You helped me before on Teahouse with a question about the Janice Lourie Wikipedia page, so I am returning with a follow on question. The page has been tagged with an orphan tag, however it is only a week old. It doesn't make sense to me that it should have internal links. The page has many external references to insure its notability.

IF YOU CAME HERE BECAUSE I DELETED AN ARTICLE THAT YOU CREATED OR WORKED ON: Please see WP:REFUND first. Thanks.

December 13 2014

Thank you Philg88. You explained to me on my Teahouse question what the problem was with my subpage being critiqued for 2 disambiguation entries. I figured out why that had happened. It was when it was edited. The problem was due to my original citations. I have corrected them and I appreciate your help. JanvermontJanvermont (talk) 14:22, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sunil Kumar Verma

Please tell me what next about article on Sunil Kumar Verma i.e how can I start working on this now after it has been userfied?? I am new to wiki editing business...but will try my best Educationtemple (talk) 14:41, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Educationtemple: Crisco 1492 has kindly offered to userfy the article and he will let you know when that has been done. You then need to ensure that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, particularly with regards to notability, which means adding the references you cited at the deletion review. If you are unsure what to do you can always ask at the Teahouse. Good luck!  Philg88 talk 15:50, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks  Philg88 . Thanks for kind suggestion. I see that it has been userfied now. I will try my best to do justice with this. If unsure at some step, would request help. Once I have done it at my end, I will update you and the House accordingly. Regards. Educationtemple (talk) 16:01, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 16:11, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello  Philg88 . I have worked on this article after it was userfied and re-written with all new evidences. Could you please review this for me so that it could be rescued as normal article out of userspace? User:Educationtemple/Sunil Kumar Verma Educationtemple (talk) 20:12, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sir,  Philg88  I note that one editor has left a note to speedy delete the article that I have developed in my userspace after it was userfied. Could you please help to get this notice removed and review the new article with all the latest references discussed in DRV and then move it into the article space as appropriate. Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 05:16, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Educationtemple: Hi there, FreeRangeFrog kindly removed the speedy deletion notice from your draft before I got there so don't worry about that. Excellent work on the revised version, well done! That said, we don't normally have a large pull quote in the middle of an article—it can be precised and turned into article text with appropriate references. If you don't mind, I will do that along with a couple of tweaks to the style and grammar. Let me know if that course of action is OK with you. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 06:17, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, if you do these tweaks, it would be an honor indeed! Please go ahead  Philg88  and thanks in advance. Educationtemple (talk) 10:13, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Educationtemple! All done and I hope that you are satisfied with the result! You might want to consider submitting this to the Did You Know? project, which would mean a link to the article from the main page. The hook might be something like: "Did you know that Sunil Kumar Verma was co-inventor of a technology that allows the identification of any bird, mammal or fish?" Best,  Philg88 talk 08:18, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful Job! Dear  Philg88 . Many Thanks......I will try to submit this to Did You Know? project as you suggested. Thanks again. Educationtemple (talk) 16:37, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear  Philg88 , I had a look of DYK project. I Read rules and tried to submit the article ..I fear that I may mess up the things during submission/nomination....May I request you to please give few more minutes and nominate it...?? The following DYK would be relevant =

Did you know that Sunil Kumar Verma was co-inventor of Universal primer technology, which allows identification of any unknown biological sample and its assignation to a known species source?

Please let me know if you could do this, please! Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 15:07, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

and Yes, please let me know if you need my input on any specific article on advance science and technology related topics from anywhere in world, Specific topics related to Indian Educationists, Academicians, Academic Policies, Discoveries and innovations done in the world, Caste and religion related topics, or history related issues specifically the history of Indian subcontinent. I would be happy to work with you and provide my unbiased findings and share the knowledge. Educationtemple (talk) 15:20, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done See Template:Did you know nominations/Sunil Kumar Verma May I suggest you put something on your user page? It looks a bit odd having a red-linked author in a DYK submission. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 17:21, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done Oh! I did not realize that! Thanks! As soon as I have more contributions on Wiki, I will add more sections on my userpage accordingly. I need to learn a lot though! Hope DYK for Sunil Kumar Verma would be voted positively by reviewers. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 17:57, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello  Philg88 . After the nomination it got stuck at that stage. What is the next obvious step / stage? Just for my knowledge. Educationtemple (talk) 08:21, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Educationtemple: Don't worry it's not stuck. Sometimes it takes a while for submissions to be reviewed. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 08:29, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bhargava

Sorry to bother you but I'm struggling right now to find an admin who edits even occasionally in the India topic area. Things are getting heated at Bhargava and it wouldn't surprise me if there is some meatpuppetry going on, given three different redlinked accounts turning up in rapid succession. Any chance you could add it to your watchlist for a day or two? - Sitush (talk) 10:43, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all, my friend, I'll take a look. Oddly enough, I was planning to leave you a message this morning over the neutrality of the Punjab, India article. I'm not sure that the tag for the whole thing is warranted - the problem seems to be with the "Economy" section, even though the claims are sourced. I've fixed the problem with the "Transportation" section (I think) but I'd be grateful if you'd have a look and remove the tags if appropriate. Best,  Philg88 talk 10:52, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm off out for an hour or two but will look at the Punjab thing later, sure. - Sitush (talk) 10:54, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Sitush: I've left what I hope was a supportive message on the Bhargava talk page. It seems that Bhargavaflame is now claiming that Bhargava isn't a gotra but a grouping of 12 gotras. I don't know enough about this topic area to offer constructive input to the discussion, but I will back you up on matters of policy. Best,  Philg88 talk 11:35, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok. No-one expects you to understand the complexities - just so long as you understand the policies! A gotra is a clan; there can be many gotras in a caste and there can also be sub-clans. Sometimes it is easier to refer to this lot as a "community", simply because it saves us having to got bogged down in detail. I've replied there and am now off to look at Punjab (the article, I'm thousands of miles from the place). - Sitush (talk) 12:36, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I get the clan bit, but I'm missing the in-depth cultural and religious background knowledge. That, of course, is where Wikipedia comes in. I'll keep an eye on what develops at Bhargava. Enjoy The Punjab! Cheers,  Philg88 talk 13:22, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suny3598 (talk · contribs) doesn't seem to be getting the message. I'm pretty sure this is a meatfarm, working via some community forum. - Sitush (talk) 20:38, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Sitush: I've semi-protected the article for a week, which should stop any meatpuppetry for now. Let me know if you think further action is required. And thanks for your work on Punjab, India. Best,  Philg88 talk 21:55, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks very much. Am I ok to revert Suny's last removal of valid sourced info? I think it takes me over the edge. - Sitush (talk) 22:00, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sam Sailor has already reverted, so nothing to worry about for now.  Philg88 talk 22:04, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Should I file at ANEW? Suny has removed "The Bhargava community were originally a trading caste ..." etc four times (with small differences) within the last 24 hours if I can count. Sam Sing! 22:08, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I protected the page rather than block Suny to avoid a potential further backlash from other meat/sock puppets. I doubt if Suny will edit any other articles so blocking isn't really going to help the situation. That said, I'd like to hear what Sitush thinks. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 22:13, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt it is worth the effort filling in the ANEW template. I've already left the caste sanctions warning, so if they come back to do the same stuff again, I'd just find a willing admin to act per WP:GS/Caste. I've seen this pattern so many times, across so many caste articles, that I've long since given up concerning myself too much with WP:BITE when a group of like-minded accounts register very soon after each other. If Philg88 isn't willing, someone else will be. - Sitush (talk) 22:18, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese source(s)

Hi, Ponyo suggested your name as someone who can read Chinese. Can you evaluate the Chinese article added as a source to Jannie Chan by Johnson103? Does it in fact say what he says it does? Yngvadottir (talk) 00:16, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Ponyo and Yngvadottir: It's an extract from a study of recent research carried out by the Singapore Hakka Research Association that says very little. More importantly it says nothing about Jannie Chan whatsoever and thus its applicability as a reference is therefore invalid—or as we Brits would say "complete bollocks".  Philg88 talk 06:33, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Jannie is actually mentioned on pg. 202 of the pdf. "梁純菁選擇胡文虎、張國林和曾秀麗為新馬客家企業家代表,並認為客家人的確具有創業文化的價值觀,可以滿足成功創業所需的條件。"  SmileBlueJay97  talk  09:47, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, well-spotted. Sorry, I only checked the first couple of pages. For accuracy, she was one of three people selected along with Hu Wenhu and Zhang Guolin. The reference is valid, my bad.  Philg88 talk 10:40, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will add p. 202 to the ref. if no one else has. Thanks both! Yngvadottir (talk) 12:22, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pregunta?

Hola Halias 23.

Night Train (composition)

Please don't use the word "consensus" when you mean "majority". Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:30, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Ghmyrtle: Majorities aren't applicable on Wikipedia per WP:NOTAVOTE. I meant "consensus", which is why I used the word.  Philg88 talk 06:38, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I know very well that majorities aren't applicable. That's precisely why your decision surprised me. Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:56, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ghmyrtle: I'm sorry if you don't agree with my decision on this. You are free to take the matter to move review if you believe that I somehow misinterpreted the consensus. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 07:02, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not that big a deal - I was just surprised at your closing argument. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:09, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ghmyrtle: No hard feelings I hope—you can't please all of the people all of the time!  Philg88 talk 09:45, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Conincidence

That we are dealing with 2 link promoters(at least right now). 1. User:Boby1187 2. User:59.180.60.185. I had formally warned Boby1187(see User_talk:Boby1187#Promotion.2Fspamming_a_website). Bladesmulti (talk) 16:29, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up Bladesmulti I've indeffed Boby1187 and will wait to see what happens with the IP. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 16:46, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Special:Contributions/Vipul.merinews is doing what these users have done, promotion. I have warned him. Bladesmulti (talk) 16:51, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome - IP appears to be Pratyushsingla, also indeffed.  Philg88 talk 16:53, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Bladesmulti: Blimey! They're coming thick and fast today. Vipul.merinews indeffed for spam.  Philg88 talk 16:57, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Wall

Hello! Some time ago you said that you might help out with some copy editing when Yakikaki and I were done fixing The Wall. Well now we are, and a bit of your magic touch would be much appreciated if and when you have the time. Yaki is off moving and I'll be at the SOIC, so the article is all yours. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:06, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for moving the page Young stunna to Young Stunna. Stanleytux (talk) 07:27, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. Coincidentally, I just left you a message re talk page moves. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 07:33, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ScotlandsPeople

I believe I have a preexisting account - can submit that in the form? Connormah (talk) 06:39, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Connormah: I'm not sure how ScotlandsPeople are going to handle this administratively and whether the free accounts will be a separate entity. By all means, mention it on the form in the "non-English wikis" field. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 06:49, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and submitted it under my preexisting account (didn't want to make another email address just for this purpose). I've never purchased anything on it (just redeemed some free credit offers from a while back). If it's a problem though, let me know and I will have to make a new one. Connormah (talk) 07:02, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, let's wait and see how things pan out.  Philg88 talk 07:17, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AGR's block

Would you state this block on ANI? For user preference. Bladesmulti (talk) 13:13, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure.  Philg88 talk 13:19, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Bladesmulti: You may care to take a look at Nepal, it seems we have a potentially similar situation developing there.  Philg88 talk 08:18, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have that page added to my watchlist, I have just reverted him. It looks like he is continously involved in promoting his thought and discriminating others. See the edit history of India, Gautama Buddha( and the talk (page)) It is obvious that he has crossed 3rr, since he has changed pointed content for more than 3 times in 24 hours during the edit dispute. Bladesmulti (talk) 08:21, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As it stands on Gautama Buddha, you are both at two reverts each so please be careful. It seems that we have a clear case of WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT with regard to Buddha's birthplace and I'm minded to consider this disruptive in light of the other article edits.  Philg88 talk 08:44, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I did two times. He is just misrepresenting a faulty citation(UNESCO) and adding imaginary claims like "He lived most of his life in Nepal", etc, when they are not supported by the citation. Bladesmulti (talk) 09:00, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can't take sides in a content dispute to avoid becoming WP:INVOLVED. What I don't want here is for you to end up getting blocked for edit warring. I've left a further message on AGRs talk page, indicating that my patience is wearing thin.  Philg88 talk 09:06, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment
  • Undid for (nonsensical and too against the rest of historicity) [1] when I had provided the source and Gautam Buddha has lived more than 15 yrs in Nepal. I had written the same.
  • Undid revision without reason [2] Inclusion of History of India in name of History of Indian subcontinent in History of South Asia South Asia as if whole south asia is contained within India.
  • Undid revision (irrevalent category) [3] But the category for english is relavent.
  • Undid revision (nonsensial) [4]

Closure too speedy, involvement

About this ANI thread, you closed [6]. You closed it way too early, clearly discussion was going on. You left no option to reply, while the editor you quoted (Scottywong) had changed their argument and made grave accusations against me. Also, in your closing statement, you show to take sides, that is: you entered your opinion in the conclusion. That makes you an involved editor (quite simply: opinions go in the thread, uninvolved editors close). I note that in a previous ANI closure where we met, you did the same [7] (then, even allowing a partisan editor to edit & cleanup the record after your closure). -DePiep (talk) 12:30, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure quite what end your message is supposed to achieve. I told you where participants could continue the discussion if necessary, where I see Andy Mabbett is waiting for you to reply. At the same time, I fail to see how my summary of what another admin said in an ANI closing summary can be construed as in any way WP:INVOLVED.  Philg88 talk 16:16, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't understand what my initial ANI post requested, why do you think you are capable of concluding it? Here you are asking for clarification afterwards, you should have asked in the ANI thread of course. Here you repeat that you have an opinion in this (however uninformed). As for Pigsonthewing "waiting" for a reply: not so. Pigsontewing started stalking me (not so strange, since you gave them a free pass for the earlier untalked reverts). All in all you show & repeat here that you have concluded the ANI without reading it, and biased against me. (And previously you allowed an editor change your closed ANI discussion, helping whitewashing your own actions and cloring me bad). Most disgusting point in your attitude, after not reading the points I mentioned, is that you start blaming me for not going to talkpages, while Pigsonthewing/Mabbett actually did the edit warring without any talkpage contribution. Disgusting attitude. -DePiep (talk) 10:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After my opening sentence, I wrote: You closed it way too early, clearly discussion was going on. You did not respond to *that* in any way, your response here is evading and redirecting. You have the freedom of an admin to do so, in fact to ignore any text written. That must be the Admin's Sixth Pillar then. -DePiep (talk) 18:45, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About the usage of G6 for speedy deletion

Hello, Philg88. First of all, thank you for moving Ilhabela. Now, I've been thinking: would it have been possible for me, as a non-admin, to add {{db-move|1=Ilhabela, São Paulo|2=unnecessary disamiguation}} or something like that to that page, so that it gets deleted and I can make the move myself without taking the time of admins? Or it doesn't make much difference if I do it myself or if I request the move? Thank you, Victão Lopes Fala! 20:51, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Victão, and thanks for the message. As you say, it doesn't make much difference but it's probably quicker to request it at non-controversial moves as an admin is likely to see it more quickly—the page is checked pretty often. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 21:44, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Technical page move: Java Servlet to Java servlet?

I noticed you removed the request to move Java Servlet to Java servlet and the page move log says it was moved but the page still has the old title. Was this an oversight? Thanks for your help. Jojalozzo 04:48, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jojalozzo: No it wasn't an oversight. I carried out the move as an "uncontroversial technical request" but it clearly wasn't as Andy Dingley reverted the move. If you still want the article moved you will need to talk to Andy or post a {{requested move}} template on the talk page.  Philg88 talk 07:37, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This has come and gone repeatedly over the years. It comes down to, "Does WP's abhorrence for capitalisation override Sun et al. (with sources) treating it as a proper noun phrase?"
It's probable, given WP's fondness for inventing neologisms over following reality, that it will end up lowercased. However it's certainly not "uncontroversial". Andy Dingley (talk) 11:56, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vijender Kumar

Dear  Philg88 , as an attempt to enrich the Wikipedia:WikiProject India, I have drafted the article on Vijender Kumar, Professor of Law, who has recently assumed charge as Vice Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, India. Please see the draft article here in my user space (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Educationtemple/sandbox/Vijender_Kumar): I shall be grateful if you could kindly review this and if appropriate, please move to main section. Thanks in advance. Educationtemple (talk) 15:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Educationtemple and welcome back. I've done some minor copyediting on the article but I'm afraid at the moment it is not suitable for main article space. The sections on "Education and career" and "Contributions" are completely unreferenced so you need to add appropriate citations from reliable sources in line with Wikipedia's WP:GNG/Biographies of living persons policy.  Philg88 talk 06:25, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear  Philg88  thanks for comments. I shall work on these points ASAP. Educationtemple (talk) 06:59, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear  Philg88  did some more tweaking, added some more references in "Education and career" and "Contributions". Please see the latest version (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Educationtemple/sandbox/Vijender_Kumar). If not still OK, I will have to do more research on the net to find out more about him. Please let me know. Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 10:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I already see his name on the article Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan as well as the article on National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (As Vice Chancellor of the University) . I shall update the inline links from these pages if this article is approved. Educationtemple (talk) 11:08, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Educationtemple: All done. Another nice article, well done!  Philg88 talk 11:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sino-Platonic papers publishes fringe theories, it explicitly seeks out unknown and "independent" authors to publish "controversial" material.

I am afraid this is going to turn into a revert spree with me and him undoing each other's edits so someone needs to step in.Rajmaan (talk) 23:13, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Rajmaan: Hey my friend. This looks like a matter for WP:Dispute Resolution/Reliable sources noticeboard rather than something I can wave a magic wand at. FWIW, looking at the source I would say that a journal published by the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at University of Pennsylvania under the editorship of Victor H. Mair would generally be considered reliable. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 06:01, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I discussed the problematic content at User talk:Hzh and decided on what to remove. (And as a side note, Mair doesn't publish "mainstream" material in that journal nor accepts material by people with established credentials, the reason Mair runs this journal is to give a platform for strange theories regarding ancient central asian connections or influence in China, I've seen articles there claiming indo-european provenance for words in Chinese that basically any mainstream linguist would dismiss, but that's not the specific issue here)Rajmaan (talk) 06:07, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Rajmaan: Looks like you have a constructive dialog underway with Hzh, so I don't think that there's any danger of an edit war developing. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 06:31, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gotland says thanks you! Yesterday morning Radio Gotland had a 18 minutes spot about the List of church ruins on Gotland becoming a FL and Wikipedia in general. :) The National Swedish Radio will follow suit with a short spot too, date unknown. Is the BLP vio rationale only for articles? Should "grossly insulting..." be the rationale when directed against users/at userspace? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:15, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AFAIK, a User/User Talk page does not fall within Wikipedia's BLP policy so I guess that rationale is only for articles. "Grossly insulting ..." is a good catch all as it's pretty wooly.  Philg88 talk 09:25, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Thank you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:29, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

James Matheson, William Jardine (merchant), History of Jardine, Matheson & Core drug trafficking

Are you contending that they i)opium is not a drug/narcotic, ii)that Jardine and Matheson were not smugglers.

Would you be brave enough to rewrite these three articles to remove opium smuggling from their resumes. If not "drug trafficker" what do you suggest? Would the category one up be agreeable Category:Smugglers.--KTo288 (talk) 19:49, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay Category:Smugglers added to the two, with smuggler in place of drug trafficker in the case of Jardine, because even by the definitions of the time that was what they did.--KTo288 (talk) 19:52, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, and thanks for the message. I'm not contending that opium isn't a drug nor that Jardine and Matheson weren't opium smugglers because that's what reliable sources say. What I am against is linking this to modern day drug trafficking, which is a completely different pigeon and doesn't factor in the social and moral context of the first half of the 19th century. Of course, if one wanted to split hairs, it was the Chinese who actually smuggled the drug into the country, JM just flogged it to them off Lintin Island or further up the coast. It's a proven fact: Wikipedians are desperate for some fun. Adding an expansion of 54,735 bytes didn't even make the Page view statistics blink. But look what this diff (yes, I was a bit bored) made to the views. :) Q.E.D. w.carter-Talk 20:59, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. The indef-semi should stop some of it, but you're quite right, this is the sort of content that will continue to be argued over. Break out the sock radar ... sigh ...  Philg88 talk 09:05, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, I was also hoping that an of the people that kept in deleting the content added was going to come forward to have a real discussion but it didn't really work. Sorry that I requested a third party opinion. It seemed to be like the best next step. I will follow your advise using one of the other approaches. What do you recommend we should do next. Basically followers of the person in question are trying to avoid some of the content revealed in a public hearing to be added to the bio. Any suggestions are welcomed. Totocol (talk) 09:29, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Totocol: Asking an admin for advice? Heavens above, whatever next! As far as the article is concerned, all you can do is ensure that all potentially controversial content is solidly referenced. That said, I noticed a WP:CITEKILL section - you don't need nine references - pick the best three. As for potential socking and disruption, there are two members of the Evil Cabal watching the article...  Philg88 talk 09:41, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since he has started an RFC, I have reverted his changes. Because it is one of the rule of RFC that the requested changes must not be implemented if they are new. I don't see how they are necessary or they cause any impact in his career, it is just an allegation by a person who is just a former member of center. Some hours ago, I had also asked for page protection. I am also not sure that why these SPAs have singed in after years, other than edit warring on this article. Bladesmulti (talk) 09:54, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Bladesmulti: I've no idea either. I've extended the full protection for a week pending the result of the RFC.  Philg88 talk 10:12, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for intervening again. I hope the result is that the editors that are trying to delete new information with valid references are not able to continue deleting the new information added. Totocol (talk) 18:52, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I'll keep an eye on how things develop. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 18:59, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Day 3

This is day 3 of a large scale overload cyber attack on the Swedish Internet. My only access is via an old phone with an obsolete webhost. So no edits, no mail, nothing. Just to let you know. w.carter-Talk 10:58, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, @W.carter: do we have article about this cyber attack? Sounds like it will pass our WP:NEVENTS. Jim Carter 11:02, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea. You have to look, I can't see anything here. Most pages can't be reached, WP is one of the few that is open to me. Even writing this takes forever on this old thing I have to use now. w.carter-Talk 11:12, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim Cartar: (I'm posting here to keep the conversation intact.) Back online, for now. The attack was actually three consecutive attacks, but not noteworthy since they did not affect the entire system just most of it. A hacker group called Lizard Squad, thought to originate in Russia, has claimed responsibility for it. The were out to cause trouble for the gaming company Electronic Arts and blacked out large parts of Sweden in the process. In a statement they say that the attacks will continue on this and other gaming companies until Christmas. Through open servers they managed to access 25 million computers and use them in an overload. Best, w.carter-Talk 15:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jim Cartar: Yes, it's annoying, but we'll manage. It's fixed for now and I've hooked up at an old account on a small server that is not affected, a bit slower that usual but working. Sort of like working with Morse code while the aliens are attacking. ;) Kompis is Swedish for "my friend". Cheers, w.carter-Talk 19:38, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

December 2014 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter

Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone!

Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Awards will be given out to everyone who copy edits at least one of the target articles. Sign up here!

Election time again: The election of coordinators to serve from 1 January to 30 June 2015 is now underway. Candidates can nominate themselves or others from December 01, 00:01 (UTC), until December 15, 23:59. The voting period will run from December 16, 00:01 (UTC), until December 31, 23:59. You can read about coordinators' duties here. Please consider getting involved and remember to cast you vote—it's your Guild and it doesn't organize itself!

Thank you all once again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve anything without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, and Miniapolis.

Deletion caused problems

Phil, you deleted Kathi Darbar(Kshatriya) by renaming it without leaving a redirect. Unfortunately, you broke multiple links and redirects to this page in the process. The article had been at that mis-spaced title since 2010. Because the title is so old, it does not qualify for speedy deletion (which is exactly what you did), but instead needs discussion at WP:Redirects for discussion before being deleted. I've restored the redirect, but in the future, do not move without redirects unless the old name qualifies for speedy deletion. Also, do not move without a redirect without fixing incoming links. Thank you, Oiyarbepsy (talk) 17:28, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. Strictly speaking it wasn't a speedy deletion but a page move over a redirect. That said, it was my bad not leaving the redirect, which I did on the basis of a spacing error not requiring one. Once all the wrongly spaced incoming links are fixed, the page can go.  Philg88 talk 18:02, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The page should not be deleted, and its four years at that title would almost certainly lead to a keep decision at Redirects for Discussion. We can fix our links, but we can't fix the rest of the Internet. Since the page doesn't need to be deleted anyway, the incoming links don't really need to be fixed anyway. Does this need any copyedit? Jim Carter 07:13, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much friend! Any other suggestions on how to improve it further? Jim Carter 08:57, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, looks OK to me.  Philg88 talk 08:59, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking of nominating it for GA. Since you have some experience with GA process so any opinion? Jim Carter 09:07, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't done a thorough review but it certainly meets the outline criteria. I suggest that you file a request at the Ga nominations page.  Philg88 talk 09:10, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A follow on question to previous help, now about removing an orphan tag

Hello Philg88,

You helped me before on Teahouse with a question about the Janice Lourie Wikipedia page, so I am returning with a follow on question. The page has been tagged with an orphan tag, however it is only a week old. It doesn't make sense to me that it should have internal links. The page has many external references to insure its notability.

Janice Lourie is pending AFC submission. (Just added the pending status in case that is relevant to me request)

Would it be appropriate for me to select undo and remove the tag? JanJanvermont (talk) 13:43, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
