Need advice to improve Performance fabrics

User:RAJIVVASUDEV, you have used a lot of words to say almost nothing. The only meaningful remark is that these fabrics purportedly make polyester hydrophilic, and cotton hydrophobic. Please address Roxy's concerns in a more direct way. I think you need to go back to the talk page of the article, at Talk:Performance fabrics and work out with other editors what sort of references should be added to the article. As best I can tell, you are inserting references that, at best, relate only tangentially to the statements that you are intending to support. If you want to improve the definition, and are finding some resistance, the talk page is also the place to put forward your suggested improvement and justify it. If you are not getting enough participation on the talk page, you may need to start an RfC or other steps to get more widespread input. — jmcgnh^{(talk) (contribs)} 06:55, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

RAJIVVASUDEV: the problem with your explanations of the term performance fabric is not that they're "technical and not understandable easily". It's that they're vacuous, they don't say anything.

If someone writes of a "performance car", he's probably referring to its acceleration and top speed, and not its capacity or comfort. But I've no idea what you mean by "performance fabric". Maproom (talk) 08:02, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

@RAJIVVASUDEV: I was looking to find an article named Engineered fabrics for contrast but such a page does not yet exist. A Google search indicates that this term is frequently used for fabrics that have been treated with chemical coatings to alter their characteristics. R - please, no bold text. What I see at the article is that you worked on it a lot in 2015, and recently (August) lengthened it significantly. I expected to see more discussion at the Talk of the article rather than individuals' Talk pages and here at Teahouse. Please be civil. Hi Rajiv, How are Performance Fabrics different from Technical textile, which is a page detailing various forms of clothing that are not worn for aesthetic purposes, but for a function? It appears that you are already discussing this at Talk:Performance fabrics#Performance fabrics with Roxy the dog. Article talk pages are usually the best places for such discussions because it makes it easier for other editors who might be interested in the subject matter to participate in the discussion. However, you need to be patient because editors occasionally get busy and might not immediately respond to your posts. Personally, although I think the changes you made were probably done in good faith, I don't think that huge image gallery you added to the article is really an improvement and actually makes the article worse than it would be without it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:15, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Private Spaceflight, 1971 early "Project Harvest Moon" NEED A MENTOR.

I am 87 years old, was the instigator of this project, and feel it should be recorded on Wikipedia. There is a Wall Street Journal article verifying its existence, but I don't know how to upload it.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I found a couple of mentions, including this one Lost in Space: The Fall of NASA and the Dream of a New Space Age By Greg Klerkx p175 which could be the starting point for an article. This other mention, at CollectSpace.com probably can't be used. I did not find the Wall Street Journal article, but I found one that mentions you, a syndicated article that was picked up by many small newspapers,, an AP release, also widely distributed, several by LaMont, and a status report in November. This might actually be enough for a stub article. If further sources can be found, including perhaps this elusive Wall Street Journal article, this might very well be a worthwhile article to create. I happen to have a couple newspaper accounts (NY Times and another), so I looked for "Harvest Moon Project" in 1971 and found these articles. Anyone with a US newspaper account ought to be able to find the syndicated articles. I didn't have access to the Wall Street Journal, and I didn't look at 1972. Sorry, Anobium625, "external links" is a bit of wiki jargon. By "external links", I mean URL hyperlinks to those external sources. For example, if you found the source on https://example.com/sourcing-location, that link is an external link. It can either be linked directly or linked with some markup, such as [https://example.com/sourcing-location source 1], which renders as source 1.

Given what you said, my guess is that they are paywalled. Nonetheless, if you have a generic URL to the paywalled source, such as one which would display as a paywall to us non-subscribers (an example would be this one, taken from Veganism), that can be helpful here. —Nøkkenbuer (talk • contribs) 15:41, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Sure, I'll review the work at your sandbox. If you don't mind, I can also make some changes to it. By the way, I refactored your post slightly by adding four colons before it. I hope you're okay with that and apologies in advance if you intended to outdent. Adding those colons threads the discussion by indenting the post, which helps improve the readability of the discussion. To Nøkkenbuer: An update. I found an active discussion of Project Harvest Moon at <https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=46196.0>. Although I had to register (no charge), I had no difficulty joining the forum, where GVV has uploaded the WSJ article, a magazine article with details of the project's experiments, and the text of Rep. Hey folks, I'm a new editor here and I'm still learning / digging around. Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

I work with an music artist at my record label and we're trying to find his page. It disappeared around the beginning of 2017, apparently over a battle of sources. I searched the deleted log and couldn't find it. Are there other ways I can find it, or find the topic and re-open the conversation?

But, LukeWhiteplays, before you go any further with this, please read WP:COI. It wasn't "his page", and if it ever gets created again it won't be "his page". It should be an article about him, based almost entirely on what people who have no connection with him have chosen to publish about him; and he and his associates are discouraged from editing it directly. Thanks for responding Vexations, ColineFine & David notMD. Thanks especially for the clarification on my misuse of the "his page" vernacular. Clearly that's an important distinction. I've read through the articles you suggested and found them quite helpful. However, I could use some additional clarification. Can you confirm that a page will be deleted, regardless of the relevance and non-bias nature of most of it, if some of it appears to be biased? Also, how do you make that distinction? Is it voted on by a team of your peers? Or is it considered blatant promotion because 1) it's being edited by "associates" and therefore cannot in any way be un-biased, and 2) because certain statements lack references? Thanks for your patience and time! Again, I'm new here and still learning.

Hello again, Lukewhiteplays. Any article about a musical performer must establish clearly that the performer meets our notabilty guideline for musical performers. This must be completely convincing to editors who review the article. The majority of musical performers do not qualify. Any administrator can delete an article if no credible claim of notabilty is made. If there is genuine doubt about notabilty, then the matter can be discussed for a week or more at Articles for Deletion. People directly associated with the performer financially must complete a mandatory paid editing disclosure. This is not negotiable and should be your very next edit. Paid editors must use the Articles for creation process to write a draft for review by uninvolved editors. As for adding unreferenced content, that is never a good idea, and paid editors are held to a very stringent standard. Please read and study Your first article, and follow every step described there. The bias issue is about need to write in a neutral point of view. See WP:NPOV. You also have a conflict of interest that requires you comply with WP:PAID. If you do not, you risk being blocked. From WP:PAID "Editors who are or expect to be compensated for their contributions must disclose their employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any paid contributions. They must do this on their main user page, or on the talk page accompanying any paid contributions, or in edit summaries...The conflict of interest guideline further advises editors to place the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template at the top of the talk page accompanying any paid contributions (and to fill in the parameters), and to supply a clearly visible list of their paid contributions on their main user page. I was trained and guided by Mz7 who is an extremely kind and knowledgeable instructor on counter vandalism subject. Draft Article: Deanna Kamiel

In response to the question by McLennan re third parties commenting on her work, I believe the awards section satisfies that criteria, in particular, the Guggenheim Fellowship award that she won for "Maggie and the Men of Minnesota" in 1984. Katsheron (talk) 17:59, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

The only reference in that section of Draft:Deanna Kamiel is a single line that mentions that she was a recipient of the award, Katsheron. This is not capable of establishing notability, which requires extensive material from independent sources. A reliable source would be something like a reputable newspaper/magazine (or the website of such a reputable news organization), a published book, or an academic journal. Roko's Basilisk

• @Lightcaller: The topic is discussed at LessWrong#Roko's_basilisk, although a stand-alone article might be possible if you can demonstrate noteworthy discussion of the concept outside of LessWrong. If you're going to write an article about anyone or anything, here are the steps you should follow:

1) Choose a topic whose notability is attested by discussions of it in several reliable independent sources. -- A casual glance on Google does pull up sources such as this, this, and this. It is also apparently discussed in this book, although the preview won't load that part for me. I have not read the sources enough to verify that they discuss Roko's Basilisk independent of LessWrong (or at least beyond LessWrong).

2) Gather as many professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources you can find.

3) Focus on just the ones that are not dependent upon or affiliated with the subject, but still specifically about the subject and providing in-depth coverage (not passing mentions). If you do not have at least three such sources, the subject is not yet notable and trying to write an article at this point will only fail.

4) Summarize those sources from step 2, adding citations at the end of them. You'll want to do this in a program with little/no formatting, like Microsoft Notepad or Notepad++, and not in something like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer.

5) Combine overlapping summaries (without arriving at new statements that no individual source supports) where possible, repeating citations as needed.

6) Paraphrase the whole thing just to be extra sure you've avoided any copyright violations or plagiarism.

7) Use the Article wizard to post this draft and wait for approval.

8) Expand the article using sources you put aside in step 2 (but make sure they don't make up more than half the sources for the article, and make sure that affiliated sources don't make up more than half of that).

Doing something besides those steps typically results in the article not being approved, or even in its deletion. Ian.thomson (talk) 04:25, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

What's the procedure for improper speedy AfD closes due to nominator withdraw

I admit I probably should have been watching the AFD more closely, but Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Irfan Adelbi was closed speedily despite another editor supporting the deletion. On further review, I've found it unlikely that it would meet WP:GNG, and the keep !voters do not consider the FAQ of WP:ATH, where it explicitly says [t]he topic-specific notability guidelines described on this page do not replace the general notability guideline. I'm a little lost as to what to do now though. Do I list this at DRV? Can I just contact the nominator? Is the nominator allowed to relist the AfD? Also, I feel kinda weird asking at the Teahouse. Is there a AfD specific question board? (Though I don't imagine one would get that much traffic, so I guess I've answered my own question on that last one.) Hello, Gasper8. Wikipedia is not an advertising site. Lists of companies in Wikipedia generally only contain companies that are, or could be, the subject of a Wikipedia article; that is, companies that meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability. If the labels are new, it is very unlikely that they meet these criteria, because it is unlikely that they have yet been the subject of extensive coverage in independent reliable published sources. I don't understand how am I to verify information if the information I have is all I can receive and it is reliable source. Do you actually have to be with that person, home, etc...for Wikipidea to believe your story. I am writing for Draft; Hector LaTorre/Bermudez and want those who are lost in life to see how well you can make a change to society for the greatness.

If you want to verify information, you need to cite some professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are about the subject.

To add content to an article in which you have a WP:COI, you just need to post a request on the article's corresponding Talk page detailing what you'd like added using the instructions described here: Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. If I am understanding Frankdoherty correctly, I think they may mean adding and filling another parameter in the infobox at their church's article, presumably this one given their edits. Now I know this question may be a waste of time to ask and answer, but it’s something I really want closure on, and I don’t know where else to ask it, so here we go. A few days ago, I left this message on Beeblebrox’s talk page, titled “A confession I must make”. and while he deleted it after reading it, it went like this:

I created this account in April 2014 and made myself a part of WikiProject Professional wrestling, and as you can see, despite a few controversial statements I made that made a mountain out of a molehill, I have had a pretty good track record here on Wikipedia. When that year came, I felt that I had matured and met WP:CIR and I was about to demonstrate, when you decided that everything above was enough of a reason to revoke talk page access without letting me have my chance I was promised a year ago. While I am not upset now, as I don't hold grudges, I was mad at the time and decided to block evade, even though that didn't help my case. Eventually, in April 2014, I decided to start fresh with my current account. I had been living under this shadow for 4 and a half years, and I felt it was finally time to come clean. I am sorry for my incompetency when I was a little boy, and I am almost an adult now. I've spent 4 years evading under a new alias and I've shown that I am a good Wikipedian that way. I had to play dirty to do it, but I proved it. I'm sorry I resorted to those tactics, but I just felt it was unfair that I wasn't given that opportunity I was promised a year ago. I am not mad at you over it, that's in the past, but I at the time felt it was unfair for me. I'm admitting this because I wanted to come clean to you about it, and so that it's not hanging on me any longer. I wanted to be the bigger man and hold on to my honor and be honest. Will I be amnestied for my wrongdoings of the past and we move on, or will I be idef'd for breaking the blocking policy big time long ago? Sorry, Robertoc3334, but Wikipedia policy prohibits the creation of pages for exposure. Unless you've already been in the news, there's no way to write an article about you sourced to reliable sources. Have you considered starting a blog or writing an autobiography? Hi Robertoc3334. The short answer is that Wikipedia is not a website like Facebook or LinkedIn, etc. where you create an account to tell others all about yourself. Wikipedia articles are really only written about subject deemed to be Wikpedia notable and Wikipedia article content is only intended to really relfect what reliable sources (preferably secondary and independent) say about a subject, not what a subject says about itself. So, take a look a Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything, Wikipedia:Notability (people), and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing for some more information. If you're someone who is considered to be Wikipedia notable enough to have an article written about him, then perhaps someday someone will do just that. I've submitted an article(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Expertscape) for review but would appreciate any advice or edits that would help the article. As one of the founders of the website, I have a conflict of interest and so am hopeful that others can adopt the article. We get frequent requests from hospitals, medical schools, and medical experts to have a Wikipedia entry that they can reference. Any guidance or edits would be appreciated. Iamdjmicky Please read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Note the bit that says "strongly discouraged". That means, you should not write about yourself. If you do, expect to find your article nominated for deletion unless you can provide serveral reliable sources that write about you in-depth. Hint: Facebook is not a reliable source. Hello, Iamdjmicky. I fear you are making the common mistake of supposing that Wikipedia has anything at all to do with your online presence or telling the world about yourself. It doesn't. If Wikipedia ever has an article about you it should be based almost 100% on what people who have no connection with you have chosen to publish about you - and if such sources do not exist, there cannot be an article about you, whoever writes it and however they do so. If there is an article about you, it will not belong to you, you willl have no control over it, and it should contain almost no information that comes from you or your associates. Not reliably, Iamdjmicky, and not at all unless you can be shown to be notable (in Wikipedia's special sense). If you do the legwork of finding suitable sources (see IRS) that might make it more attractive to somebody, but in the end everybody who edits here is a volunteer, and we all work on what we choose. Somebody will pick up your request only if something about it catches their interest; if they do so, it will not be for you: it will be for Wikipedia. @David Clemens: to switch between visual editor and source code editor (and vice versa) just look for the little black pencil icon on the upper right hand side of the editing tools window. Click that, and you can switch back and forth between visual editor and wiki source code editor. You can also choose, as DavidB says, how your editing preferences are remembered in future between sessions. Just go to Preferences and select the option that best suits your needs. David Biddulph - if you're already in the visual editor, the black pencil button will show up in the top right corner of the page right next to the "publish changes" button. If you're already in the source editor, it will show up on the top right of the whole editing interface, on the right side of the toolbar. I prefer templates for now. I have no idea what type of stuff I should put on my user page so it's easier just copying a template to give me an idea. I already had the userboxes page bookmarked as I'm going to be adding userboxes for my interests and the type of stuff I edit the most, once I've got my userpage looking decent. I haven't created any normal Wikipedia pages yet, so when I do eventually create one, I'll be copying a template for that too until I can remember how to do it myself. All I know how to do so far on Wikipedia is how to copy and edit stuff that's already there. Things like adding new nav boxes, adding colours, changing text size etc I don't have a clue about. A Good Article is an article that has gone through a very thorough review process and meets a number of specific quality criteria. You can read more about it here. Want to reinstate changes for accuracy that someone else has removed

Hello, I'm registered as an editor, but am not great at it. I made some changes to the page for "Gary Stretch" (boxer) as I believe - because multiple sources say so - that the year of his birth is wrong - should be 1968 not 1965, and (possibly) the month and day might be wrong (11th April, rather than 4th November). However, another user (Jessicapierce) has removed my changes, citing that they were not properly sourced. I'd be very grateful if someone who is a skilled editor could look into this and - in the interests of accuracy - make the required changes. Thanks! There were two problems with your edit. Firstly the information added was unsourced, and secondly tou were including commentary in the article text. Hi Danstarr69. Click edit to see code for your wishes. I used info-a from Template:Userbox#Usage for centering. The rest is general wikitext/html formatting code and not specific to userboxes so it isn't documented there. See Help:Wikitext. I added a line break with <br />before "City of Bradford". Yellow text on orange background is hard to read so don't use it in the final version. Note that <span style="font-size:120%; color:yellow;">[[City of Bradford]]</span> would not change link color. It produces City of Bradford. Changing link color requires a piped link with color inside the link code. I waited around an hour for a reply, now I've got around 4 at once, while I was busy messing up my template even further trying to figure out how to get 'City of Bradford' on the next line. I wasn't going to be using Yellow on that Orange background, that was just temporary. It's going to be a Blue background (probably the 069 colour), with the FC0 colour writing. @Danstarr69: An hour is far too little to wait, and asking in three places is two too many. Other users waste time answering the same question. If you do want to try another venue then wait for days and include a link to the original question so people can see whether it has already been answered when they want to answer. (edit conflict) There are two text colors. I don't know which (or both?) you want to be #FC0 but whatever you want, simply write it instead of the existing color in that location. Hello, Pollycle. I'm a little concerned at your use of the phrase "set up". I may be misinterpreting, but that phrase suggests to me that you think that Wikipedia is like LinkedIn, or social media. What we do is not "set up" pages, but write articles. They are not for the subject (or against them): they are about the subject, and should be based almost entirely on material published by people unconnected with the subject. If your question is about the draft in your sandbox about Thomas Henry Haines, then neither the whole nor parts thereof are suitable for a Wikipedia biography. The draft has no references. Be aware that the subject's autobiography cannot serve as a reference. Strongly suggest you look at several biographies of living people who are academics, to get the drift. Writing article based on a book by recognized authors

I am attempting to publish wiki articles about the Indian revolutionaries.

Following are the challenges that I am facing:

1. Except the well-known(who received at least some limelight) revolutionaries, it is almost impossible to find online sources, Google book search etc. about the countless other revolutionaries.
2. Due to privacy laws e.g: in Europe, the already scanty source links do not show up in the web search.
3. I have read several books by renowned/recognized authors or the lesser-known revolutionaries themselves, these books provide, at least, some information about the now-unknown revolutionaries. The challenge is that such a book is the singular source and no other web references can be 'cited'.

While in the 'References' section, I quoted the ISBN of the book, the author and publication name and the page numbers which provide info. about the revolutionary, my recent article got rejected due to 'lack of citations'. Agreed but that's the only source I have. As I mentioned, there are/were already less no. of books on this subject and now most of them are out of print. The author of the book(Srikrishan Saral) was an Indian who dedicated his life to write about the Indian revolutionaries.

• @Scribblingdeeds: Sources need not be online, or even easily available, what matters (here) is that they support notability of the subject. You can cite multiple books, even if they are obscure/out-of-print/etc., as long as they went through a reputable editorial process (in particular not a vanity press).

On the other hand, if you cannot find sources due to various issues (search results not popping up etc.), you might have some luck asking at the Resource Exchange (the more precise your request, the best chance you stand). Hello September 1988, requests for rollback are handled at WP:PERM/R, where an administrator will choose to either grant or reject your request. Not sure if we can just move this there or not, but god luck with your application. New Editor looking to get feet wet.

First off, thanks to HostBot for inviting me here. I appreciate the sense of community already. I've perused the guidelines and principles pages, explored some of the best practices and essays, and generally been enjoying myself. I'm finding a bit more confidence after my first couple edits the other bot recommended.

Which bring me to my question, which is: for newer editors, is there a link depository or some such of easier, less critical tasks that we can proverbially 'get our feet wet' with?

I've seen references to mentoring, and different styles of editorial focus (AfD, anti-vandalism, etc.) so maybe if there was another internal page that explained getting involved with some of those?

The reason you weren't able to edit it was because it is semi-protected due to spam (though it's been 10 years, we may should try lifting the protection level again), so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it. In the future, if you need to make an edit to a page but it's protected, you can click "view source" and then "Submit an edit request," which will allow you to make an edit request on the talk page. Any user who has permission to edit the page can review the edit request and either decline it or accept it. Also, once you've had an account for 4 days and made 10 edits, you should be able to edit almost all mainspace pages on Wikipedia. Yes, they are allowed if they have a suitable licence (not all Creative Commons licences will do: the non-commercial ones are not acceptable) but they still have to be uploaded to Commons. Question on recent draft submission - Win This Record

I have a question about a recent article draft I did for David Lindley/El Ray-o X's second album "Win This Record". It was rejected due to insufficient coverage. I compared it to the article for the group's first album and it has similar source citation (both in number and source itself - All Music), yet that article was published. Also, the first paragraph is a bit more developed for WTR than for the first album. I'd like to know the "why" behind the apparent inconsistency so I may improve my understanding of the process and do a better job in the future. Thanks for any response on this matter. Hello and welcome, THX1136. Because there is no enforced hierarchy on WP, and articles are generated by anyone and everyone without the need for any qualifications other than the ability to turn on a computer, you will see substantial inconsistency. WP's general guidance of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS suggests that, because a policy non-compliant article may exist somewhere, is not precedent for more policy non-compliant articles to subsequently be introduced.

In terms of negative enforcement, problematic articles can be either fixed or tagged for deletion, however, since there are more than five million articles on WP this is an imperfect process and it is very possible to find articles of inferior quality. In terms of positive enforcement, the FA and GA articles are those which have undergone a minimal level of vetting and review and these are usually better samples off of which to model a new article. Redirect issue

I am a wikipedian who edits in malayalam wikipedia. There were 2 existing templates namely ml:ഫലകം:Requested move and ml:ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക. I recently deleted all the contents of the template ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക and I redirected that template to ഫലകം:Requested move. But currently, in the pages that were linked to ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക is showing the message REDIRECT ഫലകം:Requested move and not the contents of the template ഫലകം:Requested move. (Example page: ml:നഗരം.) Hi Adithyak1997. If you question is related to a problem you're having on Malayalam Wikipedia, then you'd probably be better off asking about it there. The Teahouse deals pretty much only with questions related to editing on English Wikipedia, so I'm not sure how much help you'll find here. Your question also seems a bit technical in nature. A Teahouse host might be able to help, but you might also try WP:VP/T or maybe even Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Templates. Denver NeVaar, MTS and am wondering about the creation of an article within Wikipedia containing objective factual information about myself, my accomplishments, and my work, with only the intention to inform those unfamiliar with me, who might otherwise find my perhaps original approach to creativity and spirituality confusing. I have been a public access television personality since November of 1992 (446 individual productions have been recorded thus far), climbed to the summits of sixteen mountains reaching above fourteen thousand feet elevation within the state of Colorado within the United States, recorded four albums of original songs, and maintained a monthly newsletter of substantive intellectual thought on issues of life and/or spirituality since the beginning of 1998. In order to inform the general public about what Sister Who is and what Sister Who is not, a Wikipedia article seems recommendable, in order to make any personal encounter within perhaps unexpected public spaces, a non-threatening experience--especially because Sister Who has, in fact, appeared within so many diverse urban and rural places throughout the last twenty-seven years (Paris, Sydney, Amsterdam, New York, and San Francisco; Colorado, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, California, Washington, Montana, and the District of Columbia; and on the Internet through YouTube.com/DenverNeVaar and SisterWho.com). Evidence of being noticed has come in the form of a number of newspaper articles; an extensive archive of information within the Western History Department of the Denver Public Library of Denver, Colorado; and fan email from Norway, Italy, Poland, Japan, the UK, and Indonesia. Hello, Denver NeVaar, and welcome to the Teahouse. "[T]o inform those unfamiliar with " a subject, is another way of saying "Promotion", and is explicitly not what Wikipedia is for. Wikipedia is only interested in subjects which have already been written about, at some depth, by people unconnected with the subject: the Wikipedia jargon for this is that the subject is notable. From your description, it is possible that you do meet the criteria - the newspaper articles may contribute to that, but fan mail will not (as unpublished) and nor will the archive, unless there is independently published material about it.

Thank you for not attempting to write the article yourself, as this is strongly discouraged. Unfortunately there is no reliable way of finding somebody to write an article about you (it will not be an article for you), since this is a volunteer project, and people work on what interests them. The formal place for requesting an article be written is at requested articles; but in honesty, the take-up rate is low there. Another approach is to find a suitable WikiProject, and ask for a collaborator there. Perhaps WT:WikiProject Spirituality, or WT:WikiProject Autism? In either case, you will make your request more attractive if you do some of the legwork; rather than just asserting that there are newspaper articles about you, read IRS and V and actually cite some specific sources.

Be aware that if an article is written, you will have no control whatever over its content: that will be determined by a consensus of uninvolved editors, according to what information is available in independent reliable published sources. --ColinFine (talk) 12:32, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

I have a problem uploading the figure to my article. I do not own the figure, but I requested permission with the publishing journal, which I received. I tried uploading the figure to the wikimedia commons page, however I have no idea which copyright template I would need to use. It depends on what permissions have been given. If you have been given permission to use it on a Wikipedia article, then it can not be uploaded to Commons at all. If they have put a free license on it then you would use the free license they have placed on the figure and expect to be asked to prove they have done it. Depending on the figure it might be eligible for fair use but then it would need to be uploaded here rather than at Commons. ~ GB fan 12:20, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jjochum87: If I might clarify, if their permission statement is limited to use on Wikipedia then it cannot be uploaded to Commons. I'll go further, I don't see any value in a permission statement that permits use on Wikipedia only. Page rejected for not being notable

The page in question is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Chris_Fussell_(US_Navy_SEAL)

Chris is notable for several reasons. He is a former Navy SEAL who was part of SEAL team 6 (who captured Osama Bin Laden) and who is highly sought after to frequently speak to large association and corporate audiences. He is also the author of two books, one a best-seller. He helped create a program, Operations and Intelligence, which revolutionized communication in the Navy. Lastly, there are 9 reputable sources for him; all which should prove he is notable.

If this still doesn't justify, can someone please help edit it/help add more citations so that it reads to be notable?

@PennyLS61917: It might be because when you search "Chris Fussell US Navy Seal Osama Bin Laden", no articles about Fussell himself come up. He was a part of a notable team, but it's not like he did a lot of work in the capture that any other seal could've done (he didn't shoot him). All searches that do come up are just passing mentions which don't qualify towards notability on Wikipedia. This article only gives a quote from him. There are notability guidelines on Wikipedia, the most widely recognized being WP:GNG. It states that "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." Fussell doesn't have that coverage. Redditaddict69 15:08, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

As for hidden categories, these are tracking categories used to classify pages for the kind of work that is needed to be done on them. @PennyLS61917: If seeing loads of 'hidden categories' at the bottom of every article is irritating to you, you can easily stop them showing by changing your 'Preferences' - just go to the 'Appearance' tab and scroll down to 'advanced options' and un-tick the 'Show hidden categories' box. Find it at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. It's right next to the 'Auto-number headings' tick box - which, as a complete aside, is a wonderful way of getting numbers added to article subheadings so that they match the Table of Contents). I would reread the notability guideline on biographies as well as our reliable source guideline. Wikipedia uses the words "notable" and "reliable sources" in a very specific way. I would not call any of the sources provided in your article reliable sources, #1-5 and #9 are just biography pages (presumably the information was provided by Chris himself, so not independent), #6 is an interview so it is not independent, and #7-8 just prove that the books that he wrote exist. What the article needs are multiple, in-depth, independent sources. If those do not exist, then a person is not notable, no matter how famous he is. shoy (reactions) 17:14, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

How to clean up a category

Hi! I was looking through Category:Featured articles needing translation from Chinese Wikipedia. This is a hidden category containing articles that have featured status on the Chinese Wikipedia. This is nifty because now we know we have a high quality article in Chinese that can be translated into English.

However, I noticed that a lot of these articles have had their featured status removed long ago. Then I looked into other subcategories of Category:Featured articles needing translation from foreign-language Wikipedias and found similar problems. For example, Nationalist Party of Castile and León is in the category Category:Featured articles needing translation from Spanish Wikipedia, even though the corresponding article in Spanish appears to have never been featured.

My question is this. Fixing these categories looks like a problem worth addressing that I would be interested in working on. Editing it by hand seems like a lot of nasty work, but a bot could probably do it quickly by verifying that the corresponding article is indeed featured. However, my only experience editing Wikipedia is the occasional minor edit. I have programming experience, but I am aware of WP:BOTNOTNOW. Would this be a good question for Wikipedia:Bot requests? Controversial subject (for some) Communion and Liberation (again!)

Hi everyone, last month I have been involved in a long edit war involving the aformentioned page, which ended in the ban of the other user. This month I had some vacations and, honestly, it wasn't nice as a first experience to be involved in an edit war, so I didn't open my account much.

A new user registered the 9th of August Lawtheagoraphobic (at least that's when he created the wiki page ) and has since then changed the page almost back to what it was before I tried to change things.

I'm inclined to believe it's the same user, as the very same information has been restored, including the same mistakes (on the short initial log the foundation date is correct, but then on the history it cites 1969, which is the same wrong year I saw in the old versions). He also removed the only change I did (added the disputed tag), accusing me of being a one shot user (while in the talk page I referred to the fact that many of the observations that are now in the archive are valid for the "new" version).

How does wiki cope with this? I know there are some controversial subject and it is messy...but in this case there's someone (or more than one) who simply hates Communion and Liberation and shall spend all the time of its life reverting changes. Is it possible to ask for a "perpetual" disputed/controversial tag? I simply don't have the time to fight with every new account opened by this guy... GioA90 (talk) 16:53, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

I am even more inclined now that I find many articles are the same, even this one https://www.ilgazzettino.it/nordest/padova/comunione_liberazione_padova_condanna_truffa_dieffe-345586.html which is old (it talks about a trial where people were initially found guilty but the final verdict discharged everyone) and in the talk page I posted and argued about this. Wine AOC is now AOP

I just returned from France where those in the industry are all referring to their wines as being AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protégée) and no longer AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée). This applies to cheeses and some other foods as well. This would require some work among the Wikipedia members to update this, but it probably should be done.

Translating an existing Wikipedia article

Hello,

The Arabic Wikipedia site has a page on a children's ensemble and I'd like to translate it to English.

I'm wondering if such an article would be accepted by the encyclopedia.

Hello, Sumoorah. Provided the subject meets English Wikipedia's criteria for notability, you are welcome to translate it: see Translation. But you should not assume that just because it exists in another Wikipedia it is automatically acceptable. References in Arabic are acceptable if there are not good ones in English, but they must be reliable sources. --ColinFine (talk) 18:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Argh how do I Wikipedia

I am altogether confused at whether this is ANI-worthy or not, or where else to take it if not, so I'm leaving this diff here. Hello and welcome, An Owl Called Josh. Based on the IP editor's history of using racial epithets (e.g. [4], [5], [6], etc.) I'd say this is a case of WP:NOTHERE. However, their contributions are very spartan (averaging two per month over the last couple years) so taking it to ANI might be more time and trouble for you than it's really worth. • @An Owl Called Josh: Even though the report is stale, I've blocked the IP and WP:REVDELed the post anyway. It's a static IP, and this bit of stupidity (why the number came up purple instead of blue for me) is a sign that there is a consistent user there who would be blocked indefinitely if they were using an account.
