I was trying to send you a message but Wikipedia talk pages are censored and I used shocking scatalogical language as regards to Arb.com showing their true nature in your regard. I seriously got a talk page note on my IP talk page thanking me for participating in WP but hoping that I would be constructive in my participation... I apologize profusely and suggest that one might have to comb the history of the page to discover my true feelings. Suffice it to say that you are one of the best content creators on Wikipedia (the tendentious restaurant promo page proved it to me). I hope that you take your freedom from the idiocy of Administrator duties as an opportunity to fulfill your destiny as a content-creator at WP.

Other neat portal ideas for longer term

  • Longer term ideas to think about from other portals:
  1. Events section, like: "On this day" e.g., Biography, Religion, United States; "Selected anniversaries" e.g., War; "Calendar" at Holidays. Interesting idea of "Month selected anniversaries", at Oregon.
  2. Model intro with some rotating images, after Portal:Oregon, Portal:Indiana, Portal:Iceland/Intro and Portal:Philosophy of science/Intro.
  3. Revamp DYK sections w/ free-use images, model after Portal:Criminal justice and Portal:Oregon.
  4. Portal palettes at User:RichardF/Palettes/Portals. Comparable color schemes can be developed from the various hue lists at User:RichardF/Palettes. Also see Portal:Box-header.
  5. If there are a lot of categories, then categories section to 2 columns, like in Portal:Indiana.
Also take some time to check out style/formatting at Portal:Indiana Cirt (talk)

US Supreme Court cases

Category:United States free speech case law - note to self, some articles to research and improve in quality ratings, for a longer term project. -- Cirt (talk) 02:09, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Idea for new portal
  1. Portal:Supreme Court of the United States.
  2. Use GA and FA content.
  3. Will help me gain familiarity with coverage of articles on the topic on Wikipedia.
  4. Involve editors/WikiProjects in help with key sections of the portal. :)

Statement on my Wikipedia editing

I've given my editing some significant thought, and I'm going to shift my focus for an extended period: both in (1) Articles chosen to edit, and (2) Activity level.

  1. I'm going to reduce my activity level significantly, as I've done now for the past few days.
  2. I'm going to focus primarily on getting prior articles I had already improved in quality - up to FA quality.
  3. And I'm going to shift efforts in new areas of interest - to primarily editing and improving the quality of articles about U.S. Supreme Court cases (as mentioned above diff).
  4. I'm going to try to seek out collaborative help from other respected editors, and WikiProjects, in all of the above endeavors.
  5. I remain committed to not editing DYK again in the future.

Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 14:19, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New motion

After much thought, I've reluctantly added a new motion on which you may wish to comment on the case PD talk page.  Roger Davies talk 03:26, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cirt, just for the record, and especially considering how multiple arbitrators have voted for de-sysop, I think the proper thing for you to do at this point would be to resign. Let things settle for awhile, continue good work in other parts of the project, and then if you want, go for another RfA at some point in the future. I understand the frustration since the problems weren't related to using admin tools, but trying to struggle to maintain your bit at this point is just going to cause negative feelings within the community. The honorable thing to do at this point is resign in a dignified manner, and then re-visit things later. --Elonka 14:46, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input, that appears likely to happen anyways. — Cirt (talk) 16:35, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

EnWq

Hello, you recently blocked AvicBot on EnWq (rightly so; I was changing settings in AvicBot's config to include more wikis, however EnWq was added by accident - it should not have edited EnWq, and I agree with the block) however it seems you may have accidentally left the option "Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IP addresses they try to edit from" checked, as my main account is auto-blocked there, as well. If possible, I'd like to correct this, so I can offer my explanation and apology to the EnWq community. Thanks. Avicennasis @ 23:44, 8 Elul 5771 / 23:44, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for assistance re Battle of Vukovar

I noticed that you had left a review at Talk:Battle of Vukovar#Multiple unaddressed article issues some months ago. I've since largely rewritten and greatly expanded the article, addressing the issues that you raised. I'm aiming to get the article to featured status in time for the 20th anniversary of the battle, on 18 November. It's a tight timetable but I think it's achievable. You've had some experience with FAs before so I would really appreciate any help you could provide. In particular, I'm a bit stuck with formatting the news references - I've used the harv format for the book refs but it doesn't seem to work for news items. Can you suggest a way around that? Prioryman (talk) 21:51, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at Time Inc. v. Hill and try modeling after that. — Cirt (talk) 03:27, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice. I've now nominated the article for featured status. As a past reviewer, you are very welcome to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Battle of Vukovar/archive1. Prioryman (talk) 00:07, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An arbitration case regarding the conduct of User:Cirt and User:Jayen466 has been closed and may be viewed at the link above. The following is a summary of enacted remedies:

  1. Cirt is topic-banned indefinitely from making any edits to articles related to new religious movements, their adherents, and any related biographies of living people, broadly construed.
  2. Cirt is further restricted on biographies of living people if the articles are substantially about, or Cirt's edits introduce material relating to: politics, religion, or social controversy. Cirt is permitted to edit articles incidentally related to such topics provided the articles, and Cirt's edits, are not biographical in nature. The Committee may extend this restriction if BLP-related problems continue, and Cirt may request relaxation of this restriction after one year from this date if there are no further problems.
  3. Cirt is desysopped for admitted violations of the neutral point of view and biographies of living people policies. He may reapply for adminship through requests for adminship at any time.
  4. Jayen466 is reminded to strictly adhere to dispute resolution processes in any future disputes.
  5. Cirt and Jayen466 are subject to an interaction restriction wherein they may not communicate with each other, nor comment on each other, or each other's actions or edits, directly or indirectly, anywhere on Wikipedia. Comments on the same page are permissible provided the previously mentioned restrictions are upheld. Neither party may respond directly to any violations of this or any other remedy, but shall report any violations via email directly to the Arbitration Committee.
  6. Any violation of these restrictions may be enforced by block, to be logged at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Cirt and Jayen466#Log of blocks, bans, and restrictions.

For the Arbitration Committee, Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:30, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: Pursuant to the above mentioned remedy, I will be removing your sysop flag shortly. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:30, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, Hersfold, you did a good job during this case. — Cirt (talk) 03:25, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Conversation at WT:RFA

You may already be aware of this, but there is a conversation at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship#New standard for de-admining related to the ArbCom ruling on your case. I wanted to let you know about this as a general courtesy. Best regards. - Hydroxonium (TCV) 02:42, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice, I'll defer to the community consensus that arises from the discussion. — Cirt (talk) 03:25, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A request WRT your previous AFD closes.

First I'd like to say that this sucks. You were a decent admin and I'm sorry that it happened. However, I would like to make a request. You often closed AFDs as "delete" with only one participant but you were pretty good about reopening and relisting them if somebody later objected. Therefore, when your AFDs were challenged at WP:REFUND or occasionally on my talk page, I would tell them to discuss it with you. However, now that you can no longer undelete articles unfortunately, I would like your permission to undelete the articles and reopen the AFDs mmyself if they are challenged if in my best judgement they might benefit from further discussion (but no unsourced BLPs) --Ron Ritzman (talk) 03:52, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea, you have my permission. I'll defer to your judgment. — Cirt (talk) 03:26, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch

I'd really not expected that outcome from ARBCOM and feel it was massively disproportionate. If you still plan on hanging out here (which I hope you do) I'd suggest you wait a few months and go back to RfA. No one has even argued you've been anything other than an outstanding admin... Hobit (talk) 13:51, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd support your resysop today.--v/r - TP 15:05, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also support a resysop. BusterD (talk) 15:25, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Echo what the 3 above said. The remedies are absolutely one-sided against you, which I think is not fair at all. OhanaUnitedTalk page 17:25, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all for the kind words, but I'm not considering that path at this point in time. — Cirt (talk) 03:26, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
With your reply to Hersfold above, you have gained more of my respect, than has otherwise accumulated to date. I'll support whichever path you choose, and hopefully better myself, by your example. My76Strat (talk) 03:35, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, with everything that went on, I have to say that Hersfold (talk · contribs) really did a great job with all the associated duties required during the case itself. — Cirt (talk) 03:36, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just found out now (with the Signpost), but I very much echo the sentiments already expressed above - it does all seem very one-sided. If you do run again at a future point, you are assured of my support. Orderinchaos 08:41, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I still respect you, Cirt! Bearian (talk) 15:29, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I wasn't aware of the controversy until now either, but wanted to send you a message of support too. I don't know if you saw this, but it might cheer you somewhat. In any case, I hope you continue to contribute and I look forward to supporting your RfA if you decide in the future to take this path. Best wishes, --John (talk) 16:38, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for your work as a sysop. I would support you if you choose resysop. jmcw (talk) 20:44, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly notification regarding this week's Signpost

Hello. This is an automated message to tell you that, as it stands, you will shortly be mentioned in this week's 'Arbitration Report' (link). The report aims to inform The Signpost's many readers about the activities of the Arbitration Committee in a non-partisan manner. Please review the article, and, if you have any concerns, feel free to leave them in the Comments section directly below the main body of text, where they will be reader by the editorial team. Please only edit the article yourself in the case of grievious factual errors (making sure ot note such changes in the comments section), as well as refraining from edit-warring or other uncivil behaviour on project pages generally. Thank you. On behalf of The Signpost's editorial team, LivingBot (talk) 21:39, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Cirt. Further to the automated message above, some users feel that naming you directly in the (sub)title was inappropriate (the subtitle has since been changed, but the old version will already have been seen by many editors). Although I selected it as a factual summary of that section of the report, I am not the world's best judge of what can offend. For this reason, I submit this issue to you and await your response as to whether or not the subtitle was appropriate. If the affirmative, then I can only apologise wholeheartedly for the inconvenience caused. You will be relieved to know that steps are now being taken to devise and document a proper strategy for the future. Regards, - Jarry1250 [Weasel? Discuss.] 11:35, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
