Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by HafizHanif (talk | contribs) at 05:23, 27 May 2021 (→‎Jesus in Islam). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – apparent refusal to discuss redirect per WP:BRD, as requested and against consensus reached at AfD. Vexations (talk) 18:15, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Fences&Windows 15:09, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Extraordinary amount of recent conflict between multiple ips and new user accounts (likely socks) about weapon article links and weapon names. Lots of bad faith; at least one new account has been blocked and several edit summaries have been suppressed. One from May 23 is still visible. BusterD (talk) 20:56, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:24, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. ― Tartan357 Talk 23:14, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – forms of vandalism such as changing dates, messing up infoboxes and high level of edit/attention since the subject of the article has recently passed away. Seeing how news broke out an hour ago, persistant disruptive editing will continue as most recent death articles face TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 23:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Persistent disruptive editing. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 00:35, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Malone has been the subject of ridicule for his terse reaction to a reporter calling him "Mike" which has led to IPs repeatedly changing his name on the page. 75.188.224.208 (talk) 00:42, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – vandalism. Joeykai (talk) 00:55, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary move protection: Page title dispute/move warring – Move-war. Please protect. Reverted undiscussed move two times per a request at the RMT. ─ The Aafī (talk) 01:58, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: High level of IP vandalism and / or having to explain to new users how Wikipedia works regarding cited material overriding opinions, lore, etc.. Looking at the history of this page, this is a constant time drain for editors who have to restore blanked portions or blatant vandalism time and time again. HafizHanif (talk) 02:09, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Do you see editing disputes on this page? IMO, the article should be semi-protected instead due to edit warring are mostly conducted by IP editors. 36.77.94.158 (talk) 04:34, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Answer: Simply browse through the history of the past week, and month, and further, and you'll see I'm not the only editor having to restore vandalism and take time to explain things to new users or passive readers turned editors. Lots of disruption from anonymous i.p.s. as well. Notice that today there have been FOUR anonymous i.p. users (including yours) blanking out a summary sentence. Four. You were one of those who blanked out that content. Eleven re-edits since the initial blanking out made by an anonymous user. Eleven. Only today. Yes, I think there is an issue. -- HafizHanif (talk) 05:23, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Almost every edit to this page has been vandalism by IPs and new editors. The only non-vandalism edits are the people reverting it. 🐍Helen🐍 02:29, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – This page is being edited frequently without sources and very frequently wrong information is being published. Anonymous users and newly created users are targeting this article and editing as per their wish. So it should be projected. Fire star on heat (talk) 02:45, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment: It seems more like preemptive request for me as it doesn't see any effort to persistently vandalize the article. If you concern like this or if the article persistently vandalize many times, temporary semi-protection would be suitable. Any admin can decline this preemptive request with few exceptions. 36.77.94.158 (talk) 04:05, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment: (talk), did you intend to comment under the Jesus in Islam article request? If so, the article has years of edit war evidence besides the recent disputes. -- HafizHanif (talk) 04:22, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Been getting foul language comments. FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 03:29, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP users continuously add non-Kurdish persons to the list. Wario-Man talk 04:59, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary protection: Edit-warring, mostly but not entirely among IPs and new users, due to a Reddit meme. There is an attempt at discussion on the talk page (Talk:Pig War (1859)#The headings) but the Reddit brigade is ignoring it. Unsure whether semi or full is better here. jcgoble3 (talk) 05:13, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Remove "the Israeli government has historically interpreted any criticism of its actions as antisemitism" from the last sentence of the last paragraph of the opening section.

This specific text should be removed, as it makes a poorly founded and sweeping statement via the wording of "any criticism", hence hurting the neutrality and quality of the page. None of the cited sources prove that the Israeli government claims "any criticism" of Israel is antisemitism.

Aside from the problematic wording of "any criticism", the text also links to another article on "Weaponization of antisemitism", which itself is a deeply contested and controversial discussion. The IHRA working definition of antisemitism has been widely adopted by numerous governments, academic institutions and NGOs and specifies instances where unfair criticisms of Israel, under certain circumstances, may be considered as antisemitic. The text in the article serves to directly dispute/discredit the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, which is inappropriate and biased for a Wikipedia article, particularly on such a contentious topic.

The text should instead mention the Israeli government's claims of antisemitism, while not claiming that it labels all criticisms as such. It is in fact incorrect to claim so, as numerous figures within the Israeli government itself, as well as prominent figures from Israeli society, are openly critical of Israel's current policies. Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.
