WP:WikiProject Winter sports
Hello, seeing as you're the one updating sliding sports, I was wondering if the Wikiproject that supposedly covers these sports should be restarted? (And therefore have the articles tagged, so that contributors can collaborate at a centralized area) -- 70.49.127.65 (talk) 05:34, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Krk fx.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Krk fx.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Team RUSs.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Team RUSs.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:51, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:2007 World Weightlifting Championship.gif

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:2007 World Weightlifting Championship.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 11:04, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like pages like that. Keep it up, and eventually we should have such pages for every World Championship ever. Punkmorten 17:35, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Basketball club UNICS(Kazan) logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Eurovolleyball2007 logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Eurovolleyball2007 logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Hello. I see you are working on sports articles a lot. I wonder if you could help me a bit with 2007-08 Four Hills Tournament article? I've started it with the basic information but it needs to be expanded. And by the way, you can edit your userpage so that it won't appear as a redlink. World Cup template suggestion

I have a suggestion for you. Could you please do a winter sports World Cup navigational template since there is already one for the 2007-08 season on multiple sports such as cross country skiing, bobsleigh, luge, nordic combined, ski jumping, skeleton, etc.? I would really appreciate it. Chris (talk) 15:29, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vivian Yusuf

Do you have any other references that she will be the Nigerian flag bearer? I can come up with the blog entry (which is rife with mistakes, calling her the only African judoka) http://www.theolympianblog.com/2008/07/flag-bearers-nigerias-vivian-yusuf.html which in turn cites this: http://en.beijing2008.cn/news/sports/headlines/judo/n214393740.shtml . That article clearly does not refer to the opening cermenony, but to a judo training camp, and calls Africa's Judo participants "flag bearers":

"Nigeria's judo sole flag bearer to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games"

I doubt Nigerian Judo has its own flag.

"Yusuf will move with the other African flag bearers to Spain, Portugal, France and Japan for the four-nation training tour that will be the final lap of preparation for the Olympics"

I also doubt there is a flag bearing training camp for judoka.

Please at least come up with some reasoning for re-adding her -- I may have missed something, but I see no source for this at this point. Looks like a misunderstanding to me.

Hi, I see you have changed large portions of the above article back to how they were before I started work on it. The style i've been chnging it to is the standard style established for category:Nations at the 2008 Summer Olympics articles at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Olympics and as such will (eventually) be in use on all pages for the 2008 olympics. I will attempt to undo your edits without removing the new information you added. If you wish to suggest changes to the standard format then please bring the subject up at wikiproject olympics. Footer_Olympic_Champions_Women_K-1_500_m

A tag has been placed on Footer_Olympic_Champions_Women_K-1_500_m, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template hangon to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. In an attempt to upgrade the quality of tennis articles, I have taken up the suggestion of adding short day-by day summaries to each of the tournament articles for 2009. I see that you created this category and later blanked the page. A faster way to delete a category you've created yourself is to place db-author on the page. This tag attracts the attention of an administrator who can perform the deletion for you. Contact me if you have questions about this. Best regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 04:21, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to Peter Martin (athlete). Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. --Allen3 talk 14:36, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Russian WP?

WildCherry, I was unaware of your existence until you appeared in a list of supposedly naughty date delinkings at the talk page of the current arbcom case that appears to be turning into a witch-hunt of the reformists involved over the past nine months in the move towards sanity on the issue of date-autoformatting and a generally selective approach to linking on en.WP.

You appear to be a native speaker of Russian—at least, I see cyrillic script above, and I have difficulty making out exactly what it means. You may be aware that three of us recently tried to introduce the notion of sane linking practices to the French WP, but were banned for life by the link brigade there with the help of one of their powerful friends, no questions asked. There was a tsunami of bossy screeching followed by a series of nasty, dishonest posts at the ArbCom Evidence page. While WP.fr is pretty appalling in its "sea of blue", I wonder what the Russian WP is like WRT to overlinking. Can you inform me? Tony (talk) 14:47, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

date links and the Road to Damascus

Hi WildCherry06. As Tony1 has pointed out above, I have analysed your contribution to the delinking on tennis articles, and posted it to Evidence in the ongoing case here.

Sorry, I didn't inform you of this. I have been meaning to come and discuss this with you.

However I must put your mind to rest. Tony1 presumes that I view your delinking as naughty, however that could not be further from the truth. I have included your contributions because they demonstrate a natural progression towards conservative linking, and because it is striking that your efforts were not reverted as far as I can see, in comparison to the massive edit-wars that occurred elsewhere in the tennis articles.

One question that I have is what changed between September 29, when you were linking dates, and October 6, when you started delinking dates? What was your Road to Damascus moment? Curious minds want to know, but dont feel like you need to answer. If you want to stay out of this, that is fine too. Happy editing, John Vandenberg (chat) 02:07, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First, apologize for my English. I was a little surprised attention to its personality, without informing me. My edits in line with WP:date and my understanding of the germane references. And of course I did not know until this week about the arbitration case. WildCherry06 (talk) 05:49, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RBSL player template question

Is there a way to link a player's name using that template to an article whose name is not the same as player's name? Good work on setting up European Team Championships 2009, I was just about to do the same myself but found you'd already done it! Thinking about it, it would probably help if we could organise a central repository for basic events results on articles, does such a thing already exist? Did you draw up the new article from scratch or did you use another article as a template? I'd also like to sort out naming procedures for the event result sub-articles at some point. How are points determined?

How are points determined in the basketball games? I was planning to update some of the results- happy to see you are ahead of me, but if you weren't around and I tried to update, I don't know how the points are determined, for example, why did the US get three points for a win, while GBR got only 2?

Of course , it's my fault (WildCherry06 (talk) 16:42, 1 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]
I see you changed it - I wasn't criticising, I was honestly wondering. I know in US hockey they have different points for a win in regular time and a win in OT. We used to have, in basketball, a system where you got points for winning each quarter and one for winning the game,so I wondered if it was some variation on that. Looks like I over-thought it - one point for a loss, two points for a win.--SPhilbrickT 18:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Lokorostov.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Lokorostov.jpg.

A tag has been placed on 2009WorldBoxingChampionships requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Not all Russian/KHL teams use the "HC" in their name. Please check on a team-by-team basis. Some teams, like HC Sibir, HC Amur, HC MVD, etc. work....but other ones, like Ak Bars Kazan, Avangard Omsk, and so on, don't. HC is also used as a prefix when it's a sports organization that is in multiple sprots - like HC Spartak Moscow vs. FC Spartak Moscow. --Львівське (talk) 19:12, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See official sites. All clubs named "Hockey club"(Ak bars, Avangard, Amur) (WildCherry06 19:21, 28 September 2009 (UTC))
Ak Bars says "Ak Bars" or "official site of hockey club AK BARS KAZAN". Nowhere does it say "HC Ak Bars". Avangard....their website is all over the place, not much consistency. Just go by the logo in this case for proof (which has no XK). For Amur...you're right, they are called "HC Amur" in english. Off the top of my head, Amur, Sibir, Severstal, and MVD are the one's who always should have HC in their name.--Львівське (talk) 19:57, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
May i change article name Amur Khabarovsk to HC Amur Khabarovsk ? :)
It should be "HC Amur", if anything. Adding the city name isn't part of it's official name, just a common English mistake --Львівське (talk) 21:57, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but you are looking at the Russian version of the page. Remember this is English Wikipedia so the most common English version is the version that has to be used. Even if it is different from the Russian version of the name. -DJSasso (talk) 20:43, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category deletion

I am unable to delete Category:Metallurg Magnitogorsk players as you requested, because the speedy deletion criteria specify that this process cannot be used for categories that have been "emptied out of process." In this case, it appears that all the player articles were moved into Category:HC Metallurg Magnitogorsk players without going through the process described at WP:CFD for category moves. I encourage you to follow that process now. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 19:54, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

KHL player names

This goes along the same lines as the Amur Khabarovsk vs. HC Amur debate. Please do not continue to change all the player names in the KHL rosters such as Alexander to Aleksandr, Maxim to Maksim, and so forth. In nearly all cases, players who go to North America adopt the English translation and don't grammatically spell out every letter. Furthermore, 'e' vs. 'ye' gets even more complicated, but the rosters listed include what is commonplace spelling online. If the player happens to be part of a national team, with English spelling on his jersey, that is what he should be listed under in the English version of Wikipedia.(Saint0wen (talk) 06:38, 9 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello WildCherry06! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 938 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:

Sockpuppet

I notice your excellent work on VTB United League. I am also working on building that article and the Euroleague article. My cousin also had an account and he got blocked. Now someone has put a sockpuppet complaint on me. It's not the same account, it was my cousin's account. Can you help me with that? I don't think there should be a problem with this as it was not my account that was blocked. I think you can see that I have been working on for example VTB United League along with you and that has nothing to do with my cousin's account that got blocked. I don't want to have to go back and have to re-do all of my edits because of this.Euroleague Basketball Project (talk) 01:06, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Sergei Aleksandrovich Maslov, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Sergei Maslov. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Water polo rosters

Hey WildCherry.

Thanks for collecting data about the water polo rosters of the 2008 Olympic tournaments. I've put the roster tables in specific roster templates in order to save typing, as they can each be used in (at least) two places. Hope you like it.

Where did you find the data about the rosters? It would be nice if the rosters could be properly referenced. The references could ideally be added to the templates, which would make them visible in any article that uses the templates.

Cheers.

Requesting clarification for your edit warring report

I have closed Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:89.241.217.215 and User:89.241.218.10 reported by User:WildCherry06 (Result: malformed) without action, as it does not seem to be an edit warring issue. Is there some controversy regarding those times? If not, the edits you reported may be simple vandalism, and I could issue a range block for that set of IP addresses accordingly. Reply here is fine, or ping me if I do not notice soon. - 2/0 (cont.) 06:27, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's vandalism. You can return automatically all its changes (WildCherry06 06:32, 16 April 2011 (UTC))
They disagreed with apparently reliable cited sources and did not provide any of their own. It seemed an odd choice for a vandalism target, so thank you for the sanity check. I think I have put them all back, but please fix any I have missed. - 2/0 (cont.) 06:52, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Drat, that would block a larger block of IP addresses than I think this warrants. I just semi-protected a swath of pages. Can you keep an eye out in case they start a discussion? Alternatively, there might be a second smaller range block possible. Good luck, - 2/0 (cont.) 20:42, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. A tag has been placed on Martha McCabe requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion () tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Biathlon world cup

Sorry for making a bit of a mess today, not sure what happened, but thank you for fixing it.18abruce (talk) 18:19, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

fis cross country nations cup

where are the totals coming from, the link is badly outdated, and the I can't figure out where on the FIS site they are generating this. Also, do you have any idea what kind of a source is being used for the achievements section?18abruce (talk) 15:49, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Esthera Petre has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the prod blp tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Yasht101 :) 09:18, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 17

Hi. When you recently edited Igor Dragunov, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Defender (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:57, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, just to let you know that I comleted as much as I could the career of that player, mostly from the source I found on Saturn website (here) however I just need you to check if I did everything right, specially regarding the Dynamo Moscow reserves(?) team (and "LFK" team, what is that?), as it is possible that I missunderstood something, as I can read but not fully understand Russian. I knew about Shikhovtsev because I edit Serbian football, and he spent a couple of seasons in Serbia in the Second League a couple of years back, and now I found out that you made him an article. I´ll try to find his stats while with Radnicki and in the meantime you could ckeck my edits and see if they are right... Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 06:29, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WildCherry! Thanks for this edit! I got a bit frustrated halfway through and gave up (which isn't normally my style). Thanks for finishing up my messy editing. SFB 22:44, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain why you removed athletes from this category. Your edit summary does not explain why the category was removed from Amanda Bingson and other athletes. Fbdave (talk) 20:11, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! May I know why did you remove the categories that you did at the above page? Regards, Lovy Singhal (talk) 04:41, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, seeing as you're the one updating sliding sports, I was wondering if the Wikiproject that supposedly covers these sports should be restarted? (And therefore have the articles tagged, so that contributors can collaborate at a centralized area) -- 70.49.127.65 (talk) 05:34, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
