What is wrong with an article about a book series?

Why would you delete my article? It is not advertising at all. I am very disappointed. I have made donations to Wikipedia in the past. I will never make that mistake again, you delete a factual article for no reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Baolan27 (talkcontribs) 04:42, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible it sounded like advertising in its tone, even if that wasn't your goal. Maybe you should try to submit it through WP:articles for creation or make it on a user subpage if you want to recreate it? - Purplewowies (talk) 04:54, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Are we talking about Poets Corner Group? If so, then the subject may possibly be notable but the article itself has multiple serious problems. It is indeed written in advertising language, not the neutral, factual language required for an encyclopaedia article (for example, the first line is "Poets Corner is not only an idea, but a dream" and continues in a similar style). It contains the line "Our motto remains: 'With a will, to conquer by the quill'", which makes it abundantly clear that the person writing the article is a part of the organization so there may be questions of neutrality and conflict of interest. It contains a list of the organisation's non-notable staff (unnecessary) but no clear, factual description of what the organisation is and what it actually does (necessary). And of the five references you gave to support the article - none of them inline, just bare URLs - one is a sales listing, one is a blog, one is the organisation's own website and one doesn't work, leaving only the article in The Hindu as a single genuine independent source to show the organisation's notability, and one such source is not enough. The criticisms of the article as it stands are perfectly justified and it needs a lot of work to avoid deletion. Karenjc 08:49, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi there,

I just uploaded an image but by mistake put the wrong copyright status in. I would now like to change the status. How can I do this?

In the FAQ on uploading images it says "after uploading, you can still click the edit button and make changes to the summary and the license, if you have made a mistake." But when I do this, I only see the code which generates the copyright status I would like to modify. What I need to do is go back to the upload form where you answer questions about the copyright status of the image. Is this possible?

Thanks very much. JenCawe (talk) 10:18, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's not possible, you have to edit the image information page. Are you referring to File:ATLAS Collaboration Map 2010.png? If so, what is the correct license?--ukexpat (talk) 13:14, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Need help to removed red-links.

I have a specific question regarding an article that I'm translated in my userspace: User:Mentoz86/List of Norway international footballers (1 – 24 caps). As this is copy pasted from no:wiki, the entire "national team career"-row have red-links that is not used on en:wiki, and I want to get rid of them without removing the text. Anyone got any tips or tricks on how to do this, without doing it manually? Mentoz86 (talk) 12:39, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copy into a text editor and replace [[ with and empty string and the same for ]] and then copy and paste it back into your draft. RJFJR (talk) 13:21, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Redlinks are useful things - they cause people to write articles. The best way to get rid of them is to turn them blue by writing articles about them. To start just a few lines briefly detailing who the person is/was and what they are notable for is sufficient. Roger (talk) 13:25, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep the redlinks on the footballers, but I'm not going to write articles like these:Category:England national football team results about the Norwegian team, so I want to get rid of those links. Will try RJFJR's suggestion later, but I don't think it'll work because the red-links have piped text, and it's only the pipe-text that I want to keep, not the name of the articles in Norwegian. :S Mentoz86 (talk) 13:57, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I use a text editor designed for programmers that has a macro function that might be able to handle that but it would be tricky and need to be watched. Doing it manually may not be as bad as it sounds once you get into the flow of making the repeated changes. (Sorry, I didn't realize they were piped.) RJFJR (talk) 14:07, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've now done it manually by replacing with a space, for the 20 different article names, and replaced 1 with 1 for all digits. Could be done easier, and now the problem is that there are too many spaces in between. But thanks for the help. Mentoz86 (talk) 15:49, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    File deletion

    Hello,

I uploaded an image file that was to be used in an article about the motion picture production company I work for. The article was marked for speedy deletion, and I am now revoking any Creative Commons licensing. I would like to know how to delete the file, or would like to have it deleted. If this is not possible, I will claim copyright violation and begin legal procedings to have the image removed. The file in question is located here: File:Malfunction films.png

    Sincerely yours,

David A. Barak— Preceding unsigned comment added by Creativehumanoid (talkcontribs) 14:54, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You do not need to begin legal proceedings to have an image deleted. Since you have requested it, I've added {{db-author}} to the image description page. Are you and User:Dbarak the same person? He (his account) is the one who uploaded the image, not you. - Purplewowies (talk) 15:15, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We will almost certainly be accommodating, but you are going about this the wrong way. For example, licensing as Creative Commons is irrevocable, so you shouldn't be stating that you are revoking the license, you have no standing to revoke the license. You should be politely asking if an exception can be made, in light of the fact that the intended purpose of the image is no longer in existence. I think that is a reasonable request, and support the deletion of the image. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 15:25, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have deleted the image. I am sorry you found your experience here unpleasant. The usual way to request this kind of deletion is to add the tag {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Rmhermen (talk) 16:23, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Article edit count?

    Hello Wikipedia Community:

This summer I'm doing a bit of research on Wikipedia entries in the field of Science and Technology Studies. A central question I'm asking is the extent to which this field, as it is now on Wikipedia, includes, features, and references the contributions made by women, feminist theorists, and feminist theory. To answer this, I'm gathering data on existing pages using mixed methods. One piece of information I'm interested in finding out is how many times a given article has been edited, by whom, and what types of edits have been made over time. I've found the "history" tool useful, but not all that easy to use for my purposes. For instance, while it is common to have a list of how many edits any given *editor* has made, I find it is not easy to see how many times an *article* has been edited. I've been downloading the edit history and manually calculating this, but I thought it would be worth asking around to see there might be an easier way to collect this data, and any related data regarding type and kinds of edits.

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

    Best regards, "Shameran81" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shameran81 (talkcontribs) 21:04, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Naraht Thank you. That is a nice tool to have at hand. The information is very much summarized, however. RE: RJFJR Thank you. I can probably sort out how to process/extract data. I imagine the dumps are big. Are downloads of a particular article available or does the whole database dump have to be downloaded? Shameran81 (talk) 20:08, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of the first letter is optional so CarolCasey and carolCasey are both valid but anything with casey is not. It sounds like you once wrote casey in Firefox which then stored it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angela_Gregovic

I have a problem with the above referenced page. Ms. Angela Gregovic has listed on her page that Vera Gregovic is her grandmother. This is not true. Vera Gregovic had only one child, Floria Gregovic, on Decemeber 12, 1948. Floria had three children: Vera (1977), Romulus (1979) and Nicholas (1983). These are the only grandchildren of Vera Gregovic. I know this because I am Romulus Gregovic, grandson of Vera Gregovic. I do not know who Angela is or if she is a part of my extended family, but I do know that my deceased mother Floria was an only child due to a hysterectomy that my grandmother Vera Gregovic had in approximately 1954, and that there are no other siblings for Floria Gregovic. The only decendents are Nicholas, Vera, and myself, Romulus. Angela Gregovic is not the granddaughter of Serbian actress Vera Gregovic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregovic79 (talkcontribs) 08:56, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have deleted the information: that is fine: anybody may delete unreferenced information from Wikipedia pages. Wikipedia Language in Coded Messages

A million thanks to Mdann52 for a excellent job of removing my present name from Google searches. Now, when they hit on my present name, they just get a "run-around." Thanks again! Franklin Paladin (talk) 09:57, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Question. I have tried several times to do the same for my former name. All to no avail. The unfinished Biography had been ripped out of my personal Sandbox and with great clumsiness displayed in a truncated form - three pages were missing at the end. As of today the unwanted "hit" for Google is still there:

QUOTE User:FRANKLIN P/BIOGRAPHY - WikiPedia Mobile by ... wiki.verkata.com/.../BIOGRAPHY_-_PETER_WILLIAM_RAINIERCached You + 1'd this publicly. Undo User: User:FRANKLIN P/BIOGRAPHY - PETER WILLIAM RAINIER .... Peter W, Rainier, who started writing while an emerald miner, continued this from his ... UNQUOTE.

What does this wikipedia coded message mean?: "You + 1'd this publicly. Undo User:" Sounds like someone in Wikipedia really tried to help, once ? How do I get this Biography back into my personal Sandbox and my former name reference erased from Google searches once and for all? Franklin Paladin (talk) 09:57, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The quoted Google result is from http://wiki.verkata.com/en/wiki/User:FRANKLIN_P/BIOGRAPHY_-_PETER_WILLIAM_RAINIER. We don't control http://wiki.verkata.com. They scrape our pages but are not affiliated with us. Apparently they don't respect the noindex tag on Wikipedia pages. Google respects noindex so you don't see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:FRANKLIN_P/BIOGRAPHY_-_PETER_WILLIAM_RAINIER in Google's search results. The correct noindex code for Wikipedia is __NOINDEX__ as displayed here and not as written in the source of this edit. Your code in [1] is incorrect but it doesn't matter in this case because __NOINDEX__ is already added by {{Userspace draft}}. If User:FRANKLIN P/BIOGRAPHY - PETER WILLIAM RAINIER was deleted then maybe the copy would eventually disappear from Google's index. Would you like the page deleted? Can you confirm this by logging in as the page creator User:FRANKLIN P and request deletion? This help desk is indexed by Google and will soon show up in Google searches on "FRANKLIN P". Would you like that prevented by hiding all occurrences of the name in this discussion? PrimeHunter (talk) 11:43, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you PrimeHunter (talk) for your fast and really hopeful response. I Franklin Paladin was the true owner of the Peter W. Rainier Biography. So,yes, please delete the page: User:FRANKLIN P/BIOGRAPHY - PETER WILLIAM RAINIER as you offered and yes, please fix the talks in the help Desk so that both my names, past and present are erased or deleted as you suggested. Many thanks.Franklin Paladin (talk) 19:25, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted the discussed userspace page and shortened all occurrences of the name on this page to Franklin P. The change breaks links. The section before the change can be seen at [2]. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:40, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear PrimeHunter: You do good work and the former references are now null for Google Surfers. There is a December 2011 help Desk item and also one from 17 March 2012 that cite the defunct name but I can live with them. The best part is that the following internet address which was provided as a cross-reference in another Person's Biography is now "off the air." QUOTE Http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:FRANKLIN PANGBORN/Biography - Peter William Rainier UNQUOTE Now, when one "hits" on this address, he or she gets the same null result as your colleague Mdann52 fixed it up for User:Franklin Paladin. Is there any way to see "Feedbacks linked" or "Related feedbacks" just like Special:RecentChangesLinked.

I just saw that my watchlist now contains an option named Feedback from my watched pages », just under the page title, to go to feedbacks of those articles. But I have moved many articles from my watchlist to a user-subpage so that I can use it as another watchlist through Special:RecentChangesLinked. What should I do to see the feedbacks on pages with links on a particular page (Analogous to Special:RecentChangesLinked). This would have been very helpful for WProjects as they could monitor the feedbacks and take immediate actions on articles. ···Vanischenu「m/Talk」 10:06, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's a really good suggestion :). I'm adding it to the to-do list, but I'm not sure when we'll be able to get to it (development on new features rather than on fixing bugs is ending soon). There is a feature that allows you to see feedback from pages you've watchlisted, if that's helpful? Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 16:39, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you!
If you are referring to Special:ArticleFeedbackv5Watchlist, then it wouldn't help me unless I put every article on a particular WProject to my watchlist. So each member of particular WProject must put every article on their watchlist in order to see feedbacks and take actions collaborately.
But, creating a special page for related feedbacks will not help all WProjects as this would require creation of a page that lists all the articles of the particular WProject. Short answer is no. Checkuser is only to be used when there is reasonable evidence of sockpuppetry. It isn't for "clearing your name." I would advise the IP to either gather the evidence to request a checkuser or drop the allegations as they are a form of personal attack. Valenciano (talk) 13:19, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    likeness law

In the U.S., for use in Wikipedia, what is the law (apart from copyright or trademark) on using an image of a living person who may be recognizable to a third party but who may not have consented to the use, including commercial use (Wikipedia or maybe Wikimedia requires that licensing not exclude commercial use), of their likeness, who may not be a public figure, where the image is to be used other than for an article about that person (it may be used in an article about an organization or a product), and where it may be possible for someone unknown to interpret the image and its context as an endorsement of the organization or product by person/s in the image?

Further, unless the law completely bars such use for a likeness of an adult anyway, is the law more restrictive where the person may be a minor or incompetent or may be under age 13 or as young as approximately age 4?

If news or some other noncommercial use is permissible, do all of the pages in Wikipedia qualify?

If personal consent or the consent of a parent, guardian, or custodian is required, how is consent to be established? For example, is it to be postally mailed to a Wikimedia Foundation office?

I don't know whether an image is made where privacy is expectable. I assume privacy is not of concern where consent exists, even if the consent is obtained after the image is made. But if consent is not required, where is privacy expectable (or, if easier to address, where is privacy not expectable)?

Can a caption solve the problems?

I previously discussed this at Wikimedia Commons. Because they address Commons, providing the image to Commons is not problematic and there's no issue with use until someone copies or links from Commons to elsewhere, so it was suggested that I ask where use is contemplated, which, in this case, is in English Wikipedia.

I'm inclined to caution in this matter, meaning I'd rather not use an image if it might violate the law, rather than go to the law's limit. But an image with people would be nice to use.

This looks burdensome and I wish it weren't. Perhaps I could use the reply to post guidance somewhere on a Wikipedia page, since something like it seems to be missing.

    Providing Sources

    Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Siebert Realty

    Good Afternoon,

I am trying to write an article about our company, Siebert Realty, that turns 50 this year. I have been with the company for 26 years, so I know alot about its history. I'm having trouble getting the article through because I don't have enough sources to backup what I've written. I have tweaked the article alot since I first posted it, trying to make it sound less like an advertisement... and more like a wiki page about the company.

I recently found a history book that a local writer put together about the Sandbridge area. We are briefly mentioned in, but not much. I plan to include that source as a footnote. Can you give me any other suggestions in how I can document my article. Is there a website that houses information that I can use (company registers, etc.) We're not a huge corporation, but we do have a big presence in our community.

Any help you can give me in getting my article published would be greatly appreciated.

Kathy Frierson <redacted> — Preceding unsigned comment added by FriersonK (talkcontribs) 14:49, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The big problem is not sourcing but the tone of the draft. It reads like an advertisement for the company and that is not permitted.--ukexpat (talk) 15:51, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    WP:ORGFAQ may help as well. --ColinFine (talk) 19:54, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I work for a government agency. The law was recently changed regarding the student services we provide. We need to edit the page.

I have been put in charge of editing our wikipedia page. Is there a way for government agencies which provide services (in this case student financial aid) to create an account to be able to edit pages immediately?

Who should we contact to verify our legitimacy and set this up? Everything in the FAQ seems to deal with private firms who may use the opportunity to advertise or shill. We provide financial aid, and have zero motivation for any of these things. Also, we would like our account name to reflect that edits are made by us, for credibilities sake. The ToS poo poos that. Is there an exception for government agencies?

    Thanks.

At Wikipedia, the credibility of information is not established by who edits it. Indeed, Wikipedia has a strong policy against editing under a conflict of interest, which is why we discourage people from having "official" accounts, and why we also discourage people from editing articles where they have an interest in promoting the entity described in the article. Information at Wikipedia is based on information which is published elsewhere in reliable sources, for something as simple as the services your organization provides, just leave a link to the source of the information. That is, if you have a press release announcing the changes, or a listing on your organization's website listing your services, that should suffice for the changes to the Wikipedia article. If you leave the information on the talk page of the article in question, it can be checked out and fixed. Does that help answer your questions? --Jayron32 16:27, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The prohibitions on promotion makes no distinction whether the subject promoted is commercial or not. Wikipedia is for digesting already published information, not for telling the world about anything, no matter how worthy.
On the subject of user names, accounts on Wikipedia are personal for reasons of attribution. They may not be shared, and may not have names that suggest that they represent or are connected with an organisation. See WP:USERNAME. --ColinFine (talk) 19:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Come on guys, you're treating this like they are here to manipulate the article. All they are trying to do is update facts. Ryan Vesey 20:02, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We discourage agency accounts and we don't allow any accounts that can be accessed by multiple people. I suggest that you create a personal account and edit from that. On another note, you shouldn't even need an account if all you want to do is update some information in accordance with new legislation. Just make sure you provide a citation to a reliable source when you modify the information. You can learn more about citing sources at WP:Referencing for beginnersRyan Vesey 20:02, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Article Title Incorrect

    Hello,

The article for our company is incorrect and i would like to know how I can fix it. It is listed as "Dion's" when it should be "Dion's Pizza" Here is the URL for the article: Dion's (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Thank you, Ryan

    Ryguy8112 (talk) 16:28, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you can provide sources that prove that this is how the chain is generally known and referred to, then someone will move the page. Note that the official name of the company is not what is important here, but how it's known. BTW, the website appears to be unavailable ATM. The only other on-line source quoted in the article, the coloradosprings.com article, calls it just "Dion's". Rojomoke (talk) 16:48, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why you speak in the imperative. Wikipedia will not cease to exist if an article doesn't have a lead. However, as explained in several places in the MOS, it is expected that all articles have a lead section. If it disturbs you that an article doesn't have a lead section, you are allowed to make it better. --Jayron32 17:03, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with viewing the Computing Reference Desk with Firefox on Windows 7

Copied from the Miscellaneous Reference Desk:

This has been happening consistently for several days now. When I browse the Wikipedia Reference Desks at work, the Computing desk takes minutes to load, and then loads without any CSS information, just the plain HTML. Other desks, such as the Miscellaneous and Language desks, work OK. At home, the Computing desk also works fully OK. I use Microsoft Windows 7 at work (I have to, it's the company's development platform) but Fedora 14 Linux at home. I use Mozilla Firefox at both places. It can't be a bandwidth problem - the Internet connection at work is faster than my own connection at home. What could be causing this? JIP | Talk 21:36, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Redonda Stamps- Whence?

I recently discovered some attractive stamps from Redonda- but no listing in Scott catalogue. Given your interesting description of an uninhabited island, I must wonder where they came from and by whom! Any advice appreciated! Bruce davidson

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.Template:Z25
But since you ask: Redonda is a dependency of Antigua; the latter country issues stamps with the name of the island on them, which are even less useful in a genuine postal sense than most small-country issues for the collectors' market. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:25, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One way to do it is to click on the name of the relevant section in the article's table of contents and then just copy/paste the URL from your browser's address bar. Deor (talk) 15:51, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As noted, clicking on the table of contents should work. Generally speaking, if an article has more than 2 or 3 sections, it will have a Table of Contents. If it is shorter, there's not easy way that I know of to find a specific section, but it is generally not needed in such a short article. On Jump Up! entry I added a link to Air Studios Montserrat. The link is active but the name does not appear just the number "1". This is my very 1st edit on Wikipedia. I would like the link to be correct so that it will stay. I got into this because of the Elton John bassist suicide in the media today. I was concerned who died because during the recording of Jump Up at Air Studios Montserrat I babysat Davy Johnstone's and Nigel Olsson's children. Everyone was wonderful to work for and the children were delightful. The volcano on Montserrat blew in 1995 and 2/3 of the island population had to flee (thanks Wikipedia for that entry!). By chance, a regular middle class American girl was blessed to experience an incredible time in a gorgeous place with amazingly nice and super talented people. So, the link would be appreciated. Air Studio Montserrat gave me and many musicians fond memories. I think Elton John even married a woman from the Caribbean at the time. Nigel Olsson's wife (she and her husbands 2 different accents were adorable!) wished I could tour Asia with them but I had to go back to school. Then, I think their hotel room got robbed soon after that while on tour. I remember being glad that I wasn't there for that! Well, thanks for reading and your help will be appreciated! Peace and best wishes! The post is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump_Up!

I converted it to a reference, however, I didn't see anything that stated the album was created there, did I miss something?--SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:02, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Repeating items on the Help Desk

A little while ago I put a question on the HD, which got no responses, and eventually rolled off into the archives.

Fair enough, these things happen. What I want to know is: is it okay for me to put the same question up every now and then (say, once a month) in the hopes that new people will see it and be able to help? Would this be considered spamming?Ordinary Person (talk) 15:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If it didn't get answered, feel free to post again. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:04, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see you asked a question, Wikipedia:Help_desk/Archives/2012_August_9#Ranks in Tables that was not answered. I have never seen a way for anything in tables to be automatically updated. I think if add in a new row you will have to update everything manually. GB fan 16:52, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I remember that question. I started to look into it, thinking it would be easy, then got distracted, and didn't follow up. The folks that hang out at WP:VPT are pretty good at technical table isuses, and can give you a better answer, if one isn't forthcoming here soon.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 20:03, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I, for one, see nothing wrong with posting the same question over and over again, if you don't get a reply. The only thing to note is not to do it too frequently. Once per hour or once per day is far too frequently. Once per month or once per a couple of months shouldn't be a problem. JIP | Talk 20:04, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I found this article and want to forward it to whatever WikiProject would deal with it but I can't even tell what it is. Does anybody know what this is? Is it eligible for it's own article or should it be redirected to HomotopyRyan Vesey 16:10, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    That definition is discussed in Homotopy#Relative_homotopy, so I guess a redirect would work. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:15, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot login and I seem to get the result that I have never posted anything. My handle was YouRang and I recently tried to update my account to realize that I have a new email address. Another way to assist - responding to article feedback

You may have noticed a new link at the top of your watchlist ("Feedback from my watched pages"). I have just reviewed some of the feedback on my watched articles and most of it was constructive and easily resolved by pointing users to relevant help pages, the reference desk etc or by minor edits to articles. Just a thought if regulars here are interested in responding to feedback.--ukexpat (talk) 16:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Local eye witynesses claim his remains may have bveen removed by US shortly after wars end in 1946/47. The page for the Marduk album Rom 5:12, was created as ROM 5:12 in 2007. In 2008, someone created the page Rom 5:12, which later was changed to a redirect to ROM 5:12. I believe ROM 5:12 should be moved to Rom 5:12, as that is the name of the record, and ROM 5:12 should redirect to Rom 5:12. I can not do this as a normal user, as far as I know.

    Paul Ryan

It appears that the talk history on Paul Ryan does not mention the disappearance of the brown noser reference. On Saturday, there was a mention that his high school classmates had voted him Biggest Brownnoser. By Sunday afternoon, that reference had been excised. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.94.169.207 (talk) 22:05, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Multiple Infoboxes

Do I create draft article in 'user page' or 'sandbox'?

Hello, I'm writing a draft of a potential article (biographical). I don't want it to go for any formal review until I have finished it, although I would welcome people looking at progress and making suggestions/adding things. There is also a conflict of interest issue as I was related to the subject. So do I write it on the 'user page' or make a 'sandbox' page? Or would it be better to just write it in Word and transfer it later? What I don't understand is whether a work-in-progress can be seen by other people, and if so, at what point? There are references to the subject in other Wikipedia articles - the name appears in red - will these become live links to the article-in-progress, or only when or if the article is approved for publication? Thanks TuttiFruttiCherryPie (talk) 02:22, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage at User:TuttiFruttiCherryPie should remain about you. A sandbox would therefore be best. You can put it under whatever title you want while you're working on it. So either User:TuttiFruttiCherryPie/sandbox or User:TuttiFruttiCherryPie/John Doe would be fine (replacing John Doe with the subject's actual name). Those links will only turn blue when the article is moved to the main article space. While conflicts of interest are avoided, they aren't totally prohibited. It's just that most people find it hard to write objectively about someone they know. See WP:COI for more on that. While the article is in your sandbox, anyone can see it and edit it. Generally other editors won't touch it unless there is some glaring problem with it that is affecting other main article space articles. Or if you are making claims that you cannot back up with sources. For the most part, editing someone's sandbox uninvited is considered rude. I think that covers everything you asked... Dismas|(talk) 02:37, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your prompt & full reply TuttiFruttiCherryPie (talk) 10:53, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All saved edits are immediately visible to everybody but there are places few people will look without being asked. A user subpage like Dismas suggests is possible but for a new user wanting to create an article, I recommend you use Wikipedia:Article wizard instead. It helps you get started and places a noindex tag to avoid search engine indexing of the draft. Click "Create new article draft" and not "Create submission for review" when you get to that choice. Then you can work on the draft and ask for help before submitting for review. Red links in articles will not link to the draft and it will not be in mainspace which is where the "live" Wikipedia articles reside. If your submission is accepted then the reviewer will move it to mainspace where the red links will change to blue links to the new article. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:50, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    ISBN

Most books listed in Google Books, etc. have two ISBN numbers. For example: This book lists ISBN 1576074226, 9781576074220. What is the difference? Which one (or both?) should be used in a citation template? I have usually taken the first one; but I have a nagging suspicion that the existence of two ISBN numbers actually means something. The article International Standard Book Number has not enlightened me. --Amble (talk) 07:07, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image provided by a company for use in a press pack

I would like to use an image from a press pack provided on the page: http://www.sjm.com/corporate/media-room/media-kits/patient-conditions-and-therapies/pns-for-chronic-migraine.aspx The company allows use of it if a credit is written below it. The company says on the media relations webpage above "Credit any images and video as follows: Images or video provided courtesy of St. Jude Medical, Inc." I tried uploading it under fair use and ticked the box about it being from a press pack, but it has been rejected. Can this image be accepted under any circumstances? It's a perfect illustration and is free to use if the credit is added. I'd appreciate any advice. Pnsmigraine (talk) 08:24, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I do not believe hosting of this image is permissible under our fair use policy as it is replaceable by a free equivalent image, either existing or which could be created.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:16, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It would be helpful if you told us in which article you want to use the image and what purpose would be served by the image in the article. Otherwise it is impossible to tell whether the use is acceptable under fair use or not. But the image here is unlikely to be acceptable in any article per what Fuhghettaboutit said above. -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlkctb) 12:33, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
