What the fuck?
I just went to the ref desk, tried to post a question, and it sent me here. Help. I then get "An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, so it has been disallowed. If this edit is constructive, please report this error. Disruptive editing may result in a block from editing."

Revision as of 15:33, 29 October 2018

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

    Indefinite extended confirmed: Persistent disruptive editing. - R9tgokunks 23:11, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. The article is already semi-protected and the only user appearing to be causing disruption there is Mikelangelus. This user already has a final warning; if it continues, report the user to the relevant noticeboard so that it can be looked into and the proper action can be taken. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:16, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite extended confirmed: Arbitration enforcement. WNYY98 (talk) 00:48, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected GABgab 01:13, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's been done by GeneralizationsAreBad and the article is extended protected. He just accidentally responded with the wrong template here. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. -- AlexTW 06:34, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There was a consensus to remove the old version of the page with scores for each game. That was replaced with basic tables and I have now replaced those with episode tables. The old version was being reinstated by mostly IP's so full protection isn't necessary. Matt14451 (talk) 07:50, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Declined - Not yet. It's only been edited and restored by an anonymous user once since the previous protection expired. The second edit restoring it was quickly self-reverted so I'm not counting this as disruption (probably a good faith mistake). Lets wait and see how frequent this disruption occurs first, and if the article revisions is restored repeatedly on the same day and by multiple anonymous users, file another report here and we'll apply semi-protection (or just let me know and I'll be happy to take another look at it). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:33, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP making silly edits, wont stop. Roxy, in the middle. wooF 10:47, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. The IPv6 /64 range has been blocked. This should resolve the disruptive editing issues you're observing here. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:52, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Politician apparently involved in some scandals (and not very popular). Repeated unsourced BLP violations. Probably bound to get worse due to an ongoing leaked tape incident. GermanJoe (talk) 12:10, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 12:42, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent block evasion - Bookworm8899 (talk · contribs). Abelmoschus Esculentus 13:21, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. esp https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/165.225.39.69 Rjensen (talk) 13:34, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 15:18, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP hopping, unresponsive vandal deliberately adding blatantly false information contradicted by sources in the article. After warning the editor he simply changed his IP twice so a block won't work. Edits to Australian article are suspiciously coming from Chinese IPs! --AussieLegend () 13:52, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template protection: High-traffic module. The invoking template {{Internet Archive author}} is already protected. GreenC 14:20, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Jc86035 (talk) 15:07, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: This is an old template that used to be used because the current functionality of {{lowercase title}} was not, at the time, technically possible. It also used, at the time, to be very high-risk; in fact, it was originally protected so long ago that I haven't been able to figure out who the protecting admin is (you could even make a plausible argument that it was me, back when I was an administrator, because I was responsible for the swapping of the old and new lowercase title templates). However, nowadays all the pages that want its effect use {{lowercase title}} instead (which is now possible due to upgrades to MediaWiki in the last 10 years); this sort of page (formerly very widely used, but superseded) is often kept around for the historical record, but there's clearly no longer a risk that would require template protection, and it's better for pages to be unprotected unless there's a good reason to protect them. --ais523 21:29, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected (but move protection left at semi). It hasn't been touched since 2009 and the use count is quite low; I agree that the template is quite old and mostly unused now that a newer template is now used in-place of this one. Keeping move protection because, while it's old, it shouldn't be moved unless there's a good reason to do so and should be done following a request that's reviewed and accepted. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:40, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Edit protection was removed; move protection was kept. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:57, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{Pagelinks}} template and then the reason. It looks like this: Example (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) your request here. ~~~~
