The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (branded and marketed as the Samsung Galaxy Note7) is an Android phablet smartphone developed and produced by Samsung Electronics. The phone is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5,[3] and was announced by Samsung on 2 August 2016 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York, USA.[4] It was released on 19 August 2016 in the US and is expected to be released in Europe on 2 September 2016.

Specifications

Hardware

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features a 5.7-inch display with a curved AMOLED screen at a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. It is available with 64GB of internal storage and includes a microSD card slot that can use microSD cards up to 256GB.[4] The inclusion of this port is a response to the criticism Samsung faced when it omitted the port from the Galaxy Note 5. The Galaxy Note 7 is the first Galaxy smartphone to feature an iris scanner, which can be used to unlock the phone. The Note 7 is also Samsung's first smartphone to feature a USB Type-C charging port.[4][5] There is a TV-tuner in devices sold in Korea. The phone does not feature an IR port or a radio receiver.

The Galaxy Note 7 is powered by an Exynos 8890 Octa SoC internationally, while US variants will ship with a Snapdragon 820 SoC.[6] The device is also equipped with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

Camera

The Galaxy Note 7 features the same camera module as the Galaxy S7. It has a 12 megapixel sharp shooting rear camera with f/1.7 aperture. The camera is capable of capturing 4K (2160p) at 30FPS, 1080p at 30/60fps and 720p slow-mo @ 240fps. The secondary front-facing camera is a 5 megapixel ISOCELL sensor with f/1.7 aperture and wide angle lens. Both cameras have Auto HDR capability.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launches with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and is expected to receive the Android 7.0 update in January 2017[7] and is the first Galaxy phone to feature a redesigned version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, named "Grace UX".[1]

Storage

The Galaxy Note 7 is equipped with 64GB of storage as well as a micro-SD slot. [8]

Release

Pre-orders in South Korea already broke records with 200,000 plus units pre-ordered within 2 days.[9] Samsung Canada stated that pre-orders in Canada were "outstanding".[10] The demand also forced countries like Malaysia, Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine to delay their releases due to shortage in supply.[11][12][13]
