Reporting vandalism

Hi Lihaas, yes, I reported that editor at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. For future reference you can follow the instructions there for reporting repeated vandalism, should you find any. Thanks for helping deal with vandalism on Wikipedia. Hi again Lihaas. No, adding the semi-protection template to the top of the article does not cause the article to become semi-protected. Only an administrator can semi-protect an article. You can request semi-protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Regards, Accurizer (talk) 16:53, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lihass, I don't understand this 3 revert-something. Does it mean that I cannot include my template again? Why do people object to it being in the See also section? I mean , one could understand if it featured in the article, but in the reference/See also section? If you think it wouldn't be prudent for me to include it any more, can I ask you to put it in again?Nick Finnsbury (talk) 13:50, 21 September 2008 (UTC) Template:U.S. strikes in Bajour/Waziristan[reply]

Edit summary

Just a note re your edit summary "artifact is not spelled artefact". Yes it is - in British English. There's no particular reason why British spelling should be preferred in the Swastika article, but it is for specifically British and Commonwealth topics and some others in which historically it has been the dominant spelling system adopted. Paul B (talk) 14:05, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the main thing is consistency - whether US or UK spellings are used. I was drawing something to your attention, not advocating UK spelling for this article. Paul B (talk) 14:09, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Version 0.7 reviewing

Hi, I see that you've signed up for the 1.0 review team. We need your help right now, because we had around 70 nominations last week! As you probably know, Version 0.7 is coming out soon, mainly based on the bot selection. This relieves us of the burden of manually assessing 30,000 articles, but we need the manual system to catch the articles that might "fall through the cracks" - such as a couple of missing provinces needed to complete a set. If you're no longer interested in reviewing, please can you remove your name from the list of reviewers?

You should consult the criteria, but I would suggest that most manual nominations of B-Class articles or higher are expected to pass, unless they are fairly obscure. You can get a good sense of the importance by looking at the article in the bot's list (check the talk page to find which projects have tagged it); an importance score (excluding quality) of <700 indicates that the article is probably too obscure, unless it is needed to complete a useful set (e.g., all the counties of England). I take the view that if someone who is knowledgeable on the topic spends the time to nominate the article, it is likely to be OK, but just occasionally people try to argue for an obscure or poor-quality article.

So, are you able to help? Many thanks, Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to do

I will be unable to do so right now as I don't have a stable internet connection right now.Pl add the BBC's peoples comments to that article.[1]User talk:Yousaf465

I beg your pardon? The statement is already stated to come from the FTS source, and if you're really anal-retentive you (or I) can add the external link to their site to make it even more clear.

Moving on, I fail to see how it is defamatory. Uncited perhaps, but defamatory? What?

Lastly, it's really, really annoying to see a templated message on my talk page. Templates are for mass-warning faceless IPs, not firmly-established editors. Octane [improve me?] 27.09.08 1947 (UTC)

It would be a lot nicer if you'd give some substance to your posts, rather than foisting the assumption of your line of attack onto me. Nevertheless I think I have figured out the kernel of a point in your blip of a reply: {{uw-defamatory2}} is used for "[i]nserting factual inaccuracies and/or libel" into articles, not for being harsh with other users. If you are really offended by "ye arse", take it to WP:DR. Octane [improve me?] 27.09.08 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry if my comment was too informal for you to realise my intention is discussing an improvement to the article- but it was, please WP:AGF, this contained several facts we could seek sources for or explain in the article- how many women are doing it, and how it has less participation in other countries, though that's probably growing. For all this we could probably find WP:RS, indeed it was mentioned in a documentary on mainstream television in the UK. The talk page is not yours to WP:OWN, and even if you didn't value my comment or think it might lead to an improvement, it was only up two days and others might have felt like replying to it even if you didn't, which could have led to us all deciding on extra cites and facts to the article. Please don't revert me again but WP:AGF and see that your personal judgement of my comment is just that- your personal, subjective judgement with which others might well not agree, and I assure you my intention is to improve wikipedia, what with my having been here three years.:) Sticky Parkin

NPOV Violation

Apparently you can get these by adding personal opinions to talk pages now. I suppose it was a pretty controversial topic - after all I added a comment about whether an article should be split under the section where people comment about whether the article should be split. Thankfully, you titled the warning you put on my talk page "Septembet 2008," so I know just how seriously I have to take your threat of edit-blocking. Incidentally, were you shrooming when you put up this warning? Looks like other people have had similar experiences with you. Is it eugor, or is it just idiotic trolling? Only time will tell. But I'm sick of being harassed by irresponsible pseudo-admins. -Fredgoat (talk) 07:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Funny, I looked at WP:Civility like you suggested, and I couldn't find the place where it says you should solicit your friends to help you gang up on people. Clarence Thomas

Used RafaelGarcia is engaging in an edit war on this article. The talk page is full of requests that the extensive section about allegations against Thomas be reduced. I have only sought to add a single paragraph noting some of the refutations of Hill's testimony, but RafaelGarcia has deleted them 4 or 5 times now. HELP!  :) Thanks (Wallamoose (talk) 01:27, 7 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I have deleted nothing; I simply moved all the info so that the info against the accusers was all together. Also, Wallamoose doesn't know how to cite properly. He cites to a huge index of tons of testimony instead of citing to individual testimony PDFs. In addition, he's making NPOV edits trying to tell readers the significance of things; that is unsupported by the text. Also, he's made statements unsupported by citations.RafaelRGarcia (talk) 01:34, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wallamoose's accusations of bias and impropriety are untrue. I work hard on that article, and I brought in material from the Supreme Court book by CNN legal analyst and respected author, Jeffrey Toobin. I also used quotations from Thomas's own opinions. Unfortunately, though, Wallamoose is prone to delete anything about Thomas that maybe makes him look bad, instead of adding things to make him look good, which has caused some conflict. I'm not going to respond to Walla if he posts here; I'm just making clear that I work at all times in good faith. Every sentence I write is cited. Everything I do is to improve the Supreme Court content on Wikipedia, which is woefully thin. RafaelRGarcia (talk) 02:11, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I answered your query on my talk page. FYI, I am a big fan of Kolams. Do you know what those are? There's a place near here where they have Masala Dosas too. So it reminds me of my time on the subcontinent. But I miss the Kolams. I just searched for it on here and was happy to find a site. But it doesn't work when you put in kolams or Kolams. Could you fix that? I saw an Indian author just won the booker prize. Anyway, Party on. Are you one of Midnight's Children? That would be cool! "Military actions by states during war are usually not considered terrorism, even when they involve significant civilian casualties." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism#State_terrorism)

That's the reason I don't consider US strike as terrorism.

Nationalism article

Hello. In the summary of your edit to the article on Nationalism, you wrote that "a reference to an abstract of a book that doesn't mention the relevant matter is not acceptable". I agree but, since this was not the case with the reference you removed, I have restored it. If you look carefully, the reference is to a specific page in the book (page 29), not the abstract that Google Books provides as an overview of the source. Most print sources are not linked on Wikipedia at all, but I decided to provide the Google Books link to this one and others in the article, in case someone who does not have library access would like to take a look at it. The specific page that is referenced can be found here and, as you can see, it supports the text of the article. – SJL 03:01, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to this article are puzzling. The most significant issue is the overshadowing of what is clearly the most widespread use of the term referencing female homosexuality to a localized term that many do not use, but admittedly is still valid: a resident of the island of Lesbos. Why have you decided against all reliable sourcing that the more popular use of the word refers to the island inhabitants? By placing the use of the word to mean the Greek inhabitants of Lesbos before the terminology of female homosexuality, it gives the Greek island meaning more importance over the use of lesbian. This, quite simply, is astonishing. Secondly, you duplicated the reflist, deleted an external link, and added a section called "History of the term" that begins in 2008. I don't see how that's history.

To avoid further reverts, please discuss your changes on the talk page. This is a community project. --Moni3 (talk) 00:37, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Defining child sexual abuse as pedophilia in the Sexual ethics and legality section of the Sexual intercourse article

As I stated in my edit summary upon reverting that edit you made, not all of the lowlifes known as child sexual abusers are pedophiles. And pedophilia is in reference to the mental condition. You could put "sometimes medically defined as pedophilia" or something like that.

Calling child sexual abuse pedophilia in the Sexual intercourse article was also discussed on the Sexual intercourse talk page.

Also, as I'm sure you noticed, we do not define child sexual abuse in the lead of the Child sexual abuse article here as pedophilia (at least not as its primary definition), for the very reason I noted above, though we do note pedophilia in its lead.

Plus, child sexual abuse is the legal term for an adult or late teenager engaging in sex with a child, or even sometimes an adult engaging in sex with a late teenager below the age of consent. Flyer22 (talk) 21:44, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you flagged me as not having a neutral point of view in the article about the 2008 Assam bombings, yet you changed nothing of my edit, which was in fact merely an edit of incorrect grammar /syntax in a quote. Politics of Memory

Hello. I'm curious about this subject. Is this similar to the politics of history (also not yet an article) meaning how society and cultural memories are developed and passed on, epitomized by the saying "Hisory is written by the victors"? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:51, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think politics of history may be a better phrasing, but either way we can always add a redirect. Yes, I am interested in working on the topic with you. I think it's an excellent one. I was suggesting the famous quote "history is written by the victors" as an example of how history/memory is not an objective science. There are also cultural issues, as with indigineous tribes who have no history in the form of written documents, but maintain oral histories and cultural history through folkloric traditions. I also thought of Milan Kundera's work. In the first story in his book Laughter and Forgetting a photo is being taken of officials in winter. One German official lends his hat to his superior, but he later falls out of favor with the government and is airbrushed out of the photo, expunged from all official documents, and effectively out of history. All that remains of him is his fur hat in the photo. This happened quite a bit in China also as I recall. It's your idea so I would ask you to start the article in whatever form you choose and I will add to it from there. ChildofMidnight (talk) 15:54, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I did some bold editing of the article. I'm a bit tired so references will have to wait. Feel free to delete, revert, rewrite as you see fit. Also let me know any comment you have here, on the articles talk page, or on my talk page as per your desire. Thanks for welcoming me to the project, I hope you won't regret your decision to include me from teh outset.  :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:36, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lihaas. What's cooking? As far as the article, I've been preoccupied with other pursuits. But I have thought about it. Basically I'd like to just build it out more with the various sections: ie Iron Curtain, Western World, China etc. Maybe even a section on Wikipedia and/or the internet. Add content, add references. The usual thing. I'm also aching to move the "German example" from the introduction into the body of the article. Take care. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:37, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That incident had absolutely nothing to do with templates, and was in fact an entirely different matter. If you want to talk about being uncivil, you should look in a mirror. Do not make assumptions when material to verify the facts is widely available.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 12:53, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right now, I'm going to sigh. Why? Because for one, you mis-quoted me. I did not tell you to not get involved where it doesn't concern you, get it right. I said, do not get involved until you fully grasp the situation. Per your original comment, it was very obvious that you did not, and per your most recent comment, you still obviously do not, so, instead of trusting you that you would actually go find out what the thread was about, I'm going to go ahead and not trust you, and explain it here:
That user was talking about me behind my back, and did not alert me. My question was asking what the comments about me were specifically about, and an admin agreed with me on the matter. It had nothing to do with templates, so again, I did not say for you to not get involved where it does not concern you, I said if you are going to get involved, make sure you know exactly what is going on first. Do not make assumptions based on limited knowledge of the situation.dαlus Contribs /Improve 23:02, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thirdly, I have never attacked you, so please, do not state falsely otherwise.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 23:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well then, I do apologize for that, as it had slipped my mind. But besides that point, you were uncivil in the fact that you were making judgments upon me without completely reviewing the available material. Secondly, in what way is this a slashing match. What went on is quite simple. You templated an established user. I then gave you a friendly note about templating established users. You responded by telling me I was wrong, and that something just like this incident happened in the past. And that is where you were wrong, as, as I stated above, the incident had nothing to do with templating others. The user in question in the conversation which you referenced had posted a topic on another user's talk page who's thread title was my username, and pointed to a page which was about me. When I asked him the purpose of this comment, he outright refused to reply, as you can easily see on my talk page. Finally, an admin intervened, and agreed with my thoughts of if someone is talking about me, I have the right to know.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 23:32, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And to continue to get things right, suggesting that another user has been uncivil is not an attack. I have not attacked you. The only reason I am apologizing is because you obviously took offense to it.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 23:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Abkhazia edit

I reverted that edit immediately myself. Lighten up.128.138.42.218 (talk) 17:04, 17 November 2008 (UTC) And the old "monologue" edit was good faith, and was actually a reasonable edit. It should have never been flagged. This is certainly not on the level of putting up a bunch of penis images on some page or other. Geez.128.138.42.218 (talk) 17:04, 17 November 2008 (UTC) How is it "vandalism" if you revert it yourself immediately? The only people who will see it are those who want to amuse themselves by going through old edits, and all sorts of vandalism is preserved there for the ages anyway. That's part of the fun of wikipedia. At any rate, this wasn't worth the angry response with an exclamation point. That's what I mean by "lighten up." As I said, the one for "monologue" was good faith and should never have been messaged at all, just reverted if someone decided it wasn't notable. The FARC one was similar, I concede. But as I said, this was hardly worth getting your shorts in a knot over.128.138.42.218 (talk) 17:08, 17 November 2008 (UTC) Yeah, I admit I shouldn't be stupid like that. I actually have a WP username that I use for serious edits. The temptation to mess around with an IP is sometimes great, but I understand that I shouldn't do it, and won't in the future.128.138.42.218 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 17:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Ouch! You've used a template to send a message to an experienced editor. Please review Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars or maybe listen to a little advice. Doesn't this feel cold, impersonal, and canned? It's meant in good humor. Best wishes. -- Banjeboi 02:34, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do

Hi Lihaas. Please do add Indo-Palestinian relations to the WP:PALESTINE new articles page. It will help other project members to become aware of its existence and pitch in.

I will take a look at Israeli Apartheid Week again soon. To be honest, I have little patience for the mountains made out of molehills by some of those who edit in this area, and often find it best to simply disengage and go somewhere else until things die down again. But I will peek in, if only to come back here and offer you advice.

Thanks for all your contributions and happy editing.Tiamuttalk 21:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to religion-based articles

Hey there. I notice that you've been doing quite a bit of editing to some religion-based articles such as The Holy See, Vatican City, Foreign relations of the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI... Having been involved in these articles for a while, I know that they often fall subject to lengthy edit wars, and there are many many people monitoring them. While you obviously have as much right as anyone to edit them, a friendly suggestion would be to discuss a little more in the talk pages so everyone has a better understanding of why you're making certain changes, and there can be some exchange back and forth. The number of edits, and the significant changes you have been making will inevitably lead to some reverts. Please take some time to engage the community a little more before-hand. Thanks! --Anietor (talk) 19:58, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vatican foreign relations

Hi there! You might want to check out the Category:Foreign relations of the Holy See category and its subcats for more information. It also appears that, under the current naming convention, Foreign relations of the Holy See would be a better title. Do you mind if I move it there? --Hemlock Martinis (talk) 20:06, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Economics census

Hello there. Sorry to bother you, but you are (titularly at least) a member of WP:WikiProject Economics, as defined by this category. If you don't know me, I'm a Wikipedia administrator, but an unqualified economist. I enjoy writing about economics, but I'm not very good at it, which is why I would like to support in any way I can the strong body of economists here on Wikipedia. I'm only bothering you because you are probably one of them. Together, I'd like us to establish the future direction of WikiProject Economics, but first, we need to know who we've got to help.

Whatever your area of expertise or level of qualification, if you're interested in helping with the WikiProject (even if only as part of a larger commitment to this wonderful online encyclopedia of ours), would you mind adding your signature to this page? It only takes a second. Thank you.
