Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Oshwah (talk | contribs) at 03:23, 10 November 2020 (→‎Warner Media and more: Add). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Indefinite template protection: High-risk template – Widely substituted template. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 16:37, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – This template is not used widely enough to be considered a high-risk template. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:22, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is because from searching for the beginning of the text in the template Hello. Some of your recent genre changes, the search results only bring up 61 results. Some of which are not relevant either. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:27, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dreamy Jazz - I'd possibly consider it "high risk" due to the fact that Twinkle and RedWarn both use this warning if users select the right setting. I can tell you that I've had to go and protect the warning templates that ClueBot NG and Twinkle references and uses due to the fact that a vandal or LTA user learned this, and changed the warning templates to instead leave threats and uncivil messages instead. It was a very long process for me to go back and clean up each "warning" that was left after the user changed them. Just giving a food for thought here. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:12, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected indefinitely. With due respect to Dreamy Jazz, WP:HRT gives as a reason to protect: It is substituted extremely frequently by multiple users on an ongoing basis (for example, templates used to warn users about inappropriate editing. Comparatively, the bar for permanent semi-protection of templates is also pretty low---about 200 transclusions---and while we don't have that data since it's substituted, I think we can assume that bar is cleared given its use in Twinkle and RedWarn. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Wario-Man (talk) 17:00, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:14, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:16, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended protection: Persistent Disruptive Editing. Prolix 💬 17:14, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. I've confirmed and checkuser-blocked all three accounts. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:34, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended-confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing by auto-confirmed users. Page is currently semi-protected. Johnj1995 (talk) 18:36, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked: AaronAdamKhan007 (talk · contribs) blocked by Oshwah. Wug·a·po·des 02:47, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
User(s) blocked. I confirmed that the user was engaging in block evasion after their previous account was blocked. Both accounts are now checkuser-blocked. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:49, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Constant edit-warring and disruptive editing. User not responding to discussion requests, deletes warnings. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 18:37, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:02, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:36, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistant IP vandalism. WriterArtistDC (talk) 20:26, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. The most recent /64 was blocked by Materialscientist which should prevent much more disruption. I p-blocked 2003:C0:700:0:0:0:0:0/42 from the talk page for 3 months since that's the range disrupting the page over the last month. Hopefully the combo is enough to stop this without having to protect the talk page again. Wug·a·po·des 02:29, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This page has been getting vandalized by both IP users and registered users in the past few days. See the revision history, there have been quite a few reverts and rollbacks recently. Paul Vaurie (talk) 20:48, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:20, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – If you look at pretty much most of the past edits of the page, most of them have been reverted. This has been a constant. Andrew nyr (talk, contribs) 21:31, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:20, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Warner Media and more

A few days of semi-protection: IP editor(s?) causing problems. Common thread: Apparent anger at a particular actor being asked/forced to resign from a particular movie franchise. Possible alternative to semi-protection: 1) Block IP ranges (/64 and /24) from editing these pages for a few days. 2) Edit filter which triggers just on these pages when edited by non-autoconfirmed editors if word "John" or variants of it is used in the edit or edit summary. User(s) blocked. I've range-blocked 2001:8003:F48B:6C00::/64 for their disruption toward these articles. If I missed any IPs or ranges, please let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:22, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some short term protection: Persistent disruption by an IP who refuse to first discuss their unilateral changes on the talk page.--Aréat (talk) 02:32, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. IP is discussing with you on talk and since it's just you two I'd in the dispute I'd probably partial-block from the article instead of full protecting. Wug·a·po·des 02:40, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Repeated disruptive changes to the year in which the film is set; has been discussed at article's Talk page. DonIago (talk) 02:34, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Creation Protection: Despite a February 2020 AfD that resulted in a redirect, the page has been persistently and disruptively re-created numerous times by registered users and IPs without consensus. KidAd talk 02:46, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. KidAd talk 02:51, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite template protection: High-risk template – widely substituted. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 02:56, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reduction in protection level: from extended confirmed protection to semi-protection. The talk page is rather quiet and there has not been much issues. The protecting administrator is Yamaguchi先生, looking to add statistics from "The Trade of the Gulf of Aden Ports of Africa in the Nineteeth and Early Twentieth Centuries" by Richard Pankhurst to the Berbera page, is in need of new images as well - very text heavy WanderingGeeljire (talk) 16:53, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

The title is misleading - there have been none in Wales. The page mentions N Wales Police sending reinforcements, and says that there were anti-fascist gatherings in Cardiff to protest expected events that did not happen and 'some far-right demonstrators outside the Senedd, though no conflict materialised' So no riots in Wales. I would like to request that... (Your edit request here) . 27.109.114.60 (talk) 23:10, 9 August 2024 (UTC) Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.[reply]
