I need to insert a correction along with the proof to Wikipedia

I have tried to insert a piece of news that corrects something that is wrong and has been with Wikipedia for years. How do I add my version of the facts and then give the subsequent proof that can be cataloged below under the article? I was not successful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnBook (talkcontribs) 05:46, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it appears that some of what you contributed here remained in the edits that followed yours. What got lost was your comment that the "Indian newspaper The Indian Express even confirmed in their issue of 19 February 2008 that Indian Air Force's claim was bogus." As explained in @TheRedPenOfDoom:'s edit summary, the content was removed for "POV commentary", that is, you seem to be forcing a point-of-view that is not expressly stated in the article. The article says that the world record claim was invalidated for "lack of documents or evidence", and that is what you should have written, instead of "bogus", which implies a deceptive scheme. Can't Edit (text disappears)

I wanted to tweak the opening/closing ceremony dates for the 2014 Winter Olympics but when I attempted to make the edit the text is not there. What's this all about, why is the text disappearing when you try to edit? 24.193.43.35 (talk) 13:25, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributions show no edits to that page. When you clicked Save page, were you led back to the main article, instead of the edit window, and was there a box at the top that said, "Your edit was saved"? ~HueSatLum 13:31, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't even make the edit because the text disappears once I click edit. 24.193.43.35 (talk) 13:35, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The dates come from the relevant templates. It is not clear what "tweaks" you were trying to apply but if you explain what and why, someone may be able to help you. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:38, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    I'm confused. What exactly are "relevant templates"? 24.193.43.35 (talk) 14:29, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
templates are coding that allows content to be displayed in a different format than plain text, such as a conversion from feet to meters, or a few key codewords to bring back as a display a complex set of information that can be used in many pages and have to be updated only in one spot. In wiki markup templates are coded within double braces
    • { { key words to call the template |parameters that may be specific for this article} } .
only without the space between the braces. see WP:TEMPLATE -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:20, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The text "Opening ceremony 7 February" and "Closing ceremony 23 February" in the box on the upper right of the article is transcluded into the 2014 Winter Olympics article (e.g., the text "Opening ceremony 7 February" and "Closing ceremony 23 February" cannot be edited directly from the 2014 Winter Olympics article. The text does not disappear on selecting the edit tab, it never was directly part of the article text in the first place.) Looking at 2012 Summer Olympics, the Opening ceremony and Closing ceremony year 2012 is omitted from the infobox as well. Likely, there was some agreement somewhere to omit the date. I think that the year 2014 should be added to the text "7 February" and "23 February" 2014 Winter Olympics. Since current consensus is to leave out the year, you may need to obtain agreement at Talk:2014 Winter Olympics to make such a change. -- Jreferee (talk) 15:18, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying the edit box is completely blank or just that you don't see the dates you want to edit? If the edit box is blank then say which edit link you click, which browser you have, and whether you are logged out when you try to edit, like when you posted here. If you are only missing the dates in the infobox then they are added by Template:Infobox Olympic games/opening ceremony and Template:Infobox Olympic games/closing ceremony. Many page elements are added by templates. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:03, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Primehunter I don't see the dates but everything else is there. So how do I go about tweaking the text if it's not there? I'm confused by this whole template thing, I apologize. 24.193.43.35 (talk) 17:20, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The dates are in the pages I linked: Template:Infobox Olympic games/opening ceremony and Template:Infobox Olympic games/closing ceremony. You can edit those and change the entry for 2014, but what exactly do you want it to say? PrimeHunter (talk) 17:41, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't work. I just edited the template but the date is in the same format. 24.193.43.35 (talk) 18:05, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The reason was probably that it takes some time for template transclusions to fight their way through the cache. You would therefore have had to clear the cache. But I have reverted your edit. As I explained to you earlier, the intention of such use of templates is to achieve consistent formatting. If you have a good reason for displaying the 2014 date in a format inconsistent with that currently used for other years, please discuss it on the template's talkpage, or at the associated Wikiproject, rather than unilaterally implementing the change. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:13, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. While you are in an area with Internet connectivity such as now, you can go to any article you want, look to the menu on the left hand side of the page titled "Print/export" and click on "Download as PDF". Once you've downloaded an article to your computer you can call that up any time you want, print it, email it, etc. without any need for an internet connection. Reusing nested |encyclopedia referencves

It would be convenient If one could nest | encyclopedia references in such a way that the nested reference could be reused without retyping the entire thing. Or, perhaps more lucidly, would like to have references in the format "John"'s publication as cited in Jack's publication", with "Jack's publication" being reusable in the same manner as in print one would use "op. cit." To extend the example, a subsequent reference might be "Joe's publication as cited in Jack's publication".

I cannot locate examples or instructions for this.

    Dwsafford (talk) 23:22, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dwsafford, you can! When you first use a reference you can name it, allowing you to just cite that named reference later on. If you do this the Wiki software will automatically use the data from the first time you named it. To name a reference, change your reference from <ref>Some reference</ref> to <ref name="name">Some reference</ref> where name can be whatever you want it to be, but make it different for each unique reference. To use the same reference later on, just write <ref name="name"/> :) Samwalton9 (talk) 23:33, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    DANFS Look-alike

There is a useful template (I think that's what it's called) named {{DANFS}} used in articles that take material from a public domain U.S. government site called the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. There's a parallel publication called Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons, and I'd like to create a template (or whatever) to use in articles that rely on it. I think if I could see what's in the {{DANFS}} thing I could create the new one (but maybe not). Where do I find information about these things, how do I get started on creating one, etc.? Lou Sander (talk) 01:19, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be asking about Template:DANFS. Take a look at that page and you will see the first line of the template basically does what displays on each page. You would create another one just like any other article except that you'll precede the title with "Template:". Dismas|(talk) 03:19, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To "see what's in the {{DANFS}} thing", click "View source" at the top of the page that Dismas linked. You can copy/paste the source code to a sandbox and play around with it. For general information about the creation of templates, see Help:Template. Deor (talk) 12:12, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is exactly it. I need to create, or have someone help me to create, a template exactly like Template:DANFS, with two exceptions: 1) replace the words "fighting ships" with the words "aircraft squadrons", and 2) eliminate the ability to make joint reference to the Naval Vessel Register (which seems to be done with a different template). The template would be Template:DANAS, and potentially it would be used as frequently as Template:DANFS. It looks like this wouldn't be difficult, but also that it needs to be done with great care, maybe by someone with special qualifications. (Now that I've looked further, I see there's an "edit request" function. I guess I'll just use it. Lou Sander (talk) 13:20, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Both the template {{DANAS}} and the empty category for where articles will go that use it have now been created. You may want to also work on bringing the article on the Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons up to the standard of the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. I changed Fighting Ships to Aviation Squadrons in each and deleted the note in indicating co-use with the NVR. Let me know what else to need.Naraht (talk) 16:40, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is GREAT! There's some discussion at Template_talk:DANFS that might indicate that several people are working on this, and need to coordinate. Template work is beyond my pay grade right now. Lou Sander (talk) 16:46, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've chimed in. Part of the confusion is that there are two different DANFS templates being talked about. One the DANFS template is more of a note. The Cite DANFS template is more complicated. The first now has a DANAS template, Cite DANAS is probably going to take more work and more information on the authors of each piece.Naraht (talk) 16:54, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Account deletion

How to delete my account? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JCCrespin (talkcontribs) 04:50, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because Wikipedia content is licensed under the GFDL and the CC-BY-SA, all edits must be kept for attribution purposes, and so your account cannot be deleted. You do, however, have the right to vanish, which you can exercise by (1) requesting your user page (found at Special:Mypage) and subpages be deleted, by adding the {{db-userreq}} template to them; (2) requesting to change your username to something that is unconnected with you (possibly a random collection of letters and numbers); (3) never logging in to your account again. The "right to vanish" does not mean anyone has the right to a fresh start under a new identity. Anyone who wants to continue editing should request a change of username instead so edits can be reattributed.Template:Z41--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 06:06, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You can make a request at Wikipedia:Oversight to see whether they will delete the two edits you have made. -- Jreferee (talk) 10:23, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    editing an infobox

Hi. I've been trying to add additional details in the infobox section of the Krishan Kumar Modi article. But even after adding the necessary details, the additional text isn't reflected in the article. To be specific, when I add details of the subject's wife in the edit section, it doesn't show on the article, despite using the necessary Wikicode. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Can anyone help out?

    Disojak (talk) 06:24, 3 February 2014 (UTC) DisojaK[reply]

Another editor has been actively editing Krishan Kumar Modi over the last several hours. Perhaps you encountered an edit conflict? Stigmatella aurantiaca (talk) 06:50, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox person doesn't have a "wife" field. So adding one to the article will not work. You can only use those fields that are already set up in the template. There is a "spouse" field, so you'd have to use that. Dismas|(talk) 07:01, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia for businesses

    Hi,

I am part of a company that has a Wikipedia page. I was wondering if there were any tips you could give me on how to make the page more of a source of information rather than an advert for the business.

    Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.68.194.84 (talk) 09:06, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since you are part of the company, edits that you can make to the article on that company are limited to those listed at WP:COIU. However, if you list the company name in this discussion thread, we can take a look at it and revise it. -- Jreferee (talk) 10:02, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    The company is Tamar.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.68.194.84 (talk) 11:01, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Tamar.com also reads like a resume due to the bulleted notable events list. Instead of "1995: Established by CEO Tanya Goodin" and "1997: Company moves to current premises in Chiswick." the article could read something like "Tamar.com was established in 1995 in London, England by Tanya Goodin as a marking company that specializes on online digitital brands (?). Two years later in 1997, the company moved to Chiswick, a district of west London." The article can be improved by using prose to describe the topic. Beyond "provide the rocket fuel which has ignited some of the UK’s most successful and profitable digital brands",[1] I don't know what you do to make money. As for the Wikipedia article "igniting digital brands" (what does that mean?), "driving online traffic" (how?), "Tamar’s offering" (is that some sort of religious sacrifice by the company?). Most of the sources I find under "tamara.com are press releases (PR Newswire, Marketwire, etc.). Press releases from Tamar.com are not independent of Tamar.com. Wikipedia articles should be written from Wikipedia reliable sources that are independent of Tamar.com. However, when I looked at information on Tanya Goodin, I do find independent reliable source information and name of the company is listed as Tamara. The article probably should be move from Tamar.com (which advertises the website is not the WP:COMMONNAME) to something like Tamara (company). -- Jreferee (talk) 11:41, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    What do you call this?

    Hi!

What do you call Kashf -e- hijab-کشف حجاب- in English?

As a description about this article: Kashf -e- hijab is part of history of Iran; in 1314 (Solar Hijri calendar)-about 80 years ago- in Iran, Rezā Shāh ruled that no woman allowed to wear hijab.--Freshman404 (talk) 13:08, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite sure what you are asking, but did you try looking at the articles listed Hijab#See_also, or maybe one of these French_ban_on_face_covering#See_also or Hijab_by_country#Iran? articles do not necessarily translate one for one between the various language versions of Wikipedia.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:21, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I had check these articles, but they are not about Kashf-e-hijab (pronounce it as /kæʃfehejʌb/ ).

As I said above this is an historical law which forced women not to wear hijab.(Note that Iranian women wore hijab for more than 1000 years before that time.) And of course it is individual article which just have a common word with hijab.--Freshman404Talk 13:53, 3 February 2014 (UTC) I wonder if some one answer me!--Freshman404Talk 16:51, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Help editing the pudsey wiki

Hi please can you assist as were confused about this message "Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Pudsey. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. Cogito-Ergo-Sum (14) (talk) 13:29, 3 February 2014 (UTC)", as we modelled it on an existing entry (pasted below).

"Having grown and developed, Pudsey Judo Club has recently found a new home in Farsley, and has attained the highly coveted Bronze Clubmark Award. It is recognised across Yorkshire and Humberside as a centre of excellence."

All I wanted to add to the pudsey runners bit was "The club is for new members whatever their goal or experience. They have qualified coaches and various LiRFS to help you achieve your ambition."

Is this not as neutral as the judo entry saying they are a "centre of ecxellence" or the pudsey pacers club saying that they are "region's most popular and well-known running clubs"?

Obviously we dont want to break any rules although we would like to expand slightly on the entry that the robot has edited. Thanks for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pudseyru (talkcontribs) 14:14, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Marshall Jr — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.231.210.103 (talk) 15:37, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You would need an official communication from the copyright holder, presumably the University, to the Wikimedia foundation. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. But please be aware that even if copyright permission is granted, it is rare that text copied straight from an outside website would comply with such Wikipedia policies as Neutral point of view and encyclopedic tone. It would be much better if a new article was started from scratch, using the university web site as one of several sources, and citing facts properly to reliable sources. Moreover, if you are the subject of the article, it would be much best if you did not write it. See our conflict of interest policy and our guideline on autobiography. Also, please be sure that any article subject is notable, see WP:BIO and other pages linked there. If you do go ahead, i strongly urge the use of articles for creation. This is as it should be.

But, despite SUL, this does not happen on Wikipedias in other languages. There (I'll demonstrate what happens on the German Wikipedia) Contributions by Basemetal on the German WP and Contributions by Basemetal00 on the German WP show separately and of course edits made under Basemetal00 do not show up under Basemetal.

How come, despite of SUL, something like this can happen? Can this be fixed? Should this be considered a bug?

It's not so much that I really care about two old edits not showing up. It's more that I'm concerned about the technical implications of this in terms of the robustness of the software.

I'm assuming you mean the submission of User:Pudseyru/Pudsey Runners Running Club. It seems to be declined as non-notable.
The comment underneath reads "Lack of any claims of notability. No independent references to support or establish notability."
    Sorry :(
You could always re-write it, with third-party sources and explain why it's notable, then re-submit. Both are absolute requirements, even if it's a really well-written article. meteor_sandwich_yum (talk) 20:17, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am pretty sure he couldn't rewrite it in a way that explained why it's notable, because I am pretty sure the Pudsey Runners Running Club is not notable. Encouraging new contributors to work on articles that are destined for oblivion strikes me as cruel. Maproom (talk) 09:03, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do I use a named footnote more than once?

On WP:NAMEDREFS, it says to include a given reference within <ref name>...</ref> tags.
On WP:REFGROUP, it says to include a note (for the "Note" section) within <ref name=note>...</ref> tags.

Yet when I went to use an explanatory note more than once with <ref group=note><ref name=example>...</ref></ref> it returned an error message.

I realize the "hack" workaround {{#tag:ref|<ref>...</ref>}} exists but was wondering if there is some easy alternative like "<ref group=note; name=example>...</ref>" or something. If not, I can bear. Just wondering :) meteor_sandwich_yum (talk) 20:09, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi

Please could you help me with a problem on this page Lauren Crace's theatre Credits are in the wrong place on her page and not under the heading of Theatre Credits. but instead it is under the external links. Resubmitting an article

OK, SO I edited my new article and added more citations. However I'd like to resubmit it. There's no actual RESUBMIT button. So I was wondering, does the article get resubmitted after editing? The article name is North Coast Security Group. OR Will I have create a new article for it to be published?

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leldrid (talkcontribs) 21:25, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In [2] you deleted the first review. Don't delete reviews. I have restored it. It makes a Resubmit button. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:31, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Before resubmitting you should have read the feedback from the previous review. In the box at the top of the draft it says (inter alia):
"This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources."
The various words in blue are wikilinks, so you should follow them and read what it says in the links provided. Alongside the resubmit button it says "Please note that if the issues are not fixed, the draft will be rejected again.", and of course that is what has happened to your resubmission. In your draft, instead of references you have numerous external links in the body of the article text, and these are not permitted. Those which are relevant to support the text should be converted to references, and any others removed. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:22, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Alliance LARP

this page should be deleted, it has my name on it, the info has not been verified and its full of lies. Joseph Valenti

Long legal complaint about an article

my name is joseph valenti. This page should be deleted. this guy is one big fraud and is not very well known except for his trademark and infringement actions. Everything mentioned here-in is one-sided and pretty much a lie. Micheal Ventrella has already lost over and over again to me, three times in mediation, one of which was federally mandated, but he keeps resurfacing using another name but still using my i.p. He is currently copyright infringing upon my NERO Rule book copyright, and licensing the use of my rules to others. I see a bunch of copyrights here.... all of these copyrights mentioned here-in I see have my text from my literary work nero rule book - in them. this company wasn't around since 1989 - what a nice lie that is! I think that the groups age is clear if you took a look at the website registration, or any of the rule book copyrights, or looked at 'why he created alliance' in the first place, and when (in 2007 when I beat him in federal court during mediation). He keeps using the lie of 1989 so he gets more recognition for 'being around so long' and uses it to fraudulently convince people he is someone of importance when really he is only a license breaker, a nero trademark infringer, and NERO intellectual property infringer. I will gladly send you a document written by Michael Ventrella that bespeaks of him using the nero name and rules until I he loses in court if you contact me via e-mail, or tel. (Redacted). It wasn't Turbulence from NERO ford Ivey and me, Joseph Valenti - it was a cease and desist when he violated my licensed area in PA. NOT A SINGLE NERO CHAPTER WENT WITH MICHAEL VENTRELLA - ANOTHER OUTRIGHT LIE. I contact the infringers and convince them to get an attorney other than Ventrella, and using this method I have closed about a dozen or so 'nero alliance' chapters down in the past. I have just recently fond out he is still around and using my NERO Trademark and my copyrighted materials, and has opened a few more of his 'chapters'. I am currently in the process of developing suits against everyone of his 'chapters', and him, in federal courts around the country, ALL of whom are using my copyrighted intellectual property. My NERO Rule book copyright is TX-4-003-776. Michael Ventrella's all are dated after my copyright - and include my literary work in his publications. NERO was created by Ford Ivey, I bought NERO from Ford Ivey in August 1998. Michael Ventrella, an attorney in PA, is a copyright infringer on my i.p. and a fraud in his sales of alliance chapters and the use of my i.p. to generate commerce. the monster camp movie was denounced by the very producers when they found out the movie was made about an infringing company that no longer exists by the way. Contact them and ask them. Delete any and all references to NERO on this page, since I own the trademark and I have not given Michael Ventrella permission to use the name on any page in any way shape or form. My name is joseph valenti and I attest that everything I have stated here is the total truth - Feb 03 2014 JValentiNero (talk) 21:51, 3 February 2014 (UTC) I can be contacted by telephone at (Redacted).[reply]

the alliance larp entry has a ton of lies in it that were NEVER VALIDATED. It has my name in it - joe valenti - in sentences that were never verified.

this entire page has never been verified and is full of lies. the copyright information linked here shows works that infringe upon my copy-written materials. joseph valenti - (Redacted) -

At about 3pm on 2-3-2014 I went out and corrected the page, but it was revered by cluebot, so I looked for the help desk to help me figure out how to get someone to explain what I need to do to things right and be read.. so the page gets deleted or my info be removed since its defaming me and false.

Below is what I wrote into the section….

Text inserted by the OP, and removed by cluebot

    History

-- My name is Joseph Valenti, and I own the intellectual property Michael Ventrella is unlawfully renting to others. -- I have been, and continue to protect my i.p. from this person. -- I re-wrote this entry for you and tried to show you the inconsistencies in your own policies along the way. -- This is the best I can do in such short notice, but the general gist is correct. -- Note that one of your staff deleted my Talk about why this page should be deleted, and I noted that the alliance larp page has lies galore on it and info that was never verified, ever, which is the very reason why my info was deleted from the talk page. -- Please, if you're not going to let my writings remain, keep my name and company and the word - nero - off this 'alliance larp' page unless you contact me directly to get information verified and things in writing. -- You should delete this alliance larp page altogether, if my info remains I will be forced to come here everyday and check the info on it and get it changed to what is correct. -- The info about me is a Lie, and it is defaming my character with intent to harm my business and 'on Wikipedia people are allowing it to remain on the site in the public view, take it to bne the truth' and that means we already have a serious problem on our hands, and we're going to have a more serious problem. -- Do not change the text. The anonymous person 'EatsShootsAndLeaves' is probably related to 'alliance' organization. please keep that person away from me and my posts. Joseph Valenti - (Redacted) - February 03, 2014 -

In mid March 1998, after years of getting cease and desist letters from the New England Role Playing Organization (NERO) owner Ford Ivey, Michael A. Ventrella split his chapter from NERO and started his own business called NERO Alliance, being immediately accused by Ford Ivey of Trademark infringement and copyright infringement.

NOT A SINGLE NERO CHAPTER OWNERS LEFT NERO AND JOINED MICHALEL VENTRELLA in the new 'NERO Alliance' organization. (I, joseph valenti, will correct the information for Wikipedia since they DID NOT VERIFY the information before allowing it on their website - breaking their own policies that they enforce against me.)

The NERO assets, including the nero rule book copyright and trademark, was purchased by Joseph Valenti on august 03, 1998 and Joseph began contacting all the unlawfully licensed 'nero alliance' chapters to get them to speak to any lawyer about the lawsuit he was threatening, until November, 2005 when Michael Ventrella, desperate to stop losing chapters, filed a Frivolous lawsuit against NERO International (yo, Wikipedia people. this is the wrong name and it was never verified so you violate your own rules). Mike found out he had no case and joseph Owned NERO and the NERO i.p. and Mike dropped the lawsuit.

"""At this point, Mike decided to distance himself from NERO and in March 2007 he renamed his company to The Alliance LARP. """"" WHAT ???? Caught in a lie - info that is not verified on a wikipedia site goes against Wikipedia rules. ALSO - the alliancelarp.com facebook or website say's """since 1989""" ; another LIE! --- And someone on Wikipedia staff wants this page to be kept on Wikipedia - sounds like an internal review is needed!

Mike Ventrella continued his copyright infringement of NERO's I.P. and published another book in 2009 that contained the nero i.p. in it.

The Alliance continues to lose its chapters when joseph valenti contacts them and has a truthful yet respectful conversation with them - they learn they are infringing too, and they close thier business.

The alliance has added several new chapters since the end of the lawsuit - but a little research shows that most 'nero alliance' chapters left Michael's organization altogether when they found out that Michael Ventrella does not own NERO (he changed his name away from it) and they knew they were going to get sued if they continued to operate after 2007. After all, Michael Ventrella did state, publicly, that he was going to go all the way against me, Joseph Valenti, when he frivolously sued me, but then he let the lawsuit drop, signaling his loss.

In 2007, he and others formed Faire Play Inc. and purchased land in northeastern Pennsylvania where they are building a medieval town used for LARPing.

On April 26, 2009, Alliance LARP was featured in a G4 Underground episode.[1]

    thank you Joseph Valenti

Hello, Joseph. The article Alliance LARP is currently unsatisfactory, because its content is not referenced to reliable sources. The text you inserted was equally unacceptable for the same reason, which is why Cluebot reverted your change. TheRedPenOfDoom has made a number of changes to improve the current article, but it still remains unreferenced, and therefore does not establish that the subject is notable (in Wikipedia's special sense). For this reason the article is currently being discussed for deletion, as it says at the top.
If the consensus at the deletion discussion is to keep, then your best course is, after reading about how to proceed if you have a Conflict of interest to post on the article's talk page your suggestions for what should be changed, with references to reliable sources independent of the subject.
Wikipedia takes no position on your dispute with Michael Ventrella, and will go entirely on what reliable sources unconnected with either of you have said about the subject. --ColinFine (talk) 14:02, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

start - and once again no information is given. We'll wait and see the results of the review. until then, I stay away from Wikipedia and tell everyone I know to stay away too. 96.239.33.245 (talk) 18:12, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For nearly 25 years, my partner (recently deceased) have been working on a Parsons documentary. We interviewed virtually all of his friends and colleagues who are/were still alive. My partner collected hundreds of photos of Parsons and his cohorts and even discovered a gelatinous substance tucked away in the JPL archive that turned out to be the only complete coverage of the first jet-asisted take-off (JATO) in which Jack and other key personnel are featured, We continue to work with the blessing of the Cameron Parsons Foundation and the Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.), where Aleister Crowley's philosophy of Thelema is still practiced world-wide.

The first biography of Jack Parsons to be published was SEX AND ROCKETS by "John Carter" without the cooperation of the C-P Foundation or the O.T.O. The second bio appeared a year later under the title STRANGE ANGEL…, and we all cooperated with the author, George Pendle, who presented us with a genuinely insightful book proposal and had gleaned much technical knowledge as science writer for the London TIMES; I shared with him all of our interview material and he was then able to expand upon what I had learned. I'm still confident that our documentary will gain further financial and creative backing to finish one day.

The Wikipedia biography of Jack Parsons is primarily extracted from the Pendle book, and I see Spencer Kansa's WORMWOOD STAR an unauthorized biography of Jack's widow, Cameron, published as WORMWOOD STAR. I see references to FBI files, JPL archives and works by and about Aleister Crowley credited in the footnotes. The many, many, many contributors to Jack's Wikipedia entry have garbled the facts like the old game of "Telephone."

Most recently "Sir Richardson," a 20 year old Brit named Jacob Joseph Angelo Richardson (username JJARichardson) has made a ludicrous amount of "fixes" and says on his user page that he's working on getting Parsons into the "Featured Article" category. That would be wonderful, but not at the expense of accuracy.

I would like to get in touch with young Richardson in hope of taking him through the Wikipedia draft verbally. He boasts of his editing acuity, and I believe I may be the world's #1 scholar of Marvel Whiteside Parsons, commonly known as Jack. Could you, kind scholar, please put us in touch?

I have signed up for access to Wikipedia only today, and I'm terribly confused. Could you, kind scholar, please put us in touch? Please put me out of my misery.  : - )

BAFTA's Film Awards ceremony articles - incorrect years!

    67th British Academy Film Awards

hi there, it seems that, at some point, somebody has created a page for the British Academy Film Awards and incorrectly calculated the year. the ceremony later this month is actually the 66th, not the 67th (see link above). Bafta doesn't officially state which 'year' their awards are (only - 'British Academy Film Awards in 2014' for example, if 2014 was the year of presentation. however i can confirm that if you're counting, the first ceremony was presented in 1949 (for films of 1947, the year the academy was formed, and 1948). so if the ceremony in 1949 was the first, 2014 must be the 66th. this means changing all the article titles, and even as a registered editor i don't think i can do this. is there any way you can help? thank you nick williams — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nickwilliams45 (talkcontribs) 14:08, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2011 was the 64th, according to BAFTA themselves. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:33, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks David - i'm told Bafta got it wrong here. the reference is now removed from that page if you go back and take a look. Unlike the Oscars, Bafta don’t seem to use this numbering system, but others do on their behalf (except on the page you pointed out, good find!) which is a source of confusion if they don’t understand how it worked in the early years, eg. 1949 was the year of the first ceremony, even though it covered films from the two preceding years, 1947 and 1948. For the ceremony in 2014, it would be accurate to say it's the 66th, not the 67th - can this be changed for clarity? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nickwilliams45 (talkcontribs) 16:30, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Nickwilliams45 (talk) 16:31, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If BAFTA and those reporting the awards don't generally use that terminology, it sounds to me that it would be original research or synthesis to allocate numbers which don't occur in the sources. The articles should therefore probably be renamed to a system which matches the sources, presumably by year. It may, however, be unwise to do it unilaterally, and it would probably make sense to discuss it. Talk:67th British Academy Film Awards probably wouldn't attract much attention, but Talk:British Academy Film Awards would hopefully be seen by more editors. I notice, however, that at the foot of both 67th British Academy Film Awards and British Academy Film Awards there is a template {{BAFTA Film Awards Chron}} which lists them by date (apparently date of film, not date of the ceremony, though the heading implies the contrary) and not by ordinal number, and includes a link from 1947 to 1st British Academy Film Awards (which discuss a ceremony in 1948 for films in 1947). You were saying that the ceremony in 1949 was the first, but the existing articles appear to disagree with you. They may, of course be wrong, but (as I implied earlier) this isn't the place to discuss the detail; the article talk page would be the right place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Biddulph (talkcontribs) 17:14, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the advice david. i've taken this over to Talk:British Academy Film Awards so let's see if it gets picked up. looks like bafta's own website wasn't totally clear to begin with, looking at the first bafta brochure which is the reference for that article 1st British Academy Film Awards, it says in small writing 'presented in 1949', so 1949 was definitely when the awards were first presented. thanks for pointing out the problem with the template {{BAFTA Film Awards Chron}} too... oh dear! replace current logo on wikipedia page

I created an account to make edits/image updates to our already existing company page and do not see how to replace the image in the right navigation. Rex Hospital. Rexhealth (talk) 14:44, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The file must first be uploaded, see the File Upload Wizard and Help:Upload#Uploading files. However, you must be "autoconfirmed" to upload files to Wikipedia which requires at least 10 previous edits and an accountant at least 4 days old. If you can indicate where on the web the new logo can be found, someone will probably upload it for you. DES (talk) 15:08, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Disambiguation page needed

A simple disambiguation page is needed, and I'm concerned that I can't handle the subtleties of creating it myself. The terms that need to be disambiguated are Danas a newspaper, and DANAS, a link to Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons, for which "DANAS" is a common abbreviation. Lou Sander (talk) 15:23, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Slightly complicated by the existence of Typhoon Danas as well, otherwise you could get away with a hatnote... Give me a couple of minutes, I'll sort something out. Yunshui  15:26, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Referencing errors on Trio hellenique

Reference help requested. Can somebody insert the ref.list correctly for me? New and this and am doing it wrong apparently. Thanks. Thanks, FNikolaidis (talk) 15:29, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have done some basic formatting of the references, you can find help Help:Referencing for beginners. You should be aware that in order to qualify for a stand alone article, the subject must have received significant coverage in reliable third party sources and currently I am not seeing any evidence of that, just the subject's own facebook page. Without better referencing, it is likely the article will be deleted. You can request the article be moved to your user space sandbox so that you have time to gather the reliably published sources that will be required for a mainspace article. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:19, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. It seems that another user has already fixed some issues, but you need to do some additional work. The <ref></ref> tags need to go right after the statements they support, generally after any punctuation. Then {{reflist}} goes at the bottom to display all of them (but this is already done). See below for a visual guide:
    Visual inline citation guide
    Formatting references using inline citations

All information in Wikipedia articles should be verified by citations to reliable sources. Our preferred method of citation is using the "cite.php" form of inline citations, using the <ref></ref> elements. Using this method, each time a particular source is mined for information (don't copy word-for-word!), a footnote is placed in the text ("inline"), that takes one to the detail of the source when clicked, set forth in a references section after the text of the article.

In brief, anywhere you want a footnote to appear in a piece of text, you place an opening <ref> tag followed by the text of the citation which you want to appear at the bottom of the article, and close with a </ref> tag. Note the closing slash ("/"). For multiple use of a single reference, the opening ref tag is given a name, like so: <ref name="name"> followed by the citation text and a closing </ref> tag. Each time you want to use that footnote again, you simply use the first element with a slash, like so: <ref name="name" />.

In order for these references to appear, you must tell the software where to display them, using either the code <references/> or, most commonly, the template, {{Reflist}} which can be modified to display the references in columns using {{Reflist|colwidth=30em}}. Per our style guidelines, the references should be displayed in a separate section denominated "References" located after the body of the article.

I have rewritten this article to be in keeping with the suggested changes. It was deleted once again.... almost as if no one had even read the changes.

This process is seemingly arbitrary and capricious in this deletion and requirements. My basis for this is that this article was written on a model of a heretofore accepted wiki article. Now that it is not accepted - in fact deleted in its entirety - is baffling not to mention demoralizing.

Pls advise further - thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GeoLewis (talkcontribs) 18:36, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My advice would be to follow the advice you were given when the article submission was declined. Remove the promotional language (see WP:NPOV and WP:NOTADVERT and WP:PEACOCK), find and include reliably published third party sources to verify the claims (see WP:RS and WP:V and Help:Referencing for beginners and realize that not everything is going to qualify for an article no matter how hard you try (WP:42 and WP:N ) -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:40, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Please tweak this Category page

Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons isn't working quite right. It shows up as "hidden" and "polluted". I don't know what "hidden" is, or why this category appears there. I DO know that "polluted" sounds like something that needs attention. My skills don't include working with category pages, other than at a very low level. Lou Sander (talk) 18:57, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It should be a hidden category, just as Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships is, since its use is Wikipedia-internal—it doesn't categorize the subjects of the articles, just identifies (for editorial purposes) a source common to the articles. (If you're not currently seeing hidden categories in articles, click on "Preferences" at the top of any page, select "Appearance", then under "Advanced options" check the box next to "Show hidden categories" and save your preferences.) I'm not seeing anything about "polluted" either on the category page or in the articles categorized; could you clarify exactly where you're seeing that? Deor (talk) 19:38, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see it when I click "Edit" while I'm on the category page. Lou Sander (talk) 20:14, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See Template:Polluted category (and its talk page, for someone else confused by its use). I'm not exactly sure why it's there, but the presence of the template on the category page is harmless. If you really want to know, you can ask on Naraht's talk page, since he created the category page with that template present. Deor (talk) 20:23, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I created it with the Template:Polluted category since the DANFS category that it was copied to was marked that way. It indicated that it shouldn't be a huge concern if the category contains both mainspace and talkspace pages.Naraht (talk) 21:08, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, there are some things in this world that each of us should just leave to people who know more about it than we do. This is one of them for me. ;-) I'm sure that these matters are in far better hands than mine, and that's where they belong. Thanks for all that each of you do. Lou Sander (talk) 03:10, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In case you want to understand it better for future situations, Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories is a bot-generated list of categories containing both mainspace (articles) and userspace pages. The idea is that the report can be used to clean up such categories, for example because we don't want our readers to click a category link on an article and see userspace drafts. But there are some categories where we don't mind that mainspace and userspace are mixed, for example some hidden categories like Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons which only display on articles for registered users with "Show hidden categories" selected at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. {{Polluted category}} causes the bot to not include the category in the list (currently it doesn't have userspace pages and wouldn't have been included anyway). PrimeHunter (talk) 14:27, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The bit about userspace drafts makes it all make sense. Thanks. In spite of my best efforts to the contrary, I'm learning more about categories. Lou Sander (talk) 14:46, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To be more clear {{Polluted category}} should be called {{Category that we don't care whether it is polluted or not}}, but that's a bit long. :)Naraht (talk) 15:29, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Linking to another Wiki page

How would I link one page I am creating to other pages that have to do with the page I would like to create? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kukckr (talkcontribs)

Hi, Firstly, I assume you're talking about Tell Me Another Morning? Secondly, if you want to create wikilinks to other articles, you include the word in brackets. So if we want to link to shrimp, we write [[shrimp]]. If you want to create a link to an article, but use a different word in the text, it would look like this [[shrimp|jumbo shrimp]], which would come out like this: jumbo shrimp. If you are talking about external web links, you would add those to the External links section of your article by putting the website in a single bracket, adding a space, then adding a description. [http://www.wikipedia.org Wikipedia - The Free Encyclopedia] resolves as Wikipedia - The Free Encyclopedia. If you're talking about creating references, that's a different story, and you should probably read references for beginners. Wikipedia has a built in citation toolbar accessible from the edit window that makes citing sources very easy. Hope that helps. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:53, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The image that you have for the bio of Thutmose III has undergone an alteration

The image that you have for your bio on Thutmose III is different than the original statue of Thutmose III. The body is the same but, the head is different. I have the book: Visual Encyclopedia of Art Egypt By SCALA and on page 176 are images of Thutmose III. Your image brings to life a quote by Frederick Douglass when he said This: "America is false to the past, false to the present, and solemnly binds herself to be false to the future." Dear Editors,

This is a complaint concerning Ram Bahadur Bomjon Some time ago there was an attempt of authors/editors of this biography entry about Ram Bomjon to use it as a means of libel of my person, who am mentioned in the article as one of his victims, the Slovak woman (former versions) and now, as Marici.

Last time it was a sentence where the author cited the public justification of Bomjon (the biography entry's subject), that he had kidnapped, tortured and let raped me because of "witchcraft". So after my complaint to Wikipedia, this sentence had been taken away.

Recently but a hidden manipulative attempt appeared again, when, though a new paragraph appeared about my person under the Controversies chapter, which is much more accurate, yet the link to my website provided there was directing not to the Home Page of my website, but to a long article about the attempt of this cult to create a public opinion that I am supposed to be schizophrenic, mentally disturbed, etc.

Unwisely I myself had named that single article "Is Marici schizophrenic..?", not knowing that someone will misuse this title to manipulate with public opinion about me by adding a link to this single article on Wikipedia, avoiding the link to the more relevant Home Page, from where the readers could learn also about the more important facts : criminal acts, the other victims, names of perpetrators and witnesses, media articles, etc. Only a few people did read the whole article, where I am explaining how this cult tried to "make me crazy" in the public eye. Most people, most probably, just absorb the content of the title.

I have written to Wikipedia with a request to correct this problem, and replace the link with the more relevant link to the Home Page of my website, but finally I decided to correct it myself. To prevent similar misuse of links to my website, I took the liberty to add a short sentence mentioning my website in the other language versions, as there I am giving an overview of all known controversies connected to Bomjon, not just my case. Also a more relevant link (than an article about my alleged mental problem) would be an overview about the media articles dealing with Bomjon. People should know about the background activities of this person. But, being an officially declared "enemy" of this Guru and his cult, I don't want to advertise my own website in this article, which should remain neutral. Yet, when the authors and editors breach the neutrality of the article by using it against me, I wish to correct the biased information and manipulation with links provided by them.

But I was unable to correct this link on the References chapter, as it had been blocked for new links and also repairs. That's why I am writing here, with the request to replace the link to the single article mentioning schizophrenia, with the link to the Home Page of my website.

Also, after repeated attempts of the followers of Bomjon to use Wikipedia as a weapon of their libel-war against me, I am requesting the board of editors and anyone responsible for the standard of Wikipedia, to make sure that similar biased updates, harming individuals connected to the biography subject, do not happen anymore in the future.

Thank you, Marici Punarvasu (talk) 09:04, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the confusing link to a section within your website, and reformatted the link to the the home page of your web site. (The references section is not "blocked for new links and also repairs" – it's just that Wikipedia reference sections don't actually include references, they just show the references which were given in the preceding article, so you change the references at the place where they are given in the article.) Kilmarnock & Troon Railway.

    A Locomotive.

I have just removed a reference in this article because it is obvious that whoever put it there had not read Robertson's book. I have the book here, and in its notes at the end the writers of the quoted letters are named, so the speculation ("probably...") about who wrote them is pointless.

In removing this speculation I have wiped out a reference to a work by Paxton, which has somehow led to a "Cite error" message in bold type. I do not know how to deal with this.

The book from which the quotations are made is Dr C. J. A. Robertson's "The Origins of the Scottish Railway System" (1983), pp 24 and 355 (note 83). Hyjack7 (talk) 16:21, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The problem was that the reference you removed was also used in other citations, which were left dangling. It would have been better to remove the "probably" if the source did not support it, but leave in the ref, or if the ref did not support any part of the content in that paragraph, move it to one of its other uses. How can I get our article "verified"?

I have created an article about UK National Astronomy Week, with the help of others, which is now published and is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Astronomy_Week

In several places the following comment appears: "This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources."

I have now added a couple of citations (there were already several that I would have thought sufficient). For example, amongst other citations, the article in the learned journal A&G ("Astronomy and Geophysics") about the week would have been sufficient to verify that the article and the week is genuine.

So how do I go about getting these comments removed and the article "verified". Is there more that should be done?

I've been searching hard for guidance on this, and probably didn't look in the right place, so apologies if that is the case?

    Thanks....... Brendan Blake.
