Revision as of 16:04, 22 April 2014

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sportspeople. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sportspeople|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sportspeople.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Not yet notable per WP:NFOOTBALL: can't find any evidence online that he's played in a professional match yet. No significant coverage in WP:Reliable sources online, only the Transfer-Sport profile that says he was signed to NK Osijek, but nothing in that reference about appearances. Former minor league baseball announcer. Has not received any well-known award or honor nor has he made any widely recognized contribution to broadcasting. Nearly all of the coverage about the subject has been WP:ROUTINE (e.g. announcements about career moves) and most of it has been written by people with an interest in promoting the subject (e.g. former employers). • Comment - I am not sure if this subject is notable or not, but I think the nomimation is mis-applying WP:GEOSCOPE, which is applicable to regional events, whereas this subject is a person, for which regional coverage may be adequate to demonstrate notability. That said, I am not sure that there is enough coverage here, even including regional coverage, to be adequate. Rlendog (talk) 15:44, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • You are correct about WP:GEOSCOPE. I have amended the nomination. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 16:30, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Non notable minor league player. References on the page are all of the routine variety reporting on transactions and the like. • Delete - article notes that only professional appearance was for Ayr in 2009 in a Division 2 match. Not only can I not find verification of this (or lack of verification of this after too long of a search ... why is it so hard to find Scottish results from only 4 years ago ...) but more importantly, even if it did happened, the old Division 2 isn't fully professional. Nfitz (talk) 23:53, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL. Verification of his appearance can be found here, but it's irrelevant as Scottish Division 2 was not fully-professional. GiantSnowman 11:20, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary and incorrect listing. We have separate lists for each of these statistics for a reason. Several of the entries are incorrect because they rely on incorrect criteria, which would make it a bear to correct. Hoops gza (talk) 18:27, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. It's useful to be able to see which players led in multiple categories the same year. Being inaccurate just means it needs to be fixed. Also, change the title to List of National Basketball Association statistical leaders by season. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:36, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Concur with the above user. It is useful to see who led in multiple categories, which is the reason I created the list in the first place. Mistakes on the list can be fixed, so that is certainly not a legitimate reason for deletion.—Chris!c/t 22:20, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hasn't played in a fully professional league or played for a national team - fails WP:NFOOTY. Also fails WP:GNG, hasn't been the subject of significant coverage in reliable sources.

  • Delete - fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL. GiantSnowman 14:12, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - while he fails WP:NFOOTBALL he does not fail WP:GNG. Süddeutsche Zeitung certainly is a reliable source. In depth coverage in the regional papers which goes beyond routine anouncements. Out of region coverage which extends to Polish, Spanish and Indonesian sources. While I can't vouch for the latter three as "reliable sources" in the Wikisense the transfer and the buildup to it has certainly created a media ripple that goes beyond the routine youth player moving to a major club. Might have something to do with the fact that he is built up to be "einer der talentiertesten Spieler Deutschlands" Agathoclea (talk) 15:07, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I did wonder about the Donaukurier source, especially as it came prior to local source. After reading about his brother their interest makes geographicaly sense. Agathoclea (talk) 15:15, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - I could have sworn an Azkals player with the surname "Ott" played at least once (although I cannot recall if this is the player in question). Regardless, he appears to have received some coverage in reliable sources, foreign ones even. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:45, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think the issues brought up in the original AfD with respect to notability and quality of references are still valid. I will say that the new poster has made significant effort to improve their original prose and also there is quite a bit of discussion/question about notability on the Talk page. I have read and understood that as an Entertainer the subject of my article meets the criteria of the Guidelines. In guidelines it is written that the Entertainers - Actors, voice actors, comedians, opinion makers, models, and celebrities: are notable if they •Has had a significant role in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions. •Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following. •Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment.

Which means that the participant of ‘’Dancing with the Stars’’ can be considered as notable because it is a television show and performance was taking place on the stage of Tbilisi Philharmonia Concert Hall. The subject of my article have also had a leading role in film “Dark Side’’ produced and directed by him and has been a subject of two major TV Channels in Georgia which are Imedi TV and Rustavi 2. He became notable in Georgia because of his sport achievements and his role in the film, therefore he was invited in ‘’Dancing with the Stars’’ as a star – as a notable/famous person in Georgia. Usually they only invite notable people in such kind of TV shows: The stars are being chosen and it is by invitation not a casting: (I have provided with the episodes of Dancing with The Stars in reference list) He also has a large fan base or a significant "cult” I mean Official Facebook Fun Page. I still don't understand why do you take it to AfD. After original AfD there was a big change in references which are articles published in official inter media and are far from blogs. I've seen many articles with only two references but even those articles are not Afd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sofiamar (talkcontribs) 10:14, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that it's not your article. Nevertheless, I'm inclined to say Keep this one. {GoldenRing} Please be informed that your note has been taken and your comment about the English-language can only motivate me and push me for improvement for which I have to thank you. With regards to instructive comments on the first AFD allow me to discuss, go through the comments step by step and provide with the qualitative information. User WikiDan61 was saying that Non-notable athlete, actor and model. Claims of notability as an athlete (kickboxing world championship in Egypt, 2008 and Karate European Champion in Lithuania, 2009) cannot be verified as no indication is given as to what sanctioning bodies awarded such titles (nor can any indication be found that such championships were held by any of the major sanctioning bodies). It should be noted that the subject's photograph shows him wearing a championship belt inscribed with the date November 2007, but the rest of the belt cannot be read to ascertain what championship it was.

I understand his point because that time there was no qualitative references and details provided and the belt which WikiDan61 was talking about was the belt of the national league of Georgian martial arts GEO-FIGHT ( Rati was the captain of Geo-Fight Team) Awarded by the most prestigious international federation “World gold belt” This time I have provided with the verification and information which was not provided before. Please find below Information About world championship: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ARati_Tsiteladze_with_World_Champion's_belt_and_other_awards_obtained_in_2008.gif http://www.muaythaitv.com/events/wasko-world-kickboxing-championship-e495.html http://forums.sherdog.com/forums/f42/wasko-world-championships-749763/ Also you can find WASKO ON “Liste d'organisations de kick boxing” European Championship

Wikidan61 also said that as for the subject's acting and modeling career, it is limited to an appearance… Well if it was limited in his opinion I can provide you with the evidence of two Major Modeling agencies in Dubai http://divadubai.com/search_detail.php?mod_id=13170&search_for=models&category=1&session_value=13170&session_index=0 http://www.emodels.me/search.php?search=Rati+Tsi+-+13006&match_type=all

Which was also not provided before as evidence and maybe you can have your own sense of judgment this time. In addition please note that Rati has IMDB credits which were not provided before as well. I hope you have an idea of what IMDB is for filmmaking industry.

The last comment of Wikidan61 was (win? loss? kicked out before he started? on the Georgian version of Dancing with the Stars, and a non-specific modeling career in Dubai.

Obviously it was not mentioned in previous article that the show premiered on October 8, 2012 and after 10 weeks Rati finished in 5th place and I have provided with the details and the episodes in reference list. With regards to none specific modeling career in Dubai I already provided the evidence and his Facebook Fun page https://www.facebook.com/RatiTsiteladze Has 191,000 fans which is statistically on the first place (in sport category) in Georgia followed by the Georgian National Rugby Team with 119,000 fans only https://www.facebook.com/OfficialGeorgiaRugby

Which speaks a lot about notability - Please note that the fun page of Rati Tsiteladze is just about one person while the other page is about Georgian National Rugby Team – even though rugby is considered as the first sport in Georgia.

I hope you understand that there have been many improvements in tone, details, references and evidence after the first Afd and will decide to keep this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sofiamar (talkcontribs) 00:07, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Fails WP:KICK and appearing on the Georgian version of Dancing with the Stars is not enough to show notability (I know the U.S. version has a generous definition of "star").204.126.132.231 (talk) 15:44, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't fail anything and by the way Georgia is also a country on this universe and saying that Georgian version doesn't have a generous definition of Star but U.S does is just highlighting your racism... I don't see anything like that written anywhere in Wikipedia policy or guidelines. And also logging in with different user names or IP address in order to place your opinion hundred times here, doesn't meet wikipedia policies and guidlines. --Sofiamar (talk) 20:29, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that English is not your first language and the use of the word "generous" above is a little subtle but basically it means that in the US show they use the word "star" too easily. He believes the Georgian version of the show is probably no better. Don't play the racism card - no one has any time for that.Peter Rehse (talk) 20:51, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for misunderstanding. In Georgia it is very important TV Show because if in U.S there are hundreds of TV Shows and series in Georgia is only few of them and Whole country is watching. They cannot really have a generous definition of "star" Because people know who is notable and who is not. I am not an expert in sport but I found evidence of his fighting in kickboxing (You can check) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FIGHTING_ROOKIES_-_K-1_-_2010.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Professional_K-1_Championship_-_Copy.jpg ; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Favorite_stunt_of_World_%26_European_Champion.gif ; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Another_Victory_of_World_Champion.gif ; However it is not just about kickboxing but many other styles of martial arts: http://www.geotimes.ge/index.php?newsid=15119&lang=eng , and it is about the person who has many achievements in Sport, TV and Film industry https://www.mashpedia.com/Rati_Tsiteladze .

The criteria for being a notable kickboxer can be found at WP:KICK. He doesn't seem to meet any of them. Sofiamar, you should be aware that you are violating WP:CIVIL when you call other editors racist and sockpuppets. Papaursa (talk) 01:15, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment He doesn't appear to be a notable kickboxer since he doesn't meet any of the criteria at WP:KICK. Besides kickboxing the article claims he has won multiple international championships in full contact karate (besides Kyokushin), Shorin-ryu Shidokan, neko ryu, Goju-Ryu, and sanda. If reliable independent sources for all of these championships can be found I'd say he likely passes WP:MANOTE, but the claims are not referenced. I would even say an argument could be made for keeping the article if reliable sources could be found for him being a 4 time European champion in Kyokushin. The only source for those is an invitation to the under 22 championship and that doesn't show he won (plus junior events are not generally considered sufficient to show notability). As far as being a notable entertainer goes, that's not really my area of expertise, but I'd say appearing on Dancing with the Stars doesn't show notability just like being an MMA fighter on The Ultimate Fighter fails to grant notability. I also have no idea what constitutes notability for a model. I'm not voting, at least not yet, because I want the author to have a chance to document those international championships in a wide variety of styles and because I am not sure about notability as a model. I still don't see independent sources about the multiple international championships in most of those disciplines. I also must admit the Georgian TV clips are useless to me. I take it the "universal fighter" award is given to the person deemed the best all-around fighter in Georgia, though it's never explained. Papaursa (talk) 22:01, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep I have removed unsourced claims and sourced some specific claims in the article. I'm still not convinced he meets WP:MANOTE and I found the Georgian Times interview with his coach, Kakhaber Markozashvili, to be poor journalism since he identified as a martial arts expert without identifying him as his coach. However, I do think a reasonable case can be made for him meeting WP:GNG and while I think a reasonable case can be made for deletion, I also think a reasonable case can be made for keeping the article so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Article is about an individual who is a youth football coach and an entrepreneur, but without any serious claim to notability. The article is essentially a glorified CV designed to promote the subject. Easily fails the subject specific WP:NFOOTBALL, and I don't think there's enough serious coverage to pass WP:GNG. • Delete - Player has not played in fully professional league, nor played senior international football, so fails NFOOTY. No indication of any other achievements garnering significant reliable coverage to achieve GNG. @Nicat49:, the number of times he has played is not relevant, as he has not played in a league currently deemed to be a FPL. What is required are sources indicating significant, reliable coverage of the individual. Fenix down (talk) 08:42, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - the entire article is basically unverified editorial sourced to race results. That's not how Wikipedia works. If we actually included those facts that can be verified by those sources the resulting article would violate WP:NOTSTATS. There are whole sections ("Kautz's Honda power and superior aerodynamics seem to have been the deciding factor up the hill en route to the checkered flag") which are pure original research. There are a couple of instances of coverage (like this and this) but they aren't exactly what we would consider reliable sources - news reports from various races. I can't see how the subject passes WP:GNG. Stalwart111 07:52, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I created this article because he is A REAL PROFESSIONAL. HE GETS PAID. PERIOD. In motorsport, to which I have been covering for over 35 years, 90% of drivers PAY to race. Hazelton has been paid by Carbir motorsport from what the reports detail. Where you race, and what series, does not make you a professional. If you PAY to race in the Indy 500, you are not professional. You are an amateur renting a car and a team. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RacerReporter1971 (talkcontribs) 02:31, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Being a professional doesn't automatically make him notable. The series he drives in isn't professional and his relationship with his team has no impact on his notability. The only way he is going to be considered notable here, as I see it, would be if he passes WP:GNG. Do you have examples of "significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources"? • I want to look a little more, but I am leaning keep on this one. His minor league career by itself does not seem to rise to meet notability, but he received significant coverage in at least one reliable source (one that is available on Google) as an amateur.[1] [2] [3]. That in itself is of course not enough, especially since it is one source, not multiple sources. And he has received some significant coverage for his post-baseball career [4], [5], [6] and small bits here and here. So I see him close to meeting WP:GNG without even counting his minor league career. And while the coverage a minor leaguer typically gets is not enough by itself to meet notability, he certainly would have gotten some coverage as a minor league player with some possibility of attaining the majors, and doesn't need much more coverage, if any, to meet WP:GNG. And it appears that he at least received some coverage in the 2006 Baseball America Prospect Handbook [7]. So I am thinking that he probably meets WP:GNG. Some of the previous keeps in that AfD cited CBPL as meeting baseball notability guideline, which I assume was the case back then in 2009, but CBPL is not currently in WP:NBASEBALL. Looks like it'll come down to whether WP:GNG is met.—Bagumba (talk) 07:24, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for picking up the old AfD (which I had nominated). I have added the link to the top of this page. I withdrew my nomination based on the CPBL, but as noted above that is not part of the revised baseball notability guidelines. --kelapstick(bainuu) 12:34, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I had thought CPBL was kept in NBASEBALL with MLB, NPB and KBO? – Muboshgu (talk) 14:49, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't involved in the discussion, but what is listed there now is:All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, American Association, Cuban League, Federal League, Japanese Baseball League, National Association of Professional Base Ball Players, Negro Major Leagues, Players' League, Union Association. --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:55, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, as part of that discussion, we decided to drop the CPBL as it was thought to be not of the same quality as the other leagues. It is interesting to note that he was actually called up to the Majors at one point, though he did not appear in a game. Spanneraol (talk) 16:55, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Being called up to the majors is a cool milestone, but the real question is whether the coverage of his career enough to satisfy WP:WHYN. Some players never get called up but have coverage, and some players could conceivably have been called up with little press.—Bagumba (talk) 00:02, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep - I'm going to take the same position that I did in the 2009 AfD. (In that AfD, I didn't base my opinion on his play for the CPBL, because I didn't view it as a top tier league.) My reasoning is that with 62 games pitched in AAA over three seasons, and with having been called up by the Dodgers (though not making it into a game), he is right on that boundary between those who made it into the majors and those who didn't. The article isn't long, but there are a couple of short, well-referenced paragraphs containing info that can't simply be culled from bb-ref. Once I regain my access to the LA Times archives (my access is temporarily cut off until I go renew my library card in person), I'll run a search to see if I can locate some other info that isn't available on the public web. I wouldn't be too disappointed if the decision is to delete, but I favor keeping the article. BRMo (talk) 02:30, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep, but only because he was once called up to the majors. Northern Antarctica 02:40, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment being called up to the majors has never (to my knowledge) been a criterion for notability per wp:athlete or the baseball specific guidelines, it has always been having played at least one game. --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:07, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think we all agree that being called up to the majors doesn't satisfy the criteria being "presumed notable" under WP:BASE/N, and we're discussing notability under the general notability guidelines. I think the fact that he was called up to the majors is one of the things we might consider in determining whether the player received enough coverage from reliable sources (including both the sources cited in the article and others that may not be available on the public web) to satisfy the general notability guideline. BRMo (talk) 17:27, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • Yes, I just wanted it stated what that criteria actually is. What are the sources that help pass the GNG? I generally don't consider MLB.com, or a teams website to classify as independent enough, and the Taipai Times is passing mention that he was playing. I can't read the Sports Illustrated article at this time, although the title doesn't reference him.--kelapstick(bainuu) 19:07, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
        • The articles on MLB.com are written by professional reporters and each article includes a note saying that they are not subject to approval by MLB or the teams. To me the coverage seems similar to what's available from newspaper sites (with the advantage that they don't lock their archives behind a pay wall), so I've always considered them to be reliable sources. BRMo (talk) 03:35, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
          • I don't question their reliability, I just don't consider them independent enough for establishing notability, as it is MLB posting articles about MLB or MiLB (irrespective of who actually wrote the article). That is just they way I view it, I know others have differing opinions. --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:19, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
            • For the record, I do view articles on MLB.com like they are essentially newspapers covering the team, but don't think that in this case, MLB.com offers anything more than trivial mentions. Go Phightins! 20:59, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Meh ... um - probably delete - While there are many articles, none are feature stories, as far as I can tell. For example, Building the Bavasi way features two sentences on him. Spring Training Notes mentions him amidst a list of other players, with no expounding upon the list whatsoever. Even Notes: Brown headed to DL comments very briefly on him; certainly not enough to establish GNG. To me, these seem like a bunch of trivial mentions, and since he never played in a league that would satisfy WP:BASEBALL/N, I cannot really in good faith support keeping the article. However, my vote to delete is rather weak. Go Phightins! 20:57, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete No evidence presented that WP:GNG is met. Specifically, WP:WHYN advises that we need significant coverage so a stand-alone article can be filled, and independent sources are needed for neutral coverage and evidence that non-affiliated sources find the subject significant enough to devote resources to cover. This article would likely be limited to simple promotion/demotion announcements through the minor league system and stats—not very encyclopedia IMO.—Bagumba (talk) 18:07, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

*Delete Has some sources but some are routine and only one seems to talk about him extensively, so in my opinion he doesn't pass WP:GNG. --Yankees10 21:31, 6 April 2014 (UTC) [reply]

I'm not gonna vote on this one. I don't think he passes GNG (I do believe he is very close), but the fact that he was a good prospect and was a AS Futures game selection and Cardinals MPOY, makes me not mind if the article is kept.--Yankees10 17:46, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All of that seems routine to me as coverage that hundreds of other minor leaguers get.--Yankees10 22:45, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Um ... hundreds of minor leaguers earn organizational minor league players of the year awards? Over the course of a decade, I suppose ... but hundreds of other minor league players are also notable, as there are hundreds of thousands who have played in the minor leagues over the years. Go Phightins! 22:53, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Considering winning the minor league player of the award for an organization is not a highlight that warrants automatic notability, using an article announcing the winner is routine coverage to me and shouldn't be used to pass GNG. Especially when its a press release from the teams official web site.--Yankees10 23:08, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
WP:GNG needs Wikipedia:Independent sources, so a team press release wouldn't qualify. Game summaries are usually consider WP:ROUTINE, but that one from Commercial Appeal talks about him more than game summary usually talks about the player of the game.—Bagumba (talk) 07:40, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I should have clarified; I included the Cardinals press release more as a note of an accomplishment (not necessarily one that confers automatic notability, but one that shows he's not the average minor league player) than a suggestion of a source to confer GNG. My mistake for not clarifying. The Commercial Appeal and the Yourhoustonnews.com, as I said, are the two that push it over the line ... admittedly barely. Go Phightins! 10:32, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep.. Seems to have enough sourcing to pass... plus his selection to the All-Star Futures Game and the Cardinals minor league player of the year makes him more than a run-of-the-mill minor leaguer. Spanneraol (talk) 17:24, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete If making the Futures Game or being named an organizational player of the year were inherently notable, they should be listed in the guidelines. They're not. Aside from those two things, which hardly generated significant coverage, the coverage of this subject was the routine coverage that just about any minor league player receives. - Bbny-wiki-editor (talk) 18:52, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can you find me a specific player with this sort of coverage who is not notable? Go Phightins! 20:00, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, considering several editors now have asserted that there are hundreds of other minor-leaguers who are not notable, and that "just about any other minor league player receives" the coverage Daryl Jones received (which I am not sure is true), I was wondering if there were minor league players whom people would deem non-notable that have received the same amount of coverage as Jones. Moreover, WP:OTHERSTUFF stipulates that one should not make an argument "solely because other articles do, or do not, exist". My question is whether Bbny-wiki-editor is asserting that this coverage is not sufficient because it does not meet WP:GNG, or because he finds it WP:ROUTINE. If the latter, than I would like to see other non-notable players with the same sort of ROUTINE coverage that he finds non-notable. In my opinion, the coverage Jones has received far exceeds that of most other minor league players, and thus surpasses WP:ROUTINE's stipulations. So pivoting away from my minor rambling here and to your point, Bagumba, I am not asking from a WP:OTHERSTUFF perspective, rather from a WP:ROUTINE perspective - if this coverage is truly routine, there should be a pile of other players who have won minor league player of the year awards and who have feature stories solely on them. Go Phightins! 01:08, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"My question is whether Bbny-wiki-editor is asserting that this coverage is not sufficient because it does not meet WP:GNG, or because he finds it WP:ROUTINE." Answer? Both. I don't believe a couple feature articles constitutes "significant coverage," unless maybe they're in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. - Bbny-wiki-editor (talk) 02:14, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, the first four sources (in this list) are routine (sports covering sports, local papers covering local sports). The one source that looks promising is not significant enough on its own (or with routine coverage) to pass the GNG.--kelapstick(bainuu) 02:12, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What about that last source you mention in tandem with the piece from The Commercial Appeal, another feature article? Go Phightins! 02:20, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly missed that one...going to look. --kelapstick(bainuu) 02:22, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think local sources should be called routine. Instead, the reason we require multiple sources is to show that there is more than just local interest; or in the case of major markets like LA or New York, it's multiple sources that consider something important.—Bagumba (talk) 02:25, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean this than (apart from I don't have highbeam and can't see the whole article) That is a Memphis newspaper reporting on a Memphas Redbirds game. Yes he is covered in the article but that is routine, the newspaper is reporting that he had a few good games in a row. What is yourhoustonnews.com? It doesn't look like a newspaper (i.e. reliable source). Regardless it is a "local boy does good" story (note the way it starts with "Spring High alumni Daryl Jones").--kelapstick(bainuu) 02:45, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As near as I can tell, yourhoustonnews.com is a conglomeration of coverage on a bunch of communities near, in, and around Houston. Go Phightins! 02:49, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The article mentions "Spring", apparently in reference to Spring, Texas, and it also has "The Observer" on top; note the bottom of http://www.yourhoustonnews.com has a link to "Spring Observer", while the top says "Houston Community Newspapers." So its presumably a local newspaper for Spring. Typically, I assume any decent athlete will have at least two significant sources: one from their hometown, another for their minor league or college town. It's usually why I usually interpret "multiple sources" as three or more.—Bagumba (talk) 03:12, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
yourhoustonnews.com is a website that links together several community newspapers from areas around Houston. The Observer is the Spring paper but the website has several other papers from different communities. Spanneraol (talk) 03:20, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So it is a local boy does good story from a local newspaper, in my mind, still routine. --kelapstick(bainuu) 03:24, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I found a few more sources that I added, including ones from mlb.com and rotowire that discuss him in more detail.. seems like more sources are out there since I found these fairly quickly but I dont have time to dig them up right now.Spanneraol (talk) 03:40, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A scouting report on Rotowire probably shouldn't count towards passing GNG.--Yankees10 03:57, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For that matter, MLB.com doesn't seem to be the most independent of sources for establishing notability.—Bagumba (talk) 09:55, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree; largely, MLB.com operates independently of its clubs (except for press releases, about which we are not talking - Spanneraol added a feature article), so when its editorial base authorizes a feature on a minor league player, it is not just your run of the mill guy with no chance of making the major leagues. • Delete No argument exists for notability as said notability relies on The Mighty Don't Kneel. This goes to WP:INHERIT. There is nothing in the article that proves notability of the individual. All his notable success has been with TMDK. This article should have been speedied IMO. 124.180.170.151 (talk) 05:31, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Half of Japan's top tag teams as recognized by an independent newspaper in Tokyo Sports. Has held the GHC Tag Team Championship, challenged for the GHC Heavyweight Championship and is consistently in featured matches for the promotion. WP:INHERIT works more for someone like Jonah Rock, who's the third member of TMDK and HE is not notable just because he's a member of the stable. Nicholls is the actual guy wrestling the matches, winning the titles and getting the praise. リボン・サルミネン (Ribbon Salminen) (talk) 10:40, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Leaning towards Keep - apparently Nicholls has won some singles championships as well, and had a shot at GHC's top title. Unless we're talking about a tag team of twins like the Usos or the Bella Twins, how many can you name where the tag team has an article but not the individual wrestlers? NOAH's a major promotion as well. starship.paint "YES!" 09:33, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The singles titles he has "won" are not notable. Referring to NOAH as a major promotion goes against WP:INHERIT. There are many tag teams where the individual members are not notable by themselves, unless they have done something notable by themselves. For instance you couldn't have done an article on either Shawn Michaels or Marty Jannetty prior to the break up in early 1992. It had to be the Rockers. Now of course both do stand up on their own because they have done notable things as individuals. 124.180.170.151 (talk) 10:58, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Japanese promotions don't just throw championship matches around, especially for their top singles titles, so getting one is kind of a big deal. Noah, again a top promotion, recognized Nicholls worthy of challenging for their top title and winning the tag title and this, along with the recognition from outside the promotion, makes him notable. リボン・サルミネン (Ribbon Salminen) (talk) 11:14, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
He is only recognized because of TMDK. Prove that he is recognized as an individual. Getting one title shot is NOT a big deal unless again you can show with sources how it is a big deal. Where's the blanket coverage putting him over as a threat? And if it's such a big deal, there should be coverage in English as an aside. I suggest you stop using TMDK's notability as a platform to debate this because yet again - notability is not inherited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.180.170.151 (talk) 12:05, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest you stop citing WP:INHERIT, when you don't seem to know what it means. He's not some TMDK flunky getting by just because his associates are superstars. You seem to think that everything he has done while teaming with Haste should be just left out, when discussing Nicholls' notability. That's ridiculous. And there is no English coverage for the simple reason that he's not American. リボン・サルミネン (Ribbon Salminen) (talk) 13:01, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep citing WP:INHERIT because it's a factor - a factor that you are totally ignoring. We have an aricle on TMDK. That's where that material goes and not here. NOAH has coverage in the US doesn't it? So why is there an issue with Nicholls not being American? Maybe it has nothing to do with it. Maybe it's to do with the fact that he is not notable. 124.180.170.151 (talk) 22:40, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
