Article suggestion
[edit]Hello Jpbowen. Over at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Biography/Science_and_academia I tried to find a spot to leave a suggestion, but couldn't. I decided to make the suggestion here, perhaps you where to put it? It's nl:Robert-Aglaé Cauchoix, 19th C. astronomical instrument maker, held several lens size records in the time of the Great refractors. I found it to be a pleasantly compact article to write and best of all (for you): all references are in English. The last one gives a good, full biography. Regards, Sander1453 (talk) 10:18, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for the suggestion, this will depend on time available! — Jonathan Bowen (talk) 12:56, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- That makes sense: it's the same over here. Sander1453 (talk) 17:10, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- If you are able to install an automatically translated version (perhaps with some editing), I would be happy to give it a polish as a native English speaker. — Jonathan Bowen (talk) 19:13, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Allright: I'll take a challenge (almost) anytime. I wrote it over here too. See: Robert-Aglaé Cauchoix. Sander1453 (talk) 10:52, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- I have added categories and metadata, done some tidying, etc., hopefully an improvement! — Jonathan Bowen (talk) 22:40, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- I've noticed. Thanks. I've copied a citation to cover 1 (Fact?). Originally I intended to put in Abrahams as a broader source and leave the other two als refs. But some things over here do not quite work the same way they do on nl-wiki, especially the appendix template I use all the time. The answer to the other (Fact?) is in Great refractor. For this part of the article I had to explain something of the issue, but obviously not repeat the whole thing. Sander1453 (talk) 22:58, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- I did a small amount of additional editing, in particular avoiding a duplicate reference. — Jonathan Bowen (talk) 23:40, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

The article Balaclava Bay has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The disambiguation page is unnecessary and does not directly link to any Wikipedia articles.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. KJ click here 23:50, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Userfied the data
[edit]I've transferred the article for Apparatus to User:Jpbowen/Apparat (software). There's enough notability asserted to where I don't entirely feel comfortable speedying it, but I don't really see a lot of coverage out there to where I'd really be certain that it'd pass AfD. You can transfer it back if you like, but I'm sort of leery about its chances of survival via AfD if anyone decides to go that route. I think it might be better to work on finding and building sources in your userspace for the time being, as I don't want you to lose any of your data. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:08, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Waterloo Road, Hong Kong
[edit]The article Waterloo Road, Hong Kong has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I understand you do not think the redirect Whyte Musuem belongs. There are no speedy deletion criterion that are valid so it won't get deleted that way. Also blanking it like you did today is not appropriate. The proper course of action is to nominate it for deletion using the WP:RFD process. A discussion will take place and then an uninvolved admin will decide if there is consensus to delete the redirect. Do not do anything else with the redirect other than to nominate it deletion using WP:RFD. GB fan 22:33, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Bo. Cris Freddi here. Could you do me a favour and delete your comment on my page? The line in which you seem to suggest the page shouldn't be deleted. Not surprising, given that it was you who created the page in the first place! You did that without asking me first. If you had asked me, I would have said no thanks. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews
[edit]Hello Jpbowen. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.
The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.
If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)
If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.
Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Proposed deletion of Susan Bloch
[edit]The article Susan Bloch has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No reasonable claim to notability
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. CorporateM (Talk) 03:32, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Exeter College Chapel, Oxford - Stained Glass - Oct 2006.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Exeter College Chapel, Oxford - Stained Glass - Oct 2006.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Kelly hi! 18:42, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Category:Paintings of people
[edit]Do you think it would make sense to depopulate Category:Paintings of people and slap a {{container category}} template on it? Whatever the intent, this has become a de facto dumping ground for "any painting which includes an image of a person"; on a quick dip-sample there doesn't appear to be anything in there that actually ought to be in there. If applied in the sense in which it's being used, it would include probably 75% of the paintings ever painted ranging from Lascaux cave-art to animation storyboards, which is surely not the intent behind its creation. (It came to my intention when an overenthusiastic categoriser tried to put an illustration from Paradise Lost in there.) – iridescent 15:20, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

We noticed though that when you edited National Student Survey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Survey. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit]Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Glastonbury Abbey may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s and 2 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.
- List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
- Glastonbury. The abbot of Glastonbury kept great state, now attested to simply by the ruins of the {{Abbot's Kitchen, Glastonbury|Abbot's Kitchen]], with four huge fireplaces at its corners. The kitchen was part of the magnificent abbot's house
