Need Help

Dear MichaelQSchmidt, I am robin klein. I came to your userpage through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Coordinatorspage. I am working on thoroughly rewriting and hugely expanding the page children's film/Family film which are largely neglected for years. I have already written much of the text with references to film theorists and film studies sources. The problem is that most film theorist combine children's films and family films into one topic. The ideal thing to do therefore would be to have a single page 'Children's and Family film' where both the currently existing stub Children's film and the stub (which is just a list of films as of now) Family filmcould be redirected. Could you please help in merging the pages Children's films and Family films to the page 'Children's and Family films' along with the articles that are linked to the present pages. There is a lot of text now on what I have worked and is in several pages. The material discusses both Children's and Family film. As I said the ideal would be to have a single page Children's and Family film with both the current pages and all the pages linked to them redirected to the page Children's and Family films. I hope I am not burdening you with much work. If so then should I myself go ahead with this merger? please do tell me. Or else maybe you could ask some one else to help me with this. I am only asking you because I found your name mentioned as a coordinator on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Coordinators page. thanksRobin klein (talk) 05:21, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Seems a reasonable merge. Could you please offer a link to your work in improving the two articles. Thanks, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:51, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear MichaelQSchmidt, Where do you advise me to put up the text for now so that you could see it. Should I put it up on the talk page of either of the current articles (Children's film or Family film) or on either of the articles themselves or on my talk page? Please do tell me. thanks Robin klein (talk) 11:48, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

The absolute best place to put work-in-progress anytime, is in a user subpage or sandbox. If you place the work in User:Robin klein/sandbox/Children's film or Family film, I can take a look at it as soon as the redlink becomes blue. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:54, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear MichaelQSchmidt, I have put up the text for 'Children's and Family film' at the user sub page / sandbox User:Robin klein/sandbox/Children's film or Family film. Now I am adding hyperlinks to the text. Please do go through the whole text and modify, add or delete as needed. Please do help me with a thorough copy edit. It was exhausting writing. Thanks for your help. Cheers!! Robin klein (talk) 06:02, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear MichaelQSchmidt, Are you done with the copy edit at User:Robin klein/sandbox/Children's film or Family film ? Would you please merge the pages children's film and Family film to Children's and Family film or shall I go ahead and do it. thanks for your help. Robin klein(talk) 03:44, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Not done yet. Will advise. Patience. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:51, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Critical reception section of film articles

I observe some edits/reverts happening in film articles like Ustad Hotel, Spirit (2012 film) etc. in the critical reception section. some users put in as bulleted lists/separate lines to improve readability while one user reverts it citing WP:FILM guidelines. I personally feel a separated sentences/bulleted sentences improve the readability. I like to know your views on this and if you agree to my view, can you suggest a change in WP:FILM guidelines for this section ?!
Anish Viswa 06:09, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Well... the format of film articles is directed under MOS:FILM. Itself a subset ofWikipedia:Manual of Style. Looking at Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Bulleted and numbered lists, we see its first caution is "Do not use lists if a passage is read easily as plain paragraphs." While there is an MOS for list articles, inclusion of bullet lists in film articles is generally to be avoided (cast lists being an exception). Prose is always preferable to bullet lists. So the issue goes beyond just WP:FILM. And of a concern, is that when expanding an article, blockquotes and bulleted items are not considered as expansion for a DYK check, even when the information contained in the bullets is massive in quantity. Taking Ustad Hotelas one of the examples given... the bulleted and blockquoted version is 4456 characters (763 words), and the version per MOS is 7429 characters (1272 words). That's a major difference. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:05, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments. Now I modified the critical reception section of Ustad Hotel using simple HTML breaks, to put each review to a new line, which I feel won't add much load. Could you please verify whether this is within Wiki guidelines and acceptable ?
Anish Viswa 09:23, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
THAT set of edits is perfectly aceptable. I often do it just that way myself when expanding articles. Nice job. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 09:26, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Request

I noticed you editing on Requests for Undeletion, and I was wondering if you could either email or userify Personal life of Jennifer Lopez for me. Best, Statυs (talk) 10:06, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Emailed your work back to you. Schmidt,MICHAEL Q. 10:14, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Thank you very much! I have a question for you. For the Contents section of Feelin' So Good, what do you think I should title "track listing"? I am just going to write out the section, rather than have just having a list. I was thinking of synopsis, or something of the sort. Statυs (talk) 10:17, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Always good to have organization that give the MOS preference to prose over lists. Under "video contents" have subsections "Tracks" (as opposed to track listing) and "DVD bonus features". Under "DVD bonus features", have sub-sub sections "Music videos" and "TV appearances". As long as the sections are sourced, it should be no issue. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:10, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure about "Tracks", as not all of its content are tracks - songs. Statυs (talk) 18:42, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Which is why I suggested two sub-headings under contents, and two sub-sub headings under "bonus features"... though for a DVD showing a compilation of music visually, perhaps "video chapters" would be more apporpriate than the "tracks" used for audio CDs. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:50, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
"Video chapters"! Exactly what I need. Thank you. Also, it's perfectly alright if I just basically describe myself a bit of what happens in each chapter, and source the actual DVD? For example, in "Why Risk a Music Career?" she is interviewed by her sister (and throughout the whole video) she discusses the risks of beginning and music career and why she decided to do it. Statυs (talk) 18:52, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Film contents (such as plot) are acceptable as being sourcable to the film itself. Avoiding any OR, the same would be applicable to a music DVD. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:55, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for bugging you so much, but howis it looking so far? Statυs (talk) 19:13, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Time to find an interesting fact from the article and prepare a DYK based upon the expansion. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 23:36, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

... that Jennifer Lopez's first video album Jennifer Lopez: Feelin' So Good provides a documentary-style look at the launch of her music career? Statυs (talk) 23:46, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

NICE. Now go review another so nothing holds up its approval. :) Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 23:55, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Good Witch's Family

I just withdrew the AfD, and sincerely apologize for wasting your time with it. I also thank you for the work you did on the article. Chris the Paleontologist (talkcontribs) 15:51, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the withdrawal, but as I do not consider my efforts a waste of time at all... no apologies are neccessary. If we had a newbie-school where brand new editors could better learn article requirements per MOS, we'd have far fewer things sent to AFD for being poorly written or improperly sourced... and (chuckle) far fewer articles with 1400 word plot sections. Sometimes all we can do is lead by example and encourage their learning. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 16:01, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Mini-Major studios

An argument and edit war has broken out over the Major film studio and Template:Film Studioregarding Mini-major Studios. I was hoping that you are around to lock the article and template. They feel they don't have to source that they are mini-majors and can pick an choose them and canpersonally attack me as being clueless about studios. --Spshu (talk) 18:22, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Take this one to WP:ANI for investigation, protection, and possible blockings. Seems to be a edit war going on and you are correct to insist on proper verifiability of anythingadded to an article. Another's simply "knowing" that a studio is "major" is WP:OR unless verifiable in a reliable source. If someone says something is major or mini-major or minor, and another contests the assertion, the first editor is required per WP:BURDEN to cite perWP:V. That point aside, it seems there is an insistance that Template:Film Studio must reward and list only those studios considered as major within the US and Canada... making it a template that gives a systemic bias to only one part of the world. If THAT is to be its inclusion terms, it should be renamed Template:Major film studios in the United States and Canada. See Template talk:Film Studio. If a template has a (supposedly) defined criteria for inclusion, it should not use a too broad or mis-leading a name, as film studio is a film studio. In the meantime, how about working to expand the parent topic of Film studio? Majors can make crap, no matter their size... and mini-majors and smaller independents can make quality films. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:48, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, all I got a lock on the article for a few hours which didn't do a thing to make them discuss the issue any more. That seem to be the way it works around here. If you wanted your way just drop out of the discussion so things go no where, then claim that there is no agreement (or that it isn't any type of compromise) when even though you make an attempt at compromise.Spshu (talk) 15:15, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Michael -- I know you have an interest in film, not sure if it extends to Bollywood. I'm trying to improve the S. H. Bihari article but I'm having trouble finding on-line sources as the subject died in 1987. Do you happen to have access to any helpful sources for this Hindi lyricist?Pburka (talk) 01:24, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

I will happily withdraw this as soon as it meets the notability guidelines mentioned.--Otterathome (talk) 19:31, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Vanilla Gorilla

Hey Michael. I was wondering if you would take a look at Vanilla Gorilla. I have been trying to find sources for it and it looks like it was supposed to be released in 2009. However, I cannot find anything official, just database links, and it looks like Pierce Brosnan was attached to it through the Rotten Tomatoes link, but I don't see it on his official website. Looks a bit hoaxy, but just hoping you could follow up with it. BOVINEBOY2008 15:17, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

And it looks like it was created by a sock, Magicbullet5, which makes me even more suspicious. BOVINEBOY2008 15:22, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Richard Machowicz page

I respectfully request your help in removing libelous, defamatory and malicious personal attack on the Richard Machowicz page. There are several flat out lies posted on the page about content from his radio show with no viable sources and references. They personal libelous attacks that in the fourth largest media market Houston, Texas, would have resulted in his immediate termination and a firestorm of national media coverage as he is an international media personality. Thank you so much for your time, consideration and assistance. With great respect, Jmmamiller — Preceding unsignedcomment added by 70.139.179.171 (talk) 21:33, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

A favor

Can you take a sec and check out Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dreamstime. I may be wrong but it seems like an over-zealous reaction to the novice missteps of a new editor. The article as it stands can compare to thousands of Company articles. I am strongly against Paid Editors and what they do but I don't believe that is the case here. Thanks for your time. ```Buster Seven Talk 15:40, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Your advice had such a different tone than the others. If nothing else, the new editor was shown the lighter side of the WP Experience. Thanks. ```Buster Seven Talk 22:56, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Eric West

Hi Michael-

I would like to bring the Eric West stub up to where it needs to be. What will I need to do? I don't edit Wiki often so I don't want to do any wrong edits. Though I think it looks decent, what information will I need to add? Thank you. 24.186.99.125(talk) 05:52, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Study WP:BLP to determine the proper way to write about a living person. Information presented must be verifiable in a reliable source. Study WP:RS to determine how Wikipedia determines a source as reliable enough. Remove anything from the article that sounds like a brag. Neutralize its tone to be factual and not in any way "promotional". If a reliable media source says something positive, THAT can be used in a recognition section as a quotation from another. If the article is deleted (as seems possible) come back here and ask me to userfy it for you in auser's sandbox so it can be improved away from mainspace. Do not return it to mainspace until it has been gone over by a more experienced editor to determine if it has been properly improved and sourced. Understand that as a person gains coverage notability becomes easier to source. Sometimes, even with images slapped all over the internet, a lack of actualy coverage in reliable sources indicates a separate article might still be TOO SOON.Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 16:18, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Michael-

I get it. Even though it's just a stub. I don't know why it would be deleted with all of the attention he's getting, but I will work on trying to make it better for Wiki.24.186.99.125 (talk) 15:41, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

The Barnstar of Integrity
A barnstar for your efforts I've noticed in AfD discussions to counter potential systemic bias on Wikipedia. It's important that editors understand that non-English language sources are also acceptable to verify information in articles and to qualify topic notability. Northamerica1000(talk)11:27, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. Sometimes newer (and even a few older) editors believe that en.Wikipdia is to beonly about English-only topics or only about English-only notability. To paraphrase what has often been attributed to Edmund Burke: All that is necessary for systemic bias to prosper is for good editors to do nothing. Patient education and explanation is the way to teach that THIS encycyclopedia is to be about more that just Western topics... and that opinions based on WP:UNKNOWNHERE, WP:IDONTKNOWIT or WP:FARAWAY are not per policy nor guideline. Moved Parable to mainspace

Hiya Schmidt! I moved the article to the mainspace and you did a great job! The tone issue seems to be gone. I'm still a little leery of some of the sources remaining on the article, since they seem to be of the non-notable blog type. There's other sources that show notability (NPR, etc), but I'm always a little skittish around blogs as sources since they're always one of the most easily attacked sources on any given article.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 03:48, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Problematic, but acceptable behaviors on Wikipedia

Hey there. From our past communications, you mentioned that you're a Wikipedia administrator. I've appreciated your intelligent commentary in our past discussions. If you have a moment, I'd be interested in receiving input from you regarding a recent ANI I created, to receive your perspective regarding the matter I presented therein. Please note that I have absolutely no interest in re-opening the thread, just seeking an opinion from an uninvolved person/admin.

Here's the link (re-titled per the closer's comment in the hat): Nothing to see here unless you want to practice using the show button.

Thanks for your consideration! Northamerica1000(talk)01:07, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

If any editor makes unfounded and negative aspersions against you,[3] the thing to do is to be the better person. The false allegattion lacked any reasonable foundation and the discussion was closed. You own closing statement at Rabbit's ANi was well said. I know this advice may sound trite, but best to let such editors show themselves as disruptive and combative and to never yourself be seen in that manner. That he culled through year-old histories in an attempt to malign you shows his misunderstanding... in that Wikipedia considers "what have you done lately?" arguments to take far more precedent over any "what did you do in the past?" type. Your response there was all the response needed... and it allowed you to catch a glimpse of the mindsets of others who opined there. Your own ANI[4] was unneccessary, but underscored that others are also looking at his problematic behavior.User:Baseball Bugs was on point: Don't let others push goad you.. we all have better things to do here... and eventually any bully will create a problem that will bite them in their own behind.Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:17, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Great response, and thanks for the input. While it's not my nature to go around badmouthing strangers, apparently on Wikipedia it's tolerated. I suppose that's why people consider editing the encyclopedia as sometimes not a part of "the real world." It's all good, and no big deal, of course. The manner in which the statements were stated would be perceived by most as inflammatory, but because Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, naturally this type of nonsense will occur from time-to-time. Maybe there's so much activity at ANI that only very serious matters are considered. In the real world, remarks of this nature would be considered slander. It makes sense that Wikipedia has the policy of Wikipedia:No legal threats, because otherwise, the encyclopedia could break-down due to this type of counterproductive flaming. Northamerica1000(talk)06:33, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

AfD Discussion

Hi Michael, I wanted to get your opinion on whether this BLP articleshould be deleted or not. There is a decently-long deletion discussion in progress on the reliability of the coverage, whether the articles about the subject are promotional, and whether there is sufficient coverage to ensure he fulfills the WP:GNG. You are welcome to express your opinion at the deletion discussion here, but if you would rather not (given that I am participating in it), that's fine. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 00:46, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Closed before I could look in, but I agree with the keep. To aid in future searches, why not add" | other_names= " to the infobox and then include other sourcable versions of he name? No doubt the limitation created by the AFD template's Find sources using only his complete birth name made initial searches quite difficult. Knowing that other searches are reasonable would be a major assist. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 09:22, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Anish Viswa 07:56, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Nice enough, and you could certainly borrow many more from this. But using an equally prolific actor's filmography as an example, you can see that, perWP:CSC, as long as the entry is otherwise verifiable we generally do not require citations if a filmography is itself full of bluelinks. If something without a bluelink to a sourced article were to be challenged, then we would add a citation in answering the challange. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 09:12, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

A Review Request

Hi Michael,

Could you please take a look at the editing behavior of Novaseminary on theDouglas Tait (stuntman) article? A review of the article's history reveals this person has engaged in WP:TE and edit warring for months/years there and has also attempted to delete the article twice. Failing that, this person has also tried to diminish the article by concocting weak and tenuous-at-best disambiguation links[6]. This person's latest effort is insistence on the inclusion of material unearthed from the adult subject's long since passed high school sports career, that clearly violates WP:UNDUE and has no relevance whatsoever to the issue of the subject's notability. This same editor has also removed dozens of links establishing legitimate notability using every available Wikipedia rule as cover, and now does the same in reverse to insist on the inclusion of this irrelevant and unflattering material, all while still fighting against the inclusion of any other material that would provide balance, proportion or even context. Since you have looked at this article before, I request that you do so again. I believe you'll discover that what this editor has been allowed to do to that article, almost singlehandedly and for so long, is a disgraceful abuse of Wikipedia by someone pushing a clear and unmistakable vendetta. I realize Wikipedia considers this to be a very serious charge. But an objective review would find it impossible to arrive at any other reasonable conclusion. Orphaned non-free media (File:Flight of the Butterflies poster.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Flight of the Butterflies poster.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currentlyorphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:12, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

As a result of AFD, article was sent to Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Flight of the Butterflies. As I uploaded the image file, I have deleted it under WP:CSD#F5. File may be undeleted when article returned to mainspace. Schmidt,MICHAEL Q. 06:50, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

What do you think about this one? I have just restored it on request at WP:REFUND from a PROD deletion over five years ago, and am wondering whether I should AfD it. She certainly had a significant child role 15 years ago in The Demon Headmaster (TV series) but since then all I have found is this from which it seems she has been doing occasional student productions and shorts until this "Souljacker" whichdoesn't seem to be a major production. Is the child role enough to keep it in case she goes on to more mainstream things? JohnCD (talk) 16:16, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

One documented role in one television series fails WP:ENT. Lack of any verifiability or coverage in reliable sources fails WP:GNG. While Casting Call Pro lists other projects,[7] even if factual, they are not a reliable source. If the low budget Souljacker seeking funding at indiegoge is made andif determined as notable, we might then consider an article. Happy to AFD this one myself.Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:59, 19 September 2012‎ (UTC)

Saving Mr Banks Incubation

Hello! Numerous reliable sources have noted that Saving Mr Banks has begun filming. Can this be released from incubation? Folks will start to look for an article on the film. Thanks! patchallel 9/20/2012

I know it has begun filming. What will be required is that the article be improved while IN the incubator to reflect the growing coverage, and then tagged for an evaluation. If I see it improved to the point where a decent case can be made that it be an exception toWP:NFF, then I might move it back to mainspace myself... but not if it is still in the same state as when first incubated. Schmidt,MICHAEL Q. 19:55, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback; I'll get to work! Thanks! patchallel 9/21/2012
Michael, I have made numerous adjustments to the article and look forward to your response. patchallel 9/21/2012
Did a few modifications myself, posted an assessment request on the its talk page and have sent it to Category:Articles in the Article Incubator nominated for assessment. The worry will be that even with filming confirmable as having commenced, the release date is estimated to be 2014. THAT will be the sticking point. And by the by... you can automatically sign and timestamp your comments by ending them with four tildes... Hi Michael, I'm working on WikiProject Merge's backlog of pages to be merged after AfD, and I've come across Ron Burgundy. Since you were the first to suggest merging in the article's AfD, I wanted to ask you what material you think should be merged into Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy#Plot. It seems to me coverage of Burgundy is sufficient at that page. I'm inclined to think Burgundy's article should simply redirect, without any actual merging. If you disagree, please let me know what information you think should be salvaged. A reply here will be fine; I'll watch here for a week. Thanks, BDD(talk) 23:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

You might ask the closer, User:The Bushranger, or do a BOLD redirect yourself. I doubt such an action would be contested. I would not oppose such. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:36, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
I'll be bold then. Thanks! --BDD (talk) 16:17, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Glad to have offered advice. Even with respecting the AFd results, in looking at the histories, no one did any merging in the 2-1/2 months since the close. Thanks for asking for a second set of eyes. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 19:45, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Thulasi Nair

Hi,

This is regarding the Afd of Thulasi Nair. The article didn't had any refs when it was nominated for Afd as well as when you voted. After that, I added three references from Times of India, a national newspaper. I believe the references establish notability of the subject. The closing admin didn't considered this and the article has been deleted due to majority at AfD. Here are the three refs:[8],[9],[10]. If you think these refs establish notability, please leave a note atthis discussion at the closing admin's talk page.--Anbu121 (talk me) 09:26, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey Schmidt, I'm just giving you a heads up that I'm nominating an incubated article about a film AfD that you participated in. I figured I'd try to find sources, but there's really nothing out there that isn't non-primary and as such, nominated it to clear out the incubator. What's the point of Too Soon?

Why does Wikipedia:Too soon exist? Why not just link to WP:NOTABILITY and tell people to read the bit at the top? You took what could've been one sentence and stretched into a full essay. "If it doesn't meet the guidelines, then its too soon to have an article." Wouldn't that be simpler and more efficient? Dream Focus 06:48, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Yes it might be... in a perfect world and in a Wikipedia where everyone's understanding of the guidelines is exactly the same. But as guidelines are open to interpretation and exceptions exist, the essay serves to explain what WP:N in its simplicity does not. As an essay, it was written for the same reason as was WP:PRIMER... as a place where guideline is explained in simple terms. Thanks though. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:18, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Help and suggestion for article creation

Michael, what do you think about creating an oceanography-related article on the Mechanics of drifting boats and ocean circulation? I don't know what topic/category this article encompasses, and I'm not quite sure what the title of the article should be, but I feel like there can be an article on drifting boats and how the ocean currents play a role in the movement of stranded/drifting/wrecked boats and how search teams find the survivors on the boats. There are already articles on Ocean current, Flotsam and jetsam, Air-sea rescue, Shipwreck, and Marine debris, but they don't focus on this aspect of the drifting mechanics/survival. There's no article yet on actual drifting boats or the general behaviors/movements of drifting boats, and how search teams search for them using oceanography or by studying ocean currents.

Should this just be added in section(s) to the existing articles, or should a new article be created? Maybe there can be an article on Stranded vessels at sea and these topics can be in that article? I have no idea what the title should be. Sorry, if this is confusing, but what suggestions do you have about creating an article like this? Thanks - M0rphzone(talk) 23:34, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Help with an argument about notability?

Hey Schmidt! Happy turkey day! I'm sorry to have to write here for something other than to wish you a good day, but I wonder if you can help me a little. I'm in a somewhat heated debate onWikipedia:Articles for deletion/12 Peers Theater (2nd nomination) and while I know that you're more film than theater, you are pretty savvy when it comes to reliable sources. It's getting to the point where both of us are getting a little curt, so I'm going to try to walk away now because I'm moving from blunt to sort of rude because I'm getting frustrated. The big thing is that the article for 12 Peers Theater lacks a depth of coverage. There are reviews about productions held in the theater, but I'm a little leery about sourcing the article only with reviews of the productions held in the theater because not every production held in a theater is always done by the theater's workers. There are no sources about the theater itself, just a few reviews about the theater. There are plenty of primary sources, most of which I removed from the article at one point and other than one or two offhand mentions about the theater taking part in a local festival (nothing more than just listing their name with 4-5 others or giving a performance time, nothing in-depth), nobody has covered the theater at all other than Pittsburgh Magazine and a website that also sells tickets to theater performances. (So it's dubious as to whether it'd be considered a RS.) The editor I'm debating with has mentioned other small theaters that were spared through AfD, but I've explained that the big difference is that the article he's mentioned had coverage from multiple sources where 12 Peers Theater only had coverage from one and that one source is almost always not enough to establish notability and a depth of coverage except in very rare circumstances. He's replied that I'm "splitting hairs" and that he doesn't see the difference between one source and three sources. I'm trying really hard to be neutral while typing this, but I'll admit that I'm frustrated. I just think that it was far too soon for it to be transferred out of his userspace. Can you go mediate? If I'm wrong, that's fine, but I honestly think that we need more than a couple of reviews from one magazine to show notability for a recently opened (2011) local Pittsburgh theater.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 05:34, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

It is not expected that a topic possibly notable to Pittsburgh would have world-wide or nationa-wide acclaim. Arguments should be less about whether or not outside reliable sources give the topic "depth of coverage", and be more about whether or not available sources provide enough information that would allow the maintaining of a decently comprehensive article herein. See paragraph 3 of WP:LOCAL. Returning the article to its author is sensible while outside coverage grows is sensible. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:23, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
  • However, if we only have one magazine that is reporting on the subject and they have really only written reviews on performances held at the theater, is that really enough to establish a depth of coverage or notability? The biggest issue here is that the other editor is saying that Pittsburgh Magazine is enough to show notability and that we don't need coverage from other sources. It's not really that the theater hasn't received coverage outside of Pittsburgh as much as that only one source has covered the theater at all and that so far it's routine theater performance reviews.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 10:34, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Do you think this is worth saving? It was tagged for speedy deletion as a hoax because it had been vandalised (more than three years ago!) I took it back to the last good version, from March 2009, and looked at IMDb to see if his career had progressed, but it seems not - I can't find any trace of "The Bond 2",Cheers Butt Productions doesn't seem to have done anything since 2006 and their website says "The company at this present time is not creating any films", and though the top four entrieshere are about him, the first one is a deadlink and the others don't show any significant or recent activity. It doesn't look WP:NACTOR standard to me. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:21, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Courteous catch. Being vandalized does not make the original version a hoax that would qualify for a speedy... only an article that needed returning to a non-vandalized version. But I do not think it worth a save, as the fellow's minimal and unglamorous career seems to failWP:ENT[12] and a lack of any sort of actual coverage fails WP:GNG. I'd support it being removed via AFD. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:38, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Opinion on a bio?

Hi Schmidt! I've got a favor to ask: as a way of compromise on the AfD for Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D, I tried creating a page for the film's director. (Freaking love that title!) I'm just not convinced that he passes notability guidelines. Can you give an honest opinion or maybe work your Schmidt magic in finding sources? I tried, but wasn't really able to find much. A few mentions, but nothing that pushes him to where I'm comfy. In any case, I wanted a second opinion because sometimes I'm a little too picky when it comes to sources and notability. It's at User:Tokyogirl79/James Riffel. Thanks! Redirect suggestion?

Happy Christmas and a gorgeous new year, my friend!Cavarrone (talk) 09:53, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Schmidt! I had a question for you: I was trying to rescue the article Pulse Pounders from the PROD and while I found some sources, they're all for one specific short for the film. I don't know if that's really enough to keep it based on that alone. I did find one more review for the short after questioning the original PRODer about where to redirect to, but again I have to question whether or not we should keep the article when only one part of the film received coverage. Part of me says yes, part says no. That's part of the question, but the other is that if we do redirect this, where should we redirect to? The part of the film that was retrieved was the short of The Evil Clergyman. Should it redirect to that article for the meantime or should it redirect to the director? Or should it redirect to the company that produced it since his films for that company are on a separate entry? I figured I'd drop you a line and ask your opinion.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:00, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Nice rescue of an acceptable stub on what was thought a lost film. But if not kept, best option would be to redirect to and mention in the director's article. Proper also to mention contextually in both The Dungeonmaster andTrancers articles as containing Charles Band short sequel to those two, and in The Evil Clergyman as containing a Charles Band adaptation.Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 10:51, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Winter Wonderland

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, peoples rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension.

Happy Holidays to you and yours. ```Buster Seven Talk 15:39, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

Merry Xmas / Happy New Year

Hi Michael. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours! I've been busy contributing to IMDb this year, and managed to make the top contributors list for the year (#92, with 20,018 edits accepted). I got a free subscription to IMDbPro out of the deal, though I'm not sure what I can do with that... Thank you for the help in getting started over there. I find that that's really where I belonged-- cheerfully digging up and sharing non-notable facts on non-notable films with people who share an interest in the subject. Best regards, and hope you are doing well. Dekkappai (talk) 21:31, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Good for you! Have a great year. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:11, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
