How to create own page on Wikipedia

Dear friend User can create own Wikipedia page. If he is politician or in other profession popular. Rambabuyadavnp1 (talk) 03:08, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rambabuyadavnp1: Go through WP:COI and WP:POLITICIAN please. Also see the general guidelines at WP:NOTABILITY, WP:SPIP. Typically a politician who has held international, national, or sub-national office is notable. Secondly, a local politician who has received significant media coverage is also notable. And obviously reliable sources are a must as per WP:V. Regards - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:19, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding edits to Yakshagana

Yakshagana already has a section listing overseas performances from some of the troupes. Since only one troupe performs out of country every year, this section might have been created. Hey, I'm New on Wikipedia, so I had no idea on the link policy, just read the guidelines and I'm sorry for that!

Just need you to make an edit to the article where the taxi part is mentioned, motorcycles rentals/cycle rental is a new booming thing for travelers and tourists and it would be helpful for people to know about it too. you can verify it online(google) about the various firms offering such services.

again sorry to violate the policy of Wikipedia.

Divisions of Haryana

Dear Fylindfotberserk,

Yesterday, I added a large amount of text to Divisions of Haryana, that was my first cut of the "stub significantly enlarged into a consolidated article" which I intended to further refine over next few days. Before I could undertake subsequent changes, I am glad the article got attention from you. You reverted some of my changes here, I do acknowledge your concerns as valid. I was already aware of these, and was already working on bridge the citation gap soon in the subsequent iterations. I created a discussion point on the article talkpage here, please respond there directly so that we can include other editors in the discussion.

Thanks again. Regards. 222.164.212.168 (talk) 06:22, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:DATEFORMAT

Regarding your change on P. V. Sindhu, MOS:DATEFORMAT only applies to body text. ISO dates are always allowed, as they're agnostic to DMY vs. MDY, and they're numerical only. Furthermore, when used in references, they get formatted correctly based on the article's established date format, so they're even preferred in that sense. Getsnoopy (talk) 18:35, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No, only "Quotations and Titles" are exempt from MOS:DATE. For references we can use any style, check WP:CITESTYLE which says "Although nearly any consistent style may be used, avoid all-numeric date formats other than YYYY-MM-DD". While exception is made for YYYY-MM-DD (which is numerical), they are not preferred. And it would still be ambiguous for some editors in the edit mode who doesn't know what YYYY-MM-DD is. For example, 2019-05-04 might mean 4th May or 5th April. Secondly, most users follow DMY or MDY based on the format used by the subject's country, in both the text and references. Not to mention, it is better to maintain parity, in the article, since only a small number of refs would be in YYYY-MM-DD. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:40, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: "They are not preferred"—Do you have any evidence to back up this claim? ISO formats are universal on WP (let alone the world). You'd have to show me evidence that there are editors who are editing articles who aren't familiar with it. YDM is practically non-existent (not to mention explicitly forbidden in MoS), which is one of the main reasons ISO 8601 was created in the first place; using YDM as a potential point of confusion is not a convincing argument. Getsnoopy (talk) 17:29, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Read WP:CITESTYLE properly. Nowhere it is written that YYYY-MM-DD is the "preferred" MOS:DATE style. It is merely an acceptable format of numericals, other types of which are not allowed. As for most editors (IPs included), they just copy-paste whatever is there in the references. Indian news agencies mostly use MDY and that too the abbreviated one e.g. "Jan 26, 2018" here. Other formats are also used widely and ends up in the article as such. It is always better to maintain a parity. Besides, when updating using script, DMY and MDY are available only. And since Indian articles use DMY, you shouldn't be worried. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:38, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did read it properly, and I never claimed that YMD is the preferred format according to MoS. It seems like you were claiming that they weren't preferred, so I wanted you to back up the claim. I said that it's easier to use as a practical point since it's agnostic of what the article's established date format is, and it will be dynamically formatted properly. And I'm not "worried", I'm merely pointing out the fact that you cited WP:DATEFORMAT in the article's change, but changed a reference date style (which the policy doesn't apply to) from one that was valid to begin with, so I wanted to make sure you were aware that it is indeed valid. I agree consistency is good, but I just wanted to raise the point about the benefits of using the YMD style. Getsnoopy (talk) 02:38, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Check WP:MOSDATE again, the policy is only exempt from Quotations and Titles. it specifically writes -

  • These requirements do not apply to dates in quotations or titles.

Check MOS:DATEUNIFY. See the bold phrases in the excerpt below -

Publication dates in an article's citations should all use the same format, which may be:

  • the format used in the article body text,
  • the format expected in the citation style being used (however, all-numeric date formats other than yyyy-mm-dd must still be avoided).
For example, publication dates within a single article might be in one, but only one, of these formats (among others):
Jones, J. (20 September 2008)
Jones, J. (September 20, 2008)

Check WP:CITESTYLE -

  • Although nearly any consistent style may be used, avoid all-numeric date formats other than YYYY-MM-DD - Which I've explained above.

So no need to make an issue of something trivial. As I said, it is better to maintain parity. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:09, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

HDI tag on Mumbai / Other Metropolitan cities

Thank You for the edit on Mumbai. As I am a beginner on Wikipedia, having used it only as reference since my childhood, I would like to know why couldn't I not add the HDI tag at first, after countless tries, and what did you do to make it appear? Thanking you! RB — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riddhidev BISWAS (talkcontribs) 14:32, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Riddhidev BISWAS Thanks for communicating. Firstly, sign your comments by adding '4 ~' at the end. The parameter will not show up because it is invalid. Check Template:Infobox settlement which is the infobox type in that article, there is nothing called "HDI" there. So we have to use a "blank parameter", which I've done. Read the template thoroughly, you'll know. Ask if you need help. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:37, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk Thanks for explaining. I went through the article but didn't find how to use said black parameter would you please explain to me how it's done? Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 15:09, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Riddhidev BISWAS My apologies LOL. Wrote black instead of "blank". Those parms are named "blank_name_sec1", etc. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the HDI parameter to Kolkata using your instructions and I guess it worked. The attached article is a bit old (2004) but the HDI was measured using UN norms, so I'll give them that! Would you please check it out and see if it's okay?

Good morning Fylindfotberserk, I wanted to ask you how I could edit the Chennai Page as 1) it still shows wrongfully that it is a megacity, while it is a global agglomeration of 10 million + ( like kolkata and not the city itself) and 2) I would like to put the HDI parameter for Chennai too which is lacking. Seems this cannot be modified as it is heavily secured against possible vandalism. Thanks again! Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 05:10, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Riddhidev BISWAS, The Chennai article is extended protected. You can do one of the 2 things. First method, make an Edit request at Talk:Chennai, that you want HDI figures to be added in the infobox and also provide reliable sources in support of this. Your request should be of the format "Please include HDI in the infobox which is X as per this XYZ reliable source". Second method, wait till you get to 500 edits, which will automatically grant you extended confirmed user status. Then you add the content yourself. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:27, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah Thanks mate Fylindfotberserk I'll try both. In the meanwhile I'll see if I can get back my infobox page which I had accidentally changed to a general page, which now has been deleted.. Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 13:55, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit on Luka Chuppi

Regarding your revert of my changes on Luka Chuppi: I appreciate that there's a discussion on Talk:Tiger Zinda Hai, but the issue is pretty much a dead horse at this point. If you check WP:ICTF, even the main page lists million/billion as the unit in its only example of gross revenues. Its talk page has brought this issue up multiple times, with either no preference either way or with conversions, which aren't allowed in Infoboxes. Again, while there is some sort of opinion against currency conversions, there's no strong opinion on crore/lakh vs. million/billion, and so WP:COMMONALITY would dictate that more common terms should win. While I'm happy to keep discussing the issue on the Tiger Zinda Hai talk page, it doesn't preclude my changes; please stop reverting my changes regarding this issue. the film genre gangster drama two sources stating same https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/tamil/vijay-vijay-sethupathi-thalapathy-64-shooting-begins-6050923/ https://www.deccanchronicle.com/entertainment/kollywood/031019/tamil-star-vijay-sethupathi-kicks-off-thalapathy-64-with-puja-ceremo.html

The film stars Vijay with Vijay sethupathi and Malavika mohanan in other prominent roles -mention this sentence in the lead

since hero Vijay, villain Vijay sethupathi and heroine malavika mohanan these three mentions are enough in the lead paragragh

Bigil article lead section expansion

As a result of the film's success, Aspired Indian women due to this film have considered taking up football as their career sport.- add this sentence source below https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tamil/movies/news/vijays-bigil-encourages-a-rise-in-female-football-players/articleshow/71886998.cms Giskonn (talk) 08:55, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Despite being a Tamil language release, the film has performed well in Mumbai. source below I saw this sentence added by you previously in the article but it was removed. pls re-add https://www.zeebiz.com/india/news-bigil-box-office-collection-blockbuster-thalapathy-vijay-film-tickets-sold-out-in-mumbai-113343 Giskonn (talk) 09:56, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Giskonn Now I see it [3]. I'd have warned this person for deleting sourced stuff without explanation. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:07, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
On closer inspection, it doesn't say whatever was written that time. I mean the comparison. It only mention that it sold very well in Mumbai. Let me think of a way to add into the article. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:10, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is no other tamil film without hindi dub has done well in mumbai city so its notable. Giskonn (talk) 10:14, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah but that's not written explicitly, so a sentence like "Despite being Tamil, it performed well in Mumbai" will make it an original research. All we know that till the day of reporting, Mumbai multiplex chains had sold out crowds. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:18, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hope these two sources help- https://in.bookmyshow.com/mumbai/movies/bigil/ET00105457 https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/tamil/bigil-box-office-performance-100-crore-vijay-atlee-6091846/ Giskonn (talk) 10:29, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Tlo1NxtrAE Giskonn (talk) 15:06, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Giskonn, I should have explained that clearly. While the channel is verified, the parent site itself is not reliable. Note that sites like FilmiBeat, Cinestaan, PinkVilla, etc have "verified" YouTube channels, but the sites themselves are not considered reliable as per WP:ICTF. Times of India, Bollywood Hungama, Youtube channels on the other hand can be used. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:16, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hindustan times says the film is eyeing for 300 crore. can we mention 270-300 crore estimate for time being using below source. https://www.hindustantimes.com/regional-movies/bigil-box-office-day-11-vijay-s-film-dethrones-rajinikanth-s-petta-enters-rs-250-cr-club-worldwide/story-aJuISNSdaDDO5zkgfTqc0O.html Giskonn (talk) 15:40, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding you reverting my edit on the Faizabad District page

Update: Ah shucks, I just saw that you looked at the ref yourself and made the necessary corrections. So, all good! Hey there! So Faizabad District consists of two cities, Faizabad and Ayodhya. Faizabad city used to be the administrative headquarters of the district - but it no longer is[1]. All my edit did was to make the change reflect in the article and the infobox. That's it. I don't think this violates WP:COMMONNAME.

(edit conflict) @Theintuitus: My apologies. I thought it is another POV pushing. You know it always happens in these articles. I've restored it to your version, with some fixes. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:28, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Singhtejass, BehindWoods is not relible. As for the reliable Tamil source, "பிகில் வசூல் ரூ. 300 கோடி" translates to "Pickle Collection Rs. 300 crores" in google translate. I'm confused. Besides, collects 300 crores can include other incomes like satellite rights, etc. We need a source whihc says that the "Worldwide gross is 300 crores". Can't you get to a reliable English source? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:58, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hard work

The Barnstar of Diligence
Fylindfotberserk, you have one of the weirdest usernames. I'm still never sure how to pronounce it even though you provide instructions on your user page. I don't normally give barnstars, not because I don't appreciate people's efforts, but because most of the people I encounter are either long-time editors who don't really care about collecting barnstars, or casual editors and vandals who have no longevity here. You have been doing an amazing job monitoring tons of Indian entertainment articles, you have demonstrated a strong desire to learn and to adhere to community guidelines, and you are both diligent and dedicated. That is awesome, and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your hard work! Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:18, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyphoidbomb: You made my day sir. Your mentoring has a lot to do with what I'm today in Wikipedia. My name is supposed to be pronounced just like the word Fylfot, with IND in between . This username was intended as a protest against random euro-centrists and supremacist that used to plague genetics and Indian history related articles and respective talk pages like R1a in late 2000s and early 2010s. Kept it subtle by not using the (in)famous term Swastika. And berserk because I'm interested in Norse myths since 8th standard. That's after Greek myths which I started to like after reading encyclopedias and watching films like Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, Hercules (Steeve Reeves's one), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (for the Centaur), etc as a kid. I'm a big fan of Ray Harryhausen's work.
Thank you very much sir. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:54, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, it makes more sense to me now! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:54, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions

What's centre-right socialism exactly?
Did you just take a wild guess about your ethnicity or did you get a 23andMe or equivalent test done? If the latter - more info about the test because I'd love to know my ethnicity and genetic makeup as well.

If national socialism is too right, centre-right would be cloder to the centre . No wild guesses, I'm an Indo-Aryan speaker and Brahmin so. I've some distant Indo-Scythian like ancestry too. I didn't get my DNA checked. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:28, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Madhyamgram

I never said that You ( Fylindfotberserk) check Kolkata Metropolitan Area. I know that some Metropolitan area city is not Kolkata. Why you not check Kolkata Pincode area details. There is mention that All Kolkata Pincode or Zipcode (700001 to 700162) area City Kolkata.

◇◇ Why You ( Fylindfotberserk) are not check Kolkata Zip code or area Pincode details??. The Kolkata Zipcode area is start 700001 and end to 700162. And All Kolkata zipcode Area City is Kolkata. And that's point Madhyamgram also belongs to Kolkata zipcode area. And that's reason Madhyamgram obviously city is Kolkata. You check it. AmitMondal1299 (talk) 16:17, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AmitMondal1299: The Madhyamgram article clearly mentions that it is under "Kolkata Metropolitan Area" and is covered by "Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA)". But the census India considers it as a separate census town. This is what should be added. Example, Jalpaiguri article doesn't say it is a neighbourhood of Siliguri, but both are part of the same UA. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:21, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why you only check KMDA AmitMondal1299 (talk) 16:28, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why you only Check out Kolkata Metropolitan Area . All Kolkata Metropolitan Area City is not Kolkata all people know that. Only All Kolkata Zipcode Area or Pincode (700001 to 700162) area city is only Kolkata AmitMondal1299 (talk) 16:30, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pincode is not a source. Census.go.in is - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:40, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All Kolkata Metropolitan Area is not Belongs to Kolkata Zipcode Area. And that's reason All Kolkata Metropolitan area city is not Kolkata All people here know about that.Only All Kolkata Zipcode Area or Pincode (700001 to 700162) area city is only Kolkata. I several times said you that. You learn about Kolkata Metropolitan Area vs Kolkata Zipcode or Kolkata Pincode(700001 to 700162) area. Only Kolkata Pincode (700001 to 700162) area City is Kolkata. Don't Malign India and its respectable organisations

Why is the data against Hindus and India it looks like there is a malicious intent by reference to anti hindu books! There are positive books and when ever I tried other editors undo them. Please be fair because partiality always has a consequence. I found RSS page is locked fearing Vandalism. Is it that or resistance to malign an organisation? Don't slander Wikipedia will be the loser in the end as its image becomes tainted. Ajganguly (talk) 07:34, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ajganguly: I do not remember reverting your edit. Secondly, you can't delete long standing reliably sourced content all of a sudden without discussing in the talk page. That's disruptive. Not to mention the other IP that's been adding content that already mentioned in the article. These are the reasons why the article got locked. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:28, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: I never said you reverted the edits! Blaming me for editing is not helpful? Did I lock the page? I made an edit and that is what Wikipedia is exactly for!

My point is Wikipedia is a great resource for us and it should not be misused for negative propaganda. A long standing misinformation doesn't become fact due to time. If I don't have time for the next two months because I am in a project in Irvine, does it mean that the wrong information someone edits in becomes right due to passage of time. Please be sensible and do justice such that wrong information gets corrected for the greater good. Lets talk... First look at my edits and let me know where I am wrong and lets work ahead. Ajganguly (talk) 12:06, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The RSS's admiration of Hitler and Mussolini's fascist government is sourced in the article. As per WP:STATUS QUO, you cannot remove it outright. You have to discuss your issues. And kindly, don't do it in my talkpage. Doug Weller already left a little bit of instruction in your talkpage. Let the discussion happen in the RSS talkpage. And don't be in a hurry. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:10, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Madhyamgram

And also Madhyamgram all official documents School, College and aldo shop and others use Kolkata Name before Pincode. Because It ia town in Kolkata. Madhyamgram obviously Kolkata Main Pincode Area and they official used city name Kolkata. And other Kolkata Metropolitan area which are not Belongs to Kolkata Pincode area they can not use Kolkata Name on Official. You check it Also. Huge Kolkata major area district different even Saltlake,Rajarhat district is different but this not a point All 700001 to 700162 area Kolkata Pincode area and that area city is Kolkata. You check it. They Use Kolkata before Pincode because this Kolkata are. Other Kolkata Metropolitan area which is not Belongs to Kolkata Pincode (700001 to 700162) area they can not use Kolkata before Pincode. You check it What is different. Huge Kolkata major area district is different even Saltlake,Rajarhat, Sector 5, Newtown, and also many major Kolkata area district is different but it is Belongs to Kolkata Pincode (700001 to 700162).that reason their city called Kolkata. Can You ( Fylindfotberserk) notice it?? AmitMondal1299 (talk) 12:35, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AmitMondal1299:Madhyamgram falls under Kolkata metropolitan area like many other cities and municipalities within that metro area but is also a separate entity as per census. Consider a similar case with Thane which is part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region but is also a separate city. Thane pincodes also start with 400 just like Mumbai. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:16, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can not understand of Kolkata Area details. I am very well know which you talking. I live in Saltlake, Kolkata:64. Madhyamgram is not a region of Kolkata it part of North Kolkata. Madhyamgram Pincode is 130 which is Belongs to Kolkata Pincode area. Why you can not notice this. Kolkata Metropolitan Area which are not Belongs to Kolkata Pincode (700001 to 700162) area they are part of only region of Kolkata. But 70001 to 700162 is the main area of Kolkata. Some major Kolkata area like Saltlake,Newtown,Rajarhat, and other Kolkata major main area has different district but this is not matter. Madhyamgram obviously part of Kolkata called North Kolkata area.Kolkata Metropolitan Area which are not Belongs to Kolkata Pincode (700001 to 700162) area they are part of only region of Kolkata, like location of Uttarpara is part of Kolkata Metropolitan Area but Uttarpara is not Belongs to Kolkata Area (700001 to 700162) because Uttarpara Pincode is 712258. So it region of Kolkata. So it clear that Madhyamgram Pincode 700130 Belongs to Kolkata Major area. it is Obviously major are of Kolkata called North Kolkata. AmitMondal1299 (talk) 13:24, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AmitMondal1299: As I said, you have to provide source. The 2011 Indian census calls it a separate township, so we have city in the lead. I've changed the infobox as per your suggestions and as per other Kolkata metropolitan area articles here. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:09, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If Madhyamgram separate Township then its Pincode never start 7000 like Uttarpara which Pincode is 71225 and it is under Kolkata Metropolitan Area.

Greetings, In the above-mentioned article if you navigate to the See also section. There are too many article with redlinks. Is it suitable for an article to have these many articles within the See also section. As I don't know much about that I am consulting you. Thanks Beastranger (talk) 12:29, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Beastranger: Yup, seems disruptive since there was already another "See also" section. I got another one Transport in Maharashtra, edited similarly. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:06, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Parmahansa Yogananda

Oops! Sorry I meant to only revert only the commonwealth english edits but it seems it might have reverted all of your edits. Is there anything I can do to help? The English should be the English we use in the United States because that is how this page began and he lived in the US from 1920 until his death in 1952 and he had become a citizen.Red Rose 13 (talk) 13:51, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Red Rose 13: The article mentions he is an Indian throughout with no mention of him being an US citizen. If a person dies somewhere has nothing to do with it. Besides the article already had Commonwealth spelling template added "EngvarB" before I applied the script. Besides you have removed Date Formats + A lot of automated stuff updated through citation bot. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:01, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I am so sorry for reversing the other edits. My mistake... I feel badly about that. I will add in the information that he was a citizen of the United States with documentation hopefully it will be allowed to stay. The spelling template should be changed to the one for the United States. Is there anything I can do help put back your other edits?Red Rose 13 (talk) 14:06, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Red Rose 13: I've already done that. No need to worry. As for the subject being a US citizen, provide sources, after which we can have a discussion in the talk page (with other editors) whether to change the lead from Indian to "American" or "Indian-American", etc. If the consensus is to change it to American, I'll make the necessary changes in spelling, etc. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:15, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since the article had this ...was an Indian yogi.. and already had the {{EngvarB}} (for Commonwealth English) from atleast 2014, it would be better to maintain the Status Quo and discuss this first. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:21, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editing question

Hi Fylindfotberserk, I currently came across your editing remarks regarding not to include social links in the infobox. However, if you go through https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump, you'll see that the official links are present in the infobox itself. We just wanted to post the official twitter and Facebook link in the infobox for the ease of access of the user and raise their grievances. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Javed hasrat (talkcontribs) 10:33, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Javed hasrat: Thanks for asking. Firstly, Wikipedia is not a Catalogue, Guide or a Complain Box for people. And Trump's article is not a high status article. You can check the Good Article status articles like Narendra Modi, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Alexander Lukashenko, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Gordon Brown, etc that doesn't mention social sites in the Infobox. It is a MOS that's typically followed in Indian politician articles. WP:EL are typically not used in Wikipedia and should be restricted to the "External links" section at best. See WP:ELOFFICIAL, WP:Twitter-EL, WP:FACEBOOK which only allows usage of social sites in the External links section. And see WP:ELMIN as per which only one Offcial Link needs to be provided. And since Fadnavis' article already mentions his Official Website which links to all of his social sites like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and a blog, those need not be mentioned separately as per WP:ELMIN. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:52, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Date format script

Why, when your date format script corrects the date format on a page, does it also change the date of the date format tag? The tag is supposed to show the date at which the date format was established, not the date of the most recent edit? MapReader (talk) 13:11, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@MapReader: I do that using Ohconfucius' scripts and according to these templates, the template date has to be updated at the time of script or bot cleanup runs, which the script does automatically. See this excerpt from Template:Use dmy dates for example,
After being tagged, and bearing in mind article evolution, periodic script or bot runs clean up formats, correcting any new introductions since its last visit, and updating the visit date on the template. Regards. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:00, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for the quick comment. It looks like this is my misunderstanding, since the date is supposed to be the date of the last check, which I didn't realise. Thanks again MapReader (talk) 15:33, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MapReader: You are most welcome. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:46, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request Clarifications on Edits

Hello Fylindfotberserk,

I'm not as frequent or as prolific an editor here as I'd like to be but am starting out and wanted a quick clarification on two edits that were undone on this page yesterday: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Jains I had added Arun Jain to the list as he is a Jain business leader acknowledged by the Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) - screenshot attached.

File:JITO Screenshot Arun Jain
JITO Screenshot Arun Jain

In addition, the entry on Indu Jain of The Times of India Group has also been deleted: I had added her two sons, Samir and Vineet Jain, with links to their page as they are prominent Jain business leaders.

May I request your help in clarifying why these were dropped and if they could be reinstated: this will help me also improve my future edits.

Thanks and regards,.

Mohitoz (talk) 02:57, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mohitoz: Thanks for asking. The article List of Jains is a list of followers of Jainism. It is not a list of people bearing the surname Jain like this article. In the Arun Jain link you provided and his Wiki article, I wasn't able to find anything that says he follows Jainism, neither in the Indu Jain link and article. Thus it fails WP:V. Also note that in Wikipedia and in the article lead itself, we have this rule according to which a person's ethnic/caste/religious affiliation needs to be self-identified, instead of assumption based on his/her surname. If you find a reliable source like books, mainstream news source, etc, which explicitly says, such and such people follow Jainism, feel free to add them with those sources. If not, list them in Jain (surname). Secondly, we have to source an individual's religion separately, referring to Indu Jain's sons. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:18, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again: this is most helpful and I will read through the links you've suggested to improve my own usage and contributions. On the Arun Jain entry, however, he is a practising Jain but I will see if there is any source where this is self-evident. And while I had added Samir and Vineet Jain to Indu Jain's existing entry, I understand what you mean: that they should be listed separately. Regards. Mohitoz (talk) 10:36, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome Mohitoz. Your edits were in good faith, but that drew me to the Indu Jain entry where I didn't find any reference to her being a follower. It is always better to have explicit sources instead of botched addition. If not today, then after sometime, these are liable to get removed. Regards - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:46, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Fylindfotberserk. You're right in that there doesn't seem to be anything I found where Arun Jain talks about being a Jain himself, though the fact that he is pat of the team at Jitopreneurs [[4]] and the screenshot I'd shared earlier does imply that he is a Jain himself. Wondering is this is good/credible enough? I do know that the Jains of Times of India are also practising Jains themselves but will try and find a credible source to support this. Regards. Mohitoz (talk) 04:45, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Mohitoz, this would probably do since their about page says "..community of visionary Jain", however a reliable WP:Independent source would be better IMO. I couldn't find one though. I unable to see the image provided by you, it displays a redlink. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:47, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again Fylindfotberserk. So, I suppose one can cite this source to add Arun Jain to the list of Jains. I have uploaded the screenshot again for your reference:

File:Arun Jain JITO Going Global Committee.png
Screenshot from JITO website showing Arun Jain

Regards, Mohitoz (talk) 12:58, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mohitoz Yeah, add his name with this reference. Not the screeshot. And do not embed external link of Intellect Design Arena in the article. It is not relevant to the article. If Intellect Design Arena has a Wikipedia article, then you can pipe-link it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:56, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, will do Fylindfotberserk.Mohitoz (talk) 08:56, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked user tool?

Hi F, have I mentioned to you the blocked user tool? If you go to Preferences > Gadgets > Appearance, then activate "Strike out usernames that have been blocked", it should help you spot potential sockpuppets and other recurring disruptive people in the article edit history. I was just looking at the edit history at Gippy Grewal when I noticed a new user Arjun6776 was evading a previous block under Arjun2726. Seeing the names struck out helped me spot that quicker. Anyway, I recommend it. And if I already brought this up, sorry. I've told a few people about it, I just can't remember who. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:01, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyphoidbomb: You told me about that tool before and I've activated it already. Arjun6776 seemed like an obvious SP of Arjun2726 to me, especially on Gippy Grewal and in this and this. I was going to report them, but forgot lol, got busy somewhere else. Thanks for taking care of them and thanks again for recommending that useful tool. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:33, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, so this guy turned out to be a problematic editor who engaged in a lot of POV forcing in Christianity-related articles and who also was engaging in sockpuppetry. If you see someone come back and start changing the language to the Akshay Kumar article in a similar style, and if I don't happen to see it, please let me know. This is one of the areas of interest. If you look at the history you'll see all those crossed-out namees. That's them. They resorted to creating impostor to try to blend in with Abishai 300. Here's another article, but it's far less disruption there. The crossed-out IP is them as well. You don't have to watch these articles if you don't want to. I was just giving you some background. sami sokpuppetry

You are probably aware about User:Muhammad Samiuddin Qazi (sami) and his cronic sockpuppetry since the past year (seeing you filed reports about it). The user and his socks and IPs have been pushing an Urdu POV on many articles especially relating to India. Can I ask you to keep an eye on Category:Actresses in Urdu cinema, Category:Actresses in Urdu television, Category:Male actors in Urdu cinema which these IP/socks have added in many articles on Indian actors who have not worked in the Urdu films/television at all. Thanks. I have tried to clean this mess for now. Gotitbro (talk) 11:08, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gotitbro: Sure. I have this in my watchlist. That incorrigible person I tell you. Thanks for re-raising the IP range block request. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:43, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is one serious abuser. Thankfully the recently used IP ranges have been blocked (see SPI) but I am still not sure if that is enough to stop this. Can you also keep your eye out for Category:Territorial disputes of Pakistan that has been heavily added by socks/IPS to articles and categories of places in India that have no such disputes. The category should be limited to the ones its currently populated with if its found/added anywhere else its most likely sami or another vandal. Gotitbro (talk) 13:41, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gotitbro: Also in Category:Delhi, Category:Uttar Pradesh, etc. I believe he's in a spree to connect every region with significant Muslim population or anything related to Urdu or Islam with Pakistan. His most edits seem to be concentrated in articles related to the Muhajirs and Sindh. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:15, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bramhesh Patil: Would require a WP:CONSENSUS from other editors in the article talk page. Since Wikipedia is neutral, we do not mention things like Lord, Maharaj, Majesty, etc in the article names. Unless Maharaj is part of Shivaji's name or the term "Shivaji Maharaj" is more common than "Shivaji", it would not be added. - Fylindfotberserk - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:26, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year Fylindfotberserk!

Questionable editor

Hey there, if you happen to see Akashvermadzzz make any more problematic edits, please let me know. I don't get the sense that they're here to be constructive. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:56, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cyphoidbomb I've the same feeling. Have you seen his disruptive edits at Amir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan articles? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:57, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cyphoidbomb First time I came across this person was in Allahabad and Faizabad related articles. They were like any other POV pusher, in those article, wanting to change Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya, disregarding WP:COMMONNAME. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:01, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw their obviously disruptive edits. I just asked them why they deleted all that stuff at the Shah Rukh Khan article. I'm getting a "good-hand/bad-hand" vibe from them, i.e., where they make good edits and bad edits, and other users assuming good faith wind up being a bit confused as to whether this editor just needs some guidance, when they're actually just here to be a pain in the arse. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:06, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cyphoidbomb Yup, that vibe. I came across atleast a couple "good faith edits" by them before, but were actually POVs. That vandalism @SRK, Salman Khan and Amir Khan point towards a POV. It fits well with their vandalism on Allahabad and Faizabad articles. If you could understand what I mean! - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:15, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

IPv6 user

My impression is that some of User_talk:2001:E68:60DC:7801:253A:85B6:C2AD:A4FB's edits are intended constructively, although others seem a bit like testing small random changes to see if they can survive unfixed. I'm not a patroller, but anyone doing patrolling should probably keep an eye on this IPv6 user and see how rapidly s/he makes an effort to learn the need for proper sourcing. Boud (talk) 12:20, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Boud: I agree that some of their edits are constructive, but most are unexplained disruptive changes. I've seen their edits in Haryana related articles before, they just randomly change dates. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:35, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding parameter

Hi @Fylindfotberserk: would please remove "nationality" and "citizenship" in the Infobox for Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi article as both of them were born and brought-up in India moreover first person is the PM of a country, it sounds bit chauvinistic or jingoistic by putting those parameters. You can check Boris Johnson, Donald Trump or Angela Merkel articles none of those articles have these parameters in the infobox. Another point in Narendra Modi article too many awards mentioned in Infobox, some of them are as quite irrelevant or as unimportant like Nobel Prize / Bharat Ratna for that matter. You can scrape some of those.--Isak.lund (talk) 04:48, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings for New Year, My Friend !

Help

Hi, I recently come across the wikipage of Ranaghat, a neighborhood of Greater Kolkata in West Bengal. In the Notable people section, I found many unknown names, especially in the culture subsection. Edits have been primarily made from different IP addresses. It indeed seems like a self promotion. Could you please have a look into this? DeoxysX (talk) 17:06, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DeoxysX:  Done Thanks for asking. Since the list is for "Notable people" and in Wikipedia we establish WP:NOTABILITY through the creation of an article, we typically follow "No article, no inclusion" policy in these kind of lists. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:13, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

One more question

One more question. Are external links redirecting to YouTube are allowed alongside verified social media account? Check Bhuvan Bam. DeoxysX (talk) 05:03, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DeoxysX: Thanks for asking. A verified YouTube channel can be added if the person is notable for his/hers YouTube presence. And Bam is famous for that, however you should link his YT channel in the Infobox rather than the External links similar to articles like Dude Perfect, Gaurav Chaudhary, using the 'channels' parameter. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:16, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Peopling of India, POV IP

Hello, could you please watch or take a look at Peopling of India. An fringe IP (several ones) ate pushing unsourced or biased views and delete parts which does not fot their view. I have reverted them now. Can you please watch over the page? Thank you.MomotaniSS (talk) 17:50, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
