Reverting multiple edits

How do I revert multiple consecutive edits to a page (like 7 or 8 of them) with one action back to a previous version? Or is that even possible? Thanks Creativewill (talk) 00:02, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

In the "Edit history" go back to the last good version. At the top of the column, you should see a link that says, "Restore this version?" Use that link to, y'know, restore that version. Obviously, this only works if you want to revert ALL the changes since that version; but if somebody's been monkeying with the article for a number of edits, it's a very useful item indeed. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:20, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

"restore this version" only appears when Twinkle is enabled at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets, and it only appears on diffs and not on revisions. You are quoting from the lead of Sildenafil. "[3]" is a link to a supporting reference [1] which says women so it shouldn't be changed to men. The effectiveness for men has been demonstrated. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:14, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Greater leeds or leeds city region

Wikipedia is a great source to get information, however with all public sources things can be made up entirely.

Leeds is a city within west yorkshire, but some people have claimed of a wider leeds that includes the proud and independent councils of wakefiekd, kirklees, calderdale and bradford.

Such claims are fooling people and destroying students grades when they use information in education. Such examples are destroying the accurances of wiiipedia and tarnishing its name.

Such lying editors and pages that are big should be verified with official sites to make wikipedia look more responsible

Richard Hickock

This may be a little trivial but some of the history you have on Richard Hickocks past is wrong.....he didn't go to Olathe HS, he worked in Olathe at a garage....he went to HS in Efgerton, Ks....his first wife was 16 when he got married and was pregnant and they had 2 boys, then he had his fling with a girl who became pregnant and divorced his first wife to marry the girl he got pregnant...yes his parents were farm people in Edgerton, KS...my moms family grew up not far from them and i have been told many stories about him not only from my mom but my aunts also2605:6000:380A:9B00:1410:273F:3E2C:EF78 (talk) 04:38, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Olathe North High School claims his name, and the article says that he was an athlete there. Is it possible that he attended more than one high school? Wikipedia needs reliable sources to back up statements made in articles. Can you find anything published elsewhere about Dick Hickock? You are welcome to challenge any unsourced statements, and discuss corrections on the talk page of the article.

[Different Contributer here] By "Efgerton" I presume you mean Edgerton, Kansas? That city's article doesn't mention a high school at all, though it's rather short. In 1950 (when Hickock turned 19) Edgerton's population was only 266, while Olathe's was 5,593: their populations in 2010 were 1,671 and 125,872 respectively, and the Olathe School District alone currently has 5 high schools. Note that Olathe North High School –

". . . was founded in 1883 as Olathe High School. The school moved to its current location in 1958 and changed its name to Olathe North High School in 1981."

It's not needed if you are linking to a page in mainspace or talk, but you need the preceding colon to link to a file instead of displaying the image, or to link to a category instead of putting the page into the category. Deletion of the original LaFlavour (band) Wiki page, and refusal to act on proposed page

LaFlavour (aka La Flavour) are a musical group who have been in existence for more than half a century, beginning in Massillon, Ohio in 1967. They are famous for the worldwide release of "Mandolay", which reached #7 on Billboard's Disco Chart in 1980, as well as the follow-up single "Only The Lonely (Have a Reason to Be Sad)" which cracked Billboard's Hot 100 in June of 1980. Both the album & single of "Mandolay" received Billboard Music Awards in the Disco category. A quick glance at Discogs will reveal both the album and single were released in 13 countries on 5 continents. Prior reasons given for not including LaFlavour on Wikipedia have been "not enough national press". My question is (I hope I've come to the right place to ask): WHY have you included a Wiki for Jimmy & The Soulblazers - who also hail from Northeast Ohio - when they haven't come anywhere near as close to achieving LaFlavour's success & recognition? The original LaFlavour version of "Mandolay" was featured both in the movie and on the soundtrack album for the Paramount release "Kiss Me Guido". "Mandolay", the single, also topped the Cashbox charts in 1980. "Mandolay" is still played DAILY on Siri/XM's Disco Channel "Studio54". The Soulblazers never achieved anything remotely close to this. The point is - if LaFlavour cannot - for whatever reason - have presence on Wikipedia, what "rule" enabled Jimmy & The Soulblazers to be included? This is absolutely unfair, unbalanced, and represents only one example of an uneven playing field with regard to inclusion of entities in the entertainment industry who have not made near the impact LaFlavour have. Hello, Potatorndo. I'm afraid you can't. That is a file on your computer, so there is no way that anybody reading an article would be able to access it. Anything linked to from a Wikipedia article (or any other website, for that matter) must be hosted on a webserver that the Internet can request it from. You would need to upload it somewhere first - or if you downloaded it from somewhere (which I'm guessing you did, because it is in your downloads directory) you can use the URL where you downloaded it from. --ColinFine (talk) 21:32, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Grandmaroo. Why do you think that might be a suitable piece of information for a world-wide encyclopaedia? If your piano teacher meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, so that there could be an article about her, then by all means add her to such lists. But if she is just an ordinary person like you and me and 99.99% of the people on the planet, (even if she is a wonderful piano teacher) then I'm afraid she doesn't belong there. --ColinFine (talk) 21:38, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

It looks as if you worked out how to do it. It would be a good idea to complete the edit summary box at the bottom of the edit window. Otherwise, your edits could be seen as disruptive as there is no explanation. A source, such as a death notice or obituary (personal knowledge does not help here) would also be useful. I assume you read the MOS on linking, "Items within quotations should not generally be linked; instead, consider placing the relevant links in the surrounding text or in the "See also" section of the article." Currently your question is a bit broad. If this section of the MOS is unclear, could you please specify the question, so I myself or another reader can give a more meaningful reply. Plague of nbsp

I'm having problems editing African bush elephant. I'm attempting to edit and fix "John Hopkins University" to "Johns Hopkins University". However when I edit, even if the only thing that I do is add the s, the article is also changed by having 6 or so   added. See for example https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=African_bush_elephant&type=revision&diff=811390238&oldid=811389990 . Ideas on what's going on and how to fix it? I suffer from time to time from the same problem. I hadn't realised that it was associated with WkiEd. If you look carefully at the version before Naraht's edit you'll see that the   characters are present, so I think that all that WikiEd is doing is making them visible as such. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:52, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Yes, wikEd replaces Unicode non-breaking space characters with their html entity   in accordance with MOS:NBSP. The Unicode characters were added 10 November in [2] by Abknych who maybe has software which changes two normal spaces to one space and a non-breaking space to produce more spacing. Yes, there was no reason for non-breaking spaces and I have deleted them.[3] But detecting them as Unicode characters can be difficult, and two normal spaces after punctuation is allowed by Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Spaces following terminal punctuation. Dear J.D. Holiday, to keep it short, no you cannot. Wikipedia is an enclopedia. If a subject is relevant someone else will write about it. Wikipedia is not a place for an author bio about yourself. The user page is indeed meant to write about one self, however only to help in working together with others on Wikipedia. It is not meant to promote yourself or your website. If you can supply notable claims that would meet the necessary requirements for inclusion at WP; you are more than welcome to submit a request for an editor to write an article here: [4]. 1. No. The article cites only two sources. The first is a directory entry, the second includes a short interview with him, and tells us only that he is "one of the world’s foremost authorities on the Book of Samuel".

2. No. Those two sources refer to him as "P. Kyle McCarter" and as "P. Kyle McCarter Jr", not as "Peter Kyle McCarter".

3. I haven't checked; but probably not.

No. It's not available to those users.

Obviously, it is stored, so is theoretically available to Wikimedia Foundation employees.

If concerned, you must be very careful: if enabled, anyone can send you an email (using "email this user") - they will not be given your email address, but if you reply, they will of course be given the address that the reply came from.

Wikimedia takes privacy very seriously, and there is little to be worried about regarding your account information, although depending on your security/paranoia level, nothing is 100% secure if it is on the internet.

• Your premise is faulty. You can ask here any question relative to how to edit Wikipedia, no matter how trivial or non-urgent, if there is no better place that you know of. If there is a better place, we will point you to it, but such redirections are part of what the HD is for. Bothering people with newbie questions is what the help desk (and the Teahouse) are for.

I mean, for really urgent questions (answer needed within the hour) the IRC chan is probably a better shot, but I do not see any question that is both really urgent and appropriate for the help desk. Hello. How can I search the revision history of pages for text? I would like to find some text, that was removed because it was not sufficiently cited. I can no longer find it, but I know some words it included. One of them is "the most noticeable", as far as I can remember.

information in source cited is an image

I've run into a situation where a source is cited, but the information cited is not in the text of the source, it is derived from observing a photograph in the article. Would this qualify as original research? Identify if my account is hijacked.

Hello. Web pages such as Google and Twitter offer users the ability to see the logins from IP addresses to the user account. Check user means: See who logged onto an IP address.

• The anon claims that he does not know what does WP:DUCK mean but the same anon is quite familiar with WP terminology to know WP:SUBST [9], a much lesser-known WP page. How to make template embeddable

I am trying to make {{Ordination}} embeddable in other infoboxes. I've added the child syntax and modified the abovestyle in the template's sandbox, but when I try to embed it, the template just appears smaller, inside the other infobox as a parameter, not as an embedded template. I have tried around with the syntax and have gotten it so that the template will embed in another template. However, the remaining problem is that I would like the header (color and text determined by abovestyle and above) to appear in a slightly modified way for when the template is embedded. The ref tags are not necessary at that point. I believe this has been pointed out several times before. As the 'other books' do not have them, they should not have been added. An additional heading is not essential but you could add something like 'Footnotes' above the reflist template and possibly 'Sources' after it (above the list of books) if so desired. • Well, you can obviously crop an image or display it with a larger size parameter (see Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax). But the way I understand your request would be for the reader to be able to make a particular image element larger, for instance hovering the mouse over the image would display it in larger size. @Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: I went down the rabbit hole: that behaviour is caused by the (wonderful and underused, IMO) Template:Location map (the London article includes {{infobox settlement}} which calls it via the pushpin_map key). That template itself calls the Lua module Module:Location_map whose source code is provided and (relatively) short.

I am not up to the task myself, but digging through the code for the part that makes an alternative display and making a template {{display alternative image|imageA|imageB}} that allows to switch the image in a similar fashion is probably fairly easy for a Lua programmer. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi the switcher for the location maps is controlled by MediaWiki:Gadget-switcher.js, which is more generic. you can see examples (without location maps) in Template:Switcher/testcases. you can find a very simple example in User:Jackmcbarn/switcher as well. SE Ranking

I am a small business and trying to find out why my web site cannot be seen. I have joined and have read many articles about getting your site seen on the www. When I run a SE ranking Wikipedia come up as the top site under roofing, yet you are not a roofing company. What I read said you need to link to Wikipedia to get seen. I joined and still confused because this is an information type web site and not a business web site. I could write an article (not the best writer or can spell) about being a woman and owning a roofing company but who cares. So I am asking how is it possible to link my company to this site. @Totalrestore1985: Wikipedia is high in search engine results because we are the fifth most visited website and have millions of incoming links from other sites, and millions of articles including some about roofing. We are an encyclopedia and not a tool to help other websites get traffic. We add nofollow to external links to deter people from trying to use us to improve their search rankings, so I think you got wrong advice. The first five Google results for me on roofing is from the English Wikipedia. That does seem a bit extreme but we don't control Google. A Google search om totalrestore1985 shows they do know your site. It just doesn't place highly in general searches like roofing. Search engine optimization can be difficult and there are millions of websites mentioning the term. A search on SEO forum may find places you can ask for tips. If you consider contributing to Wikipedia then see Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Jewish cemetery in Prague, Czech Republic

When we visited this old cemetery in Prague in the late 1960's, we were told by a local guide that the reason there were so many graves in such a small space, was that, at some point during its development, the local government would not allow Jews to have any more land. Therefore, hundreds of graves and gravestones from then on are crammed into this small space. Also, he told us that the earliest grave was from the 12th century.

Can't save edits to my draft

Hello, I am currently working on Draft:Romeo Langford (basketball) and have been unable to save edits. Each time i try to save, I enter the "confirmation code" typing in the letter combinations. However, each time I get re taken to the confirmation page with a different code, saying that I put in the wrong code. This just started, as I was able to edit the draft last night fine. @Ajdeluca4: Users usually only have to enter a CAPTCHA when they add external links before their account is autoconfirmed, meaning it's four days old and has made ten edits. Your account will be autoconfirmed in 20 hours so if you have problems, you can just wait with external links until then. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:22, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Sandbox questions

Hello, I am a new Wikipedian and am wondering about the sandbox, I created a sandbox and was seeing how templates and the editor worked on that sandbox. Anyways I was using the micronation country template and just filled it in with a country I just made up to see how the text would render and if I was doing everything right, and then BAM it gets deleted because people said it was a hoax and so they deleted it. I thought I was misusing the sandbox by accident but then I want to the Wikipedia:About the Sandbox page and I didn't see anything I violated, am I correct or not in thinking my sandbox shouldn't have been deleted? Woah, this is not vandalism or a blatant hoax! This is literally just me messing around with templates to see how they work. Ive never vandalized or even edited an actual article because of this stuff thats going on. I literally just got an account yesterday to see how templates and editing work. I understand wikipedia is not a blog service or free web hosting service, however I didn't violate that. Also you can't verify if this information is true or not because micro nations are very common. Based on what the about page has said and everyones comments my article shouldn't have been deleted. Also in the user page guidelines (This is copy and pasted)Experimentation (usually on subpages) Trial pages for templates, unfamiliar or specialist markup (including LaTeX), etc., as a kind of personal sandbox. Pages to test bots and scripts without doing harm.

@YuriGagrin12: If Google finds nothing about an alleged micronation then it isn't even "real" by micronation standards. Your first post said "filled it in with a country I just made up", so you admit you made it up. That's indistinguishable from a hoax. We are not going to say "Users are allowed to make hoaxes if they call them tests". All hoax writers could just claim to be making tests. Please accept that we have rules. I just pointed you to both a policy and a guideline supporting deletion of userspace hoaxes. You brought up Wikipedia:About the Sandbox but that says: "it must not be used for malicious purposes". The linked page Wikipedia:Misuse of the sandbox says: "it may be deleted at any time in accordance with Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, particularly, the criterion governing pure vandalism and hoaxes." User sandboxes can be seen by everybody and there are limits to what we allow in them. I'm assuming good faith but for somebody not making a hoax, you are fighting pretty hard to keep your non-hoax. Codswallop

Meaning of (not stated by Wikipedia)

I am nearly 70 and heard this saying many times in my youth in England. In southern England, and Isle of Wight in particular, a good eating fish to catch was a Cod. The cod was plumper than a normal fish and it's flesh was very sweet. Once caught on a line, it was usually hit on the head with a small mallet to stun or kill it to remove the hook. If one missed the head and hit the stomach area, all the gut, entrails etc would be expelled out of it's rear orifice! Hence the saying, "What a load of Codswallop"!

Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a dictionary, so would not need an article about 'codswallop' unless there were a good deal to say about it: even if that were so, everything in the article would have to be cited to published Reliable Sources. See, however, the entry in Wiktionary, here, which alludes roughly to what you say along with a good many other possibilities.
