    The editor who moved the article to draft space was doing you a favor. The alternative would be outright deletion of the article. You now have time to work on the article and get constructive reviews by experienced editors to help you bring it up the an acceptable quality for inclusion in Wikipedia mainspace.     @Jedidiahosoba: certainly. First, look at WP:YFA to get some idea of what your article should look like. After you have edited to to get fairly close to what we need, add the following syntax to the top of your article: {{subst:submit}}. This will add a "submit" button to the top of the article. Click on the button to submit the article for review. There are three possible outcomes: "accepted", "rejected", and "declined". If your article is rejected, it stands no chance of ever being accepted, probably because the subject is not notable. If it is accepted, great! the reviewer will move it into mainspace. If it is "declined", you can keep improving it:the reviewer thinks it needs improvement but it is not hopeless, so don't despair. Treat the reviewer's comments as suggestions for improvement, not as criticisms. -Arch dude (talk) 03:59, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating an author page on Wikipedia

    Dear Wikipedia, I am known as Andy F. I am a first time book author. I am also a recovering alcoholic in AA who identifies as an agnostic. God and a higher power are mentioned in 6 of AA's twelve steps. It has been an enormous challenge to get sober in AA. I would like to write an article about getting sober as a non believer. I have written a book called "The twelve steps for agnostics" which I believe will help other atheists and agnostics that come to AA with a desire to stop drinking. I would like to include the URL to my website which is full of blogs about recovery from alcoholism. I would like to do this without breaking any of Wikipedias guidelines. Even though you should be commended for your efforts not only to get and remain sober but also for your desire to help others, it sounds like you're misunderstanding some very important things about Wikipedia.     @MrScoobyAU: Twinkle requires your account to be autoconfirmed (that means, it must have at least 10 edits and exist for 4 full days). I see that you have 10 edits already, but currently still fail the 4 days tenure requirement. Once you meet both requirements, you can enable Twinkle at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets.     Easiest way to request article reassessment?

    There’s an article with multiple WikiProject tags that needs reassessment. At some point in the deep past, you could flag an article in the project tag for reassessment, but I don’t believe that is true any more.     Thanks. I was referring to the assessment over at Talk:Aztec High School shooting, which is tagged by WikiProject Crime, WikiProject Death / Suicide, WikiProject Schools, and WikiProject United States / New Mexico. A long time ago, some projects would use reassessment flags, but I guess it never caught on. The advantage is that any member of a project could reassess an article in the category. That makes the job of requesting a reassessment much easier. My understanding is that without that, you have to go to each project and request it on the talk page, which takes a long time and is unlikely to yield results.     Aileen Cannon

    Cannon heard the case of Trump v. United States, where former U.S. president Trump asked the court to appoint a special master to review the materials seized from Mar-a-Lago in August 2022. On August 27, Cannon signaled she was inclined to grant the motion; two days later the Justice Department told Cannon it had completed its review of materials that may fall under attorney–client privilege.     • You seem to object to some wording in our article Aileen Cannon. You should head over to the talk page of the article, Talk:Aileen Cannon, to make that objection.
    Those sentences are reasonably sourced, so an argument based on "it’s the personal opinion of biased Wikipedia editors" is bound to fail. However, the argument "this sentence gives undue weight to one side" has a better chance of working. Make sure to present reliable sources that say the decision was fine / normal / not exceptional.     Unknown references in article Tapiola

    The article Tapiola cites two references, "Heideman Jr 1975" and "Hertzen 1959" but never explains what they are. They were added by User:Chris fonty in this edit eleven years ago.     Searching for "Tapiola Heideman" gives this, which is dated 1976. I haven't looked at the text, but I guess that either it is the paper referred to, or another work by the same author.     Obviously fake drafts

    How to disable Watchpage box "Mark all changes as seen"?

    I've looked through Preferences and visited the MediaWiki help page (many years stale), but am unable to find a checkbox to remove this annoying box from my Watchpage. I want unseen edits to remain bold, but slow page loading and pressing a misplaced cursor unbolds all edits. This box is something I would never check. Thanks for advice.     Robert Kraft articles

    I am Robert Alan Kraft (Emeritus UPenn faculty), but material relating to Robert K. Kraft (NFL Patriots Team owner), such as pictures of him, appears on my entry (and not my pictures).     Is this showing in Google? The Google Knowledge Graph presents information from different sources and it often looks like it is all from Wikipedia, and we can't control that. RudolfRed (talk) 17:23, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. The same feedback facility is also provided on Bing and some other search engines.

    To answer a little more kindly than the others: If your son, you, or anybody else, chooses to edit Wikipedia without creating an account or without logging in, then Wikipedia uses their IP address to identify that edits. If you don't want his IP address to be seen, encourage him to create an account (it is free, there is no minimum age, and he does not have to - and probably should not - use his real name). If he always logs in, then his IP addrss will not be seen. If you also want to edit Wikipedia, you should create your own account, separate from your son's.
    Wikipedia knows nothing about the people who edit it except what they choose to reveal (which in the case of minors in particular should be very little: see advice for younger editors). It cannot tell whether the person editing is a minor.

    The replies before mine were factual (though not all relevant) but did not in my opinion show any compassion for a person who has clearly been upset and worried by something involving their child. Their complaint may be seen as combative, but that is understandable in the circumstances. I think a supportive answer is more likely to be heard than bald factual ones.     I presume you are talking about the article List of last surviving World War II veterans? It says at the top:

    as of 2021, there are still approximately 240,000 surviving veterans in the United States alone. Only people who are (or were) the last surviving member of a notable group of veterans are listed. (Emphasis added)

    6th Marine Division is clearly a notable group, but a) is your father the last survivor of that division, and b) do you have a reliable published source that says so (not just that he has survived but that he is the last)? If you have, then please post an edit request (see that link for details of how) on the talk page Talk:List of last surviving World War II veterans, with a citation to your source.

    The logo that apprears in the article for WRFA is outdated. I've updated the logo file here, but it is not appearing in the article. Now there is a note informing that a bot is going to delete the previous version.     How to deal with multiple redirects to the same page?

    Here are dozens of redirects to a single article:

    How is it that places like Glenn’s Ferry Idaho are listed as cities but don’t have the population as such

    Hello, Mymccy. I don't know where you get the idea that there is a population requirement for a city. The first reference in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, from the US Census Bureau, lists it as a city.     Dozens of login attempts by someone

    Hello, I don't know if I should ask about this or not. I have received a stream of notifications today that someone is trying to login to my account. As soon as I received the first notice I changed my password to an insanely complicated one. But even now, many hours after the first notice, I am still receiving notifications about multiple failed login attempts over the past few minutes.     Are there reliable sources supporting this claim of notability? I don't think being invited is sufficient on its own. I would expect any person considered notable enough to be in the list to have a Wikipedia article about them, which Amwed Jethu appears not to have.     How are songs re-directed to their albums via wikilinks?

    I'm working on music articles, and in some cases, I can use wikilinks for song titles that re-direct to their original albums on their own. What enables this? And if a song doesn't redirect on its own, is it okay to set up a wikilink that "pipes" to the album (even if the link doesn't redirect to the specific section where the song is discussed)? Thanks.     Using a non-free image in more than one article

    Currently this non-free image, which I uploaded a couple of weeks ago, is being used in The Papers of Benjamin Franklin article. I would like to also use this image in the Bibliography of Benjamin Franklin article, but the non-free rational template will only allow for one article to be listed.     Hi Gwillhickers. Although it's possible to use a non-free image in more than one way or in more than one article as long as each use of the image satisfies WP:NFCCP, the first use of a non-free image is already considered to be quite exceptional to WP:COPY#Guidelines for images and other media; therefore, each additional use tends to be much more harder to justify because cause it tends to be considered one more step up the exceptional stairway (if that makes sense). The way it is done is by adding a separate specific non-free use rationale to the file's page for each of the file's uses.
    In the case of cover art (e.g. book covers, album covers, DVD covers), the first use is generally OK when it's for primary identification purposes in the main infobox or at the top of of a stand-alone article about the book, album, DVD, etc. the cover represents, but additional uses become much harder to verify as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3. I don't see any way to justify adding the file to the "Bibliography" article per WP:FREER, WP:NFLISTS or WP:NFC#CS that would not be considered WP:DECORATIVE absent adding any sourced critical commentary about the cover art itself directly added to that article. Even if such content were to be found, it would make much more sense contextually to add it to the "Papers" article and would be unnecessarily redundant and out of place in the "Bibliography" article. Non-free book cover art is pretty much never allowed to illustrate individual entries or sections of "Bibliography" type articles and in this case the WP:HATNOTE to main article about the Papers in Bibliography of Benjamin Franklin#The Papers of Benjamin Franklin seems more than sufficient as an alternative to using a non-free image per FREER. So, even if you were to add a rationale for the use to the file's page, it would be very unlikely to survive a challenge by establishing a consensus in favor of such use per WP:JUSTONE.
    Finally, I think the first two images in the "Papers" article should be switched since the "Papers" are the primary subject of the article and its cover art should be at the top of the article. As for switching images, I feel the portrait of Franklin is more appropriate as the lede image, with its definitive caption, since he is the actual author of the letters and other writings, while there is a dedicated section for the publication, where Franklin's portrait would not be as appropriate, imo.     I was trying to clean the Knob-and-tube wiring article, and noticed that there are some links that appear in wiki markup as (for example) [joist-en] (being a link to the [joist-en] article on the English Wikipedia). I tried fixing these, and the article history tells me I was successful, but when I hit the Edit button, those weird links are still there in the wiki markup!

    The edit history shows that you have made two edits to the article. In the first, you made several changes (mostly removing bolding), but in that same edit you somehow changed [[joist]] to [joist-en] - which is not proper link to joist, it displayed as "[joist-en]" (and the same for two other links).     The answer is probably, You don't.
    Wikipedia is not a social media site like LinkedIn, which contains profiles: it is an encyclopaedia, which contains neutral articles about notable subjects.
    If the person in question meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then there could be an article about them. The article will not belong to them, will not be controlled by them, will not necessarily contain what they would like it to contain, and should be based almost entirely on what people unconnected with them have chosen to publish about them, not on what they or their associates say or want to say.
    If you can find the independent reliable published sources which are a non-negotiable minimum for establishing notability, then please read your first article, to find out how to create a draft article.
    Creating a new article is much much more difficult than new editors usually realise, and I always advise people not to even try until they have been making improvements to existing articles for a few months and learnt how Wikipedia works. Note that if the person you want to create an article is somebody you are connected with, that makes it even harder because your conflict of interest may make it difficult to write in a neutral way about them.     To explain the answers that have already been given, but that might be a bit obscure to a new editor: Wikipedia is not a list of everything. It only covers subjects that meet its own definition of notability (roughly, that several independent sources have discussed the subject in some depth), and most organisations - even most churches - do not.     Hello! I've previously seen users contributing via wikied with usernames that I'd normally consider problematic. However I usually don't bother reporting them because WikiEd should have some sort of approval for usernames... right?     From my understanding student editors are not above the law, and in fact some have been blocked for unacceptable usernames (i.e HomoeroticMikePenceExperience). The point of Wiki Ed is to teach students how to edit Wikipedia, not to put them in their own filter bubble in which the volunteer community is not welcome. Whether or not you are a science writer is irrelevant, but your chosen name suggests that you might be connected with nadresearch.org. If you are, then you have a conflict of interest in seeking to add that project's research to the article, and should certainly discuss it on the article's talk page first, and get consensus that it is appropriate to add.     No, the page has not been 'approved'. And nor will it be in the state it is in now, since it entirely fails to demonstrate that this individual meets Wikipedia:Notability criteria, through significant coverage in independant reliable published sources.     We don't need 'links to songs'. We need evidence that the subject of the article meets Wikipedia notability criteria. Which cannot be demonstrated through a bizarre link to a Google book search result referencing a Journal Encyclopédique from 1775. Or a link to Jayvé's YouTube channel. Or a link to an Amazon page flogging his album, even with the claim that Jeff Bezos wrote the page. Read the material you have been directed to, and come back when you can provide actual evidence of significant coverage in independent published reliable sources.     Messed up infobox - Congress of Tamaulipas

    The infobox at Congress of Tamaulipas is wierd with multiple occurances of "line-height:1.2em; padding:.1em 0;" that I don't understand. I don't see any issues in the parameters and the infobox itself hasn't changed recently, ideas?Naraht (talk) 06:25, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    South African Institute of Tax Professionals

    Good day

    I have be trying to edit the page South African Insitute of Tax Professionals, which changed its name to the South African Institute of Taxation.

    I have failed at all attempts as I am not an admin of the page, where I have edited some information it always comes back to its old default page contents.

    How do I navigate around this and/or fix it as I am the Head of Communications in the said institute?

    The fact that you are the head of communications does not give you any special rights in how the article should be written. On the contrary, it means you should avoid editing the article directly yourself, because it will be hard for you to write in a neutral manner consistent with Wikipedia’s core purpose.
    Case in point, looking at the page history, I see you have tried to edit the page, but your edit was reverted by ProClasher97. They did not leave an edit summary, but presumably they object to the promotional language you tried to edit in (for instance, SAIT’s mission is to uplift the profession (...) Members must adhere to a strong set of ethics (...)).
    You should instead head over to the talk page of the article, in that case Talk:South_African_Institute_of_Tax_Practitioners, start a discussion that says explicitly what changes you want (in a "change X to Y" format, not a general "improve this section"). If you copy-paste the magic code {{edit request}} at the top of your post there, it will bring the request to the attention of editors who patrol such requests, and make it likely that you will get a quick answer.
    I also see that someone else, with the account name MMMaseko, tried to put in a similarly promotional edit before, and was similarly reverted. Given the similarities in editing timing, I suspect that person is part of your communications team. Please clarify and have them make the same WP:PAID disclosure if needed.     @MikeSAIT: As you are part of the institute you have a paid relationship and must disclose said relationship, which is usually done on your user page at User:MikeSAIT. You should also not directly edit the article because of this, and instead make edit requests on the article's talk page at Talk:South African Institute of Tax Practitioners.     There is always the possibility of variation in transliterating a name from a differnt script, but all the English sources cited spell his name as "Roni" not "Ronny".     Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. To be included in a list, there must already be an article about your newspaper.     @331dot. The list article Newspapers in Ireland has dozens of redlinks and content with no evidence of notability, especially in the section on closed newspapers. As such it may need extensive clean-up per WP:STAND, although there are exceptions mentioned at WP:LISTCOMPANY. The Dublin Gazette has an entry with inline citation to its own website but it is not clear what the IP is asking for since there is no separate "freesheets" section.
