Welcome to the Karate task force of WikiProject Martial arts and WikiProject Japan. This WikiProject Task Force aims to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Karate and the organisation of information and articles on this topic. This page will ultimately contain suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this community will help to focus the efforts of Wikipedians interested in Karate, especially in light of interest in Karate following its inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games. If you would like to help, please add yourself as a participant in the project below, inquire on the talk page, and see the to-do list, below.

Goals

[edit]
  • Improve Wikipedia's coverage of Karate by improving, adding and re-working pages.
  • Better connect and flesh out pages concerning Karate, for example mapping out katas and styles and ensuring they are properly referenced.
  • Improve referencing of articles on Karate, particularly replacing primary references where possible.
  • Improve articles that are associated with the Karate at the Summer Olympics from the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
  • Create advice pages for articles about Karate.

Scope

[edit]
  • The project covers all articles about or touching on Karate!

[edit]

The {{Karate}} navigation bar should be added to the bottom of all articles listed in the template. This list should contain general types of martial arts, and not any subdivisions or individual schools, there are additional restrictions on what articles are included based on the quality, these are described in the template documentation. It looks like this:

Infoboxes

[edit]

Infoboxes should be placed at the very beginning of an article, and will appear in the upper right corner. Infoboxes relevant to karate have been created by the wider Martial Arts Wikiproject for the following purposes:

Stubs

[edit]

We can use the three martial arts stub notices, instead of the generic {{stub}}:

Barnstars

[edit]

If you feel a user has been an outstanding contributor to articles on Karate, you might like to award him/her our own barnstar. Use:

{{The Karate Barnstar|put your message here ~~~~}}
  • yourname: your user name, inserted with ~~~ (which inserts your user name and a link to your talk page) or just entered manually.
  • message: your personal message to the recipient.
  • The current date will be added automatically.

which gives something like:

The Karate Barnstar
{{{1}}}

You can also use the 'alternate' barnstar design which has a nice black belt:

{{The Karate Barnstar|put your message here ~~~~|alt}}

which gives something like:

The Karate Barnstar
{{{1}}}
