The discography of American rapper Lil Wayne consists of ten studio albums (including one collaborative album), one remix album, twenty-five mixtapes, one-hundred forty six singles (including five collaborative singles and one-hundred twelve as a featured artist), seventeen promotional singles and one-hundred one music videos.
Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., Lil Wayne began his career when he was a teenager. In 1993, Lil Wayne teamed with fellow rapper B.G. to form the duo The B.G.'z; they released an album True Story in 1995.[1] Lil Wayne joined the group Hot Boys in 1997; Hot Boys would release three albums: Get It How U Live! in 1997, Guerrilla Warfare in 1999, and Let 'Em Burn in 2003. In 1998, Lil Wayne appeared on the hit single "Back That Thang Up" by fellow Hot Boys rapper Juvenile.[2]
Lil Wayne made his solo debut in 1999 with Tha Block Is Hot, which went platinum and yielded the singles "Tha Block Is Hot", "Respect Us", and "Get Off the Corner". His later albums, Lights Out (2000) and 500 Degreez (2002) attracted minor attention, and Lil Wayne appeared on the Big Tymers' hit single "#1 Stunna" in 2000. Beginning in 2003, Lil Wayme began recording a series of mixtapes titled Da Drought that led up to his 2004 album Tha Carter. "Go D.J.", the lead single from Tha Carter, reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and Lil Wayne also made a guest performance on another top ten single, "Soldier" by Destiny's Child. In 2005, Tha Carter II came out with the singles "Fireman", "Hustler Muzik", and "Shooter".[2]
With rapper Birdman, Lil Wayne released collaborative album Like Father, Like Son in 2006; that album included the single "Stuntin' Like My Daddy". That single reached #21 on the Hot 100 and #5 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. In 2006 and 2007, Lil Wayne focused on recording mixtapes, including the Dedication series hosted by DJ Drama and Da Drought 3, and guest performances for other artists. Many popular hip hop and R&B singles of those years featured Lil Wayne, including "Gimme That" by Chris Brown, "Make It Rain" by Fat Joe, "You" by Lloyd, "We Takin' Over" by DJ Khaled, "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)" by Wyclef Jean, and "Duffle Bag Boy" by Playaz Circle.
In 2008, Lil Wayne released his best-selling album yet, Tha Carter III. The album featured the number-one single "Lollipop", a collaboration with Static Major, and other top 20 singles "A Milli", "Got Money" (featuring T-Pain), and "Mrs. Officer" (featuring Bobby Valentino). Certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America,[3] Tha Carter III won the Best Rap Album award at the 2009 Grammy Awards, "Lollipop" won the Best Rap Song award, and "A Milli" won the Best Rap Solo Performance Award.[4] Lil Wayne founded record label Young Money Entertainment and released a collaborative album featuring rappers signed to the label, We Are Young Money, in 2009, followed by his debut rock music album Rebirth in 2010. While serving an 8-month prison sentence in New York he released another album entitled I Am Not a Human Being, originally intended only to be an EP but upgraded to a full album, in September 2010, featuring Young Money artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Twist. His latest album, Tha Carter IV was released on August 29, 2011. It includes the singles "6 Foot 7 Foot", featuring Cory Gunz, "John" featuring Rick Ross, "How to Love" and "She Will" featuring Drake. His album sales in the United States stand at over 12.9 million copies and his digital track sales stand at 37 million digital copies.[5][6]
