Airport Infobox Migration Plugin[edit]

175 done tonight (about), leaving 2200 in my list...

Should only be a few nights work, probably done by the time your back from your holiday.

More bugs fixed, and its faster!

Reedy 23:06, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

1620 left (nearly 600 done today!) Reedy 21:03, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Done some more bug fixing/"hacking". Means less manual movement needed =). Worth the effort IMHO. Down to 1300 Reedy 23:10, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Less than 1000!! Reedy 13:48, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Around 680 now. Reedy 16:33, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

All done, and old templates deleted! Reedy 10:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Not the only one! Reedy 14:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Someone (Sunderland06 iirc) was going to help me on IRC, but didnt have chance to do more than 7 or 8... So i've done the best part of 2200... Heh Reedy 14:43, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Haha, yeah. Somehow i do! Reedy 15:02, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

RE: Newspapers[edit]

Thank you for replying on YK Time's behalf. Your message was of great help!

(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 23:47, 8 July 2008 (UTC))

Thanks also for the tip about possibly putting my book in the Gallery of the Midnight Sun. -YK Timestalk 23:53, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeater, do you happen to know the price for a newspaper (both NT and NU versions)? You seem VERY knowledgble about the North, so I've decided to ask you (to give YK Times a break).

(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 00:47, 11 July 2008 (UTC))

Thank you very much for your prompt answer again, CambridgeBayWeather! :-D
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 20:51, 12 July 2008 (UTC))
Bumped luggage as in lost or delayed? They have such problem in Yellowknife? I went to Mexico this past March, and the same thing happened. I had school the following day, but the bags came six days later. My teachers just excused my homework until the luggage (with my vacation homework and textbooks) came in.
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 15:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC))
That sucks with the delayed baggage, but at least you managed to get on the flight (and you actually got your luggage later). Canadian North is a great airline with friendly people (I talked to three of the senior management people for my Yellowknife Trip). It ends up that I'm not flying with Canadian North (due to some issues), but I wished I had. It seems very friendly and superb. By the way, I happened to read your user page (which was a very good scavenger hunt). How and why did you decide to move to Cambridge Bay, NU? Won't you rather live someplace more populated and dense?
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 17:53, 14 July 2008 (UTC))
I live in Orange, CA, which is a city of about 130,000 people an hour away from Los Angeles. My aunt lives in Yellowknife, but I can't imagine me having to live in the Canadian Arctic. Isn't everything like expensive (especially gasoline) and deserted?
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 16:02, 15 July 2008 (UTC))
Yeah. Everything is more expensive with the transportation costs. One good thing I heard was that the Northwest Territories paid 3% less on groceries than the rest of Canada. It's very scenic up in the North (I'll see for myself in December), but it requires adapting in order to live up there (something you have already done quite well). By the way, is there a bandwidth limit on internet up in Cambridge Bay (in Yellowknife, the average plan allows 10 GB a month). Here in Orange, CA, we have unlimited bandwidth (not trying to run it in your face or anything).
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 20:01, 15 July 2008 (UTC))
That's great to know. I'm just shocked how the major companies take advantage of you guys big time because you're such in an isolated, deserted place.
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 04:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC))
That is so ridiculous! "Outside" of Canada? They should get real. At least things changed since NU became a territory. By the way, when you sign messages, what does "Have a gorilla" supposed to mean?
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 17:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC))
Do you happen to know the cell phone provider(s) in Yellowknife? Verizon Wireless, my cell phone company in California, doesn't have any service throughout the Canadian North. I was wondering if they sell prepaid SIM cards for an unlocked cell phone (like they do in Vietnam). And yeah, I have never heard of BBC's The Goon Show ever before in my life.
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 21:34, 17 July 2008 (UTC))

Thank you. I'll look up the companies and see what they have to offer. By the way, this has always been in my head. How do the featured article (of the day) get chosen?

(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 03:11, 18 July 2008 (UTC))

Oh. I never knew such thing exists. Anyways, I'll leave you alone now and thanks for everything you have done for me. Take care!
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 15:32, 18 July 2008 (UTC))
I talked to Jenn at ICE Wireless, a recommended company from you, and they can help me since it's a non-contract based company. I unlocked my cell phone from T-Mobile this morning using codes and information online. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I did a TON of research and I never came upon ICE Wireless. You are such a great help!
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 21:44, 18 July 2008 (UTC))
Oh. I never knew Jenn was your daughter. I have to say that she is very kind, friendly, patient, and polite (hopefully she got those tratis from you). It will be my pleasure to meet her when I set up service for myself in Yellowknife. ;-)
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 14:47, 19 July 2008 (UTC))
If she got the traits all by her self, that is something you, as a father, should be very proud of.
(Rallybrendan2006 (talk) 02:46, 20 July 2008 (UTC))
No problem. ;-)

Removing content[edit]

Hey there... in going back and looking at the history logs of several pages I updated, it appears you removed most of the links I added. Just wondering why? To my mind, the Q&As I added have value and fall into the neutral category, but maybe I simply don't understand the criteria for what should remain on the pages and what shouldn't. Why are newspaper articles seemingly ok but original content from my website not? Anyway, I'd definitely appreciate any insight you can provide. Thanks.

Sorry, just read the top of your page -- some of the articles you removed my content from include Kat Von D, Maritime (band), Mike Park, LA Ink (tv series).

Hi CambridgeBay Weather -- I'm starting entries for Tookoolito and Ebierbing, and would be grateful if you'd stop by and have a look -- any corrections/changes/suggestions would be welcomed. In particular, Tookoolito was tagged with a Notability tag and if you agree it has met the criteria, I'd be grateful if you'd consider being the one to delete this tag. Cheers, Clevelander96 (talk) 15:50, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Our Barney friend again?[edit]

I noticed you restored the edits to the version before User:JohnLeoWalsh got to it. Based on that and his userpage, any thoughts on whether he might be User:Danieljuravsky, or possibly the guy who used to spam his soap-opera all over the refdesks??? Something about this user doesn't strike me right--the weird userpage, the Barney edits, the refusal to answer adds up to SOMETHING. Gladys J Cortez 20:34, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Survey request[edit]

I need your help. I am working on a research project at Boston College, studying creation of medical information on Wikipedia. You are being contacted, because you have been identified as an important contributor to one or more articles.

Would you will be willing to answer a few questions about your experience? We've done considerable background research, but we would also like to gather the insight of the actual editors. Details about the project can be found at the user page of the project leader, geraldckane. Survey questions can be found at geraldckane/medsurvey. Your privacy and confidentiality will be strictly protected!

The questions should only take a few minutes. I hope you will be willing to complete the survey, as we do value your insight. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Professor Kane if you have any questions.

Reverts of user's edits[edit]

Pardon the interruption, and for going around the system on this one, but this is a slightly odd vandalism case that you have at least a little background with. has made 75 or so edits mostly to kids' TV related articles, all of which seem to be subtle vandalism. You've reverted a number of his edits, including his last two. His modus operandi makes it difficult to get anyone over at WP:AIV to do anything (I've reported him at least three times, and the report has been allowed to go stale, or rejected with comments like "seems to have stopped") - he makes only a couple of edits at a time and then goes inactive for a day or so. The edits go back almost a month, so it's clear that he's got a static IP. If you've got a minute, please look into this a bit, and take whatever action you see fit. Thanks! Majorclanger (talk) 00:31, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that. Since I've got a real-live admin on the line, I'm got another long-term subtle vandal that seems to have the folks over at AIV flummoxed, which I can't figure out - this IP has been blocked four times, including a three month vacation that just expired. The guy is considerably more prolific that 174 above - the block expired about an hour ago and the IP has been used for eight edits - five of which are almost certainly misinformation, three of which aren't at clear cut. It's all pretty subtle (date changes and the like) and nobody monitoring AIV seems to want to do anything about it. So if you could take a look at the culprit -, I'd appreciated it. And I promise to leave you alone - the missus wants to watch a movie, so I'm being pulled away from my Wiki addiction for a while! Majorclanger (talk) 01:12, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Somali Clan[edit]

Hello, thanks for cleaning up after me! Please can you tell me where to find out how to move a discussion page? Redheylin (talk) 22:36, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Maybe I misunderstood. You write "I also moved the page over to preserve the editing history." I cannot find how to do that on the How to Merge instructions. By the way = no thanks, I just put one out. Redheylin (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, I fixed one redirect Somali clans but missed "tribes". I was following the "how to" rules, but it has been brought to my attention that histories can get lost. Am I meant to report it to the "fixes" page, or what? Redheylin (talk) 22:59, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your help once again. Redheylin (talk) 23:19, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I hate to say it but I really think the "Somali clan" article should have been merged and redirected to "Somali people." I'm basing my reasoning thusly: (Somali clan = Somali people) but (People in Somalia != Somali people). I've brought this up at Talk:Demographics of Somalia#Article merge. I really don't want to pull you into the discussion, but I am also concerned with the technical issue of un-merging the edit histories (if it's even possible). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Jose Fadul[edit]

Kindly refrain from thinking of deleting the article on Jose Fadul. Fadul may not be notable to some of you, but he is most certainly notable to us, alumni of Manila Science High School and of UP College of Education. His life is an inspiration to all those who have speech defects but have the spirit to excel and gain honor. I see no conflict of interest therein.PFlores3 (talk) 10:42, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I second the motion. Fadul was one of the few child prodigies recognized by the late Atty. Fernanda Balboa herself, the founder of Children's Museum and Library, Inc. (CMLI) MCLeander (talk) 10:49, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Jose Fadul is someone humble that I do not know well. It is good that a Wiki article on him was written, perhaps by himself or someone using his surname for his or her Wiki username, I don't know. Please do not delete that article.JDGloria (talk) 11:31, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Hoy!!! Sorry to cause the confusion guys. I'm User:Fadulj and was the one who created the article on Jose Fadul. I'm an American from San Diego, California vacationing in the Philippines. I was surprised to find a namesake, a Filipino Jose Fadul, whom I think and am glad to be notable, though we are not related (I'm of Lebanese descent). That is why I made a short Wiki article on him, after knowing what I thought were notable about him which I gathered from other websites. I didn't expect that other Wiki users would contribute to it, add so much to it, and even fight over it. Well, I don't care so much if the article on Jose Fadul gets deleted or not. As you see, if you Google you'll find at least three Jose A. Faduls all over the world who appear to be not related to each other. And there are other wikis other than Wikipedia. My apologies to PFlores3, MCLeander, JDGloria, and of course CambridgeBayWeather. Best,Fadulj (talk) 08:02, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Emirates Airline Subsidaries?[edit]

Hey CambridgeBayWeather, i just wanted to ask, do those subsidaries go in the Emirates Group article, or the Emirates Airline article. Because all those services, except for Emirates SkyCargo are run by Emirates Airline.(MoHasanie (talk) 21:14, 29 July 2008 (UTC)).

Category:Education in Yellowknife[edit]

Hey CambridgeBayWeather, I do agree with you on that point, though I had erred on the side of caution, using the "proper" name of the school for the article. At the paper, our standard is to drop the 'Ecole' except for the two French-only schools in the NWT (Ecole Boreale and Ecole Alain St-Cyr). If you feel comfortable moving them, I would support it (though I will be out of town and without an internet connection for the next two weeks). Cheers, and thanks for noticing. -YK Timestalk 03:06, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh[edit]

I have replied to your comments at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Thanks, Labcoat (talk) 11:15, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Cheers for the recent communication. Is there any chance you might be able to assist with the Prince Philip article dispute? We really need someone uninvolved with senior moderator status to intervene - I'm not sure what the process is. As things stand, I'm very unhappy with the way important words have been removed from that article. I also note from User:PrinceOfCanada's User page that he/she has admitted that they're "...a staunch Monarchist" which I feel should at the very least should be taken into account when considering the possible motivations for their edits on that page. Thanks very much in advance. Labcoat (talk) 02:01, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Hugh Loebner, Loebner Prize[edit]

Re: "Maverick" The term was applied to me by Dennis Duggan in his article "A Regular John, and Proud of It" as well as The Atlantic Monthly. These were in the pre-internet days, and adding links would be difficult. In fact, I do not believe that it was I who mentioned it. I actually contributed very little to the article, I did not start it, and have done very little editing of it. My major contribution was to correct my birth year - 1942, not 1941. Re: Conflict of Interest - Although mentioning Crown Industries in the articles is in my interest, it does not conflict with the interests of Wikipedia. I did not claim that Crown Industries was the best manufacturer of stanchions, etc." I merely mentioned my association with it. Re: Number of Patents - Why not search on my name. You will find the details of my patent information. I did not post all my patents to my website because (1) it would have been tedious to do so, and (2) some of them overlap - eg have terminal disclaimers, etc. One, for example, is a reissue. For what it's worth, I working on another at the present, and hope to have it approved in the fullness of time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Loebner (talkcontribs) 15:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Iqaluit - new heatvawe record[edit]

On 28.07.2008 i corrected the heat record of town "Iqaluit" for July from 25,8 °C to 26,8°C since the heat event happened lately, check here:

or here

Afterwards you changed back my correction due to unknown reason. Anyway, can you please reverse the feat back to 26,8 °C, since i really don't like seeing incorrect facts on wikipedia. To tell half a joke and half a truth, these incorrectnesses hurt my eyes :). Nunavut island page errors[edit]

Hi Cambridge Bay! How's it going? I've got a problem and thought maybe you could help. I created additional Nunavut island articles today:

User:Truthanado noticed, however, that the coords weren't working as he got Fastcgi Protocol Error messages. I used as my resource so I'm not sure why the coords aren't working. Any thoughts before I delete the coords from these articles? --Rosiestep (talk) 01:27, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into this. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:07, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
I fixed the first one Wollaston Islands (Nunavut)‎, issue/problem is a Coord with a "template" parameter (display=title, format=dms, name=, ...) without a "coordinates" parameter (region:, type:, scale:, source:, ...) which causes a "malformed" URL ending in "_".
See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates#Fastcgi error

LeheckaG (talk) 07:33, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

It would appear "obviously?" that someone made a change to ToolServer's geohack.php or another related ToolServer "script". I have not gotten into digging up who did what-when-where-how-why yet, for now I let WP:GEO know, posted a "workaround" there, and posted the response to Template talk:Coord. I am working on posting a response to Template talk:nrhp2 (so people are aware of a workaround, although there are probably a lot of other affected Geobox/Infobox and Coor(d) templates). Next will probably see what changed on ToolServer and get someone to revert or otherwise update it. LeheckaG (talk) 08:09, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
I am not sure who changed what-where-when-how-why on ToolServer (again) but Coords without a region: appear to be working, I tested [[Kaigosuiyat Islands‎]]. I am still going to try to follow up with finding out the "root cause" on ToolServer. LeheckaG (talk) 09:48, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

For the general discussion, see:

With regard to {{GeoGroupTemplate}} "Map of all coordinates" on Category: pages. I had been using it on "List of" article pages which contained coordinates, and GeoGroupTemplate was recently updated to retrieve "Live" coordinates from articles within a Category.

  • "Live": So far, in my experience "Live" means if you update articles, then the "Map of all coordinates" updates within an hour or two. Its author(s) indicate that it should update within minutes, but cite several reasons when/why that might not happen (see link above).
  • "Sub-categories": I know that it does work for articles containing coordinates within a Category: I am not sure whether, when, or how "deep" it goes through sub-Category tree?
  • I was walking through "Alaska-related" Category "trees" and I realize that I added it to some Canadian categories (where Categories either overlap or confusion between them) I was just following the Category "tree". I have found it useful for the Alaska-related Categories.
  • Besides the "technical" (ToolServer) issues with it sometimes not working (due to too many requests) - sometimes I have had to either refresh or try it a few times. GeoGroupTemplate generally works or there is something "wrong" with the underlying articles. I have been going through the (Alaska) Categories with the GeoGroupTemplate and updating the articles when I find "bad" coordinates or a problem (rather than removing the GeoGroupTemplate). If you encounter one or more Canadian categories with a coordinates problem, if you post a list, I can help go through them to fix the underlying problems in the articles. I will take a look at those you posted on my Talk page. LeheckaG (talk) 06:58, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
In response to your question, GeoGroupTemplate can go on either an article page (including a "List of ..." article) or a Category: page.
  • In the case of an article page (including "List of ..." articles). ToolServer.Org kmlexport script only looks for coordinates "within" a the corresponding article's page text (it does not go following WikiLinks to other related articles). So it only works when an article/page itself contains multiple coordinates, and not WikiLinks to other articles containing coordinates.
  • In contrast, on a Category: page GeoGroupTemplate looks for all coordinates contained within all articles within that Category: (from one of your replies - it apparently only goes "one level" deep - i.e. does not look through sub-categories? I am not sure - something I have not personally tested.)

LeheckaG (talk) 10:28, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Oops (about your Yukon airports "Russian" coordinates) Yes, Most of the Canada and the U.S. are "West" of Longitude 0 Greenwich England. In the Alaaka and Russian Aleutian / Bering Sea (Islands), there are a few coordinates which are farther West than Longitude 180 West, so are just under Longitude 180 East instead. I have run across several "odd" Alaska/Russian article coordinates where I am guessing the contributors copied from some "Russian" or other foreign language text and the degrees roughly "made sense" but the minutes were > 60 ? I am guessing the contributors misunderstood what they were reading. Likewise they had Latitude S instead of Latitude N (so several Alaska coordinates appeared in the South Pacific, I have found "bad" Alaskan coordinates either there or around Africa).
The "Fastcgi Protocol Error" is apparently an "inter-server performance" issue with (2) or more of the ToolServers. When "region:" is not supplied with an accurate/valid ISO 3166-1 (and preferrably -2, for instance CA-NU), then geohack ends up doing a region query to another server which takes too long, and the first server "times out" (i.e. expects a reply within ... seconds, when that did not happen an "alarm" terminates the query) and generates the error message. The moral of the story/workaround is to supply region:CA (or region:CA-NU ... if known) whenever possible. Someone submitted an appropriate bug report and is looking into the server performance issues. Details on the WP:GEO discussion/talk I posted. LeheckaG (talk) 11:07, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

are you even supposed to protect pages without reaching consensus on an AN/I board? All I'm trying to do is put up this notice for Yamla, a good friend of my registered counterpart, so people don't continue to reach him. He isn't logging in, so he can't do it himself.

Moreover, this is no business of yours. I'm not vandalizing, and you're not supposed to arbitrarily undo changes unless I'm either vandalizing, or the statement is blatantly wrong. Neither of these are true.

Finally, and most importantly, it's no business of yours. Please focus your efforts on trying to improve wikipedia, and not just censoring other's comments. I realize anonymous IP's edits are suspect, and we're treated like second-class citizens, but that DOESN'T mean you have the right to interrupt the community side of wikipedia by constantly editing my communication with Yamla. If Yamla doesn't like my edits, then he'd revert them. This is between me and him. I don't understand why you're getting involved at all, unless it's to get your edit-count up or something. My edits are clearly not a problem, are not factually incorrect, defamatory, or otherwise vandalism in any way. Focus your efforts on improving wikipedia ARTICLES, instead of sabotaging communication on community pages. (talk) 16:52, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I just deleted a paragraph from the white tiger article because it consisted of a number of statements which I doubt are true i.e. that tigers in the wild don't breed with close relatives (It's far more likely that they do) and that most white tiger cubs born in the wild would'nt have survived to adulthood, and if they did would have had difficulty surviving. All of the evidence shows that white tigers had no difficulty surviving in the wild. It looks okay to me from a WP:NPOV perspective, but it almost doesn't make sense to even have it there at all unless we give a bit more detail about what the violation actually entailed. I understand the caution around WP:BLP, but as long as it's properly sourced to the media coverage and doesn't get too far out of proportion to the size of the rest of the article, it's perfectly okay to give at least a brief summary of what he did, allegedly or otherwise, that constituted an integrity violation. Deleted page: Dr. Whisky -- notability does exist[edit]

Hi there -- you deleted a page I had created on Dr. Whisky. The thing that wasn't on the page (but should have been) is that Dr. Whisky was the first writer on the subject to bring Scotch to an ordinary person; other Scotch writers educate the connoisseurs but this guy is so good at making Scotch accessible to the average person that he won the first consumer choice award (with 45% of the votes) for Best New Non-Whisky Product. It's quite a feat to win an award for a new product in the Scotch whisky world without actually having a whisky.

What I notice is not on the main Scotch Whisky page (but probably should be) is the increasing popularity of single malts for lots of amateur enthusiasts, much like good wine became accessible to an average North American in the 1980s. It may not be visible to you yet, but I think this guy is leading a trend in terms of hosted whisky tastings that will become quite a thing in the next few years. The other thing I find notable personally, but probably isn't wiki-worthy, is that he's written tastings on over 300 whiskies in the last year and a half... he's seriously prolific.

Anyways, if you could let me know what you think, that would be great. Thanks.

Race and ethnicity in the United States Census[edit]

The standard pattern for demographics section is to link to the same article, Race and ethnicity in the United States Census, or to redirects to that article. Because the Census Bureau's definitions of race and ethnicity might differ from other people's, it's important to link there so as to explain the classification of people of certain backgrounds: for example, Arabs are included as White by the Census Bureau, although I'd guess that many people wouldn't really see Arabs as whites, and the idea of being Hispanic (to many people) conflicts with the idea of being white, even though the statistics produced by the Census Bureau don't have a conflict: for example, see Fort Hancock, Texas, where 94.51% of the residents were white and 90.83% were Hispanic or Latino. In short: we have to use the Census link to explain Census criteria. Nyttend (talk) 00:21, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Having links for all of them is the standard format for these articles: historically, there were separate articles for each race, but they were merged into a single article. Anyway, as the reader might expect them to be separate articles, it helps to link all of them: it's not as if the same word is being linked multiple times. East Africa[edit]

Hi Cambridge. There's a bit of a problem over at East Africa. An anonymous editor is constantly reverting the page to a version of the article that contains sources which do not support his assertions. Specifically, he wants to include the North African nation of Egypt as one of the countries in East Africa, although the UN geoscheme that is observed on all the geographical pages on Wikipedia doesn't even include it in its expansive "Eastern Africa" region. He seems to think that this source supports his inclusion of Egypt, when I've clearly explained to him that it only states that Egypt is "situated in the Northeastern corner of Africa" and not East Africa. He is also under the impression that this other source supports his inclusion of Egypt, even though all the source does is mention the fact that Egypt was among ten countries in Africa that signed up for a development project, a project aimed at helping "East African and Riparian Nile countries" (where Egypt obviously represents the latter and not the former). He has also gone over the 3RR rule two days in a row, and is quite belligerent (engaging in name-calling, belittling comments, aggressive talk, etc.) when I have never said anything mean or cruel to him. I honestly have no idea what this chap's problem is, but he is definitely not amenable to reason, cooperation or compromise. He has just reverted the page once again instead of finding reliable sources like I've politely asked him to. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Can you please intervene? Hi Cambridge. The protection template you put on the East Africa page has expired and as expected, the anonymous IP immediately reverted the entire text without even so much as once making an attempt to discuss the issue as you have recommended. I've restored the article including the failed verification tag for Egypt that he conveniently removed. Please keep an eye on the page in case he returns. I noticed your deletion of the proposal of removing ' Northland state '. I find it very unfortunate you claim no reasons where given. When I [b]clearly[b] wrote explanation below.

The whole Northland and Maakhir thing is very unsure neither of the regions have been verified by objective sources. You cannot rely on biased petty private websites in Maakhir article. And absolutely No what so ever proof or source to Northland state.

I am going to recommend removal of both Maakhir and Northland. Untill you can find reliable proof do not attempt to remove the sign. Or I will report you for vandalism.

It's often a fine balancing act to say things that are factual (as evidenced by the cite) but without repeating their exact wording, and not even paraphrasing it. Sometimes saying it any other way is a counter-productive move, and amounts to change for the sake of change. The better written and more comprehensive and more accurate the cite, the worse the problem is, which is a paradox. But I added in some extra info from other sources (mainly in the list of works), so I hope it's going to be OK now. Btw, I haven't seen you hanging around the Ref desks lately. Well, for quite a long time, actually. Are you still a secret voyeur of what goes on there, or have you cut your ties completely? Cheers. -- JackofOz (talk) 23:14, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Oldest buildings in Canada by province or territory...[edit]

Hello, I stumbled onto Oldest buildings in Canada by province or territory and this article is completely FUBAR'ed it seems. You appear to be the last person to have taken an interest in it. Could you please respond to my question on the talk page for it? Thanks! CSZero (talk) 23:00, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there,

I noticed you deleted the wikipedia entry I created for my band (Boothacre) and I was wondering why you deleted it?

If you could shed some light on this subject that would be great as I do not wish for my page to be deleted time and time again.

Is there a way I can protect it from deletion?

Re: Boothacre[edit]

Hi there,

Thanks for the speedy response.

Would I be right in assuming that if I have a different username to that of my band it shall not be deleted?

I basically wanted to start the page and let others elaborate on the details etc and contribute to the article.

I'd love to get the pages moved but a) they're already redirects, so I can't move them (not being an admin) & b) there's evidently WP guideline preferring an irrational use of capitals, which I see no hope of changing. TREKphiler hit me ♠ 15:08, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Please Reconsider your Deletion of my Live on Arrival Wikipedia Page[edit]

I was just wondering if you could reconsider deleting my page, i just want to put some good information out there about this band. The major problem seems to be that I lack, "reliable sources." I must say that it is incredibly hard, if not impossible to get reliable sources for this page. Please give me a shot at posting this page so I can get the word out and let people know about this musical group. People need choices and the freedom to access information.

Michael Rault[edit]

I would like you to keep the page I wrote for Michael Rault. I read your guidelines and I do not understand why the page keeps being deleted. (talk) 04:51, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

OK I see that you are part of the school project. The problem is that the articles you and the others are posting don't meet the criteria set out at Wikipedia:Notability (music). The band/artist must have some way of proving why they are notable. There has to be some source other than what the band/artist is saying about themselves. You might want to get the person who set this assignment to read the notability link and Wikipedia:School and university projects. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 05:03, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

My class has a wiki article assignment due tomorrow, which I assume would be the reason for this. Or maybe because edmonton is a hot bed of local bands. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Msross1 (talkcontribs) 04:56, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: You Magnificent Bastards Wikipedia Page[edit]

I try to upload a Wikipedia on a very unknown Canadian duo that has been performing covers on youtube and on facebook. There is a notable musician in the group and I linked to his other projects but, still nothing. This is a project for school and I am very unfamiliar with how to do Wikipedia articles. I need this to be up for school and I do not feel that I infringed on any copyrights, all I did was tell the story of this group and give a background on the covers they have performed, the groups they have performed with and the direction they are going. I am asking for a reversal on the decision or at least a temporary allowance so that my professor can view it publicly. Anything would help here...

Not it's not up to me per se. I'm just following the guidelines. The idea is not to use Wikipedia to increase/advertise/promote anything but to document that which is alread notable. Others have also deleted some of the others and various comments have been left at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Music night in Edmonton. As to other articles being on Wikipedia that are no more notable than the ones your project created you might want to see Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#What about article x?. While your teacher does not have to contact me it would be useful if they did or left some comment at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Music night in Edmonton. Thanks. Spurn Lightship[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have changed the co-ordinates for this, but now on streetmap, which I used to locate it, the location is west and slightly north of where it should be. The ship is located near to Humber Dock Street not at the road off Castle Street that goes to south of Trinity Burial ground. Is there a a problem with the different mapping sites or the conversions that may account for this problem? Keith D (talk) 21:58, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Articles copied from textbook[edit]

I know the articles were copied from a textbook because I was the one who contributed the articles in the first place. The textbooks in question are:

固体の電子論 (kotai no denshiron) ISBN: 4-621-04135-5

場の量子論 (ba no ryoushiron) ISBN: 4-7853-2212-8 —Preceding unsigned comment added by ButsuriDaisukii (talkcontribs) 06:52, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

That's right. I am unable to edit from the Mattopia account. (Apparently, raising the issue of copyright infringement is enough to get a person banned). However, that is irrelevent. The contributed material is all taken directly from a textbook. There is no point editing it to change the wording (which would constitute creating a derivative work), and delaying the deletion would just extend the amount of copyright infringement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ButsuriDaisukii (talkcontribs) 07:03, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

So typical of Wikipedia. If you can't find it on the Internet then you believe it doesn't exist. Maybe Wikipedia should be renamed "the collected knowledge of Google".

Anyway, here are the photos of two of the books in question. There are more books to upload, but these are the ones in relation to charge transfer insulators, mott insulators, the hubbard model, electron correlation and a few other topics.

It has nothing to do with it being only available on th net. Anyway, stop creating accounts which will only get blocked and follow the instructions I left at ButsuriDaisukii. Also leave any comments there and I will see them. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 07:32, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps you are a child or have no understanding of responsibility. In that case, simply forward these pictures to your lawyer. The work is clearly copyright and must be removed from Wikipedia. Simply censoring anyone who attempts to point out copyright infringements is not the answer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IDontWantToHereNoCriticism (talkcontribs) 07:43, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: WMD Commission page deletion[edit]

I'm writing in response to your deletion of the WMD Commission page:

Basically, you stated that the reason the page was deleted was because it violated copyright. You provided the following link to indicate that-- . I'm unsure of the extent to which the wording of the WMD Commission page may have strongly followed that of the article posted on Space Daily, but I think that this page should be reinstated.

I think that perhaps the source of this confusion comes from the fact that the Space Daily article was based on (or copied from) information from the news of the official press release. So the article didn't source that it was ultimately derived from official news of the WMD Commission's creation.

Because the news of the WMD Commission was reported by the House, such information is public domain. If the wording is too close to that of the Space Daily item, it seems reasonable that the wording can be changed. But the page should be reinstated.

I freely acknowledge that I am not a disinterested party--I am an employee of the WMD Commission. But I think that restoring the article is the right decision, based upon the aims of Wikipedia.

Thank you for your time.

deleted article: Amy Fleisher[edit]

Hello there!

I posted an article about myself (lame, I know) last night and it was deleted by you. I completely understand if i am non-existent in your world and by no means are my feelings hurt :), but there are few pages on wiki that have my name in them, and I thought it would be OK to have a page for myself. If you need to check that I am a real person search for: Fiddler Records, that was my company. There are several articles sited under that wiki that are all about me. Hope this clears things up :)

Re: {{Nunavut-geo-stub}}[edit]

Hi CBW - hope you're keeping warm as winter approaches! Either wording is fine - as long as it stresses that it's for locations. If you want to make them all uniform then perhaps "This X location article" is a little smoother on the eye, but it makes little odds either way. Grutness...wha? 22:58, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Mmmm. Misunderstood your question, sorry. Yup - I've changed them over. There are probably quite a number of geo-stubs that were worded like that before it became obvious thatthey were being used for more than just places. Grutness...wha? 23:15, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Reply for Lithoderm[edit]

I believe that the Inuit artists category should be restricted to visual artists. There is also a category for Inuit musicians, which she is already in. Category:Inuit artists is a subcategory of the main Category:Artists, which quite clearly says that it is for artists in the visual arts.

I won't be on wikipedia for a while, maybe not for a long time. I was obsessed, and it was eating time that I did not have to spend, or should've spent elsewhere. I'm tired, literally tired, of being late to classes and staying up through the night to finish assignments-only to still be drawn the computer, against all better reason. I've changed my password to something I can't remember. I hope that sometime in the future I will attain the maturity to balance this project with my other obligations. Thank you for your help in my time here........... (talk) 19:37, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

uukłiblugu instead of uuk&iblugu

wanted to follow up with you on the article that was deleted - Az_khaneh_ta_goor(Album). Thanks for replying back by the way, I noticed your comments on my talk page, It think I got confused as to what had happened!!

So here is where the article is , I reviewed many albums pages over the past couple of weeks to get a sense of "what an acceptable album template would be" but I can't understand why you marked this one as G11, blatant advertising as detailed below

"Blatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote some entity and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic. Note that simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion."

I'm simply stating the facts about this album, similar to many other album pages, not pushing anything, didn't say people should buy it or that its the best album out there or anything. Here are some album samples out there:

1- 2- 3)

Let me know what your thoughts are and I'll work on this article more so the issues are resolved.
