Question,

Are Ips allowed to close RFCs? I think it is a yea but honestly, I'm a bit hesitant to just trust a close by an iP with "no questions asked". Starzoner (talk) 22:33, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

I've never heard of it being done. It's a bad idea for all the reasons that come to mind when you think about why it might be a bad idea. BD2412 T 22:37, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

My mind says,

1) lack of accountability

2) lack of credibility

3) did the person behind the ip address really give it some thought?

So, what should be done? Starzoner (talk) 23:49, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

You're welcome to dispute it, but the proper venue for proposing any move that might reasonably be contested is Wikipedia:Requested moves. As for the candidate status of the vaccines, there are examples that have been reported to work to some degree. A candidate vaccine is still a vaccine, though its qualities remain to be determined. I don't the rationale behind merging this article to model. It become clearly some editors including administrator doesn't want my contribution to Wikipedia but I must fulfill my promise of creating 200 articles before 2021. Draft: Georgiana Rodriguez is notable to be included on Wikipedia. I think I will stop editing the draft I'm doing for her Wikipedia page. [edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:21, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Judges who died in office

[edit]

Hi, I just had a clarification question. Does this category only include American judges or foreign judges as well? Snickers2686 (talk) 18:07, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

I have been including all judges, as long as they are part of some legal system (i.e., not purely religious). We may subcategorize later. BD2412 T 18:26, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
Should it include judges who died while serving in senior status, since such judges can still seek full time work? 73.110.217.186 (talk) 05:50, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
I have intentionally not been including them. When a judge takes senior status, their seat then becomes available for the appointment of another judge to their office. Senior status itself is a bit malleable; it can refer to a judge still hearing a fairly active caseload, but just as readily to a judge who is effectively retired from doing any real judicial work. WQ CU

[edit]

Sorry for posting here re WQ but it is easier for me. Are there any local CUs for the WQ project? If not, I am unsure how to deal with this, which seems like a duck to me. (The section titled Revertings.) - Sitush (talk) 06:35, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately we don't have any Checkusers. WMF policy requires a project to amass at least 25 votes for someone to become a CU, and it's rare to have a Wikiquote process top even a dozen participants. CU issues on Wikiquote are therefore directed to WMF Stewards. BD2412 T 06:44, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Reporting this apparent duck is going to be a nightmare on mobile! - Sitush (talk) 06:50, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Kalki is just very eccentric and very wordy. He is constantly insisting that he's very busy and won't be around for weeks on end, but then he'll get into a dispute where he'll write pages of grievances. He did have a fairly substantial sockpuppetry issue over ten years ago, but mostly he was using socks to dispense random acts of kindness. I would be surprised if he was doing that again at this juncture (although it is hardly inconceivable). BD2412 T 07:02, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, it is not Kalki whom I think is socking but rather Mina muka in that thread - a sock of the recently locked Vilho-Veli, who in turn is a sock of Luke Jedi Skywalker and various other accounts. I have left a note on meta at the talk page of Tks4fish. I really need to get back on to a proper screen and keyboard because this is v awkward for me, sorry. - Sitush (talk) 07:35, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Beyoncé Talk

[edit]

Hi! I pinged you three days ago on the Beyoncé talk page regarding a dispute involving one editor, isento. That editor, according to me and Bgkc4444, is being belligerent in their tone, and they've now opened an RfC when one was opened just three months ago in regards to the lead of the article. If there were one more RfC, it should for now only pertain to the infobox. Some editors may oppose to "songwriter" being in the lead but not the infobox. The way the question is formulated, it could lead editors to vote "No" for the infobox just because they'd vote "No" for the lead.

Update: isento is now being even more belligerent, editing my own edits and attack me in edit summaries. Is it okay for an editor to alter my own edit this way? [1] Israell (talk) 21:04, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

I have noted that this is improper on their user talk page. BD2412 T 02:33, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi! Thank you for helping Israell with this. The user in question (Isento) is also now calling me a "liar" on the Talk:Beyoncé page and writing to me sarcastically saying, and I quote: "I am overcome with immense guilt and profusely apologize for my abhorrent behavior. I should be punished. Perhaps a spanking is in order?" Isento has previously harrassed me over discussions on Beyonce's article, such as when he wrote on my talk page: "Don't ping me with your pseudoliberal horsehit, little girl. Do you know of any -ism I can throw at you for smattering your hypocritical, self-righteous condescension with fake manners and exclamation points?" I warned him about his incivility many times, and an administrator also gave him a final warning for a block regarding his incivility towards me. Is there anything I can do to make him stop? Thanks so much. Bgkc4444 (talk) 16:25, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Best approach for forks of deleted articles

[edit]

Hey there, hoping for your opinion here, if you don't mind. Kalakar Award for Best Actress and Kalakar Award for Best Actor are content forks of Kalakar Awards, which you deleted as the result of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kalakar Awards. Do you think this a speedy deletion situation under G8, "Pages dependent on a non-existent or deleted page"? That's what it feels like to me, but I like to be cautious in areas of deletion and the guidelines don't specifically mention content forks. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:24, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

I would call this G4, Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion. The Best Actor/Best Actress awards were part of the content that was deleted in the AfD. BD2412 T 00:54, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
The parent article was deleted in August 2020 after its August 2020 AFD. Those child articles were created in 2018. Am I misinterpreting what you mean? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:20, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I hadn't realized the forks were that old - I though they were being raised here as a new issue. The deleted article had listed Best Actress and Best Actor winners, which I would take as consensus to delete articles centered on that material from Wikipedia wherever they are found. I will not. The discussion was already relisted once and had been open for two full weeks. Anyone could have notified those WikiProjects at any time during this period. There is no requirement that proposed moves be publicized beyond their appearance at WP:RM, but a clearly deadlocked discussion should not be reopened merely because no one thought to do that during its extended pendency. I would suggest trying again in 2021. BD2412 T 15:59, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

[edit]

Hello BD2412,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

RSN / RfC: Sherdog.com Closure Mess

[edit]

Hello, an uninvolved editor named Buidhe closed Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_318#RfC:_Sherdog.com some time ago with the consensus for option 2 but somehow he used the explanation for option 3 in this [2]. That caused some confusion and then some editors in favour of option 1 complained about it here at User_talk:Buidhe#RFC_closure. Then Buidhe changed his closure 2 weeks later in this [3], again, and disregarded votes. He gave the explanation for why he changed the closure and disregarded votes 2 weeks later here at the complaint section User_talk:Buidhe#RFC_closure again. Apperantly he thought 5 options were confusing for editors who voted in the RfC and other editors perhaps voted for wrong options without knowing. So he didn't come to any straightforward conclusion and in the end the closure has become a mess that didn't close anything or reflect the consensus outcome of the RfC (or anything at all for one option or the other) although it was a pretty easy and short one with a rather clear rough consensus.

You closed the RfC on Mail on Sunday without any problem so it would be far better if an experienced administrator like you closed the RfC once and for all, and erase this mess the closing editor caused because it affects a lot of articles in the Wiki and cause edit wars that rely on that RfC. Thanks in advance.88.241.82.114 (talk) 11:53, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

I think the outcome is right, even if the process of getting there was somewhat sloppy. BD2412 T 21:25, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Regarding the articles showing the historical results by state, some of the states had a popular vote prior to 1824, but they don't seem to be listed in the articles.73.110.217.186 (talk) 20:37, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Turkish military forces in Cyprus

[edit]

Where was there any consensus? There was significant opposition to the move by a Sysop and a respected editor in the area. Also if you read the arguments, the google hits and other and the history about how the so-called Turkish peace forces came to Cyprus... Turkish military forces arrived in Cyprus over the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Turkey is not really known for supporting peace in their neighborhood, see Greek–Turkish relations Iraq–Turkey relations, Syria–Turkey relations, Armenia–Turkey relations or Turkish involvement in the Syrian civil war then the recent Turkish involvement in the Nagorno Karabakh war was also not really peaceful, with Erdogan praising Enver Pasha, one of the three main perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide and Nuri Killigil a prominent Nazi collaborator of Turkey. I thought that was a clear case. Could you elaborate on your reasoning? Thank you.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 07:36, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

You have not specified the discussion to which your comments relate. None of the links you have provided are for a discussion for which I assessed consensus. In any case, with respect to the discussion at Talk:Cyprus Turkish Peace Force Command, it was clearly articulated in the discussion that there are multiple entities that could be described as "Turkish military forces in Northern Cyprus", a situation that always yields potential confusion. US Congressional legislation

[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for your feedback on my PROD for An act to affirm the policy of the United States regarding Internet governance. I found a bunch of articles on Category:Proposed legislation of the 113th United States Congress and started handling them on a case-by-case basis, but it's becoming clear to me that my approach was too unwieldy, and we'll need a consensus that applies to the group of articles as a whole. I'll de-PROD the other articles I found and raise my concerns at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/H.R. 301 (113th Congress). Let me know if you have other suggestions. Thanks! Edge3 (talk) 16:26, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

I think some good ideas are developing in the deletion discussion. BD2412 T 17:29, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Hey, I noticed that ORES suggests this could be B or GA level! To me it does not seem that different form the ones it rated as C. Do you think this could be a B, or even worth pushing for a GA nom? Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 13:25, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
    • My focus has been on getting the list done first, with an eye to later going back and bringing some of the articles up to higher levels of quality. The first subject that I have my eye on for a GA run is actually Charles Erasmus Fenner, who led a rather illustrious life. BD2412 T 17:45, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

State senates

[edit]

Hi BD2412. Earlier today I noticed a string of edits (example: [4]) on my watchlist, in which you replaced the term US state senate with United States state senate per request. I'm curious as to why this replacement would be important - do you recall where this request was made? Thanks! Airbornemihir (talk) 12:41, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Off the top of my head I don't. Someone initially made that edit to one of the articles with a note that the term should be spelled out in the header, and I took that as a request for the rest of them. BD2412 T 16:41, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

AfD comments

[edit]

Hi, thank you for your comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Farewell (Rihanna song). Just wondering if you could also comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Red Hot Kinda Love, an AfD that has yet to reach a consensus. Many thanks, and I hope you have a happy new year, (talk) 15:24, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Instead of deleting the redirect as per its target's AfD, would it instead be plausible to redirect the page to List of Monstercat artists instead as a {{R to list entry}}, considering the artist is mentioned with source there? Jalen Folf (talk) 01:57, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

That sounds reasonable enough. BD2412 T 02:01, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
