Hey there[edit]

I appreciate your contributions around Wikipedia, but your recent edit to Bullying was mostly a repetition of information that already appeared in the previous paragraph. It also used a Wikipedia article as a reference - Wikipedia articles cannot be used as references for other Wikipedia articles, since Wikipedia is a tertiary user-edited site. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 22:11, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed someone else blanked your talkpage? I've never seen an editor blanks someone else's talk page... Shearonink (talk) 22:17, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) It's considered bad practice. Although, I do find it a lot more beneficial if you archive old discussions even if the talk page isn't that long, but it's almost always up to the user to manage their user talk pages. Here is the diff of the page right before the blanking. RAIDEN can add the content back in if she wants. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 00:32, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay, guys. I am not really going to be on Wikipedia anymore. Once in awhile I will. But its ok if someone blanked my talk page. There was some IMPORTANT information, but it's okay. DEIDRA C. (talk) 18:07, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can click on this page's View history tab up at the top, then click on the "cur" (for current) and "prev" (for previous) buttons on the edit-history page's left - and look at old notices and posts. The deleted content could easily be restored to visibility if you like (don't you know that Wikipedia *never* throws anything away?...I think it has a hoarding problem ). See you around, Shearonink (talk) 19:57, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lol! Thank you so much! DEIDRA C. (talk) 17:40, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Captions[edit]

Hey! Welcome to Wikipedia! You mentioned that you want to post pictures here with captions. First, what article are you trying to add a picture to? If you want to give a link, follow this: [[name of page on Wikipedia|what text you want everyone to see]] like this.

Second, I need to know if the picture you want to add to the page is already uploaded on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. To check that, type the name of it into the search box at the top right of your screen. If it is uploaded already, please post a link just like you did above.

Third, I need to know what you mean by caption. Do you mean a caption in the picture box that always stays with the picture, one that is in the text, or another type of caption? If you could provide a description it would be helpful.

To reply, click on edit at the top right of this section. Then add your comment below where it says to.

Thanks for helping Wikipedia!

Adoption request[edit]

Hey there, and thanks for writing me. I'm actually out and about on a coaster vacation at the moment; just spent two days touring Six Flags Magic Mountain, and getting ready to visit Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland in the next couple of days. I would be glad to review your request very soon after I get back home and resume a normal schedule. In the meantime, could you give me some ideas of what types of contributions you'd like to make to the various gaming and amusement park articles here? There's no wrong answer to this ... any positive contribution, no matter how small you think it might be, is a good and important one. --McDoobAU93 01:32, 7 October 2012 (UTC) Thank you. Thank you both. I will need just a little list with some ideas you have for your culture. Also- since I'm new; I'll need some assisstance. I just want to make little posts about celebrating different cultures. If one of you is an expierienced Wikipedian, I will need your help for the posts! Thanks guys! DEIDRA C. (talk) 22:57, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Deidra. Just a suggestion. You really should not have deleted the other two editors that were unwilling to participate in your project. It is not proper ettiquette. you should return their entries ASAP. You really need to slow down and take the time to learn some basic tasks around here. I am not a hand-holder and I am very busy in RL (Real Life) so don't think I am volunteering for the job. You still have a learners permit and you want to go 80 miles an hour on the Wikipedia expressway. Check out the edit pages behind Users talk pages and investigate the mechanics of how the Wikipedia Machine works. Good luck. ```Buster Seven Talk 04:02, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning Deidra, I am sorry that you were unwell – trust you are okay today. Noticed your ammendment to your posting on my page yesterday evening, but not clear about your "list" – please, you need to explain, maybe by giving me a few examples first. -- Gareth Griffith-Jones/GG-J's Talk 09:45, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Deidra. Having visited User:Griffith-Jones talk page, I also wonder how you decided on which editors to canvas for your project. Not that it matters, I'm just curious by nature. I hope your self-eduction is preceeding at a steady pace. Using the edit page to see how other editors do things is a valuable tool. Sometimes its easier to "see" how something is done instead of trying to figure out the confusing directions. Good luck. ```Buster Seven Talk 11:41, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Local History

I live in a village in northern New Mexico, USA. This part of the world has been the end of the line since the Spanish colonized Mexico. The settlers out here were a buffer between "civilized" Spanish Mexico and the "uncivilized" rest of North America. A Spanish governor got annoyed at the pueblos and cut the right foot off all the men in one place. 400 years later a statue of him was erected and someone went and cut its right foot off. In 1680 the Pueblos rose up under the leadership of Popé, born about 15 miles from here, killed all the priests that they could and drove the Spanish out. That lasted a dozen years. Then the settled and soldiers and priests returned.

But they were still on the wild, untamed frontier. In 1837, by that time New Mexico was no longer a Spanish colony, it was a distant, unruly part of Mexico, the new governor decided to try something new on the population, TAXES. The populace responded with the Revolt of 1837, killed the governor and played football with his head. A decade later the American Army arrived and the place became part of the United States. They put a governor, Charles Bent in place and he, along with a pretty good sized group were massacred in nearby Taos, leading to the Taos Revolt of 1848. The Battle of Embudo Pass happened a few miles from here. Another decade passed before the Apaches gave the US Army its worst drubbing from that tribe at the Battle of Cieneguilla, a few miles away in another direction. A century later the hippie invasion occurred - young Anglos disenchanted with the Haight-Ashbury and California scene moved out here and many stayed.

A few decades after that retired Anglos started to move in, though the county is still 75% Hispanic, 13% Native and 12% Anglo. Spanish is widely spoken, not because the speakers arrived here from Mexico but because they spoke Spanish before tha Americans arrived and still do.

Food here comes from the local food co-op the only grocery store for many miles in any direction or, this time of year, is grown locally. Fruit orchards are everywhere and there are several vineyards. A local brewery makes a variety of excellent beers. Grocery shopping is frequently done by driving into taos or Santa Fe every week or two. Many people in town serve several functions, I am the village librarian as well as a member of the Pathetics, the town's favorite rock & roll band and well as being a DJ on KLDK, the local community radio station. Cell phone mostly don't work here and a lot of folks here (such as me) gave up their TVs many years ago.

This still is a place where folks do their own thing, and try not to bug the neighbors too much. There are a large (or so it seems to me) number of out gay couples in the Anglo community. Annual events such as the Fiesta de Santa Rosa and the Hippie vs Indians softball game (played every year sine, I thing, 1969) draw large crowds. Well, that's a start. Advice[edit]

Okay, I will try this one last time. I like having a variety of editors here at Wikipedia. However, those who don't fully understand Wikipedia policies should accept advice from those who do. My earlier comment was to help you get your point across in a way that would not make you subject to a possible ban. If you continue using caps (which is akin to shouting), or making comments meant to intimidate other editors, or to make them feel bad, you may be subject to further action on the parts of the experienced editors of this community. As of now, I have not given you an official "warning" for any of these things, as I am assuming good faith. However, after you continued to put those messages up, and removed my gentle reminder about policies such as WP:civil and WP:Personal, I decided that this would be my last try to make sure you are aware of these policies. Please take a good look over these policies, as well as the policies on WikiProjects before further commenting or editing.

On another subject, it's generally not looked well upon to remove comments from your talk pages completely. It is acceptable, however, to archive the comments to pages under your talk page. For an example of this, look at my talk page. Although all editors can still see the comments in the history of your page, it's nice to be able to just click a link and see all of the old comments without searching through the history. Also, I'd like to point out that you removing the comments made earlier by me and others does not remove them from the internet. I found it again in a few seconds here, and all editors can do so, especially those who are trying to talk to you about this subject. Removal of notices from your talk page does not reset the counter to 0. It just means that people will have to look harder for the old ones, and may be tempted to raise the level more because of it. (Note: If you delete this message, every editor will still be able to see it in the history, just like the one above).

Again, don't take this the wrong way. I don't want you getting in trouble with other editors just because you are trying to do what you feel is right. I applaud you for being WP:BOLD and trying to organize this the best you can.

Ok. Do you want me to tell you why I'm really upset? DEIDRA C. (talk) 00:03, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you can do it in a calm, rational way while following all of the advice other editors and I have given you, then please go right ahead, and I will try to help. Also, when replying to messages, it's common to stagger the responses indents by adding an increasing number of colons : to increase the indent. Please try to remain calm when explaining yourself though. gwickwire | Leave a message 00:05, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. I will. I know all of you are just trying to help, but that's the problem. When I don't understand something, people tell me what I did, but they end up making matters worse. What I want Wikipedians who like to help people to do is, "explain". They don't explain the problem and what I can do to fix it; they just get all up in my face whenever I try to fix it by myself. They never explain the main points and I get confused, and it brings my hopes down. People on Wiki. have tried to help, and sometimes they're "over explaining" it with all the policies. Sometimes when people "over explain", they don't understand that "over explaining" may lead to "no explaining". Do you get what I'm saying? It's that people need to explain more flexiblely and complex. Or just plain simple, or even use bullet points to explain instruction. It needs to be more easier to understand. I am really tired of all the policy links. Yes, I have read them, but I don't really understand or care to really read them when I know that I have helpful Wikipedians to explain "simply". Do you get what I'm trying to say? You might not. I'm sorry for the shouting, also. I've had a horrible day. Went to the doctor and they had to put a mask on me to breathe and I'm coughing horribly. I'm sorry, I really am. I'm just not in the mood to be tossed around. Getting back on topic- I hope you understand what I mean. DEIDRA C. (talk) 00:16, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Something simple. At the beginning of your reply above you could have used three of these. : That would have indented your response to where mine started, making it easier to follow who is saying what. As it is it is difficult to tell where gwickwire stops and you start. I hope you understand what I mean. Carptrash (talk) 00:23, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)First of all, I do apologize about the medical issues, as those cannot be fun at all. In order to help you, I'll go ahead and make some bullet lists of things you should think about:
  • No caps or mean language (you've fixed this everywhere, but not your signature)
  • Look for an already existant WikiProject to start with
  • Instead of mass posting to recruit editors, look through the contributions for someone who has made a lot of quality edits to the articles in question, then post an inquiry as to whether or not he'd be interested on his talk page.
  • Try to keep all of your discussion short, and to the point (although one sentence about your medical issues is not bad, as it has a meaning in your explanation)
  • Don't feel bad to ask for help here, my talk page, or at WP:Teahouse.
I hope all of this makes sense, and again, don't take it the wrong way. Based on what I've read (you being interested in cultures), maybe you'd like to try WP:Culture if you're interested in things like museums and libraries, or maybe the WikiProject Directory if that's not your fancy. Thanks! gwickwire | Leave a message 00:30, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wait? Is there anything wrong with this username? DEIDRA C. (talk) 00:32, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, the caps can be confusing sometimes though. So maybe Deidra C. would be better. Also, Talkback :) gwickwire | Leave a message 00:38, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also- It's not going to be a WikiProject anymore. Just a little celebration of cultures. Just some little exciting thing that everybody can participate in. If you want to contribute, you can. Just lleave a reply under the section-Volunteers. It is a yes or no. Thanks for your help. DEIDRA C. (talk) 00:44, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have to go finish homework. I will reply to you tomorrow evening. Please leave a message! Thank you! DEIDRA C. (talk) 00:48, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
When making a talkback, put ==Talkback== first (this makes the section header) then below that (on a new line) put the {{subst:talkback|User_talk:RAIDENRULES123}} message. That makes it work properly. gwickwire | Leave a message 00:53, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I hope you don't mind me barging in, but I was just passing by and noticed the above discussion. I just wanted to say that your statement above really struck a chord with me, because I have long felt that wiki-policy is far too long, difficult, and overly-complicated for the average person to follow. In fact, I liked your statement so much that I used it as my "quote of the day" on my user page (which is usually reserved for famous thinkers like Einstein, Lister, or Metallica). I hope you don't mind, because I could not have summed up the problems with wiki-policy any better if I tried.
If it helps clarify what everyone else here is talking about, using all-capitals is the written version of SCREAMING AS LOUD AS YOU CAN, and no one likes to be screamed at. (Bolding, on the other hand, is more like shouting, which is not great but better than screaming.) Using all-caps will almost always get things started off on the wrong foot. Of course, how you sign your name is entirely up to you. I hope that helps, and I sincerely hope your day gets better. Zaereth (talk) 01:24, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That is absolutely ok with me! :-) DEIDRA C. (talk) 01:19, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your feedback[edit]

I've been following your interactions with other editors, and I can appreciate your frustration about being shown a policy or guideline article when you make a mistake. They're not always easy to read and it's sometimes tough to understand what you did wrong from them. It can be more helpful if an editor actually explains what the problem is more directly, and we often learn better that way.

That said, I think a lot of people have been genuinely helpful to you. Many of your questions have been answered in a polite and direct manner, and others have contributed to your project that you are doing. In addition, while I think you should continue asking questions as you need to, you should also try to meet us halfway in understanding Wikipedia. You need to work to try learning from your experiences and mistakes, as all of us had to. Some mistakes are OK to make as a new editor, and I don't think any that you've made have been all that bad. You should also make an earnest effort to read the guideline pages suggested by other readers when they're important for what you are doing. I think a lot of policies are actually written very well, like WP:BURO and WP:NOTCOMPULSORY.

And speaking of that second policy, you should know that all the editors who help you are volunteers. It's OK to ask for help, but please do your best to help yourself understand as well as you get more familiar with Wikipedia.

I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 09:15, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thank you so much. Finally someone who understands what kind of help I need. Thank you. People need to explain more. Also-yes. Policies are very difficult to read and they use a lot of big

words. Most of it I don't understand. But at least you get me. Many people have offered to help, but don't quite get it. They either tell me to read policies, guidelines, or they just explain in difficult ways and they don't tell me how to fix my problem. I really appreciate their help, but they don't understand that I don't know much about Wiki. yet. I usually don't know who to turn to for help. It's quite difficult. Once in a blue moon people will tell me exactly what to type. Those are the best types of Wikipedians. The ones who take some time to explain to the newbies. Also- thankyou Jethrobot for all your help. DEIDRA C. (talk) 01:16, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Plain and simple versions[edit]

A number of editors are trying to help by writing Plain and Simple versions of our policies, such as Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide and Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and of course the main Wikipedia:Plain and simple guide. Maybe those would be more in line with your ability. Good Luck ```Buster Seven Talk 16:44, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is a place to be creative, so play your best note.

Caps[edit]

Some of you kind of yell at me for using CAPS. Well, you see, I have never ever used CAPS to yell or scream at someone. Never. I like using CAPS to point out stuff that I want you to pay attention to. That's the only thing that I do. I'm sorry if some of you take it the wrong way. I don't want to scream at anyone, I'm just trying to point out specific things. That's all. I'm really sorry if you didn't understand the meaning of typing in all CAPS. I don't want to do it again because some people might yell at me, or take it the wrong way. So, if you see me type in CAPS, please know that I'm not screaming, I'm trying to point specific words out from my paragraph. Thanks guys. Hope you understand. ALSO- I just wanted to say that I want everyone to please indent their posts and sign using the four tidles! PLEASE. Thank you everyone! :-) DEIDRA C. (talk) 23:11, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I'm not usually what they call a "talk page stalker," but I haven't removed your page from my watchlist yet. I'm actually a writer, (among other things), so perhaps I can offer some assistance in understanding why people seem to get upset at the "all-caps" thing. Please understand that I'm not trying to yell at you or lecture you; just trying to explain why, without over-explaining.
When you write it's like speaking. Unfortunately, I can't see or hear you speak, so all I have is your tone and punctuation to determine whether you're happy, angry or sad. Mostly, your tone lets me know, but punctuation like exclamation points or all-caps also plays a huge part.
When you speak, the words you choose indicate your emotion, just like the tone of your voice does. You do this without even thinking about it, and this lets me know what words you want to emphasize. In fact, the reason I liked your statement above is not only because it was a well written thought, but also because it was filled with emotion. So, what I'm saying is that it is really unnecessary to use all-caps to emphasize words, because your tone already does that.
However, sometimes when speaking people do say certian words or phrases slightly louder, just to give a boost of extra emphasis. If you want to do this in writing try using itallics. To anybody who is reading what you write on Wikipedia (and many people will) itallics will sound like you've only slightly raised your voice in a friendly way. If you really --and I mean really-- want to give a lot of emphasis, then simply surround the words with dashes, like I just did in this sentence. I don't want to bombard you with policy or guideline links, but if you feel like reading some more about punctuation like all-caps, dashes or parentheses, my page User:Zaereth/Writing tips for the non-writer gives some brief explanations.
I hope that helps explain why, and have a good day. Zaereth (talk) 00:50, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You Z. ```Buster Seven Talk 02:53, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem Buster. Just saw someone having difficulties and am trying to help.
To Deidra, I also noticed that you may, possibly, be looking to create some user boxes, to let people know something about your likes and dislikes. If you want, here is a simple user box which you can use or change however you like (provided it doesn't violate the rules). You can go into the edit screen, change the info to anything you like, change the image, the colors, the font, and copy/paste as many times as you want, making cutsom boxes just for yourself. Of course, there are also thousands of pre-made user boxes if you prefer to go through them all. Zaereth (talk) 18:26, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This user is not really interested in user boxes, and has no idea how one appeared on his page.

Upset[edit]

I'm upset. I'm really not that respected in Wikipedia. I see some newbies like me that just get it right, right off the bat. I'm different. I just screw everything up. I'm shame to Wikipedia, and I'm sorry everyone. I have seen other people talk pages. They all have barnstars or Wikilove or really nice comments or friends. I don't have anything. I'm sorry guys. I might as well just leave. I'm nothing here. I am very jealous when I look at other people's talk pages. Even when they're new. I'm sorry guys. Red Hat On Head is sort of new. She's popular here. She's well respected for her gorgeous work. She is so enthusiastic. Just look at Sarah Stierch or Ryan Vessey. I'll never be like them. I thought Wikipedia would give me someone to talk to, a place to express, or simply a place to learn about others. It appears I have no friends. And I was told that by a really rude Wikipedian. But she was right. I don't. I never will. I'm sorry that I'm such a dissapointment. Everyone was so excited for me, but the moment I pressed my finger on a letter, I failed. I've only caused trouble. I'm not cool. I'm not nice. I'm not good at anything. I mess up everything. I'm sorry Shearonik, Red Hat On Head, Ryan Vessey, Sarah Stierch, Gwickwire, Gareth Griffith-Joe. I'm sorry that I'm a big screw up. I know you guys don't appreciate what I've tried to do here on Wikipedia. I'm sorry that I dissapointed everyone. I'm probably better off leaving. I'm nothing here anymore. I'm sorry. :_( I was a waste of time. A waste of help. A waste of room. A waste of a Wikipedian. I'm sorry that I've wasted all of your time guys. I truly am. DEIDRA C. Nooooo! Don't leave! If you look at me when I was new, the same things happened to me when I was first here. Now, at least a few people see me as a valuable Wikipedian! Don't apologize! I'd really suggest you check out WP:Mentor and find a mentor to help you. I'd have been so much better if I had a mentor when I started. If you still want to leave, I respect your right to vanish. But I will miss you, as I believe you can be a very valuable asset to the project (Wikipedia). gwickwire | Leave a message 21:35, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks gwickwire. I'll try to hold back on leaving. If I decide to, I will miss you too. I'm just bummed that some new people are better than me. Thanks. I'll try to work my way up. I said "try". Thanks anyway. I know you would probably miss me if I left. You've been a good help. I'll make my decision Friday. Today is Wednesday for me. Thanks gwickwire, you really helped a lot. DEIDRA C. Wikipedia is a swimming pool that does not have a shallow end, there is no easy, safe way into these waters. So just dive in. And it is not just you, everyone here is different and no one is better than you. we are all equal. Respect is something that is earned. One way (the main way, in my opinion ) that one earns respect is by doing things that are good for the whole Wikipedia project. When you do that the mean, rude, obnoxious editors won’t go away, they live here, but they won’t really bug you and you will get respect from the nice, friendly, helpful editors (about 91% according to a non-scientific poll) and that is what counts as being popular here. If I look at your edit history am I going to find a bunch of edits that improve articles? Or, if I look at a pie chart of your edit history will it reveal that most of your edits are on talk pages? We have plenty of talkers here, we need doers. Carptrash (talk) 14:52, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diedra. You haven't really done anything to make me mad, so I'm sorry you're feeling upset and unhappy here. It doesn't really seem like you have had much you've done to upset anyone. I'm pretty busy with my work - I am working full time for Wikimedia as a temporary employee to help engage more women, so I work 8 hours a day at this stuff and then go home and I Just want to zone out, and chill out, so I understand - I'm a doer, I always have been, and I feel bad that I don't have time to work on all of the projects demanded of me :( I did start the WikiWomen's Collaborative as an effort to help support women like you and me - stop by Facebook perhaps? Leave a comment and meet women from around the world doing what you do! Just you being you and doing what you do - help build a big giant diverse encyclopedia - is really important! So don't stop! :) SarahStierch (talk) 21:55, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are not the first person to feel inadequate or alienated here. See WP:bite. Edit on and learn by making mistakes. Don't forget to add an WP:Edit summary. You can be transparent and blend in. Spend some time looking at articles, going into the history of changes. You can learn a lot from the unintended example of competent editors. 7&6=thirteen () 21:54, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry gwickwire, but Wikipedia is pushing me away. I've been trying to hold on. DEIDRA C.
Noo, Deidra! Don't leave! (I'm sorry for not replying sooner; taking advantage of the no-one-at-home situation and singing along to songs, heehee!) I messed up too! I used to edit with my cousin's account and got bashed on it too - someone told me to "stop the incessant carping" and other mean stuff. If it's any help, I'm not a genius or anything of the sort. I just watched Wikipedia editors, well, edit, and I got better at learning how to do it. No one gets it right on the first try, and neither should you have to. :) Red Hat On Head (talk) 22:05, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to your question.

Hey Gareth. It was me, my 4 cousins, my cousin's friend, my sister, and my dad. So that makes........ eight people in our party at Comic-Con in New York City. It was an hour to thirty-minute drive from New Jersey to New York City. It was a lot of fun. It was SUPER crowded! Lol. You practically were being crushed by other people! Well you see, it was a comic book/videogame/book/movie/celebrity/costume/anime festival. The "con" at the end of Comic Con, means "Comic Con.vention." The "con" stands for "convention". And thank you, I did enjoy myself, Gareth. It was a lot of fun. Everyone was dressed up as either Fiona from Adventure Time=PS- I flippin' love that cartoon! There was a lot of Bain from the Dark Night Rises (batman). That was a good movie. There was a lot of Link from The Legend of Zelda). I took LOADS of pictures. It was fun! There is toooooo much to stretch into how AWESOME it was! All eight of us didn't go together. We split up into 2 groups. It was very cool. It's a TERRIBLE place to go if you have Claustrophobia! Lol. I do have claustrophobia, but I'm over it thanks to Comic Con. I was completely surrounded by my people. NERDS! I am a videogame nerd. I am a comic book nerd! I am NOT a school nerd even though I get A+ averages. I do not enjoy school. I WANT a good education, but you know what I mean. I am a nerd. I can tell you ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING about a videogame! So that's my story! DEIDRA C. (talk) 20:20, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i.e. Culture

We Brits do not understand the term "cookies" as you do in the US – for instance, the example hyperlink that User: Buster7 gives here is to direct you to Nice biscuits, a British favourite. That is Nice, France by the way, not the word that is the opposite to nasty – whereas I believe that you do not use the word "biscuit" at all. Is that correct? -- Gareth Griffith-Jones/GG-J's Talk 15:29, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In America we do
Yes Gareth. We do use the word biscuit in America. But here, biscuit doesn't mean cookies, like it does in Britain. Here in America, biscuits are round, little loafs of bread that are sliced through the middle and prefered with butter or jam. Cookies, is just cookies. Biscuits are different from what British people call them. In Britain, biscuits are cookies. (most of the time). But here, biscuits are what I described above thanks. ALSO- if you are going to reply here, please leave a Talkback message. Thanks. I don't know if that was what you were asking, but just in case, I explained. Thank you! DEIDRA C. (talk) 16:12, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at that link-Biscuits, you will see a picture of an American biscuit,(which is softer and more flaky), and a British biscuit, (which is harder and filled with chocolate). DEIDRA C. (talk) 16:15, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You have understood my point and you have answered my question. Thank you, Deidra. We would call your "biscuits" either baps, or if sweet, scones.
I had expected you to reply here. It keeps the conversation together and is easier to follow. Therefore I copied, cut and pasted your reply here, in order to reply to you. Some editors only post on the other editor's page, but I believe they to be the minority. My way is to use My watchlist and once a dialogue is running, there is no need to post a template such as "Talkback". The one I used above higher up the page (NYCC) is less "in your face" and does the same job. -- Gareth Griffith-Jones/GG-J's Talk 16:41, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See Speculoos. I am Flemish, born in Belgium, came to America 60 years ago. In Flemish, cookies are called koekjes which I guess in England are called biscuits. I liked the Nice cookie/koekje/biscuit because of the prominant NICE that emphasized the friendly intent of the greeting. I'm not even sure if the Nice Cookie is made from speculoos. Flour, water, baking powder and baking soda, a pinch of salt will get you an American Biscuit. But, remember, a rose by any other name is just as fragrant. ```Buster Seven Talk 20:23, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Raidenrules123 ~

Thank you so much! I appreciate this! All I've ever wanted is to know specifically which sources are unreliable so that I can place them in a different section or remove them altogether. But these reviewers are driving me insane with their one-line defenses without a detailed rundown. If you can help me in any way, I would love it! THANK YOU!

Article Help ~[edit]

Hi ~ thanks so much for leaving the DO's and DON'Ts on my Talk Page. I'm just a bit confused though. I always assumed that sources that go under "References" are those that are to back what specific content you have included in your writing. For instance, Mr Robinson is a composer that is detailed in a very well-known book (24 volumes) and can be found online but not in print form ... it is a book specifically on music and composers: so I referenced the author's name and page number citing the subject; and then included it in the section: "BOOK" ... I did this from a model page on "Scott Joplin" that was approved. It is set up the same way. Likewise, to prove that Mr Robinson wrote his book, I did the same ~ and he is mentioned in depth in the WULP book ... I use the NY TIMES for reference in his Broadway conducting ... how is this not an intelligent source? Furthermore, I thought references were references ... and external links were simply that: links that brought you to other sites on the internet for further reference. If subjects in other articles can "external link" their own websites on Wikipedia, then why wouldn't mine be allowed. They are not a references ... just links. WIKIPEDIA is an ENCYCLOPEDIA ... which directs you to other places. I have read your Do's and Don'ts ... any chance you could actually apply those to what I have on my page, piece by piece? It will help me better understand for future edits. Thanks! I really appreciate this. Impromp2Music (talk) 18:15, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I understand what you need[edit]

>style:"color:background color: white<

You probably need me to help you insert your information. Please give me some bullet points on what you want me to insert, the name of the article, w=the name of the section you would like to edit or create, and links(if you want). Oh yeah- and give me references. I will put them in for you, then you can observe my edit, and I'll explain exactly what I did if you don't understand. Also- were the Do's and Don't helpful for you? What about the Do's and Don'ts for rude language? I hope you understand. Just give me the info. and I'll edit for you. (if you want). Please use a table to describe. Like this-

Type your heading here Type second heading here.
type examples here And here!
Here also And here if you want.

You can make more colums in the table if you want. If you don't know how to make a table, I'll help. DEIDRA C. (talk) 18:30, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, here is an example:

Article statement: Aaron Robinson (born December 11, 1970) is an American Composer

I reference the "Composer" with a link to Sadie|Sadie (2004) p. 192 (see #1 reference in article)

Then placed the full information under "Books" from Wiki's Template:

cite book |last=Sadie|first=Stanley |authorlink = Stanley Sadie |editor1-last=Tyrell |editor1-first=John |title=The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians |subject= Biography |page=192 |year=2004 |publisher=Oxford University Press 2nd edition |isbn= 0195170679 |ref=Sadie |edition= volume 18

This is how I was told to reference books by a previous reviewers. The book itself can be referenced online of its existence on Google and Amazon.com (I proved those links before, but was told they were not reliable sources ~ when all I was doing was to try and prove their existence from where I drew the information) ... how I can I reference the book within the text of my article that will suffice for a reliable source to reviewers when they see it in my reference section? If I can master this, I will be able to revise my submission correctly.

Impromp2Music (talk) 18:48, 20 October 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Impromp2Music (talkcontribs) 18:47, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do me a favor, and click this link- CLICK HERE. When you get to the page. Look at the section, "Health. that was my edit to this article. Now if you look at the tiny 7 at the end of the paragraph, you will scroll over it, and see a reference. This is the reference I put in. If you look at the writing, I put a book reference. It includes the author, exact name of the book, the date that the book came out, and the number of pages. Examine that reference. That is what a book reference should look like. And links should be on words that may not be familier, or describing a particular item or thing. Look at the links that I put in. Go check it out. DEIDRA C. (talk) 18:57, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect. Thank you. But wouldn't you know it? this is exactly what I did with one of my first submissions, but the reviewer told me to simply reference the author and page within the text as a "NOTE", and place the "info" cite lines under "Books" ... so I will do what you have done. I have to say though, I have heard back from the reviewer: quickwire, and he/she said that if I can cite a link to the book online (such as Amazon or Yahoo) then he will approve my article. But when I did that the first time, the previous reviewer said it was not a reliable source to cite. It seems I'm wrong if I do, and wrong if I don't ...

Hi ~ well, I went back in and tried to do what you did ... I can't get it to "thumbnail" a description of the (#) when you pass over it, but at least the references now state the correct information when referencing news and books. Do you have a moment to quickly take a look at the page now and see? Thank you.

An easy way to add references[edit]

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia (which helps maintain our policy of verifiability). Adding a well formatted references is very easy to do.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite"...click on it.
  2. Then click on "Templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and just fill as many details as you can, this will add a well formatted reference that would be helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) after some time.
  4. Click on Show preview to make sure that the reference looks the way you want.
  5. Click on Save page to save your edits.

You can read more about it on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv. Hope this helps, Shearonink (talk) 19:29, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deidra, I know that people have pointed you to this before, but you must realize that Wikipedia is not a social network. Editor Deidra. Let me repeat what I told you days ago (October 17th) when I expressed my confidence that you would stay on as an editor.---->While the social aspect among editors is very important, you should realize that Wikipedia is not a social networking site. I say that only so you don't mistake it for something that it is not. Good Luck. I questioned participating in your poll because I felt participating might send the wrong message. The wrong message being that "facebookey" kind of stuff was acceptable. I also sensed that you are a bit fragile and in need of a mentor. When I saw that Sarah from the Foundation had responded, I figured, "What the heck." But I was wrong. I should have trusted my first instinct. I usually hang out at the Teahouse! - J-Mo Talk to Me Email Me 02:51, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Awww. Thanks. PS- I'm a very expierienced Wikipedian, but there are a few things that I don't know yet. DEIDRA C. (talk) 18:33, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know you are proud of your 400 or so edits (90% of which are talk pages or editing on your own user page). And you should be. But you should still consider yourself a novice so that you remain open to learning more and more. Ive been here 5 years with over 24000 edits and I dont consider my self experienced, let alone, very experienced. Buster Seven Talk 19:00, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. By a few, I mean a couple. By a couple, I mean a lot! By a lot, I mean everything! DEIDRA C. (talk) 15:15, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

⋈== Adoption Userbox == Deidra, I went ahead and removed the Adoption userbox at the top of your userpage. Until such time as you learn the fundamentals of editing the encyclopedia (policies and guidelines), and graduate successfully from adoption school, please refrain from offering guidance and/or advice to others. Unfortunately, some of the guidance you have offered regarding the Aaron Robinson (composer) article was a bit off the mark and has brought about quite a bit of confusion. If you have questions or need help with anything, please feel free to contact either myself or your mentor, anytime. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 19:46, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I was going to remove it anyway, but thanks for doing so for me! :) Thanks, but I didn't do that. DEIDRA C. (talk) 22:26, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Deidra! I hope you had a great weekend! I'm more than happy to help anytime. I'm a bit confused by your answer above. Are you saying that you didn't add the adoption userbox? Or that you didn't work with Impromp2Music on his Aaron Robinson (composer) article? Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 03:53, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oops. I must've confused you. I meant I didn't work with her on that article. I only gave her advice about reliable sources, but I didn't work with her on this article. She did that with her own works and thoughts. DEIDRA C. (talk) 18:23, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The advice that you offered to Impromp2Music equates to working with the editor. It is this advice that was off the mark and brought about confusion. Cindy(talk to me) 17:35, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but apperently (acording to some important editors) it didn't. Sorry if you misheard. I don't want to be rude to you, but I actually gave her real advice that helped her actually create an article not edit, so that's what happened. End of story. DEIDRA C. (talk) 21:02, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • You're seriously over your head, not paying attention, don't know what you're talking about, and not aware of how disruptive your "help" has been to others. You don't fully understand Wikipedia policies or guidelines and should not be offering any advice to others. Your "help" or "advice" has been incorrect and disruptive. Just don't do it anymore. Focus on learning from your mentor and the adoption process that she guides you through. And stop using Wikipedia as a social network. The project is an encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not a place to socialize or do things that are not directly related to improving the encyclopedia. The ultimate goal of this website is to build an encyclopedia (please see WP:NOT for further details). Other than that, try Facebook. Network with your friends. Offer them advice to your heart's content. With all due respect, at this point, it's just not helpful here. Cindy(talk to me) 00:17, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. (insulted). You're very confused. What in the world are you talking about? You are explaining this so rude, and I'm trying not to be rude! I don't know why my "advice" is referencing a social network!! And second-of-all= Facebook has nothing to do with referable services. You guys must be confused with someone else because I did not use my advice as a social network. Thanks anyway, though. Can we please end this conversation. I don't want to talk` about this anymore.DEIDRA C. (talk) 00:53, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are two issues here. One is the inappropriate and inaccurate advice offered to others. Until you acknowledge, understand, and stop this behavior, there remains an issue. The second issue is your desire to use Wikipedia as a social network. For example, posting to my talkpage inquiring to "how [I am] doing". If you have a question about learning to use Wikipedia, ask away. I am more than happy to help. However, if you are simply here to socialize, use Facebook. Don't be insulted. Just stop protesting that you know what you are doing (you don't) and learn from your mistakes. Cindy(talk to me) 02:27, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
HEY! I was just trying to say "hi"? Is that a problem? Is being friendly a problem!? Maybe I shouldn't even talk to you! If you're going to reject a simple "hi", then I'm rejecting your help. I'm sorry. I've been in Wiki. awhile now. I've learned to not shout and stay calm. I really really don't want to hurt your feelings (I seriously don't) but I'm fed up with the rejecting of hospitality. I'm sorry, but I was just tryiing to be nice and hospitable, but I can't believe that niceness isn't accepted. "Hi" can start a huge article discussion! "Hi" can start something BIG! And I know because I'm rated best speaker in my school. I know what shouldn't be and what should. But this, this is just weird. I'm sorry for being nice. DEIDRA C. (talk) 02:42, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Deidra, I support your comment at the top of your page. Outside of block notices, you are free to remove anything on your talkpage at anytime. You can even remove comments that others have posted, other than those in a conversation that merely serve to refactor or change the content offered by others. See WP:TALK. You mention that "Hi!" can start a huge article. How do you know this? There is nothing wrong with being kind and hospitable. But is socializing your only intent? See WP:NOT. You may want to check out the WP:TEAHOUSE. It is great that you are rated the best speaker in your school. That is quite an accomplishment! Do you have an interest in creating or editing articles on Wikipedia? At this point, according to this report, you have less than 100 edits to the project, with none to either articles or article discussions, which assist in developing the encyclopedia. Under your other account, you have 22 edits to article space. Where are your interests? What are you interested in doing on Wikipedia? Again, if you need help in editing or understanding the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia, I am more than happy to help. Cindy(talk to me) 03:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • By the way, Deidra, I would be more than happy to socialize and get to know you on Facebook. Just send me an email and we can connect. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 04:34, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Look. I'm sorry. I was trying to be nice. You know.....to know your better nature. And everyone elses. You see. I'm stuck on Wikipedia. I don't know what to edit. I dont' know which articles that best fit my knowledge. So I'm really stuck. DEIDRA C. (talk) 04:38, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think we would all like to have a complete grasp of our better nature. Without knowing much about you, based on the RAIDENRULES123 account, it is clear that you are interested in playing video games. That is certainly not my strength. I've probably lost every action or role play video game I've ever tried. Either get killed or get my car smashed up to pieces. That said, are you familiar with the group of editors that work together to create and improve articles about video games? We call these groups "WikiProjects". Check out this link: Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games. Look around and see if anything interests you there. Try making a comment on the talk page, letting the group members know that you are new to Wikipedia and looking to help out. Let them know your interest in video games. You never know, you may have some knowledge and resources about video games that others are looking for which will help improve articles. Just let them know you want to help, but aren't sure where to start. If you get stuck, let me know. Cindy(talk to me) 05:06, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well....not everyone's good at videogames, but if you want to get better, you have to keep practicing. Especially with other people. But, my mom says videogames are for people with no intelligence and no life. I have intelligence and I'm hoping for a career as a videogame tester or creator. So I'm denying that statement. Also- Thanks for the advice! I'll go check out that WikiProject, BTW. DEIDRA C. (talk) 15:03, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for the advice about playing video games. I'm sure you're right about needing to practice. As far as your mom, she probably just wants the best for you and doesn't understand your interest in video games. My mother always told me I should go into teaching, but I ignored her. It was her unrealized dream and not mine. But looking back, while I have had a successful career outside of teaching, I think I would have enjoyed working in the school system. When all was said and done, she was probably right. Oh well, I have a fulfilled life anyway. While I would always encourage others to listen to their parents, video game testers and creators are actually considered highly intelligent and make quite a bit of money. If that is your dream, go for it! Tell your mom that if you go after your dreams and become successful at it, she will never have to be concerned about you or herself in her retirement years. Let her know you love her and while you want the best for yourself, you want the best for her. A successful career would help to achieve both. You are working on discovering what you are good at doing and are pursuing your goals in that direction. Of course, don't neglect your school work just to play video games. Balance it out. And have fun with both school and your video games. BTW, do you have any books or magazines about video games? What kind of books do you like to read? Cindy(talk to me) 15:28, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
• Awww. Thanks for such excellent advice! You must be like a writer or something! School isn't fun but I do try my best to work in it and stand it. Yes you are right about my mom's advice, and that is also why I wanted to be a videogame tester\game director because I can show her that videogames can make you succeed. Also because I heard you can get a good amount of money for it. Yes I have TONS of magazines about videogames. It's like game reviews and stuff about the characters, etc. I like to read horror or suspensful books. I'm more actiony and sci-fi. Stuff like that. DEIDRA C. (talk) 15:39, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • You have a lot of video game magazines?!? For reals?? Game reviews? Girl, you need to hook up with that WikiProject. You probably don't even realize how valuable your information could be to help others. I can imagine you would have several people asking you for help with finding sources for articles. Check out this link: Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library. There is also a userbox there that you can add to your user page. Post a note on the talk page there and let others know what kind of magazines you have and let them know you can help with game reviews and characters and stuff. If you are hesitant about posting a comment and want me to do it, I would be happy to do it for you. I would just tell people that they can contact you here. Let me know. There is so much you can do to help here. Let's work together to find out where you "fit" best. Honestly, I'm no good at video games, but I can point you in the right direction on Wikipedia. I'm excited to see where you can go from here. Cindy(talk to me) 15:59, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I would reply here, but this conversation thread is getting very long. Do you wanna make another on your page or the bottom of mines or you want to keep it here? 'Cause it's getting confusing a little. DEIDRA C. (talk) 16:04, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks. DEIDRA C. (talk) 16:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Deidra, a tip from a random editor passing by. If a conversation is going way across the page, like this one, you can use the {{outdent}} template to make a line that guides people back to the left-hand side. It can't quite cope with how far your conversation above has gone, but usually people use it a lot earlier. Here's how it looks:

Blah. -- Example 00:01, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Blah blah? -- Another Example 00:03, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Blah blah blah... -- Example 00:06, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Blah blah blah blah. -- Another Example 00:05, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Blah blah! Blah blah blah... -- Example 00:09, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Blah blah, blah de blah, blah, really starting to go across the page now. -- Another Example 00:12, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

...Back to the left again and now we can keep talking. P.S. Blah. -- Example 00:15, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Hope this helps! — Hex (❝?!❞) 16:52, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Oops - I see a couple of people below have already used it here. Well, good luck with things anyway. — Hex (❝?!❞) 16:55, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

Hey Deidra, a couple of editors have told me that you having two user pages and talk pages is really confusing. Is it okay if I merge the two together to your new account? That way, everyone knows where to leave a message *and* you get a notification when you have new messages. Thanks! (Also, if you didn't see, I posted the test to your adoption page and you can take it anytime you want. Good luck!) Keilana|Parlez ici 20:57, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Thanks. DEIDRA C. (talk) 21:27, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, it should all be sorted now. Let me know if you see anything that got messed up. By the way, I left you some comments and follow up questions on your test. You did well, I just wanted to ask a few more to make sure you understood. :)` Keilana|Parlez ici 02:08, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Halloween Message[edit]

Thanks for the Halloween Greeting and the pie. It was tasty. You may have noticed that your greeting was deleted. That was not intentional. It happened while I rolled back all the TB messages that you sent which, artistically, were a bit too massive all strung in a row like that. Good Luck with you mentor and remember to be patient. Nothing that I have done (here or elsewhere) since we met was meant as an attack against you. My only objective was to safeguard new editors and their first experiences. 'nuff said about that. Good luck! ```Buster Seven Talk 04:33, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Sorry that I didn't answer in a while. I was hit by hurricane Sandy. It was aweful. So many people had to go to shelters and were left without food. I lost heat and power in my house. I retrieved it 4 hours ago though. DEIDRA C. (talk) 18:15, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You advised the following:They totally terrorized this article. Its a mess! I feel really bad for what happened. I hope you can fix it. These types of actions and responses do little to forward the Encyclopedia and they do much to damage interpersonal editorial contacts. Please proceed to the User page above and see what advice you could have given. I don't question your heart or your good intentions. But editors did not terrorize the article. They merely did what editors do....they edited it. The lengthy advice given to User Impromp2 is great advice for us all. Im sure your mentor would agree. ```Buster Seven Talk 09:01, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. :(. But I still think that they messed it up. The information is completely incorrect. DEIDRA C. (talk) 21:53, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They? Who is they? If you mean Editor Cindaruse, you are wrong. And please be a bit more clear on which information is completely correct. What was incorrect was your earliest support of Impromt2's ire and her rejection of assistance. Realistically, I'm just not sure that Wikipedia is the right fit for you. Perhaps you should try Simple Wikipedia. I'm sure you would be much happier there. There are too many busy adults here. And it takes time away from Encyclopedic work to constantly correct the antics of a problem child. Before you say I'm rude, look up the word "antics' and realize what I'm asking you to understand. ```Buster Seven Talk 08:52, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. I understand what you mean. But stop worrying about me. When I do something TERRIBLE! than you can yell at me for it. :) But I did't. PLus+ don't reject people's opinion. I don't like the article's organization and placement. I don't like the sources either. So don't complain about an honest opinion. :) Thanks Buster7 for your help through Wiki. I'll be on my way out. If I don't continue on this Wikipedia, I won't continue on any. Thanks Buster! I undrstand that you dont' want me here, but that's my dicision. Thanks anyway for your input and I respect your honest opinion. :) DEIDRA C. (talk) 15:09, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

At least you know. I lost internet, cable, heat, and power. So did all my family members. Finally, my aunt got power and heat (no internet or cable), and I had to stay there for half a week. At leaset while I was there, I got to play my cousin's awesome videogame, "Resident Evil 6", and Dead Space 1. It was so fun! Dead Space is scary though! But lots of trees fell on houses on my block. Hey! So I saw your conversation above about video games. Here's the link to the wikiproject: Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games. You can definitely use all of your video game magazines as sources! What's a video game you like a lot? Keilana|Parlez ici 16:06, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to Keilana's question- "I like Resident Evil 6", and "BlackOps".

Oh yeah, and thanks Cindy! If I don't understand something I'll definitely go to my adoptor Keilana or you! Thanks Cindy. Actually, I'm going to check it our right now. DEIDRA C. (talk) 16:37, 7 November 2012 (UTC) 16:29, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I looked at Resident Evil 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops, then I found Call of Duty: Black Ops II. It looks like it comes out next week, but there is still quite a bit of information available about it. That said, the article about the new game doesn't have any reviews added to the article yet. Do you think there might be any reviews in any of your magazines? You could be the first to create a reviews section and add some reviews. That would be cool. It would also really help the article a lot. Cindy(talk to me) 16:42, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I have a lot of friends who love Black Ops! It looks really fun, I'm just bad at video games because I suck at hand eye coordination. You should go to their talk page and ask how you can help! They also have a to-do list that you could start to work on. I just looked at the articles and I agree with Cindy, they could definitely do with some reviews! Keilana|Parlez ici 16:44, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OMG YOU GUYS! :) I could really help! Couldn't I! Lol. That's awesome! I really want to help with this! Oh yeah- and Keilana, all because your bad with hand-eye cordination, that doesn't mean that you can't be good at "zombies". Just keep practicing "zombies". The first time I played it, you would think that I never played a videogame! I sucked! Now- I'm awesome at it! And I do much better than some boys in my class! I'm awesome at it now. Its called- "practice makes perfect". I'm going to go get my magazines and game reviews. Deidra C.(leave a message!) 16:50, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeeeaah. I just visited the WikiProject Videogames, and I don't have the slightest idea what to do. DEIDRA C. (talk) 17:03, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey guys. I'm going to edit the Resident Evil 6 article! There is absolutely no information on the characters! Yeah. I'm really going fix this article. Some of the information is incorrect also. I know. Because I've played the whole game. DEIDRA C. (talk) 17:17, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Go Deidra! Just remember to cite your sources and you'll do great! Let me know if you need any help! Keilana|Parlez ici 17:35, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Keilana. I really appreciate this. Deidra C.(leave a message!)
Good luck, Deidra. ```Buster Seven Talk 17:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh hey Buster! Thanks for good luck. I'm really going to need that. I mean I've played the game over and over multiple times so I know how it goes. I guess I have to refer to the game!Deidra C.(leave a message!)

Hey Deidra, here's an idea. Take a look at this link: Call of Duty: Black Ops#Characters and setting. Do you see the link there that says: Main article: List of characters in Call of Duty: Black Ops? It leads readers to this page: List of Call of Duty characters. (Hope this all makes sense.) It's that last page that I want you to see. All the Call of Duty characters. Do you think you could actually create a new page of all the characters from Resident Evil 6? You could actually use the page of the characters from the List of Call of Duty characters as an example. That would be so totally cool! Then you could link to it from the Resident Evil 6#Characters section. Let me know what you think. Cindy(talk to me) 18:18, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just a precaution. Don't get upset if you are not allowed to submit "gameplay" for the various games you will be editing. I used to play the Qix Video machine with my kids (many years ago) as they were growing up. I was actually quite good at it and could play for hours on just a few quarters. Early as an editor I tried to include my tactics on the article but they were dis-allowed by avid game article watchers. I didn't get upset or think they were rude or didn't like me or had a grudge or anything like that. We had discussions, I understood and accepted their stance. I followed their lead and moved on. I still visit the article and enjoy seeing how it has changed over the years. Remember: Saying "No. You can't do that." is not rude. ```Buster Seven Talk 19:56, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please be careful to avoid edits like this in the future. If you have access to offline video game magazines then the Wikiproject Video Games could certainly use your help. Let me know if you would like help listing your name as a contact in the WP:VG Reference Library. -Thibbs (talk) 18:05, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Thanksgiving[edit]

Happy Thanksgiving, Deidra C.!
As we all sit down at the dinner table and say our thanks, I would like to give thanks to you and wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. May your turkey or goose or venison or ham or beast of choice satiate you until next year!

A traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

Oooooh. Thanks Buster. I eat turkey and ham, so thanks. We also sometimes eat rabbit on Thanksgiving. Mmmmmm. I can just taste it now!! Thanks again Buster7! RaidenRules! (talk) 18:13, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi D! Happy Gobble Day! Just stopping by with a quick "hello!" (Hope *I* don't get in trouble for it too! LOL) Listen, I am 44 years old AND a professional writer AND I still get "smacked" constantly by Wikipedians telling me I've done something wrong! Sheesh! (And, YES, I use CAPS for emphasis too -- that's just HOW I talk!!! Hey, and I'm a little deaf too, so maybe I'm yelling in real life and not just when typing too?!? Oh well! :-) Anyhow, I am SOOO glad you are still "with us" after SUCH a rough beginning - yow! I read over your talk page and I learned a WHOLE LOT from that too! I love that you are NOT AFRAID to ask questions, ever! That's a VERY GOOD thing! Don't let ANYONE take that away from you. (It'll make you an awesome game designer too!) I'm like that too. And, it's NOT always an easy road to be on. MANY people just give up and shut up and be quiet to avoid getting yelled at. But, then we LOSE those people's creative new ideas that they might have had if they hadn't been to afraid to speak UP!!! (Imagine what America would be like if Martin Luther King, Jr., had listened to all the people --thousands! maybe millions!-- telling HIM to "shut up" and "go away"!?!?) No! We NEED people like that, and like YOU! So, hang in there, 'kay!?!

You know, I keep trying to communicate to various people (did the "survey", etc.) about "why" I think Wikipedia has been losing so many contributors. I might have to "borrow" some of your quotes -- I think you hit the nail on the head! For some reason, when you're on the OUTSIDE it's really CLEAR how its messed up. But, as soon as you try to "explain" that to a Wikipedian, its gets confused and UNclear for some reason?!?! Weird, I know, but that's the problem I have too! I felt like I could totally feel your frustration in trying to explain just that! I think, maybe, the "hardcore" Wikipedians think that the Wikipedia ITSELF is more important that the PEOPLE who contribute to it. I don't think that's true-- I think they have it BACKWARDS, cuz without the PEOPLE there'd be no one to MAKE the Wikipedia and no one to READ it or USE it either!!! Bright, creative people (LIKE YOU!) are the very future of Wikipedia. I think helping kids like you is MORE important than editting (for the 152nd time!) some article only three people have ever read! Seriously! I think they're taking themselves TOO seriously. I wonder if that's the "problem" with Wikipedia now? It's TOO concerned with "protecting the Wikipedia brand" so to speak? Well, whatever. I just had to decide for myself that I'd just do the best I can, shake off the harsh criticisms, try to learn from them as best I can and move on....

In the meantime, I was wow'd by the "Simple English Wikipedia" -- I'd never even heard of such a thing!!! It's really cool, I think I might go there to practice my editting skills too. (I'm old and don't learn as quick as you do. I still don't even know how to get these indents right -- I'll have to re-read those notes someone sent you.) It looks like a good place to practice English, grammar, and learning Wikipedia skills.... (I still have trouble with my cites too. That info you have on your talk page REALLY helped me!) Have you tried doing any work there? I'm just curious if you can give me any advice? I'll keep an eye on your page, but sorry if I don't check TOO often (once a month or so-- sorry!) In the meantime, KEEP ON trying, please! As they say, "Don't let the turkeys get you down!" (ESPECIALLY at Thanksgiving, lol!!!)  :-) Cynthisa (talk) 17:12, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh and also fear of knives is Aichmophobia. As for your other interest (from your profile page), in which I need to update mine cause mine is boring, as for your interest, FBI Agent and or Video Game tester? Quite the range, but you do have ambision and at least an idea of something already. I always wanted to be a video game tester myself. I grew up in the mid 80s well I was very young, but from late 80s on through the 90s, we had an Atari 7800, very old but I remember it well. One of my favorite games was Barnstorming, my father and I played this frequently. Other games I played alot were, Boxing, Dig Dug, Pole Position and RealSports Tennis. Wow old stuff but hey it was what was out at the time. Then in the 90s came my next system, the Sega Genesis, I played this like crazy and I dominated Joe Montana Football, as well as ToeJam & Earl, Sonic the Hedgehog and X-Men, as well as many more. We got a Playstation in the late 90s, but didnt have it long, so we upgraded in the early 2000s with the PlayStation 2 which my father still has at his house. I on the other hand wants I moved away, got an Xbox 360, which definately is different from the old Atari. My favorite game by far is Grand Theft Auto IV and just recently Red Dead Redemption. I could write articles on all of this! I think I will. Follow your dreams and continue your excelent work. βrỴḇṛỹ1999 (talk) 10:28, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know the atari. I watched angry video game nerd play it. Lol. It's old. I have a play station 2, STILL! I want the play station 3 so badly! I LOVE grand theft auto so FUN! I like to ride the motorcycles and have the helicopters chase me. It's really fun. And Red Dead Redemption is one of my GAMES! I wish I could write an article for a videogame tht I love like Resident Evil 6. *PS-awesomest game ever.* I'm a crazy nerd, though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE black ops. So fun. Zombies is my favorite. I wanted to write an article on it but I don't know what to use as a reference or reliable resource. I've only played the game like......50 million times over again! I can tell you anything about it. If you wanna know about videogame's "characters", see me once in awhile. Also- I have a wii. I have black ops for it. It's funny how I'm a girl, BTW. lol. Love videogames. It's how I grew up. Half my older cousins are boys so I lerned from them and my dad. It's something I love to do. RaidenRules!Talk to me!
  • Alrighty maybe we can gang up on an article or something on video gaming or something. You never know! βrỴḇṛỹ1999 (talk) 22:45, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answer (from my talk page)[edit]

Your user page is awesome! I came here to actually ask you a question. It might be a little dumb though. I would like you to post the answer at MY talk page! Here's the question: I've noticed that you've created a type of award. It a chain with a spiked ball at the end and its awarded to those who have been attacked and didn't loose their cool. It says you created it. How did you create it? Please answer on my talk page thanks! RaidenRules!Talk to me! 23:58 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I drew the flail (this is the name of the spiked ball with the chain) using an old graphic software called Paint Shop Pro (I no longer have it). Then I used the option of texture to give it a metallic feel. MathKnight 18:08, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is a call of duty wiki![edit]

I think I'm going to join the call of duty wikipedia! They have that! It's really cool. There is a lot of problems with it but whatever, it's still about Edward Richtofen! It's very cool. RaidenRules!Talk to me! 11:33, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, yeah, it's been a long time. Sorry I haven't been in touch, I have missed you! I got my PS3 and sold my PS2. All the lego ones are pretty cool, you have black op? Awesome! I got Batman ones. What's this Wikipedia call of duty thing? Merry Christmas! :D --RexRowanTalk 16:19, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. Merry December I should be saying. I wish I had a PS3. I still have PS2. Yes I have Black Ops. My fav. mode is zombies, btw. I have a Wii. My fav. character is Dr.Ricktofen, he's so funny and cray-cray! (crazy). Oh yes. It's the Call Of Duty Wiki. I'm trying to work Dr. Edward Ricktofen's article, but there is so much nonsense its not even funny!!!! So many people are ignorant there. SOME of them are very inexpierienced. I don't even think I'm going to join for this reason. I was getting some requests and welcomes to join, but nah. I think I'll pass. Do you have a wii? 'Cause if you do, i'd love to be your black ops ally. lol. RaidenRules!Talk to me! 12:04, 9 December, 2012 (UTC)
No, I don't have a wii, I like PS3 games :D Maybe we can participate an online game together, have to be free though, I can't feed the machine when I have kids to feed, hehehe. I would like to give you a big hug! :D --RexRowanTalk 17:16, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh. PS3 games are better, but we can't afford the fancy PS3. A wii is just fine. Nothin' wrong with it, though I wish I had a PS3. Black Ops 2 just came out, CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY! My cous' said it was good, but the new zombie characters aren't that funny compared to the old ones. Oh....Ricktofen....I'll miss your sick sense of humor! Suggestion[edit]

Deidra, first off, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas. Secondly, I don't believe you've ever made an edit to an article based on this. The danger in not making article edits is that people tend to think you're using Wikipedia as a social network. You seem to have a strong interest in video games. Perhaps you'd be interested in joining the video games Wiki-Project, and improving articles related to video games. We all need to be here to build an encyclopedia, and we definitely could use your help. I know you're currently in the adoption program with Keilana, and hopefully you'll eventually get to some article work, but it can never hurt to start now. Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns when you're working in article space, or anywhere else for that matter, and once again, have a terrific Christmas! Respectfully, Go Phightins! 04:16, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed that the content you recently added in this edit [1] is plagiarized directly from the source you cited. This is a copyright violation and is unacceptable. Please read and understand completely: WP:COPYVIO and WP:PLAGIARISM. I'm contacting your adopter as well. Yes, this is a problem. I'm glad you're trying to add sources but you need to reword what the sources say in your own words, or add a citation to something that's already written. Keilana|Parlez ici 18:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
