Old Kurdistan flag[edit]

Hey mr. I asked you about converting an old Kurdistan flag to a svg flag, don't know what you answered, cause i dont find my "question" in your page anymore, so will you be so kind and convert this one for us. File:Http://ku.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wêne:Alai-kurdistan.gif from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ku/d/d6/Alai-kurdistan.gif, because they are using the wrong flag in the english section. thanks again Metino84 (talk) 23:02, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Flag Hotel[edit]

Hi Denelson83,

Firstly I am brand new to Wikipedia so please accept my sincerest apology if this comment is in the wrong place, posted in the wrong manner or otherwise not how it "should be done" I found that getting a comment to you as author of a certain file is not as easy here as it is when messing about with facebook!

I am a navigating officer on a UK registered platform supply vessel (PSV). My comment is regarding your file for flag Hotel which is used on a number of other pages relating to flags, maritime pilots and pilot vessels. The flag is depicted as being red and white, split vertically (colours side by side) where in fact flag Hotel is split horizontally (white on top of red). I felt I should point this out in the interests of accuracy.

Please dont take my word for it, I am 100% sure that if you check this information against the international code of signals, or indeed look at any pilot boat with the H flag hoisted you will find that I am correct.

Please feel free to somehow move this text to a more appropriate place if I have used the wrong method to get this message to you.

Thanks and best regards,

Anigmalistic, UK.

149.254.218.89 (talk) 15:10, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello again. Thank you for your reply. When I received it I angrily grabbed the International Code of Signals from the bridge of the ship I am on intending on getting a reference that would prove my argument. I will leave you to imagine the sinking feeling I felt as I opened the book to Appendix 2, page 172 (Table of signalling flags) and found flag hotel to be exactly as you described.

My apologies for doubting you, and you can rest assured that the rogue "This is a pilot boat" flag that had made its way on board our ship under the guise of flag Hotel is being replaced.

GPS and how it work's.[edit]

Hello Denelson83

Thanks for your corrections on language and adjustments. Last few days so many alterations have been made that the part I had addes is changed quite a lot. I still have read it carefully, but some changes are not correct in my opinion. I'll treat them here.

1. meaning a measure of the precise time-of-day is very important
I do not consider this to be correct. Because once the relative distances are known. And that is before the location, the distances to the satellites or the time is known. All calculations can be done with the distances only. Time does not need to be involved at all. (Time differences are used for calculating the relative distances. But after that everything can be calculated in meters.)

2.but in four-dimensional spacetime,
Because all calculations can be done with distances allone, I would not call it four-dimensional spacetime, four-dimensional does give the suggestion of relativity concepts and Lorenz transformations. Allthough relativety plays a role it is not needed to explain the principle.

As said I still have to read everything carefully, but am thinking about the following. This is not worked out and I am typing while making it 'up'. The numbers still have to be worked out, so the numbers only are for illustration, as the placenames, because I still have to construct a nice example.

An example how GPS works using a more earth based example.
The following example is based on the surface of the earth and therefore 2D, but the principle is the same. A similar problem as the GPS problem is the following. You are in Great Britain, at an unknown town, but you know the distance from the town to Birminham is 100 km more than the distance to London. Also the distance to Bath is 30 km more than the distance to Londen. Where are you?

You could try to use Google earth to solve the problem. Offcourse the distance to Birmingham is 70 km more than the distance to Bath, but this does is not extra information.

How can this problem be solved.
1. Use google earth and with trial and error you can get closer and closer to the solution.
2. Set it up in an x,y grid (where distances are 'equal' in both directions), and use calculations to solve this problem. There are a number of algoritms for this. (An iteration with circles is possible, an iteration with hyperboles is possible, pseudo calculation is possible).
3. Take a car and a GPS and drive towards the direction that the distances are matching the problem. (This can be done theoretically in a computer as well, so you do not need a car).
4. Use a spreadsheat of 100 by 100 and use a grid to do the calculations. Make the spreadsheat so that you can move the coordinates and zoom in and zoom out.

If for example the given 0.0 is exactly at Greenich, Londen is at ..., Birmingham is at ... and Bath is at ..., with

This example can be extended to a 1D solution. Where only the relative distances to two towns is known, but you know that your are on the costline of Britain, so there are only two points that fit.

For the first example (London, Birmingham, Bath) there are actually two solutions, but I intend to set up the problem so that on solution falls within Britain and the other in the sea.

What is different in the example from a GPS. Satellites are moving, but for a single calculation they are considered to be at one point. An Extra salellite is needed because we live in a 3D world. Measuring is done by measuring the time between the signals. In the example the technique how to measure the distances to the towns is not given. Mathematically the problems are the same, with the town example (2D) it becomes hyperboles on the map where you are, in space (3D) they are hyperboloids.

If there are errors in measuring the distances, these can result in larger errors for your location. Having more towns will confirm you correct position and can give greater accuracy. Different Geometries will give different accuracies. As with GPS with the minimum number of satellites needed, there are always two solutions, but one can be discarded easely.

As said this will take some thinking of my side and some figuring out towns and distances so that they are correct. Crazy Software Productions 18:44, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

A real example : Three locations, Iron Bridge, Severn Bridge, London Tower Bridge.

Iron Bridge 52 37 38.48 N 2 29 7.54 W
Severn Bridge 51 34 20.66 N 2 41 30.20 W (117741.64 meters further than Iron Bridge from the location)
Tower Bridge 51 30 20.07 N 0 4 31.32 W (13644.40 meters further than Severn Bridge from theMetino84 (talk) 23:02, 3 November 2009 (UTC) location)

Question what is the location ?

I must honestly say, that I do not know how difficult it is to actually find the location using for example Google earth. Maybe another example is better ?

So something allong the line of this. As you can see this once the relative distances are known, time does not have to be involved. Crazy Software Productions 18:44, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Bulgarian flag 1878-1944[edit]

Dear Denelson83, you have uploaded the following version of the Bulgarian National flag, allegedly from the period 1878-1944:

Flag of Bulgaria.svg

In fact this type wasn't Bulgarian National banner (also a State banner, because Bulgaria didn't have particular state type) in the period mentioned above. The Bulgarian National flag was described in the Tarnovo Constitution of 1879 as follows:

  • Art. 23. The Bulgarian people's flag is three-coloured and consists of white, green and red colours, placed horizontally. (Source, Tarnovo Constitution of 1879, Juridical Encyclopedia, in Bulgarian.)

There wasn't a golden lion on red square in the upper corner. Such practice didn't exist even unofficially. According to the Bulgarian Heraldry and Vexillology Society the National flag consisted of only three coloured stripes, see here. However, according to the same organization there was an ensign with golden lion on red square in the upper corner in this period, but this was the Naval ensign of Bulgaria, see here. Therefore I want to ask you to replace this inaccurate version of the Bulgarian flag with the actual historical one:

Flag of Bulgaria.svg

There are numerous historical articles in English Wikipedia, which show the Bulgarian Naval ensign instead of Bulgarian National flag, so I think this case is important. This replacement has been already done in the article Flag of Bulgaria.

Accept my greetings, Dimitar Navorski 03:05, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Please, excuse me for my mistake. I don't now how I could rename such kind of file. Is it possible for you to rename the first image as "Naval ensign of Bulgaria 1879-1944"? I'l be very thankful. - Dimitar Navorski 03:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
I've uploaded the same image under its right name Naval Ensign of Bulgaria (1878-1944), but I'm new in Wikimedia Commons so I don't have the right to rename older files. - Dimitar Navorski 04:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Green[edit]

I'm not sure. I had the same thought about it looking odd without green, but the problem is that green typically means "go." All of the other colors are supposed to signify a problem, red for deletion, orange for content issues, etc. I'd suggest posting a message to Wikipedia talk:Template standardisation. Cheers. --MZMcBride 23:00, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Denelson83. You added 'id="colorcode"' to the white background div box that surrounds our examples at Wikipedia:Article message boxes. That id isn't listed at Wikipedia:Catalogue of CSS classes so I could not figure out what it is for. So I am curious for what purpose you added it?

Fair use rationale for Image:Theweathernetwork1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Theweathernetwork1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Inkscape[edit]

Hi Denelson,

Well, I'm back, at least part time for a while. I was wondering if you knew how to convert PDF or Word documents to SVG images. I'd like to make an SVG version of the IPA chart I made last year.

Thanks,

kwami 07:18, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Sigh* Oh well. Actually, it's a PNG image, and it's type, which would make it a bitch to trace. (Not everyone can display the glyphs properly, so it's included as a backup chart.) kwami 07:29, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! That should help. kwami 07:39, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Correcting wrong information that you put on wikipedia[edit]

Unspecified source for Image:1000Hz.ogg[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:1000Hz.ogg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:40, 10 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Oldak Quill 02:40, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Changing an svg flag you created[edit]

I added some maritime flags to the Sail Racing Rules page. Some of them, Hotel for example, don't have the 1 pixel border around them which makes them difficult to read in table form and against the light blue background but others, like Alpha do. Can I change the image or would you rather do it? Some of the flags you created have a "pencil line border" as it were, and some don't and I think the border is preferred for the International maritime signal flag set. I'm asking since you created them and I haven't done any editing in commons before. If I do edit, do I just upload over the old? Thanks. HeadSnap (talk) 21:29, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

That's great. I didn't know about the border option for images so I'll update the images on the page accordingly. Sure saves time recreating the images. HeadSnap (talk) 00:06, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

WAAS images[edit]

Hey again, just wanted to coordinate with you on two things

  1. I removed the thumbnail size on the waas service area image because of a feature built into the wikipedia software. Each person can define the size they want thumbnails rendered at based on the size of their display screen (24" lcd or 3.5" iphone). But when a thumbnail size is defined in the article (i.e. "300px") the renderer will ignore the user's settings and display at that size. People can always click to view full size. I hope this is OK by you.
  2. I saw that you added the old WAAS logo back in. I'd actually removed that in the past because, as far as I can tell, they no longer use that logo. The image itself was pretty small and I tried to find a bigger one but couldn't. Now I could be completely wrong but...
    • Could you do some searching and, if you find it's still used, change the image out for a higher resolution one? If not, how about we remove it?

Thanks and I really appreciate your contributions! - Davandron | Talk 14:58, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:M6 Logo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:M6 Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Regnant[edit]

In response to this edit summary -- you have it right. :) A queen regnant is the ruling body, rather than just the wife of the guy who rules; a queen consort is only called "queen" by virtue of being married to the king. (It's not clear, but Endymion is probably a king consort. I guess their political power might be more evenly-balanced than that, but it seems unlikely.) --Masamage 01:12, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

EMP Proof[edit]

I'm new to wiki; let's see if I can leave a message here! This is the basic concept, but I have no idea where to get references: After an EMP event, my horse and buggy will still work, my truck might work, and my computer will probably be fried. There is some ISO testing in cages for electronics certification in Farady cages with sparks and arcs, but I don't think anyone has tried a buggy or the plethora of other essential devices that could be rated. Some are really big! Will the city's water plant still work? That is usually the first thing that one tries to restore, because the hospital does not work without water. This assumes an ordianry (not EMP) disaster observation (Kansas ice storm), where one expects the hospital to shift over to a generator while one deals with the crisis. Perhaps the Rand Corporation (Dr. Strangelove) has already produced a report, but I doubt that we can see it or reference it. Nukeh (talk) 14:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Lib-can.png[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lib-can.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 00:15, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Image:Radio_Canada_International.png[edit]

I have tagged Image:Radio_Canada_International.png as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Need Assistance to Repost an Article Flagged For Speedy Deletion[edit]

Denelson83,

I am brand new with Wikipedia. On February 8, 2008, I posted an article for Reid Supply Company that had too many external links, was flagged as advertising and was speedily deleted before I understood how to use it. I corrected the problem with the Reid Supply Company submission and am ready to resubmit. How do I re-submit the information?

I tagged the submission with the "hangon" tag, but must have accidentally overwrote the new submission. I tried contacting KurtRaschke who originally flagged my article for deletion, but have not received a response since early February. Your contact information was also associated with the speedy deletion, so I am now contacting you.

Please let me know what I need to do to "unblock" Reid Supply Company and repost a more Wikipedia-friendly submission.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Gpalmer7 (talk) 15:30, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Gpalmer7

Thanks and A Few More Questions[edit]

Denelson83,

Thank you for the tip about resubmitting the Reid Supply Company article. I'll give it a try when I'm finished editing it. I tried to resubmit it before, but I got the message "You are editing a deleted page" warning.

Where can I find the code to create a company block like on the W.W. Grainger page? My article is complete, but I would like to have a company block with internal links (Slogan, Year, Type) and external link to our web site. I would also like to know how to create the section headers (See Also, References, External Links). I have been searching on Wikipedia, but haven't been able to find the information I'm looking for.

Thank you for your assistance.

Gpalmer7 (talk) 18:15, 14 March 2008 (UTC)GPalmer7

Reid Supply Company[edit]

Denelson83,

OK, about this conflict of interest thing....how do you suppose Grainger, MSC, McMaster-Carr or any other company gets their information with propriary logos on Wikipedia? You can't tell me that the general public out of the goodness of their hearts are going to do company research, pull propietary logos and information and post it on Wiki. If they didn't post the information themselves, they hired and paid a third party to do it. From what I've heard, that's how the game is played.

Reid Supply Company has been in business for 60 years and I was trying to present that information on Wiki. I made the initial mistake of having the original article more of a marketing piece instead of information. I re-wrote it with facts, no marketing copy. If I can't post information about Reid Supply, can I send you the information as an unbiased person and you post it? I can assure you that the information is accurate.

Re: Panamax - "dubious!"?[edit]

Hi. I'm just wondering in what way is that dab dubious in any way? Panamax is a brand of generic pain relief medication popular within the Asia/Pacific region (ie. Australia). Given that referencing a dab is nothing short of ridiculous, I'd like to know how a user searching for the effects of "Panamax" (let's assume they don't understand "paracetomol") is going to get there from a page about shipping widths? Dab'ing brands when another article by the same name exists is not uncommon. If you feel that this is a rather irrelevant dab, then please be more specific in an edit summary than a term such as "dubious" - expand on your reasoning. Thanks. Re: WP:MFD/Alkivar[edit]

I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks, but I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly for sending you into that buzz-saw. When I asked you to post that request for me, I did it because I was afraid that a newbie non-admin posting such a request might not be taken as seriously. I did not realize that Alkivar apparently still bears the unconditional and unquestioning support of a number of senior admins on Wikipedia. Based on the policy statement from WP:USER which I cut-and-pasted into the MFD, I could not comprehend how anyone would begrudge me my request to remove the most pointedly offensive parts. As I said, I was unaware, and I'm sorry. Bullzeye (Ring for Service) 01:28, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Typo redirect ZIP:00601[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on ZIP:00601, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because ZIP:00601 is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting ZIP:00601, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Speedy deletion of Image:BCMap-doton-Victoria.png[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Image:BCMap-doton-Victoria.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:BCMap-doton-Victoria.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Help at Sailor Moon.[edit]

Hey chief, I'd like to enlist your aid in helping me make Collectonian understand that Hitoshi Doi and Fansview are reliable sources for the edits she's marked as "vandalism" of mine. If you could take a look over there, I'd appreciate it. I'd certainly like someone who is a administrator to weigh in since she's being quite tendentious all over wikipedia of late. Kyaa the Catlord (talk) 08:11, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

If you are gonna ask for help, don't freaking lie about it. I did not mark it as vandalism, I asked you to discuss it on the talk page to show why you feel it meets WP:RS when the site itself does not give any such indication it does. Instead, you just reverted with no summary and ran around whining about it. Its a GA article, you don't want to prove the sources are reliable, fine, let go to GAR or delisting. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 08:14, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Yes, because supplemental citations for a reliably sourced statement that support the original citation's statement should be challenged and tagged on sight. And, for the record, I guess you did not label me a vandal. I read that incorrectly and I apologize. I still question your action in reverting my edit and continue to state that the sources are reliable. Kyaa the Catlord (talk) 12:57, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Monarchy of Canada questions of admin actions[edit]

Can you explain your actions here? They seem clearly strange.

  • Two idiot editors were engaged in a lame content dispute about image positioning. They were clearly edit waring. Both were blocked for a week. G2bambino (talk · contribs) and PrinceOfCanada (talk · contribs)
  • The matter was discussed on ANI [1]
  • You unblock ONE of the [participants.http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=block&page=User%3APrinceOfCanada] # 03:47, 24 September 2008 Tiptoety (Talk | contribs) blocked "G2bambino (Talk | contribs)" (account creation blocked) with an expiry time of 1 week ‎ (Disruptive editing: right back at it with User:PrinceOfCanada on Monarchy of Canada)the next day (fair enough)
  • You protect the article 08:01, 25 September 2008 Denelson83 (Talk | contribs) m (Protected Monarchy of Canada: Edit warring / Content dispute ([edit=sysop] (indefinite) [move=sysop] (indefinite))) Why? The edit war has (by your own reckoning) stopped. Indeed one of the participants remains blocked
  • You then edit the protected article back to the version preferred by PrinceofCanada [2] - because in your (content judgement) that version is "correct".

Why did you unblock ONE participant? (actually I've no big problem with that) Why did you protect an article if the edit waring had stopped? And why did you edit a protected article - one you had protected - to the version preferred by the editor you unblocked? And what is the justification for keeping the article protected at the version you preffer? See also m:The Wrong Version. Oh, just for the record, I've never had an interest in the content of the article - and don't care about the lame edit war over images itself.--Scott MacDonald (talk) 08:01, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I have been discussing this situation with PrinceOfCanada on IRC. I can give you the transcript of my conversation with him if you wish.

He claims his edits were following the Manual of Style, which I consider to be "the ultimate consensus".

Also, I didn't unblock G2bambino because he stated that he had left Wikipedia (m:Right to vanish). However, he is now unblocked as well.

-- Denelson83 08:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

You still needlessly protected an article, and then edited it. I think whether it was MOS was precisely the content dispute - so basically one side persuaded the protecting admin "on IRC" to revert a protected article to his version. Have you any idea how bad this looks?--Scott MacDonald (talk) 09:14, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Okay. So how am I supposed to handle this type of situation again in the future? PrinceOfCanada asked on #wikipedia, which is where I normally hang out, if an admin could help him with a problem he needed solved. I was apparently the only admin paying attention there. -- Denelson83 09:22, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Firstly don't protect an article unless there is a live edit war (and I suggest you unprotect it now). Once you've acted as an admin and protected an article, then it stays at the protected version until the dispute is resolved through normal dispute resolution. Never edit a protected article, unless to remove a clear BLP violation. Once you've acted as an admin, you need to stay aloof from content issues. If you want to take sides in the content disputes, then you must not use admin tools. You need to decide whether to help as an admin or as an editor - not both. If Prince is correct, then dispute resolution is where he needs to go. As I say, I've no particular problem with the unblocking, although you should probably have noted in in the ANI discussion.--Scott MacDonald (talk) 09:29, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Already done. The article is no longer protected. -- Denelson83 09:41, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I also strongly disagree with your unblock, and would have liked to have at least known about it. Please understand that the block was not simply to protect that one article but to protect a whole range of articles that were being disrupted by G2bambino along with PrinceOfCanada, and simply protecting that article is not going to solve this long standing dispute. Also, only unblocking one half of the participants really tells one that their actions are acceptable but the others are not when they both equally edit warred. Either way, I will not wheel war but I would like to note my disagreement with your unblock. Tiptoety talk 15:34, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I'd also like to say that you've left the article in PrinceOfCanada's preferred version, which is non-neutral. You may agree with PoC's position, but your discussion with him remains out of the public sphere, leaving your views unknown, and we are guided to maintain the status quo while disputed edits are being discussed; there was a consensus on that page before the dispute began. Rest assured that returning it to that point does not restore the version I want; I'm now well aware that what sat before was incorrect per WP:MOS, but will leave it alone until we can decide on exactly what to do. --G2bambino (talk) 15:43, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

CSS IPA vowel chart[edit]

The "superfluous markup" you removed is needed on the Wikimedia Commons side to link back to the Wikipedia articles explaining the height and backness values. If it's removed on this side, the difference should be documented in the comment at the top so it can be preserved in future edits. Since it doesn't hurt anything to keep it, though, I figured it was best to leave as much as possible identical. Would you mind reverting this edit?

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article AM Radio (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

non notable band

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Canadian weather radar network[edit]

Hi,

Good job putting the coordonates on this article. I had to change back the coordonates of Lac Castor as there was an error in the call letters that confused you. Lac castor is CWMB (north of Quebec City at 48N 70W) and Marion Bridge is CXMB (on Cape Breton at 45 N 60W). I cleared that confusion too. Keep the good work.

File source problem with File:Vanisle.png[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Vanisle.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:37, 13 January 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:37, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Templates for commons move 'auto-tag'[edit]

These are a list of protected templates, on which the commons auto tag applied to other Image licensing tags (such as to PD-Self) would be desirable,

Some image stemplates media have been omitted because of specfic details, making an auto-tag unwise. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:03, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah! Promote Commons. Unfortunatly this will overflow Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons. Not all of these images can be copied to Commons right away, the images first need to be checked for proper author and source. Maybe create another category to seperate these images from images tagged with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}? multichill (talk) 13:35, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

SMPTE Color Bars[edit]

Thanks for pointing out the possible copyvio in uploading an image of a waveform monitor from a website. Perhaps I can just take one myself and upload it through Commons. Have you done this before, and if so, can you please advise on the requirements? --Thomprod (talk) 13:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

I was wondering how you came about the color levels on your SMPTE color bars. Now I can't vouch for IrfanView's SVG translator, but it seems that the levels are off by a few counts. Our company's video test pictures don't match yours. Please contact me ASAP on most networks as bubblecdn. Hansschulze (talk) 23:45, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Move to commons auto tag -[edit]

OK

Following some disscusions , the issue with {{self}} are solved...

However, there are some cleanup issues that need to be done because of some goings on during the discussions..

i) http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:CommonsEncouraged&oldid=265274253 needs to be restored to be the live version of that template.

ii) http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Self/sandbox&oldid=265691710 should become the live version of self.

iii) Instances of Self using an additonal |commons= at the end will need to be converted because of the 'fix', which was to allow for example {{GFDL|commons=<param>}} to be passed to {{self}} instead of just GFDL as at present.

Once these changes are made , the migration from manual {{move to commons}} tagging , should expect for a few specfic licenses/ cases be completed :)

)

Hopefully this should reduce the number of 'free' images on enwiki that should be on Commons :)

Leave a note on my talk page, if you have questions, or when the above edits are done :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:22, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Consensus?[edit]

Hello, I see that on January 20 you made edits to numerous templates by adding the {{CommonsEncouraged}} tag without any consensus to do so. We now have incorrectly licensed imaged not only being tagged with "Images from works of this type are candidates to be copied to the Wikimedia Commons using the Transwiki process." but also being added to Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons. Please consider reverting all of your changes until there has been a community discussion on this change. As this seems to have been been done with Sfan00 IMG I am posting a message on their page as well. Thank you. Soundvisions1 (talk) 15:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
NOTE: see User talk:Neurolysis and User talk:Sfan00 IMG for discussion(s). Also I did not see the ""Templates for commons move 'auto-tag'" thread above, however there is no consensus to make the change there. Soundvisions1 (talk) 16:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

I've reverted those templates as per the above concerns. DS (talk) 20:25, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Timeline of spaceflight[edit]

Hi. I noticed you unilaterally changed the timezones in timeline of spaceflight articles. When making changes like this, particularly if they affect this many pages, they really should be discussed first. This is the second time I have raised a concern about your editing in the last week, and I am particularly concerned that I am having to raise such issues with an administrator, who I would expect to have known better. --GW 07:23, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

WWVB and "on time marker"[edit]

I'm pretty sure I'm right, so I want ahead and reverted your changes, but your input is still appreciated. Technically, the "on time marker" is an instant, not a second; it's the instant of the leading (falling) edge of the :00 marker bit. (Think of someone saying "start the countdown on my mark... mark!") See http://tf.nist.gov/stations/wwvbtimecode.htm and its arrow to "On time point A." Thus it's a bad name for the leading marker bit, as it's just similar enough to be confusing. Just below the diagram, though, there's a list of time code bits:

  • 1 PPM frame reference markers
  • Binary-coded decimal year and time-of-year code word (31 bits)
  • 6 PPM position identifier markers (P0 thru P5)

That suggests to me that "frame reference marker" is an official name for the leading bit. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 00:10, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

I'd also like to question this edit. Do you really think that's a better explanation of the DST bits? While the DST1/DST2 definition isn't the same phrasing that NIST uses, it is equivalent and seems extremely unambiguous. This is a stylistic matter, not a factual one, so I'm not going to start an edit war over it, but I'm not sure that's an improvement. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:32, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Er, what do you mean "as of 00:00Z today" and "as of 24:00Z today" don't make any sense? Could you explain in more detail; they seem perfectly sensible (not to mention simple, clear, and absolutely unambiguous) to me. Um... Are you perhaps unfamiliar with the ISO 8601 time format I'm using for clarity and conciseness? 00:00Z means the beginning of the day, Zulu (UTC) time. 24:00Z means the end of the day. Bit 58 is set if and only if DST is in effect at the beginning of the day. Bit 57 is set if and only if DST is in effect at the end of the day. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:52, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Also, what the **** do you have against this edit, which you also reverted? 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:58, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay, call me confused. The separate bits definition very much does match the definition in the graphic. If you say that it doen't match, could you give an example situation when they would produce different results? I agree the words don't match, but that's the point: two equivalent definitions let the reader pick whichever they prefer. And ISO 8601 is the standard for writing dates and times unambiguously. As Date and time notation documents, the only formal standard that differs is RFC2822; RFC2445 and RFC3339 both use ISO 8601-compatible syntax. (Date and time notation by country varies greatly in year-month-day ordering, but not much in time notation.) It's extremely widely used, particularly by people working with precision timekeeping — who are also the people who care about the WWVB signal format. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 08:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

re H1N1 map[edit]

"Changing .fr back to .fx: Swine flu hasn't been reported in French Guiana or French Polynesia or New Caledonia or Saint-Pierre et Miquelon yet" Nor has it been reported in Alaska and Hawaii, yet other users insisted on including those. If we are going to include exclaves of one country that is marked on the map, we should include exclaves of all the countries marked on the map. Also, you are incorrect, as ".fr" does not include French Polynesia or New Caledonia or St Pierre et Miquelon. It only includes those areas which are part of France - which includes French Guiana, Reunion, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. So either put back .fr, or remove Alaska and Hawaii. We must be consistent. --Golbez (talk) 05:10, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello Denelson83

The Yuma Almanac for week 521, found at http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/gps/almanacs.htm says that PRN 08 is in orbit and healthy. yet I find it nowhere in List of GPS satellite launches . What is the reason for this? RHB100 (talk) 21:30, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

References for edit?[edit]

Do you have a reference to back up this edit? I have not seen anything indicating that there will be another Delta IV launch this year after WGS-3 in September and that the Block IIF satellites would not launch until next year. As you should know, all additions should be properly sourced to reliable sources, so please rectify this omission. -MBK004 21:32, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

  • Even if WGS-3 wasn't going to be launched first, that date would be impossible. A Delta IV takes about three months to process. Given a WGS launch on 30 September, that would give 22 days for turnaround, which is out of the question (and WGS looks likely to slip into October anyway). --GW 22:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Green Arrow[edit]

Hi Denelson
I notice I just infringed your copyright by using your Arrow icon.svg image with the parameter |link=, which renders it unlinked to the image page, like Arrow icon.svg, thus probably not fulfilling your GFDL/CC-BY-SA attribution request.
It's being used thusly at the Wikipedia:Article wizard2.0 ff., by way of a template, and since it's used on buttons where newbie editors are supposed to click without ending up at the image page, it really needs to be linked to the target page.
This leaves me with two options, to get myself off the hook: I either replace the image on the buttons with one that has no attribution requirements, or I convince you to waive your attribution requirement, either for that template or completely. :)
Since yours is really the most beautiful right-pointed arrow and I would very much like to keep using it, would you consider the second option and spare me painting my own arrow? :)
Thanks for thinking about it, and no worries if you decide to stick with your original license.

PS I made some (actually quite a bit of) additions to the Departure Bay article you started. Tell me what you think.

About the Ferries "weasel" wording. I wasn't sure how to change it. I would consider "similar" to be a bit misleading in the opposite direction, because, of the little bit of (off computer) BC Ferries history I've read, it was actually meant to be different (due to the labour difficulties at the time and the nature of the service). Would you be okay if I added "alternative to," as that drops the value judgment (as your "similar") does, but does not imply that the structure / intent of the Crown corp. was meant to be "similar" to the private corps? Other ideas?

SVG version of File:Flgraphic.png[edit]

In September 2008, you requested an SVG version of File:Flgraphic.png. I made such a version today with Inkspace and Emacs. The PNG file is 29365 bytes; the SVG is 39326 bytes but gzip compresses it to 5685. Before uploading this, I'd like to verify the licence. The PNG has been tagged as being in the public domain in the United States, but what does that mean for me in the EU? Was the picture published by the US government and when? The PNG has been derived from File:Flgraphic.jpg, but that one has apparently been deleted from Wikipedia and I can't find any copyright information about it. 85.23.32.64 (talk) 18:15, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

The JPEG may have been scanned from some paper published by NACO. Their FAQ says that their publications are in the public domain but warns against using expired data. Because the graphic has no date on it saying when it was in effect, I'm not going to upload the SVG. Thanks for your help. 85.23.32.64 (talk) 10:20, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Marine VHF radio[edit]

Hi Denelson83,

May I ask why you keep removing my text added to the wiki Marine VHF page? I have done extensive testing of marine VHFs and am an authority in the field in the US. The comments I added are not spam, they are up to date additions to the otherwise fairly antiquated wiki page. I mean, common on, the radio photo featured is over five years old. That is simply an eternity in the marine electronics area. I'd post a good recent radio photo, but am not sure how to do. Nor do I want everything I do ripped down because you think it is spam. I think the links out to my site add significant material for those interested in this subject matter.

Thanks,

Republic of China (Taiwan)[edit]

Hello, The Republic of China (Taiwan) is forced to compete under Chinese Taipei as its designated title. However, I believe it's not just my freedom of speech, but along with the 23 million Republic of China citizens and any loyal supporters of the ROC and Taiwan. In 2009, the ROC (Taiwan) hosted two international sports events: the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games and the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics. Both times, the President of the ROC opened the games as the President of the ROC (not as Chinese Taipei). The IOC requests that the ROC (Taiwan) use the title Chinese Taipei for international sports events and NOC committees. The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee respects the IOC decision (which is truly the pressure from the PRC and their disgustful acts of bullying)and follows the policies (i.e. using the Chinese Taipei Olympic flag, using the Chinese Taipei title, and using the Republic of China Flag anthem to sub for the National Anthem of the ROC); however, citizens, the government, and etc. don't belong or fall under the direction of the IOC. Thus, the ROC government and its citizens have the complete right to use the title the Republic of China (Taiwan) and to bring in our national flag into these sporting events, and so anybody else. There is also confusion between the PRC (Communist mainland) and the ROC (Taiwan) for most foreigners and westerners. The title and explanation of the usage of "Chinese Taipei" is usually altered to imply that the ROC (Taiwan) belongs to the PRC (mainland). For example, the Mandarin translation of "Chinese Taipei": in the mainland would be 中國臺北 (Zhōngguó Táiběi), but the correct translation in the ROC (Taiwan) and internationally should be 中華臺北 (Zhōnghuá Táiběi). As a Chinese/Taiwanese-Canadian living in Vancouver, I'm hoping that you can respect the freedom of speech and human rights by allowing the "Republic of China (Taiwan) - competes as Chinese Taipei" or similar to be the title of the ROC under the Participating Nations for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics article. WWV time code format diagram[edit]

What is the reference for the -15dB and -30dB levels of 100Hz?

The various PDFs I've found at the NIST site, for example http://tf.nist.gov/general/pdf/1383.pdf (Jan 2002) and http://tf.nist.gov/general/pdf/1969.pdf (Jan 2005), speak only of "75% modulation". There is no indication that there is any 100 Hz in the red periods in your diagram.

Nevertheless, a sonogram of a recent capture of WWV does show that 100 Hz is continuous through the second interval. The only time I see it absent is during the minute marker.

The not-quite-"off" state seems, though, to be 20 dB below the "on" state rather than 15.

I understand that this was changed at one point, but I'm pretty sure it was prior to 2002. Jeh (talk) 07:19, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Table in WWV[edit]

Thanks for the correction but I am still working on the table. Could you hold off for a bit so our edits don't cross? Jeh (talk) 03:32, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Ok, done now. Thanks again, I had fixed other errors but had not caught that one! Jeh (talk) 03:56, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the colors in the new WWV (radio station) table. I was thinking about them myself. Now to do the minute chart similarly. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 21:40, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

File:Open-mid front rounded vowel.ogg[edit]

Hi Denelson!

It seems that this file is not describing the sound /œ/ (as stated on its description page, and on Commons categories), but the sound /ø/.

As you are able to speak French, you would be welcome to discuss that with us on wikt:fr:Wiktionnaire:Wikidémie/juillet 2010#Sons représentant /œ/ et /ø/ dans Annexe:Prononciation/français#Tableau de l’API (on the french Wiktionary).

Really it's a good thing to record pronunciations, and I'm not in mind of discouraging to do it. But if there is a mistake we should correct it, to make Wikimedia projects more accurate. Thanks in advance for your help. --GaAs (d) 18:10, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to be so Dense[edit]

Sorry to be so dense--and thank you for your help so far--but I just can't seem to find your source. I followed your link and ended up with several conflicting tables (I tried reconciling this one: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm300/L002.htm to your table and quickly made a mess of things. I'm selling something online that I'm not allowed to sell to people in certain states and to prevent people from lying about their state, I need to check their state against their ZIP. I could get in big trouble with 'the man' if my list isn't correct. I'd prefer to use your table, but need an official source in case someone asks, So, again, I'm sorry to be such a PIA but I could really use your further help. Many THANKS! Request for Permission to Use of Compass Rose Graphic in my Thesis[edit]

Hi Denelson83,

I have found one of your graphics of the compass rose very useful for illustrating sectors (defined by me for the purposes of my particular study) in my thesis. In the case of my work, I have studied historic German-Russian farmsteads in the Dakotas. To discuss the placement of various buildings and features, I have divided the compass rose in to 8 sectors which are based upon the 32 direction azimuths. I would like to use your image with my modifications in my thesis. The image I am referring to is this image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Compass_Card.png

I don't particularly understand the licensing agreements regarding GNU Free Documentation. I posted a query at the WikiCommons help desk and there it was suggested that I would be best off asking you for the permission directly. I do not want to commit copyright infringement by not completeing my end of any user agreement due to my confusion. My thesis will be available at my school (the University of Southern Mississippi) and could be accessed by library users, as well as through interlibrary loan and possibly via the dissertation and thesis database known as ProQuest. In addition, I am providing copies of the thesis (when complete) to the pertinent historical societies, as well as the landowner's whose farmsteads I studied.

Would you grant me permission to you your compass rose image with my drawings? If you wish to see my modifications I will gladly email it. My modifications are not very sophisticated. I drew in the sectors with a pen and a straightedge across your image, scanned that image and then using photoshop elements, labeled my sectors - N/NE/E/SE/S/SW/W/NW and with those direction labels included the degrees they included.

I appreciate any help you could lend.

Sincerely

Friesweg

P.S. If you would allow me permission to use your images, would it be possible for us to correspond with email? I would need to include the offical permission email as an appendix to my thesis.

Proposed deletion of Head Bay Road[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Head Bay Road has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced article that does not establish notability and consists of a couple of sentences and a template.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Admrboltz (talk) 04:46, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Unspecified source for File:Lib-can.png[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Lib-can.png.

Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? 117Avenue (talk) 05:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

British Columbia Highway 4[edit]

Hi, Denelson83.

The Alaska section of the Haines Highway has always been Highway 7, the BC section has never had an official designation, and the Yukon section was originally known as Highway 4 until 1978, when it was changed to Highway 3. Various maps, including official maps issued by the highways branch in British Columbia, have illustrated a number to the BC section, even if it was not official. The Klondike Highway is similarly unnumbered between Alaska Highway 98 and Yukon Highway 2, but it is maintained by the Yukon government as if it were part of Yukon Highway 2. A B.C. section of the Alaska Highway is also Yukon-maintained, between Swift River and Morley River, Yukon (miles 737-777), while a Yukon section between Iron Creek and Contact Creek (miles 590-596) is maintained by Public Works Canada as a B.C. section of the highway. Pennsylvania flag[edit]

Hey, I'm Hunter Kahn. I currently have a Pennsylvania-related article before FAC and a question came up recently about the image of the Pennsylvania flag, which had appeared in the article because of its use in an infobox template. The FAC reviewer pointed out that file has no author info (see the link for it above). I see you were the original uploader of that image. Is the author info something you could help me out with on that, by any chance? Let me know. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 18:53, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:NRC Time Signal.ogg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. editing the DTT progress image on wikipedia[edit]

The image on progress of digitization across the world that you moderate is very helpful. Currently south asian countries are marked in gray - I have digitization status and schedules, but don't know how to update a vector graphics image, nor how to edit images on wikimedia. If you have a link to a newbie page, or if I could give you the data, let me know? Thanks. A rambhia (talk) 16:08, 15 November 2011 (UTC)a_rambhia

Thanks, A rambhia (talk) 19:40, 16 November 2011 (UTC)a_rambhia

Great image - most helpful. However it is inaccurate insofar as South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe are concerned. All show as complted when in fact the conversion has barely begun.

IPA Chart[edit]

Hello! I don't really understand Wikipedia, but the IPA pronunciation guide was a really handy tool. However someone's recorded themselves over two of your files and while it seems they were trying to be helpful, the sound quality is a lot lower and the loss of an IPA vowel guide in a single voice is quite off putting. Also I don't have an account here so I don't think I have a "talk page". Just a heads up I suppose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.178.162.88 (talk) 13:39, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Units don't match[edit]

Referring to your edit summary "Actually, the units do match" as a reply to my edit, removing the phrase:

  • "300 bits/subframe x 5 subframes/frame x 25 frames = 37,500 bits / 50 bps = 750 sec."

The left hand side has "bits/subframe x subframes/frame x frames", which resolves to bits, whereas the right hand is expressed as sec. Surely they don't match.

I assume he meant to say something like:

  • "300 bits/subframe x 5 subframes/frame x 25 frames = 37,500 bits, and 37,500 bits / 50 bps = 750 sec."

That would make the units match. It still would be an utterly ugly statement in an encyclopedia, but at least it wouldn't be wrong. Glad to see that you casted it into a proper sentence. Thanks and cheers. DVdm (talk) 20:35, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Swinomish Channel, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Washington (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your revert to WWV (radio station)[edit]

...was well-founded. I've checked over a few different evenings on different freqs and I can't hear any hint of a "chime" effect. Maybe he was mistaking the seconds tick and/or the 100Hz time code buzz for that. Jeh (talk) 02:44, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

List of flag carriers[edit]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Denelson83,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 05:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Nangking Massacre page/pornographic material.[edit]

Good sir, I believe that a picture on the Nanking Massacre page should be deleted.Just go through all the pictures, and it will be obvious wich one (Its not the decapitated head). Also, it has come to my attention that there are pictures on Wikipedia that could be classed as porn. These should be deleted, as a child at a school using the computer could easily acssess it. I hope that you take measures against that happening.P.S. I have aspergers as well!

Kanji map - new font?[edit]

I'm interested in changing the font on your SVG kanji map (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2230_Kanji.svg) and printing it out, but directly editing the underlying xml caused many of the characters to become misaligned. The font I'd like to use is Meiryo; I just did a simple find-and-replace with every instance of MS PGothic in the document. Do you know how I can change the font without messing up the rest of the formating? Digital infinity (talk) 15:22, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Strathcona Parkway[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Strathcona Parkway has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not establish notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
