, tho, that you are going to find that railroad lines themselves are pretty non-notable. The name you quoted in your question is the name of a railroad company, not the line that it originally built. An example of what I mean. There exists a set of railroad tracks running from Porter, Indiana to Kalamazoo, Michigan. It currently belongs to Amtrak. Prior to that, it was part of the Penn Central, which it got from The New York Central when they merged with The Pennsylvania Railroad. Prior to that, it was part of The Michigan Central. There were other companies before that. In short, it seems that railroad companies are notable, while railroad lines are apparently not. Again, check with the Wikiproject to be sure. You could certainly write about the company and mention the dispersion or abandonment of its various parts, but before you get too far in, you should probably get some expert advice. If you opt to go with the company, I would suggest that you include information on abandoned portions that have been re-purposed, such as turned into roads or bike trails. Happy editing. Inappropriate non-admin close

If it isn't an obvious closure, such as everyone agreeing that it should be kept, please let administrators close discussions such as this one. Contentious non-admin closures like that cause more issues than anything and are very likely to be reverted, so if it's not a super obvious consensus that nobody would disagree with it's best to let admins close it. - SudoGhost 04:42, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removing AfD template

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Megamol. A cheeseburger for you!

I can't thank you enough!! My first article Expeditionary Economics just got reviewed by you and put into article space! Thanks once again... How was the article??? The Wikimon (talk) 23:59, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. An ANI discussion regarding you

There is a discussion at WP:ANI regarding your closing the deletion discussion for Screaming Banshee Aircrew at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Screaming Banshee Aircrew. It has already been reverted, but you shouldn't have closed that discussion. For starters, NAC (non-admin closures) should only be done in the least controversial cases, and this one had already been tagged with {{notavote}}, demonstrating there was a potential problem with canvassing or meatpuppetry. Second, you've been here only a short while, and NACs of AFDs are controvsial enough when it is a highly experienced editor (the policy actually discourages it, but doesn't ban it). While it might seem obvious that it was going to be kept, experience will show that often an AFD will have a dozen keeps and no deletes, then after a CheckUser gets involved, we find those were all the same person, for instance. This stuff really happens. Even in cases where the votes are all legitimate, it doesn't hurt to wait, and of course, when there are issues such as vote stacking or any controversy, no non-admin should close. Admin aren't smarter than non-admin, but we are expected to take the heat and are accountable for dealing with problems like this. I appreciate the desire to help, but closing AFDs should wait until you've been here a while longer. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 23:29, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see by your ANI comment that you aren't as new as we thought. I would still leave the problem AFDs with tags and such to admin. There is often a lot of heat thrown around them, making it better for someone with the bit to close, even if they seem obvious. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 12:13, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I had a glance at what you added, but I'm not sure that's really going to help as lots of high school football teams have players in the NFL. Your best bet might be to search for somewhere where the team made major news (i.e., statewide/regional/national). King Jakob C2 12:08, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up from teahouse

April 24, Hi KJ, I want to thank you again for your help. At this time, with a couple of promising prospects coming at me, I'm going to pass on doing this about myself. Somebody someday will take on the task. Or not.

Meanwhile, please let me know if I have to/should delete what I posted. Thank you. Keep up the good work. Uke Jackson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ukeplucker (talkcontribs) 19:53, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You certainly don't have to have the draft deleted, but if you want to, you can add {{Db-g7}} or {{Db-u1}} to the top and it'll be quickly deleted by an admin. King Jakob C2 20:33, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please excuse my ignorance. I'm having a heck of a time navigating and figuring out all the initials/abbreviations. Also, those "captcha" things are very difficult. Maybe I should add to the personal info that I under went 7 operations on my eyes from 1998 - 2003. I see pretty well but the captcha takes me several tries every time. Anyway, here's the link (again) to my draft:

Hi again, Well, I edited the piece. I cut and cut again. I cut the Huffington Post piece as a reference (and the period of my life to which it referred), because I wrote it. Honestly, this is a difficult site for me. The only way I can find the piece again is by going to your talk page. Any more pointers or like that? Should I submit? Thanks. References on Unbiunium

Hello King jakob!
The reference from Google-Books you put on the article Unbiunium seems to be a seminar paper, or something likewise. I don't think this is suitable for a citation. If this should be a journal or book please put the name of the publisher or a proper link on it. Otherwise I think it's better to leave it out.

Mariano Rajoy and Hitler comparisons

This edit that you accepted, comparing the Spanish Prime Minister to Hitler, based on one users personal POV and sources which don't mention him, is clearly unacceptable on BLP grounds and is exactly why we have pending changes on that article. Most of the text is not supported by the sources and comparing is as far as it gets from NPOV. Please keep an eye out for things like that. Take a moment out of your day in the basement and read GurdASS's rants, broken English and claims about Sirio Carappa. Do you really like aiding a moron, with moronic claims of succession? Do you know that for the last 500 years, only initiates of a master have been successors, not initiates of other masters? Do you know anything at all?
