References are not my strong point

I tried to put in the references for Anthony Kiedis, David Beckham, etc. Yikes! But I did find them when I searched it. Just search "(subst. name)" "Kabbalah". Like I said I tried to do it myself but it didn't go well. But I do see how that link is only Demi Moore and Donna Karan if that's what your talking about. Lighthead þ 22:41, August 15 2007 (UTC)

Somewhat-Belated RfA Thanks :-)

Is the merge tag still appropriate? The anti-clericalism is much smaller now and other aspects have been added to it. The debate on the merge certainly has not reached any consensus. The article really can not move on, for example with the name, while the merger is still being debated (or not as seems to be the case). JASpencer (talk) 20:08, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That was quick. JASpencer (talk) 20:19, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Laos

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2008 from the Bald One ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 13:30, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've put my name down for Wikipedia:WikiProject Southeast Asia/Laos work group. I'd noticed missing content on Laos like Burma and Vietnam. You still didn't respond to me about the Zinta article. Surely it meets GA criteria now referencing and POV has been addressed? 23:21, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks I'll see you Monday. Its just it is a kind of long term issue that needs resolving I think. It has had a tremendous amount of work on it and I don't like to see hard work by others such as Shahid go to waste -I feel it could very easily be a GA and agreed by everyone. There is also a film Unnale Unnale which I think could become a GA -Keep up the good work with the tagging anyway ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 12:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John. Amazingly Thailand doesn't have its own wikiproject yet. I know you are very busy but would you be interested in helping create a WikiProject Thailand. I can't believe it doesn't exist yet as there is so much to cover and discuss. The WIkiProject South East Asia is far too broad I think to aim at developing a series of countires as a whole -I;d imagine you agree. What do you think?. WiseKwai and Ahoemeister would perhaps be interested amd myself. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 13:19, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome work with the tagging and setting up projects!! Great work!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:53, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps we need create a SE asia task bar to connect the projects together? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK I've started Template:WP SE Asia Sidebar. Perhaps you can think of some things to add to it ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:20, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note that Singapore and Philippines don't have wikiprojects or task forces only the announcements/portal type pages ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:31, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I think the Singapore and philippine spage then should be moved to standard wikiporject naming then ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:36, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to disturb you again but I am going to rename Category:Cities in Burma as Category:Cities, towns and villages in Burma. I've just seen the encarta map and have realised that most places from places like Burma and Laos are completely missing. There are literally thousands missing. I think I should be aiming to set up articles like Hnonae with locators. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:30, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't agree more (I could see you were busy). Thats exactly how I feel. What I have a problem with is uneveness in coverage and that even large towns in other parts of the world haven't even been started yet when equally sized towns in the US and UK even have articles on the local leisure centre etc and multiple categories for it alone -and then you see how many other things could be covered as well!! -quite frankly it gives me a headache to think about it -it is larger than you can possibly imagine -but I am certain that this site has the potential to do this is in the future. We've got to start somewhere (at present there are one liners on cities with 500,000 people in China and Japan!)-it may be at least ten years before it begins to reach a more universal coverage-I am very pleased you have set up project places all across the world to try to at least begin to address the bias problem -this is the best thing that can possibly be done. At present though once again I'm finding it difficult to find a reliable and detailed resource for such places -due to incorrections with the place names etc and just lack of available details. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:59, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heres something you might be interested in . It would make a good DYK actually if I do some more work on it and add references. Hey no problems its Christmas time!!! Hope you liked my card. Hey have you seen the film The Motorcycle Diaries? It is an Argentine film and I saw it the other night -a brilliant film. The journey of the young Che Guevaro and his amigo when they were young physicians across South America. They crossed the Atacama to CHile and Valapaiso and into Cuzco and Macchu Picchu and Lima and then took a paddle steamer to a colony in the Peruvian jungle where they stayed at a leprosy clinic and disobeyed order to remain on oppositie sides of the river to those affected by the disease. Based around 1952 or 1953. A great film and the scenery was spectacular. The Bolivians and the Peruvians definately looked like they have CHinese ancestry -in fact some of the old peruvians looked curiously similar to the Tibetans (who are of course of Mongol descent). Two places in the world which are close to my heart, Tibet and darkest Peru!! (Paddington Bear was a childhood pal of mine LOL!!) Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:13, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Keyes A-Class Review

A while back, when Alan Keyes was submitted for review, you made a few comments on things needed to improve the article. I believe Stormie and myself have responded to these criticisms and fixed them more than adequately. Since only yourself and DrKiernan have looked at the article, I would appreciate it if you could go back through it and see if its up to A-class in your eyes now. Please come by if you can. We have DrKiernan's support. Now we only need yours. Thanks. --Jdcaust (talk) 20:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As i understand you are part of the Lead Paragraph Cleanups wikiproject, so i would be really grateful if you could expand the lead section of the article, because articles can't have clean up tags if you want them to be in a copy-edit. January 2008 WikiProject Chile Newsletter

I noticed while sorting through the Egyptian biography stubs that you had placed this stub back in April on several biography articles of Coptic Christians who while notable, were not notable because of anything with respect to their religion. Stub sorting is not intended as a substitute for categorization, in part because we desire to keep the number of stub templates on an article to as few as possible. Standard practice is to use religion stubs on biography articles only if a person is noteworthy if they have served in a religious capacity, acted to ensure the civil rights of persons following their religion, suffered significant persecution as a result of their faith, or otherwise was notable because of their faith. Being in a faith and notable for some non-religious reason is not considered a reason to tag an article with the stub template for that faith. Admin coaching

Hello John! I noticed your request on the admin coaching page, and was wondering if you'd like me to be your coach. If you already have another offer that's preferable, that's fine too. I've been through admin coaching myself, and would be willing to devote a lot of time to helping you improve as an editor, and eventually, become an administrator. Please tell me what you think. Best regards, Keilanatalk(recall) 19:27, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'd be delighted. You've done a lot of great work, and I seriously thought you were an admin until I saw your request. What would you like to learn about, admin-wise? Keilanatalk(recall) 19:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it, take all the time you need. I'm an eventualist. :) Keilanatalk(recall) 20:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need admin coaching! Get onto RfA already! :) (Actually, I'm not really joking. Wikipedia EN needs more admins, fact. Do you have any concerns that are holding you back? Anything I can help with?) --kingboyk (talk) 20:59, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm with Kingboyk on this one. Let's write you up a nomination and get this thing moving! It's far past time you had the tools. Pastordavid (talk) 22:59, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't want to be coached, I'll write you a nom if you want, you'd probably pass even without coaching. Keilanatalk(recall) 23:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do what you think is best. If you feel you need to learn more about adminship before standing, that's fine - coaching is the way to go. If you're happy to learn on the job, my advice is to stand now. You have a good record, a good attitude (assuming I haven't missed any controversy you've been involved in :)), and lots of ability. I'd be pretty surprised if you didn't get the nod and - we do need more admins! --kingboyk (talk) 17:02, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Somehow noticed your copyedits on a separate page for Preity Zinta. Thanks for taking care. I took the liberty to implement some of them on the article itself. I hope you don't mind. Although there were some mistakes for example "the" leading actress which is too praising.

I also didn't display the removal of cast members/co-stars which is a format in almost every possible FA and a sentences with lots of "also". Anyway, thank you so much for helping out. I just came to inform you that I displayed some of your changes, and that I hope you don't mind. Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 22:49, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK thanks, it's great that you're working on that, so that I can look and display your copyedits. Again, there were some mistakes, and info which was wrong, and some parts with too many full stops and "also"s, which I didn't display on tha page. That's why I'm happy that you're first doing it in on a separate page. That's how the goal can be achieved very soon. I really like to see this standard raising and improving. Great work, thanks and good luck!! ShahidTalk2me 17:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Man why is it wherever I go Shahid seems to have got theit first!! Yes it would be great if you could get Zinta where it deserves. Hey what do you think of the new Tibetan Buddhism template I created for Tibet in Monlam Prayer Festival? I'm rather pleased with it, I tried to match the colour of the robes with the burgundy!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:19, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Provincial capitals like Pursat etc which have tens of thousands of inhabitants as yet don't even have basic facts and are still one liners, yet places on provincial capitals in the UK and America etc would have hundreds , even thousands of articles on that place alone. What concerns me is that few people seems to care about it, nobody has even attempted to try to develop the major cities in places like cambodia, vietnam, Laos etc let alone the smaller settlements. Basically if you compare it to a developed country such as the UK - with Cambodia only places like London, Birmingham and Manchester are covered and have half decent articles -the rest of the country - 99% isn't even covered. I'm discussing it with you because you seem one of the few people who actually care about covering places evenly and are actively doing something to change this!! Tell me John, once you have finished your work on setting up the wikiprojects would you be willing to work with me a bit and help me try to expand and add articles on places such as this? I can't do it alone!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 12:27, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Endeavour River National Park actually included on World Heritage list?

Looking at above stub article' talk page history it seems you may have tagged this article as falling within Wiki World Heritage Sits project scope. Please note I have asked the World Heritage status of this Park to be verified, and have left message on the relevant editor's talk page to that effect.! Cheers Bruceanthro (talk) 02:34, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry .. as I actually live in the region, I'm probably more familiar with both the Wet Tropics plus available internet resources. I'll now post external link to alow resolution map of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area on Endeavour River NP talk page, arguing that Endeavour River National Park is NOT part of Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Perhaps, after a day, I may then remove World Heritage edit, categories, and tags?!
I also note this possible mislocation has been carried over on to the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area page. I was keen to work on THAT page anyway, so I may also remove reference to Endeavour River NP from there, and begin the work of actually identifying and naming all those parks that ARE part of the Wet Tropics! In the mean time I'll add highly pertinent and relevant external link that page! Thanks Bruceanthro (talk) 00:19, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.. I'll remove World Heritage references, categories, and tags for this and for Wet Tropics articles. Heard nothing back from original editor. Cheers Bruceanthro (talk) 22:29, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

Ok, John. This is to notify you that I am ready to move this nomination to requests for adminship. I, and many others who know about such things, have been trying to convince you that you would be a wonderful asset as an admin for quite some time, perhaps actually seeing the nomination in print will persuade you. I know that anyone who has your talk page watchlisted will happily agree that you are beyond qualified, and would make a great admin. If you will accept the nomination, I will move it into place. Pastordavid (talk) 19:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Away we go! Pastordavid (talk) 21:17, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hiram Abiff

Came across this going through your edits for the RfA nom. May I make a suggestion? I would word this article in terms of "According to Masonic tradition ..." I say this primarily because the biblical account does not identify him as Hiram Abiff. Later Masonic tradition does, and it is from that tradition that the details come. By analogy, in dealing with WP Saints, there are many individuals about whom we say "According to Christian tradition ..." because there is nothing outside of the traditionaly accounts about their lives. In terms of WP Saints, this allows the reader to determine whether the traditional account is history or legend (or fiction), rather than drawing the conclusion for the reader, one way or the other. I think the Abiff article could benefit from the same sort of detached description. Pastordavid (talk) 21:21, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

African wikiprojects

John have you split the African wiki projects yet. I certainly think WikiProject Kenya should be sorted as with most of the others. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:01, 7 January 2008 (UTC) Looks like you;ve set up a taskforce but why isn't the parameter working e.g AfricaProject|kenya=yes? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah your're not kidding about not being able to get access to the locked templates. Editors like you and I are clearly core editors on here and should have admin tools anyway -it is clear we are both very contructive and unlikely to "vandalise" them. I have never been able to even edit the Template:Actors fully despite having set up the project on Actors and Filmmakers itself!! I don't know how we are supposed to add the parameters and assess those articles then. I'm glad you've decided to go for adminship this will be very useful- see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Warlordjohncarter. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:26, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that but you'll have to discuss the changes with Shahid, User:Shshshsh rather than myself see if he is happy with it. I currently rather busy sorting out the museums by state. Of all the 250 million Americans its left to moi to clean up!!

Check out

I split mostly of them yesterday from a directory list and am making them encyclopedic by turning them into table format with images to liven up the boring pages!

You must be pretty pleased with the turn out so far at your rfa -amazing support. Nice to know you are appreciated huh (even if most people never thankyou or seem to be aware of the work you do!) Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good work John thanks. I;ve just split Category:Cities, towns and villages in Burma. I think it is necessary to set up the infrastructure ready to build it. PLease let me know what you think ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:09, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you find a way of putting them in alphabetical order? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blofeld of SPECTRE (talkcontribs) 19:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks -I;ve just figured a way out to index them in alpha without bloating it into different letter sun headings -I;m fixing it now. As there are 35,000 settlements and thousands in each state it prepares for the growth. I awlays prefer to label the categories cities, towns and villages as I like it to cover all settlements and not have all sort of confusing seperate categories on cities, and villages labelled as cities etc. We should be able to get the main towns and citiesin the country set up within a week or so =then of course there will still be 34,700+ potential articles for settlements!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:21, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You;ve set up so many work pages but I must admit I was a little surprised to not find any activity on a country as huge as Kazakhstan, I would have expected a small wiki project in the least. Does Wikipedia:WikiProject Central Asia/Kazakhstan work group have any parameters yet. Personally I think its best to set up seperate project banners and say it is part of the Central Asia group and then assess articles by country in sub categories and then link them in one WIkiProject Central Asia articles -what do you think? ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What? What sort of an editor would revert the parameters? I really think its best to create seperate banners and cateogries and then have them feeding into a main regional project category like I suggested. Given time I don't see a reason why most countries can't develop enough activity -it will take time sure. What have you been doing with Africa then? ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:08, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well thats the thing, your edits shouldn't have been reverted, each edit is valuable and time can't be wasted. It does disappoint me to be honest that some of the state groups in America are inactive. Given the global size of this project particular the high percentage of American users its not what I;d have expected. Yes I afully agree with you workgroups are the best way to start and you've done a marvellous job on this, but what I am saying is that it would be very useful to set up the necessary infrastructure -e.g seperate assessments and banners for each country and have them feeding into the main WP regional category. This way each country can have a rigid form of assessment and identity but at the same time the workgroup doesn't have to be a formal project. i think this would save a lot of effort in reasseeessing articles in the future if certain workgroups gain enough support to become fully fledged projects e.g Category:GA-class Kenya articles rather than labelling them "workgroup articles". Given my core priorities on wikipedia I should be helping you set this up every step of the way ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I have displayed a major part of your copyedits on the page, and it looks terrific. There were some mistakes which I didn't display. Also, according to User:Sandy, words that are simple like dimple, basketball, cat, moon should not be linked.

I think that it can be nominated for an FA:) but it's better to wait for Dwaipayanc. For now, we can definitely nominate it for GA, but tell me please, can't we just ask some GA reviewer to review the article? The problem is that (from my earlier experience) it just takes ages! It took us two months, until we asked some reviewer to review the article. What do you say?

Again, thank you so so much. Regards ShahidTalk2me 14:28, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well the editor I asked to review it previously is now absent unfortunately. Anyway, thank you so muchh for your efforts. It's greatly appreciated. :) Regards, ShahidTalk2me 17:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather not do that review, as it's at the bottom of the list in that section, meaning it was newly added as opposed to other editors that have been waiting for GA Reviews for quite some time now within that subsection (sometimes over a month, I know personally from experience from my own GA noms :) ). However, I tell you what I will do, I can review the article and give it an actual GA Review of my own opinion of how it matches up, pass or fail, against the GA Criteria, and make a detailed note of that on the talk page. That way, when a GA Reviewer does come by from WP:GAN, a review will be laid out for them ahead of time. Also, if you want to move things along, it is always helpful and appreciated to pick some other noms, from above your own in that section, and review those. Cirt (talk) 21:00, 9 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

  • I would still highly encourage you to do some reviews from higher up in that section. I always try, though I don't always do it on-time or hold myself to it, to review at least one or two noms for every one that I self-nominate at WP:GAN. Cirt (talk) 21:04, 9 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Please clarify

I'm wondering why you've added your name to the spurious Arbitration request which has been initiated by Onecanadasquarebishopsgate‎ here. You don't appear to have edited Principality of Sealand, participated in any of the talk discussions related to it, or had anything to do with Onecanadasquarebishopsgate‎ until today. --Gene_poole (talk) 02:01, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying that. The Arbitration request is such a preposterous blancmange of lies and misrepresentations that I'm sure that any Arbitrator who looks at it for more than 3 seconds will simply dismiss it out of hand. In my opinion the best thing to do is simply sit and wait for that to happen. --Gene_poole (talk) 02:18, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Question

I just posted a follow up question clarifying what I meant. I was quite vague in my question so that's my fault. And also I don't think you were "evasive" answering the question about mistakes... I personally would have a hard time remembering too unless it was major and someone made a big deal out of it. Most importantly, you acknowledge you aren't infallible. :). Good luck on your confirmation (from the looks of it, it's going great). Dr.Kane (talk) 02:57, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name

I'm not positive (since you've used the account), but I believe that you should be able to usurp the username, perhaps swapping edit histories. (They move the edit history of user John Carter to user:alternate name; Then they move user:Warlordjohncarter to user:John Carter; Then they move User:alternate name (which was user:John Carter) to User:Warlordjohncarter). Presuming that they will, of course. Normally the target account must have made no edits, but since this account is yours, they might?

Hope this helps : ) - jc37 03:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information. I've listed myself there. There seem to be rather a few listed in front of me, but there's no real rush here, I hope. John Carter (talk) 20:33, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're very welcome. If there seems a backlog, you could post a note at WP:BN. Here's to hoping : ) - jc37 21:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, now I'm curious: Did User:John Carter (prior to the rename) lose all his edit history? Or was it merged with the current edit history? Or what? - jc37 11:32, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Email re: Jaron Lanier

Thank you for your message on my talk page. I just sent you an email, but I couldn't forward the emails from Jaron using the "email this user" link, though. As I think it's best if I forward them to you rather than copy/paste. Thanks again.  GeeAlice  19:55, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I forward the emails to you. Hope I sent them correctly. Let me know what you think, and any direction for me would be very appreciated. Though, as you probably can tell, I'm ignorant of Jaron Lanier's area, and not good with biographies, at least those I know nothing about.  GeeAlice  20:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I didn't expect a reply back from him so quickly, if at all. Now that I have, I feel responsible for the article. Dang-it. ;p I agree about the B/W image, but like you said -- it is clearer. Though I have another concern about the image more-so than it being B/W, I believe it to be a professional head-shot. That means even though Lanier is the subject, the copyright may belong to the photographer and that photographer may want credit for it. I'll look around for more images and email Mr. Lanier about the sources of another color, but clearer image. As for the missing information in the article, I too will try editing a bit in the next couple of days. But, I reserve the right to change my mind. lol. Thanks for all your help. It's appreciated. :) Cheers! Oh, what do you think about posting the email to the talk page of the article. Well, not the whole email, but what he feels is missing from the bio? -- in order, hopefully, to attract other editors more knowledgable becoming involved. What do you think about that?  GeeAlice  21:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to keep bugging you. (from my talk page): Even though he gave me permission to "pass the note" along? How can that be problematic? Is it because of COI? It can't be privacy, can it? As you saw the email where he even asks to pass it along. I'm just trying to do the right thing, for both Wikipedia and the subject. Thanks again.  GeeAlice  22:13, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images

Hoz that for an image?. Thats going straight on the Vietnam main page. I have sorted out some image permits from flickr -Mike Russia at flickr has banks of images from burma, cambodia and vietnam which he is licensing under GFDL (this will probably need giving an OTRS ticketing). If you are interested have a look at the images I've uploaded so far. He's one great photographer! It make ssuch a big difference and I guarantee there are millions of image we could use if we asked ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:36, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its an almost iconic image of the south china sea isn't it with the sunset and the fishing boat. I remember they tried to emulate it in Tomorrow Never Dies with Wai Lin and Bond off the coast on the boat remember -but failed miserably! Have a look at the images I managed to get for Hsipaw. The local school as well. I love images of places which are normally very difficult to get hold of. Hopefully we can get tons of images of El Salvador and Guatemala - my sister is visiting there alone in the summer. Crazy isn't it. Those countries have a strong reputation . I've made good progress with Ekyaw today anyway -over half of the provinces now have templates and the core places started. Anyway if there are any places which you know of which require images such as Bolivia etc feel free to give me a list and I'll look at making some more "alliances" with flickr users and upload them. Can you think of any towns/places offhand with are in desperate need of images? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:52, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:WikiProject Mexico articles WP Mexico which is even an official project doesn't even have any article assessment yet either. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you've been active with Mexican related stuff I see. Yesterday I tried to sort out a pin map for Mexico so many of the towns and villages can be improved with infoboxes but apparently there was a problem with creating it according to User:MJC Detroit. I drew up alist of missing maps yesterday (even ones like Argentina are missing) and soon enough hopefully it will become possible to add an infobox and locator for all settlements where you can add the coordinates and details -this would be a good step to improve evenly. There is a tremendous amount of work and tagging that needs doing for Mexico I know. I'm unactive today as I've worked very hard for days. I see you've changed your user name to just John Carter and caused a holdup earlier today? LOL Thats a rather more serious name -was this a requirement for adminship or your own choice? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 18:08, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

John Carter (character) right? John as a fictional name isn't quite as unusual as Ernst Stavro Blofeld now it is!! lol. What is your real name? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 18:35, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes the name Warlord for an admin might not go down to well with some. Shouldn't really matter though. I wonder what they would think of having a bald evil old villain with a white cat and a volcano for a home as an admin. "Blofeld the Bald". "The Bald One". Names like "The Wikipedian" or whatever are just a tad too boring. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen the message below at the bottom. Chuckle. I;ve just checked out User:John Carter/Mexico tagging. I can't believe there are so many subcatgories!!!! Mut be some kind of record was unassessed articles. Thats quite a shock there was nothing to support it, no assessment at all. Yet WikiProject Pokemon was organized back in 2001!! It makes me wonder if certain people on this site are still in nappies (diapers]]). lol. Anyway I can see you have your work cut out. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:49, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm..please see your email

I had to start a new heading because something is wrong with using the section I had begun before

Anyway, please see your email. I have received another email from Jaron which I forwarded to you. It's getting more complicated now.  GeeAlice  02:08, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I got your email, and replied. I'm going to research some of those terms he mentioned in the first email. He did say to Google them, to see what I'd get. Oh, I also colorized the B/W image that is on his homepage. I think I'll use that one, until or if he sends me another one. He did say he would be willing to do that. I do have his permission right now to use the one on his homepage. Gonna try doing that now, and hope BetacommandBot, or whatever that bots name is, won't kill it. ;p  GeeAlice  03:30, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you SO MUCH for your support in my unanimous RFA. Take this cookie as a small token of my appreciation.--Jayron32|talk|contribs 06:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Chief

Chief, as you know, until we get a 3rd member (at which time there will be no titles) you are Chief of the WikiProject Africa/Democratic Republic of the Congo and I am the Assistant Secretary to the Chief.

What do you think about this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Turtlescrubber

I came with a neutral observation and call for peaceful consensus in an argument which I was never involved in. There is so much hate there. What would you do, if anything? As an observer? As an observing admin?

My objectives are clear...help 2 people do their 2 articles to reach FA, work on the Toyota Prius article, and then do Congolese related articles. Good luck on your RFA which I've supported and hope that the chief will become administrator and chief. Congolese fufu (talk) 07:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have much courage to discuss that problem on ANI when your RFA is ongoing. I made a few comments and quickly saw that several people there were extremely hostile and incivil. Looks like your RFA will pass. Changing your name makes it more mainstream but the warlord part was funny. It when well with the title of Chief that I bestowed on you. There doesn't seem to be much interest in the Congo work group. After I finish the tasks on hand (3 articles, 2 of them FA's), I'll work on that. Congolese fufu (talk) 05:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

username

Just to be clear: I did not at all mean to say that you're belligerent. My opinion about the warlord part is not a judgment or allegation of any kind, it's just that I personally think even stricter criteria apply for admin usernames, to avoid possible confusion or an intimidating effect, particularly with newbies. To give another example, I mentioned the "drama" in User:Lradrama's second RfA. So, I appreciate your move, but you're certainly not belligerent. Although if it were indeed the case, I'd be less inclined to point out the issue (but I probably wouldn't support either). User:Dorftrottel 19:04, January 11, 2008

It was probably the moving of all the logs and the changing from the old username entries in all page histories to the new name, being queued for processing all at once when the 'crat hit the button. As to a certain tendency to stab first ask later: All I can say is, me too. User:Dorftrottel 19:17, January 11, 2008
I think it was a good idea to rename - technical blips aside - I supported due to your long positive participations but similarly had an issue with the name which would have stopped me from supporting had you not been so well known in a positive way. Agathoclea (talk) 14:58, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John, I'm wondering about my own username now. "Fayenatic" is meant to be memorable and a slightly humorous tribute to a popular singer, but it's entirely possible that the name contributed to a recent perception/accusation of being fanatical. I might seek RfA in a couple of months; given your recent experience, would you advise me to go for a deed poll, or not worry? - Fayenatic (talk) 15:40, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You recommended an RfC.[2] So, I just thought I'd mention that we've already tried an RfC.[3] Generally speaking, I think this article could definitely use more eyes watching it, so I'm glad you've taken an interest. Maybe we didn't operate the RfC properly. If you think another RfC might be helpful, I hope you will start one. Anyway, good luck on your RfA.Ferrylodge (talk) 20:22, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So, it looks like you agreeing to the religious background section didn't last more than 24 hours. Huge surprise. Turtlescrubber (talk) 17:56, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I remember that, that was when you claimed a consensus to get the article unprotected. However, there was no consensus and there article was swiftly reprotected with a version you didn't like. Funny. Can't you ever tell the whole story. Seriously, what is wrong with you? Turtlescrubber (talk) (UTC)

Missing locators

OK I've red linked the templates ready for creating here -see User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Missing locator maps I've begun working my way through them. As always Dutch wikipedia has everything sorted out and has the digits which can be quickly copied. I've begun creating them like Template:Location map Argentina etc. After this we will be able to add an infobox and map locator to any place on the planet. Dutch wikipedia always seems to run more efficiently than us ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 13:20, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes!!!!! I've created maps for all of the places on User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Missing locator maps. This means any article on most countries in the world can have an infobox and exact locator!! E.g see Baku, Sanaa, Aweil, Aného, Simikot. And it works!!! This is major news for world places -now each place can have a map whatever the size!!! I;m so happy about this!! This will affect tens of thousands of geography articles eventually!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 18:18, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've started Wikipedia:WikiProject South America/Bolivia work group but with a project banner. It will need sorting out with assessment categories. Why did you miss out Bolivia before? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:39, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome. I would have been willing to help you set up most of the work groups themselves -all you had to do is ask. Its funny but I thought I'd come across the bolivia work group page before - I must have been mistaken, I'v created a banner but when you are ready.

Those locator maps for every country are extremely useful -I began adding some to some of the Honduras stubs earlier. It is shocking how underdeveloped some of these places are. Meanwhile check out the images I've been uploading to Demographics of Eritrea etc. That freedom to use that guy;s images is wonderful. I;ve already uploaded images for Battambang , Kaokoland, did some Somalia and Eritrea ones earlier and am now uploading some Djibouti ones! Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:40, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For instance see Barentu, Eritrea. With the combination of a flickr agreement and adding the infbox map it really helps without evne adding much text content. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:46, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I had a go at creating my own map!! Now see Azul or Buenos Aires etc. I can't believe it works!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 18:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whats happening here? - the banner has been created but no content. I'll redirect to the work group for now -thats odd that somebody created the template without a project ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:10, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well if a bot can do it then theres no point in me wasting my time and doing so. However it would be a very good idea to create the banners for the new work groups, each one can connect to the main work group pages and regional work group anyway, Each country needs an assessment of its own regardless of work groups though doesn't it like Bolivia etc. Yes Mesoamerica -historical articles can interfere somewhat with modern boundaries. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:22, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Might be a good idea to create the banners ready and just place them at the foot of the project pages until they can be put formally into operation -perhaps a note can be made that as yet they are under construction until they can be sirted out. Do you have any list of work group articles which need assessments? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be a very good idea to start the missing banners such as Template:WikiProject Benin ready so that articles can be assessed and coordinated as soon as possible. The thing is if a bot pasted them in the talk pages it can't assess the articles though can it. Why has it taken 7 years for anybody to think about a formal assessment by country??!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:29, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm. Not good. The more you look into it - the more you realize how globally disorganized and uneven this project is and the more it needs some serious organization. More people need to get out of the habit of thinking of the world from where they are in it and try to think of it in terms of an encyclopedia which should try to cover places evenly. At least 85% of all geo articles are stubs. I've been browsing over the last few weeks and I'd be surprised if even 5% of the articles on cities and geo locations are up to an acceptable standard. Some cities with populations of 300,000 odd are still one liners and are not even tagged yet! Africa and Latin America are naturally the worst. I'll have to try to figure out about assessments myself then somehow. You;ve got enough on your plate as it is ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:45, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Central America would be a good place to start. For example the largest province in Guatemala, the lsrgest city in it Dolores, El Petén - see what I mean -theres thousands like this. Its tagged for central america -all it needs is guatemala-yes but are you certain a seperate banner to give the article some sort of national identify wouldn't be better or at least have the template to show -this article is supported by the Guatemala work group. you know what I mean for example the WP actors reading on the WP Bio banner ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:57, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldnt have a problem with the regional banner if it displayed the work group and the national flag on the actual banner itself -e.g this article is supported by the Guatemala/Nicaragua/El Salvador/Honduras etc work group etc. For example see the assessment for Talk:Gyantse. It shows that the article is part of a work group by indicating Tibet on the actual china banner itself. If there is virtually nobody contrbiuting in the group its probably best to keep the reguional banners then but I want to see the work group displayed on the banner. I'll see if MJC Detroit could do somthing for guatemala, nicaragua etc. You never know that may increase traffic to the wrok groups thmselves and generate interest ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:11, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something like that displayed on the Central America template etc for the relevant country

This article is supported by the Guatemala work group.

This article is supported by the Nicaragua work group.

Hello - noticed you added an oppose after it was removed from WP:RFA, figured I'd let you know. It was untranscluded by Majorly because (as I noted in the discussion section) the candidate did not make any edits to the page around the time of the transclusion, and the user who added it to WP:RFA was the first opposer. I've since closed it per WP:SNOW and so more !votes aren't added while it is not transcluded. Avruchtalk 22:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Micronations

Please check my talk page. We are discussing editor behavior at Sealand. You'll have a mop soon. I am currently uninvolved and am trying to diffuse a conflict that turned into a request for arbitration that was rejected. Jehochman Talk 19:01, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the editor involved is keen and means well, but is perhaps a little too attached to the subject to create a strong, neutral article. I attempted to help by giving it a good copyedit and examining the sources, but not much has happened since then. It looks like your interventions have been useful, however.
Talk:Principality_of_Sealand#Sealand-related_articles - There's plenty of Sealand cruft out there, and it's not just in the main article. It's spread throughout articles on the fort, the forts, and on Mr Bates. I'd planned to trawl through it but it was just too much work at the time. --kingboyk (talk) 19:27, 13 January 2008 (UTC) (I don't need a reply unless there's anything you need to say to me personally about it the article talk page is fine)[reply]

Any way we can get this deleted? One look at the talk page shows it to be incredibly POV and political, where other groups are held to high standards. Chris (クリス) (talk) 03:43, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This arbitration case has now closed and the decision may be found at the link above. Dbachmann is reminded to avoid using his administrative tools in editorial disputes in which he is personally involved, and to avoid misusing the administrative rollback tool for content reversions. Afrocentrism and Race of ancient Egyptians are placed on article probation. For the arbitration committee, David Mestel(Talk) 20:10, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!

I know that a 'crat hasn't closed it quite yet, but it is time and I'm heading offline for a couple hours. John, congratulations on your successful RfA. I do believe that that is what is known as a ridiculous landslide, and it places you well up on the WP:100 list - and unanimous at that (I don't really take Gurch's neutrals as serious on RfA)! I think it merely shows what I and others have been saying - you are extremely well suited for the mop and bucket - which I am pleased to give you. You certainly deserve the support given to you in this RfA.

There is a great essay with WP:AFNN. The see also section on that page also has great resources, including the New Admin School, the Reading List, and the How-to-guide. At the end of the day, of course, everyone uses the tools differently, and finds different ways to pitch in and help out. I have no doubt that you will find your niche as an admin, and the ways that you can best use your new tools to help the encyclopedia. If there is anything I can do to help, any questions I can answer, or if you just want to talk through your new admin tools, just drop me a note. I don't have email enabled at the moment (connects to my real-world identity), but I will send you a note so that you ahve the address. Again, congrats! Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

*issues post-RfA congratulatory message* On second thoughts...

Some advice!

Congratulations on your recent acquisition of the mop. I offer to you a few words of wisdom:

  • Start slowly and carefully. There's a huge temptation to start flying through your new duties as soon as the 'crat pushes the button - resist it. Avoid close calls for your first week or two, and leave it to those who happened to get their tools a little earlier than you.
  • Be sure to connect in with other users on IRC, if you can. There's a whole pool of channels there where you can get assistance in your newly-acquired buttons, and get your new colleagues used to your name.
  • Be ready for criticism in your first few weeks, but at the same time don't be a push-over. If you feel worried over a decision, get another user to take a look at it.
  • When blocking, ask yourself if everything you've entered into that form will benefit Wikipedia: is the block length sufficiently long to prevent further disruption by a vandal, or is it so long that it will put them off ever returning? Is your protection just going to be a minor hiccup in the edit warrior's grand scheme of disruption, or will it hinder the growth of the encyclopedia?

Best of luck with your new buttons, and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.

Congratulations!

Your're now an admin? Wow that was quick but I;m not surprised. Congratulations and thanks for the card (please don't behead me though lol) I;ve never seen such a turn out -there never seems to actually be that many people around!! If you had desired adminship I would have nominated you over a year ago but I thought you had turned it down like me. There are many positive advantages to being an admin as well as some difficulties lying ahead, you as much as anybody seem equipped to deal with them. Well deserved anyway. All the best!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:59, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA thanks card

Hi. You recently put an RfA thanks card on my talk page. I appreciate it, however, its formatting seems to have changed the font color and size of everything below it. I fixed a few html errors in the thanks card, however it didn't fix it. If you know of some way to correct this, It'd be appreciated. Thanks. Timmeh! 23:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

goodbye

Because of overzealous attacks against me by Jehochman, I will no longer be editing the three articles that I was working towards FA status nor Congo articles. Jehochman went on a rampage RFCU. His RFCU claims were disproven and according to another user, he lied about the category.

WP:SOCK#LEGIT allows multiple accounts for segregation and security. The multiple accounts edited separate articles.

A multiple account was necessary because of the controversial nature of User:Profg. Editing about him would bring stalkers to the 3 FA contenders. Edits about User:Profg were never meant to defend him but to point out things that the community was overlooking. The community shouldn’t overlook everything that a user says simply because he is bad. One member of the community said he was seeking a ban just to make it easier to accuse others. These is a diabolical scheme.

What good does is exposing User:HappyBirthdayClubMember? That’s like exposing the identity of Santa Claus. Congolese fufu (talk) 02:46, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
