* Well there's a blast from the past! I'd be happy to work on an alternate, but I see that all of my old Barnstars have been cleaned up with alternate versions. The alternate version of The Running Man is here and it looks gender neutral (not to mention a lot cleaner and sharper than my original). What do you think of that one? --Deathphoenix ʕ 18:19, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day!

Happy First Edit Anniversary From Randfan

Happy First Edit Day, Deathphoenix/Archive7, from the Wikipedia Birthday Committee, myself, and Bearly541! Congrats for staying with Wikipedia this long. Much too many people create new accounts, do a few minor edits, and just quit. Have a great day! --Randfan

I hope you dont mind but I went through his controibs and absolutely nothing but vandalism, so I indefblocked.  Glen  14:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no problems with it. I handed out a slightly longer than usual "first block" because I strongly felt this was a bad-faith user, so I'd be inclined to agree with you, but I suggest you post this to WP:AN or WP:ANI to find out if a wider range of admins agree with you. Please let me know where you psoted to so I can also give my feedback there. Cheers, Deathphoenix ʕ 14:21, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance

Look at Students in Harry Potter's Year, Harry Potter characters birthday list, and the project page. Take a look at the issue, and contribute. Whether you disagree or disagree, it is vital that these issues are decided by editors who are familiar with Harry Potter and who are capable of deciding upon the worth of the articles, rather than editors who clearly have deep contempt for it and no real understanding of the subject. Please intervene. Michaelsanders 22:25, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I want to genuinely thank you for your involvement. I know we have not always seen eye-to-eye, but I am very grateful that you provided another voice from the Harry Potter camp. I did my best to get a balanced range of those involved in Harry Potter involved: I don't think T-dot answered, which was rather a shame. Otherwise, though, I was pleased that it was largely made an informed decision. I have expressed my views regarding the matter on the relevant page. Thanks again for your involvement in the matter. Michaelsanders 01:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I asked another admin to restore the article to my space but I'll ask you as well. I have the sources needed to allow it to pass muster and I want to do a quick rework before republishing the article. Thanks. NegroSuave 19:20, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hare and Psychopathy

Thanks for the support and I will keep your suggestions in mind. I am working through my research on psychopaths and it starts with Hare; in the end I hope to demonstrate a balance between what Hare says and what other researchers have come up with. In the meantime I feel that your criticism is entirely valid. Best regards, Moomot 18:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Deathphoenix, wondering if you'd check out a littler situation at Harry Potter fandom and Talk:Harry Potter fandom#Discussing whether we should add this: --Please do not add a site here without first discussing it on Talk:Harry Potter fandom first. Thank you.-- with User:Carhonda. S/he reverted an edit you made which removed a NN fansite without being discussed. I then pointed the user in the direction of the comment at the bottom directing people to the talk page to discuss, and the user removed the comment and set up a straw poll discussing whether to include the comment on the article, almost WP:POINT-ish. I reinstated the comment and responded to the user on the article talk page. Mind investigating? Thanks. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 21:40, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I think code in general is more like it. I've been utterly scared when I see the ultra-complicated signatures people have (mine's pretty complicated, actually) that take up 20 or so lines of the editing window because they have multicolored blinking text with flashing backgrounds for every letter in their 30 character long name. S h a r k f a c e 2 1 7 22:21, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know that I should keep my signature simple, but the simple fact of the matter is that I am lazy. If I want to find my previous edits on any page, I can scroll down quickly and find them due to the giant black bar with red (searching for "shark" or "sharkface" using the find button actually takes longer most of the time). You've removed this IP from the vandalism list without taking action. Can you make a suggestion about how to best proceed then? Justin67

Regarding User:Justin67, I must ask you to look at his edits. Using inflammatory language like "Hindu fascists" in WP:LEAD repeatedly is highly vandalistic[3], particularly since he keeps repeating it. If it was only once then fine, but twice?Rumpelstiltskin223 03:39, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See here the problem is that, if you look at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh you wills ee that there is a criticism section where allegations of fascism are discussed and academic sources provided for and against it. It is neutral. Justin's edits reflect an attempt to bias the reader towards a certain POV and not keep neutrality, which is the problem here. Given his repeated attempts to do this, and his complete refusal to engage in talk page discussion first, I have doubts as to whether he will discuss or not. If he persists in such edits, I will have to report him to WP:ANI since this sort of edit-warring and intransigence does not show an amenability to WP:DR. Nonetheless, the next time he shows up I will ask him on his talk page if he wants to DR or not. If he ignores and persistently edit-wars then I feel that admin action will be necessary. Rumpelstiltskin223 09:42, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He vandalized (really vandalized) the article twice today (he got reverted twice by RC patrollers, not me)[4][5]. IS this grounds enough to report him to WP:AIV now? Rumpelstiltskin223 22:16, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:VNistelrooy9

In response to your message on my talk page, VNistelrooy9 has not yet broken 3RR, see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Football&curid=185435&action=history. Grant65 | Talk 04:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no 3RR violation, but there are clear grounds for admin action. I don't understand why you removed VNistelrooy9 from WP:AIV. Grant65 | Talk 04:45, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's blatant vandalism and blanking, more more than edit-warring. Check his/her comments in the edit summaries:
 1. (cur) (last) 12:59, January 19, 2007 VNistelrooy9 (Talk | contribs) (until you can prove 'soccer' is a valid name i will not stop editing this page.)
 2. (cur) (last) 12:18, January 19, 2007 VNistelrooy9 (Talk | contribs) m (the sport is football not soccer and i have proven this already in the discussion and please dont leave me any retarded messages about not constructive,i corrected the article not trashed it.)
He/she has received a final warning from an admin after the first such reversion, and I believe any such warning justifies action if the user fails to comply. Grant65 | Talk 04:54, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, post to WP:ANI, WP:AIV is for cases of simple vandalism, when an admin can look at the page and immediately tell that it is vandalism. The fact that I looked through the contribs and thought it was either 3RR or a content dispute should show you that this is not a case of simple vandalism, and is therefore not a clearcut case that WP:AIV was designed to cover. --Deathphoenix ʕ 04:56, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RFI backlog

Hey, I’m writing a few admins because I’ve seen your good work on WP:AIV. Is there any chance WP:RFI could get some love? I know RFI is a lot more work, but it’s no less important. Morning Vandals

Yeah, I couldn't keep up with User:216.79.182.147 He/she and User:216.79.174.100‎ were vandalising Zeus too fast for me to keep up with warnings. BTW, look at these edits (vandalism) to Benedict Arnold this morning, all within 12 minutes:

User:Yeaitskarah

I was just about to report them when they stopped, both have only vandalized Zeus, neither has any other edits. - Dan D. Ric 16:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for clarification on vandalism

I reported User:Samantha Dean for vandalism (persistent content removal from Paternity fraud which I arrived at via a recent changes patrol) and you removed the report from the board without taking action (because you believed it was a content dispute) and I'd like to understand why because it seems to me that there's no point in doing recent changes patrols if vandals who persist in obvious content removal despite repeated requests and then warnings to stop are allowed to do whatever they want. It seems that the processes for trying to deal with vandals are useless (especially if the vandal retrospectively, after they're issued with a final warning, pretends they're not vandalising). I've watched this page so feel free to reply here if you choose to try to help me understand. Thank you for your time. :-) Random Passer-by 16:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

I always assumed that Wiki had a bot that welcomed people on the talk page of the new accounts in which had links to the Wiki's policies, help pages, Tutorial, etc... and is signed by administrator (like how Death Eater Dan did for me).In this way welcoming them before other temperamental editors scare them away. I'm I mistaken? If so, why doesn't Wiki have a bot that would generate this type of message when new account is created? (Duane543 16:36, 28 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Deathphoenix, it wa spartly my fault on this matter. I misread a final warning, thinking it was issued today, but it was issued days ago (for which the IP did get banned for). The user blanked pages and added insulting references. Arbiteroftruth 19:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Duplicate entries in WP:AIV

You wrote on my talk page:

Hi JFreeman, I noticed that there have been duplicate entries to WP:AIV and I suspect it's because you're using something like VandalProof to report these IPs. I hear VandalProof has an option of sending a report to AIV at the same time as issuing a warning to an IP. If so, perhaps you could remember to deselect that option when you do multiple reverts on a single IP's edits?

Thanks for the message. I don't use that option in VandalProof (when I use VandalProof), so that didn't cause the problem. I did run into a WP server "zero bytes returned" error a time or two, and perhaps my resubmissions after those errors caused the duplicates. At any rate, I'll watch more closely to try to not send any duplicates. Thanks again for the heads-up!

The ring

You are right there: Harry simply notices that the ring is no longer on the table, and no explanation is given for its location. I think I assumed that Dumbledore had given some sort of indication that he had moved it (which is what happens when I don't pay close enough attention to the sources), whereas in fact, we have no indication of its current whereabouts, except that it is NOT on the table where Harry last saw it (it's probably in a cupboard in the office, to be honest). I'll change that to fix it (i.e. to 'its current location is unknown'). Michaelsanders 17:33, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As he walked across the room, his eyes fell upon the little table on which Marvolo Gaunt's ring had rested last time, but the little ring was no longer there..."The ring's gone," said Harry, looking around. "But I thought you might have the mouth-organ or something."..."Very astute, Harry, but the mouth-organ was only ever a mouth-organ." Dumbledore confirms nothing; I suppose I simply assumed that no-one else would move the thing, and my memory played a trick on me (personally, I've always found that quote rather baffling anyway - how does noticing the absence of the ring make Harry wonder about the mouth-organ?) Michaelsanders 17:41, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If I remember correctly the mouth organ was an item that was stolen by Tom Riddle during his orphanage years that Harry seen in the Pensieve. Much like the ring was an item in worn by Riddle's Grandfather in Harry's trip into the Pensieve that occurred in the last lesson. Thus Harry believed that an item from his last Pensieve visit would be on Dumbledore's desk. (Duane543 22:22, 1 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Put a sock in it, or put it in a sock?

Hold on: am I just thinking of the movie? I thought Harry put the sock into the diary, not the diary into the sock. -- Nick Begovich 18:42, 1 February 2007 (UTC) ('Twas I who made the change!)[reply]

Yo, me and a few member of Devil May Cry Task Force have been working with Devil May Cry and it was recently nominated for Good Article, if you have time can you please take a look at it here, I want an editor with a large amount of experience here to pass judgement on it, Peace. - 22:40, 30 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Sorry for taking so long to respond I was out for the weekend, thanks for responding so fast; the article was upgraded to Good Article while I was out, but I think a peer review is required to work on it to raise it to Featured Article eventualy so if you can do it I will be very grateful, Cheers! - 02:11, 2 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Looking for deleted article text

Hi,

One of my articles (Dissident Sound System) was deleted recently before I had chance to bring it in line with wikipedia's guidelines. I would be very grateful if you could let me know how to get hold of the original text again so that I can resubmit it and make it acceptable to wikipedia's rules.

Many thanks- Toad 15:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's up?

Hey Deathphoenix, haven't seen you around lately. Your edits in March were fairly low, and your last edit was over two weeks ago. Taking an extended wikibreak? Hope you'll be back soon. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 03:42, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's understandable. I'm sure I'd have so much more time to just be me if I left the project, but it's just that high level of Wikiholicness. Glad you can stick around on and off though -- because without you, that'd be three respectable admins (with Hermione1980, who seems never to be returning, and EvilPhoenix) gone from WP:WPHP. Anyway, best of luck. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 15:04, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism pages

What the heck happened to WP:VIP and successor 'RFI' (?) -- don't see anything helpful to report squat! Did see your post here, but I don't know where to post an alert to watch for changes to Wikipedia:Welcoming committee/Welcome to Wikipedia, aka WP:Wc. This is showing a clear problem exists. I made an AN/I post and suggested the page be locked for a few weeks. Someone needs to round up the forces of light and goodness involved in antivandalism and edit some of these AV pages though. I thought VIP was supposed to be like AN/I, a rolling record of what's what where and when?! Nice to say hi anyway! Cheers! // FrankB 12:59, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Sienar Systems

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Sienar Systems, by Closedmouth (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Sienar Systems is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Sienar Systems, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. WikiProject Harry Potter roll-call

Hi there. Your username is listed on the WikiProject Harry Potter participants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. Your name has therefore been moved to a "potentially inactive" list. If you still consider yourself an active WikiProject Harry Potter editor, please move your name from the Potentially inactive list to the Active Contributors list. You may also wish to add User WP Harry Potter to your userpage, if you haven't done so already. Conversely, if you do not wish to be considered a member of the WikiProject, leave your name where it is and it will be moved to the Inactive Contributors section. If you wish to make a clean break with the Project you may move your name to the Known to have left section. Many thanks.

hi

sorry I didn't know how to message you in another way. I'd ask you to review and control the acts of one of wikipedia contributors, who delete even scientific or documented articles only because of his personal interests and practically vandalizing the wikipedia.. And his answer is “every1 on wikipedia is equal, if you are older or have more qualifications it really doesnt mean anything here.” The example of the page http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Michael_Jackson&oldid=154591006 , the "illness or dream project" could explain what I would ask you to direct. He deletes the article only because his a fan of Michael Jackson, and has no interest in facts that could be reflected in there. regardsT2345 19:36, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly we already no why michael Jacksons skin colour is white, it came out in court documents during his trial, this wish wash babble he talks of means nothing. Oh I didnt realise his english was lacking, shame I guess where ever he comes from they probably dont have Human rights so equalty would be a wasted word on him, it would explain his discriminatory right wing mentality. :-) Realist2 00:04, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind respond. I'm sorry for my hard words to him. Well I have always thought the medical truth about MJ could be more appreciated than terms like "bleaching himself" and so on which can cause serious health condition for many racial groups who may like to be white like him. But if I was wrong about what I did, and scientific facts are not much appreciated in wikipedia, I apologize again and this will be the end of my contribution. Penton Media

Hello my name is Anthony Carver. I work for Penton Media and I've recently been made aware of Penton's standing with Wikipedia. I've been forwarded an e-mail concerning Penton's history concerning Wikipedia. I would like to make efforts on the company's behalf to improve our relations with Wikipedia. It was never Penton's intention to spam Wikipedia. We would like to do what we can and what's necessary to become unblocked, and not make the same mistakes. Is there a time limit on how long we will be blocked? And is there anything we can do to help make things better? If we are able to become unblocked we will have a strict posting policy so as not to violate Wikipedia's content rules. We don't want to cause problems anymore than you want to deal with them. We appreciate your understanding.

'Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling. And every time we kiss I swear I could fly. Can't you feel my heart beat fast, I want this to last. Need you by my side.

'Cause every time we touch, I feel this static. And every time we kiss, I reach for the sky. Can't you hear my heart beat so... I can't let you go. Want you in my life.

Your arms are my castle, your heart is my sky. They wipe away tears that I cry.

The good and the bad times, we've been through them all. You make me rise when I fall.

Non-free use disputed for Image:David_Miller_with_veteran.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:David_Miller_with_veteran.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 23:48, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible spam on User Page

I wanted to send notice to you that this user has one or more links on her user page linking people to a shopping site in order to purchase Star Wars costumes. I believed it to be spam, and I kindly and openly notified her on her talk page. If you don't mind looking into it, I would appreciate that a lot. While I do my best to revert vandalism, policy violations in this area are usually passed from myself directly to an administrator. If you don't mind sending me a message of what I should do if I see this next time, I would appreciate it. I would not want to violate any wikipedia policies in attempt to revert or remove what looks to be against Wikipedia's spam policy. Thanks a lot. BeanoJosh 19:33, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW: What does it take to be considered for adminship? I have many reverts for vandalism, and I am beginning to participate in admin/user chores, including cleaning up articles from Wikipedias backlog. What else should I do? Thanks.

Re: Thanks for letting me know what happened to that userpage. I didn't know whether or not I could really do anything. And I've already read through the requests for adminship page. I didn't know whether or not admins "look for someone with a certain something or not and don't say it", so hearing that from you helped me out quite a bit. I'm starting to help out with some sysop chores from Wikipedia's backlog (to me what seems like a prerequisite since that is a question by itself when you apply). I've also been reverting a lot of vandalism, so that will help as well. Anyway, thanks for the message and I will definitely keep in touch with you. BeanoJosh 17:41, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

a question for you

I don't know the wikipedia rules when it comes to creating a user account and what words it may contain. Could you fill me in on this and link me to the page that defines these rules? I saw in the RC a new user creation log of User:Garotted nigger, and I don't know if this violates any policy. BeanoJosh 17:12, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One more question

Thanks for answering my question. I was pretty sure there was policy against inappropriate usernames, but I couldn't land my finger (or my mouse) on it. I have another question for you. I am desiring to change my username from User:BeanoJosh to User:Beano, but I am sure the name is taken. It seems like an inactive user and has no userpage. What can I do to request that change? Thanks. BeanoJosh (talk) 07:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Although I found the answer already, I just wanted to let you know that I successfully changed my username from BeanoJosh to Beano. What happens to all of my saved things in my old userspace? Deleted Article Summability criterion

Pursuant to a group AfD, you deleted this article. Would you mind placing a copy of it, with history, in my User space so that I can review it for possible return? Who are you to play God?

You have deleted the pages of several well known companies in the United States. Who made you God to decided what is or isn't a valuable page on Wikipedia?

You aren't even American. How do you know if a company is well known in the US enough that people want to read about it or not? I bet you don't even know which companies I am talking about while living in Toronto. If I create a page for a company that you haven't heard of you will probably delete it even if that company has several thousand employees and have tens of thousands of American customers.

Sometimes there are export restrictions on certain products such that only American governments can purchase that product. For a Canadian such as yourself you would not even be aware of that company's product's existance and you took down that company's page more than once without realizing that the company is as well known in the USA as Nortel is in Canada. I mean, how many people really know what Nortel is? If there were an American as stupid as you are they would have accidentally taken down Nortel's page as blatent advertising just as you had incorrectly taken down several pages in the past.

Think about the pages you marked for deletion and see if you can figure out which companies you did this to by accident. I bet you're too ill informed to be able to figure it out. You should stick to editing pages of Canadian content and leave the American content to Americans.

Je pense que tu est stupid, eh?

Replaceable fair use File:VC Beharry.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:VC Beharry.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kwekubo (talk) 10:11, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deathphoenix. The current policy for non-free content criteria states, "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." The subject of this article is still living, and remains on active service with the British Army; as such, a new free picture could reasonably be created which would serve the same encyclopaedic purpose as this non-free image. Fair use of the image can't be asserted under these circumstances. Regards. --Kwekubo (talk) 16:19, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't be disheartened; to quote the non-free content page again, "Being generous to the world sometimes means being hard on ourselves." An empty space where L/Cpl Beharry's picture should be is more likely to encourage a contributor somewhere to go out and create a fully free picture to fill that gap. --Kwekubo (talk) 18:08, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:VC Beharry.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:VC Beharry.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

MSU Interview

Dear Deathphoenix,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

 • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
 • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
 • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
 • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
 • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. April - National Contribution Month

Good day Deathphoenix,

During the month of April, Wikimedia Canada is preparing the National Contribution Month, and we are looking for experienced contributors to organize a contribution day (or half-day) in their region.

Contribution days are activities where Wikipedia's contributors, students, or anybody interested in contributing to Wikipedia meets together to collectively improve a predetermined theme. This meetings generally take place in library where references are easy of access, but can be organized in any communal room. Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.

If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to contact us.

Pierre de Coubertin

A relative of Luz Long contacted Wikimedia in connection with the statement in the Luz Long Wikipedia article that he received the Pierre de Coubertin medal. She is working on a biography of Luz Long, and does not have information about this honor. The Luz Long article isn't sourced, and the editor who first added the information is an IP. However, it is also mention in the Pierre de Coubertin article, which you edited.

I noticed that User:Joseph Dwayne added the statement, ...Jesse Owens after being adviced by his competitor, Luz Long, at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Long was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin medal for his sportmanship."

Some time later User:Deathphoenix add the word "posthumously'.

I'm sending this to both of you, recognizing that this was a decade ago, but wondering if you know where you got that information. I'd like to share it with the family.--S Philbrick(Talk) 01:43, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Interview for my dissertation

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Deathphoenix. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

 • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
 • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Deathphoenix.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Running Man Barnstar question

Hi Deathphoenix, I noticed you created the Template: The Running Man Barnstar + think the design is great - particularly the alt one. By any slight chance, would you be available and interested in creating a similar one for the Running Woman? Hmlarson (talk) 21:44, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

 • Well there's a blast from the past! I'd be happy to work on an alternate, but I see that all of my old Barnstars have been cleaned up with alternate versions. The alternate version of The Running Man is here and it looks gender neutral (not to mention a lot cleaner and sharper than my original). What do you think of that one? --Deathphoenix ʕ 18:19, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
