Hot Topics in... article

Hello! I noticed the coi tag on the Hot Topics in... article. I am indeed a collaborator of the publisher of these series, but I thought that I was correctly complying to wiki policies by giving a neutral point of view and reliable information. I now realize I should have simply suggested the topic, it would have been much easier. Anyhow, I think I will simply avoid editing at all from now on, even if I was "exercising great caution" in doing this neutrally, etc. Could you kindly let me know if the coi tag will somehow always remain on the article or if it may be deleted by some editor if the information reported appears correct, neutral and generally complies with wiki policies? Thanks! Amerloni (talk) 12:39, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to see you stop editing. COI tags eventually get removed once someone makes sure everything is as you say, but it's kind of a low priority for most editors, so they tend to stay a while.--Fabrictramp(public) (talk) 17:51, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Nomination of Hipstep for deletion

A discussion has begun about whether the article Hipstep, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hipstep until a concensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. You appear to have deleted this article before. Thank you.   — Jeff G.  ツ 17:32, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Florence House

I'm new on here but know you helped edit an article: Florence House, which is now up for deletion again (deemed not significant by one user). Any suggestions on showing it's significance? It houses 40 formerly homeless women. There are countless other homeless facilities on Wiki. It would be good to have this one featured as well. Sources are clearly linked. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you 216.195.133.130 (talk) 19:33, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Lanner Group Ltd

Hello! I have been writing a page about Lanner Group Ltd, I am interested in simulation and this company (or rather its predecessor) was the responsible for the world's first visual interactive tool SEE WHY so I want to start writing a series of articles about that software and its descendents. Lanner Group is the starting block for me as that's the subject I have the most references on. I have no idea if it is similar in content to the page (there is a Lanner Inc.) that was deleted by yourself and wondered if you might like to have a look and let me know if you can suggest any improvements / changes. I had the article up on the Requests for feedback board for review the past few days but it looks a busy place and as yet I have had no feedback (positive or negative.) If you get a chance you can view it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Sachab1/Lanner_Group_Ltd

Many thanks

Mafia Daughter the Play

You deleted a page about a show that is being prepped to open in Philadelphia and Chicago. There were more than 2 reviews on the show... actually 5. The play is published. Your explanation of notability is not plausible. Thank you for ruining a perfectly acceptable background page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.64.124.211 (talk) 15:56, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

I did not delete Mafia Daughter The Play, I only opened a discussion about whether it should be deleted.
If you were able to find more reviews than I did, you should have mentioned that at the deletion discussion. As it was, I found one more than had been in the article (a blog post doesn't count as a professional review.) And while you may think my explanation of notability isn't plausible, take a minute to read WP:Notability. You'll discover that my explanation is the standard used here on Wikipedia. You can always suggest improvements to the guideline at Wikipedia talk:Notability.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 18:40, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

I closed this AFD as "speedy delete" per CSD A7 but noticed that you declined an A7. Therefore, feel free to restore this article of you wish. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 01:21, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm not convinced enough that notability is out there to bother with restoring, but I still feel A7 doesn't apply. (Oh, and a belated congrats on getting the bit.) --Fabrictramp | talk to me 01:59, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
On your second point, nobody was more surprised then me, I was dragged "kicking and screaming" to RFA and fully expected to get clobbered. On your first point, I probably wouldn't have tagged it A7 if I saw it on special:newpages but when I read it before closing the AFD and saw "he was the first trainer for "notable team" but he could have been the second (something like that) my first thought was Yeah! That's the ticket!. In any case, G4 doesn't apply to speedy deletes so if someone wants to recreate the article with sources to show which one he was or that otherwise demonstrates notability then more power to them. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 04:44, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

RE: Rotec Enterprises, Austrailia, Deletion.

Is the company no longer there? My School has an engine built by them, for use on a Sopwith Replica, SO I was wondering about the deltion with no reasons stated? Tim —Preceding unsigned comment added by T1sbyster (talkcontribs) 04:04, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

I can't find that an article has ever existed at Rotec Enterprises. There was an article at Rotec Engineering, which did have a deletion reason, namely "Article about a company, corporation, organization, or group, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject (CSD A7))". The article consisted of "Rotec Engineering is an Australian company which produce the Rotec R2800, Rotec R3600 radial engines and various other engine related products. The company was founded by brothers Paul and Matthew Chernikeeff in 2000, after many backyard projects." This only says that the company exists (which is confirmed by the fact that you have an item built by them), but not that they are a notable enough company to be in an encyclopedia.
Take a read through WP:Notability, and if you think the company can meet the guidelines, take a stab at writing an article about them. You'll have a lot more time to get the article into shape if you write it at a subpage of your user page, such as at User:T1sbyster/Rotec Engineering, or at the article incubator. The article Santa Fe Muzik Fest has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This non-notable music festival only happened twice (2007 and 2009), and it garnered very little media attention. Thus, sourcing it well will be virtually impossible.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sorry for the template. Hi, it appears that you were the initial creator of Pure programming language article. It is currently scheduled for deletion by a user Cristopher Monsanto who has began some sort of a war against "non-notable" programming languages here. He has already deleted such languages as Nemerle, Alice ML, Mythryl and others. It will be nice to have Pure page still in place. Deletion review for CvWiki

An editor has asked for a deletion review of CvWiki. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. PeterMerel (talk) 23:25, 4 May 2011 (UTC) Hi Fabrictramp, I think CvWiki is notable in that it was the first Open Source wiki engine. It was the first wiki used as an Agile Project Wiki (at HP in 1997). It pioneered features that are now common to all wiki engines including transclusion, versioning and edit collision prevention. It was the GPL'ed basis for AtisWiki and UseModWiki, and thereby contributed directly to the MediaWiki engine and the open content ethic. It also pioneered "WaybackMode", which is used today in MediaWiki to maintain the context of historical discussions. CvWiki's history is documented on C2 at http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?CvWiki. Pete.

What gave you the right to delete richmond parkrun?

You appear to live in the United States. You deleted a page relating to a voluntary 5K run in Richmond, London. Why did you do this? Do you think you have the right to roam Wikipedia deleting what you like? Very arrogant if you do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Richmondbill (talkcontribs) 06:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

My nationality had nothing to do with the deletion. The article was deleted after a community discussion and consensus was reached at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wimbledon Common parkrun. If you feel the discussion was closed in error (ie that there was, in fact, consensus to keep the article), you can ask for a review of my closure at Wikipedia:Deletion review. If you feel you can write a new version of the article that meets the requirements of Wikipedia:Notability, try writing a version at Wikipedia:Article Incubator and ask the volunteers there for some constructive criticism. However, since you have notified me, I'll point out that the article technically isn't eligible for prod, since it was previously deleted through prod on 23Mar2008, then recreated by User:Bikr in 2009. The recreation is viewed as contesting the prod, so this isn't uncontroversial. Research into the user pages of Wikipedians: Invitation to participate

Greetings,

My name is John-Paul and I am a student with the University of Alberta specializing in Communications and Technology.

I would like to include your Wikipedia user page in a study I am doing about how people present themselves online. I am interested in whether people see themselves in different ways, online and offline. One of the things I am looking at is how contributors to Wikipedia present themselves to each other through their user pages. Would you consider letting me include your user page in my study?

With your consent, I will read and analyze your user page, and ask you five short questions about it that will take about ten to fifteen minutes to answer. I am looking at about twenty user pages belonging to twenty different people. I will be looking at all user pages together, looking for common threads in the way people introduce themselves to other Wikipedians.

I hope that my research will help answer questions about how people collaborate, work together, and share knowledge. If you are open to participating in this study, please reply to this message, on your User Talk page or on mine. I will provide you with a complete description of my research, which you can use to decide if you want to participate.

Thank-you,

Article for speedy deletion Stefan D'Silva

Thank you for your coment that it was not for speedy deltion but needed discussion.

The article has been marked for speedy deletion but may I submit the following points in favour of keeping it.

(1) The in line citations suggest that the topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject and under the Wikipedia rules in my opinion fulfills the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article.

(2) The references do address the subject directly in detail (ie Newspapers appear to have sent a reporter to interview the subject and do not merely rehash a press release from a company), and no original research was needed to extract the content.

(3) The coverage in my opinion was significant (more than a trivial mention) and WAS (although it need not be the main topic of the source material to stisfy Wiki criteria)

(4)It satisfies the criterion for reliability as the newspapers editors should be assumed to the editorial integrity to allow verifiable evaluation of notability by the newspaper at least in Sri Lanka where it made the National daily broadsheets.

(5)The sources in the list of inline citations are in the majority secondary sources providing presumed objective evidence of notability. The depth of coverage and quality of the sources and their multiplicity and not being from the same author or organization should strengthen the case for the purposes of establishing notability.

(6) All but one of the inline citations are Independent of the subject but one is a personal web site and can be considered under the category of "self-publicity, advertising, self-published material by the subject, the subject's website, autobiographies, and press releases".

What may be a subject of debate is importance but in my opinion I believe that the wiki criteria for notability have been met.

Liannalianna (talk) 14:17, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry if you misinterpreted my edit summary. There's only a limited space to write there.
I was not expressing an opinion on notability one way or another. Obviously another editor felt the article should be deleted (which is why they nominated it for speedy deletion) -- I was simply telling them that they needed to pursue other avenues that would allow more community discussion if they wanted to pursue deletion. Cheers!---Fabrictramp(public) (talk) 15:15, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Many thanks again. I was expressing gratitude to you for fairness in recommending the correct action and have also expressed a view to the other editor that discussion should precede deletion. While I did not think you were expressing an opinion I unashamedly took the oppurtunity to dos so!!!! enjoy your break and good luck with whatever takes you away on your wikibreak. Liannalianna (talk) 16:55, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your note about the speedy delete template I put on this article. You say that it has "already had two speed requests removed". I don't think that's quite what happened -- one editor added a speedy tag, then apparently had second thoughts. It seems to me perfectly legitimate to put a speedy on it again. As you point out, it has been on WP for four years now, and still has no indication of notability. Surely we are not going to have to debate every spam article about every little brand that gets added to WP when it doesn't even try to demonstrate notability? --Macrakis (talk) 01:24, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

One of them is me. She was the founder of Parmarth Niketan in Belgaum. The branches of this Parmarth Niketan are spread in several cities like Pune, Mumbai, Nashik etc. Prayers take place at these temples 3 times a day. Several devotees are present for these prayers. For further validation and reference, please refer "http://www.shriharimandiram.org" . To verify the fame and following of this personality, please refer to the facebook group "https://www.facebook.com/groups/ppskm/". You may contact their office or the website administrator for even further validation. Their address is as follows: Parmarth Niketan(Sriharimandiram) 734, Angol Road, Tilakwadi- East, Belgaum-590006 Phone:(+91)0831-2480953 Fax:(+91)0831-2483653.

Thanks and hope you consider this request for CANCELLING the deletion of this page from wikipedia. Sincerely, Swapnil Paranjape (Swapnya123 (talk) 15:33, 21 January 2012 (UTC))

I handled the deletion of the page back in 2008, which was the result of the deletion discussion here. To understand the reasons for that deletion, you might want to read WP:Notability. Then see if you can find reliable sources, independent of the subject or her followers, showing notability. If you can find good sources, you may be ready to write a new version. Take a few minutes to read WP:FIRST, create a draft in your user space, then put the {{helpme}} tag in your draft and ask someone to look it over. This will help you avoid some common mistakes that lead to deletion.
The recent deletion was done by someone else, but appears to be because the new version was a copyright violation. Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material without explicit permission from the copyright holder. To see how the copyright holder can grant permission, take a look at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.
Hope that helps a bit.--Fabrictramp(public) (talk) 05:47, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Sir i did not understand by reliable sources. I do have some books written by Parampoojya Shri Kalavati Aai. Could they be considered as RELIABLE sources? If so, should I mail them to you? Can you please tell what else am I supposed to submit? Thanks (Swapnya123 (talk) 11:56, 30 January 2012 (UTC))

Nomination of Jehovah's Witnesses and salvation for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jehovah's Witnesses and salvation is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jehovah's Witnesses and salvation (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. BlackCab (talk) 08:14, 28 January 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willietell (talkcontribs)

Serious case of over notification here. I did a gnomish categorization of the first deletion discussion in 2008 and have had no other involvement on the article.--Fabrictramp(public) (talk) 18:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
User:Willietell is spraying these notifications everywhere under my username. BlackCab (talk) 20:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
I assumed it was someone who had been notified by you and decided to copy/paste the notification to everyone who ever edited anything associated with it. :) --Fabrictramp(public) (talk) 20:59, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
I only copy/pasted it to those editors still in existence, who took part in the previous discussion, I thought it would be the proper thing to do for the sake of fairness. Willietell (talk) 17:29, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Fabrictramp,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 23:23, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Deadend pages dead?

Hi - I noticed that the Deadend pages project list hasn't been updated in quite awhile. Has that project moved elsewhere or just fizzled out? I used to enjoy sifting through the crud for the occasional gem. I thought about attempting to update the list myself, but have never used AutoWikiBrowser. I'm not (always) a total idiot, but I also don't want to court disaster.... Any advice beyond the instructions on the project page?--Koppas (talk) 22:24, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mindfire Solutions, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. AndrewN talk 08:45, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Just FYI, I didn't create the page, only did a gnomish move to fix capitalization.--Fabrictramp(public) (talk) 04:15, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I plan on re-sorting that list after the RfD, and keeping it around and revisiting it in another year or so, and do the same thing for the guys who didn't "make the cut". Best of luck with your masters, thinking of doing something similar myself. Also great news, since we moved back to Canada we can actually get Udi's (probably the best GF bread on the market). --kelapstick(bainuu) 09:15, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for raising your concerns about the notability of this page back in Jan 2008. I looked it over, but wasn't sure. As it's been on for 5 years, you might want to consider taking it to the Notability Noticeboard or AfD. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 19:56, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Also for The Stories of Defeats, Under the Black Umbrella, Systems assurance, Peter Theobalds, Sunflower revolution, Steve Van Beek, U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross and Stormblade. Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 20:06, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. School is starting back up and since I'm working full time and pursuing a Master's, I can't devote the proper time for forming and defending a series of AfD noms right now.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 02:41, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Sourcing

Four and a half years ago, you placed an unsourced tag on User analysis. I've added some sources and taken the initiative to remove the tag. While I would normally check with the user who initially placed the tag to see if they're been satisfied first, I understand that you might not see this message for a while. Regardless, when you do log in again, I wouldn't mind hearing what you have to say about the progress the article has made since August 2008. MezzoMezzo (talk) 11:33, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

I assume you auto-notified me, rather than actually looking at the edit history. If you had, you'd see that my involvement was confined to moving the page to the correct capitalization. I've recreated the page as a redirect. (FWIW, I don't care one way or the other if the correctly capitalized page gets deleted. Looks like it has notability and COI issues, but it's not eligible to be speedied.)Fabrictramp | talk to me 04:15, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

AfD input

Hi, Fabrictramp. Way back in 2009, you participated in an AfD discussion for Forever Oeuvre, and voted to delete it. The article was deleted, but was subsequently recreated. The new article did not address any of the concerns whatsoever and is in the same bad state it was in before. Thusly, I have relisted it at AfD, and would very much appreciate it if you gave your input. It has passed the initial 7 day period and has been relisted again at AfD to establish a clearer consensus, so I'm now reaching out to you. There has thusfar only been one other vote, and that is for deletion. Thanks, Jacedc (talk) 18:30, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
