January
- 2 January
- A runway collision at Tokyo Haneda Airport occurred when Japan Airlines Flight 516, operated by an Airbus A350-900 arriving from Sapporo collided with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft and caught on fire. All 367 passengers and 12 crew members of the Airbus were evacuated according to the airline. There were 6 occupants onboard the Coast Guard aircraft, a De Havilland Canada Dash 8; the captain escaped with serious injuries whilst the remaining 5 crew members were killed. The Coast Guard aircraft was scheduled to provide relief to Niigata in response to the Sea of Japan earthquake.

Deadliest crash
The deadliest crash so far in 2024 is Japan Airlines Flight 516 which collided with a Japan Coast Guard De Havilland Canada Dash 8 killing 5 out of the 6 occupants of the Dash 8.
