Deleting Helter[edit]

Thanks for your effort in identifying useless articles that had better be deleted. It is appreciated. You might, however, want to read Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, which explain the standard ways of attracting administrator attention for such cases. Wikipedia:Deletion policy will also be a good read. Henning Makholm 12:58, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hollyoaks[edit]

Hello. Just thought I'd contact you as you seem to be one of the main editors of the Hollyoaks article. I recently wrote on the Hollyoaks Talk Page regarding the development of the article, I was wondering if you have any thoughts on it? Ben 01:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As for your proposal for the Hollyoaks page, I really like what you've done on the Coronation Street page, and that'd be good to trandform Hollyoaks as well. I'm thinking that if we were to go ahead with this, every character would get their own page, so it wasn't just a long list of characters, and, like on Coronation Street, there is instead a history of the page. I think the only problems we'd encounter would be encouraging new editors to edit on individual character pages instead of the main page, and also getting facts straight for the history of Hollyoaks. But I'd be happy to support a re-vamping of the page, because I totally agree with what you're saying. Redl@nds597198 01:46, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great! We do not necessarily need to move to individual pages, Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale all have a comprehensive character list in its own article, most of the Hollyoaks character information could easily be moved to a similar article and remain 'as-is'. If you read WP:FICTION it states: 'Wikipedia articles on works of fiction should contain real-world context and sourced analysis, offering detail on a work's achievements, impact or historical significance, not solely a summary of that work's plot.' That is what we really need for Hollyoaks; context, analysis and impact. The biggest problem we may encounter is sourcing information from the early days of the programme, since even the Channel 4 Hollyoaks website seems to forget ths show's history. Any ideas? Ben 11:11, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I can see what you're saying, I can see it happening... But, yes, I also agree with you in that it would be difficult to source information regarding the history of the show. And no, I'm sorry, I don't have any bright ideas - I just did a quick Google search, and even that reveals nothing. I just don't think it's possible to source that old info, it just doesn't seem to be anywhere. So either the info goes unsourced, or we come up with some brilliant scheme - which at the moment isn't looking too likely - if we're going to go ahead with this. Redl@nds597198 12:08, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do some rooting around and get back to you! Ben 12:11, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right then, I'll get back to you as well, we'll have to see what we can dig up! Redl@nds597198 12:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've been off trying to dig up any relevant information on the net, and I've reached the conclusion that there's close to absolutely nothing out there to source from. I did however, find an old news article on the Hollyoaks website (dated April 2002) that talks about an 'Official Companion' book that recounts seven years of Hollyoaks - 1995 up to 2002. I think that's the closest we're going to get, but I don't know where this book is going to come from... Did you have any luck? Redl@nds597198 15:24, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've had no luck. I looked at the 'Hollyoaks Companion' book yesterday on Amazon (I think) I guess it could be a useful investment, but it seemed more like a 'fun' book than useful content. It's a shame that there are minimal resources. Hmph! Ben 17:40, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly have no idea what's left to do... But it does seem a pity to abandon the whole idea. Redl@nds597198 05:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure that the Pi record you added to the October 3 article fails to rank high overall among the global events featured in days of the year articles. Thoughts? Rklawton 04:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe... Possibly... Probably.
You can go ahead and remove it. Thanks, mate. Redl@nds597198 04:29, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Thanks for understanding. Rklawton 04:34, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Members of the Riksdag[edit]

Is the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sweden/Members of the Riksdag for present members only or for both past and present? Thanks, 97198 03:45, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is for the present members, those listed here: List of members of the Riksdag, 2006-2010. I am currently working to bring List of members of the Riksdag, 2002-2006 (the preceding term) up to featured list status, so I'm not working with Wikipedia:WikiProject Sweden/Members of the Riksdag right now. I'm soon done with 2002-06, though, so I'll get back to the current MPs then. I've noticed your contributions btw, I'm glad to get some help! Thank you. Cleanup-tense[edit]

Be aware I've reverted you -- articles may use "color" more often... but that isn't good enough reason to change all instances of colour to color. The template was started using British English, so you'll need to provide some compelling reason why it should use AmE. Matthew 01:00, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't get me wrong, I prefer to use Australian and British English instead of American, but national varieties of spelling belong on articles of a topic of that nationilty (as stated at WP:MOS). An excerpt from the guidelines about variations of English: "Consistency within articles : Each article consistently uses the same variety of English throughout; for example, center and centre are not used in the same article." Considering this, suppose two tags end up on one article: one saying "encyclopedia", the other saying "encyclopaedia", which would appear inconsistent and contradictory. •97198 talk 01:12, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Non-uniformity is just something we have to put up with on Wikipedia, but I feel quite strongly on this as I don't believe the spelling should be changed. Matthew 01:15, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm not really that bothered, I was just trying to help out. :) •97198 talk 01:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, I guess I jumped the gun a bit and was a bit to stern with my comment. Sorry about that. Matthew 01:18, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why'd you change the image?

The profile-image of JP is more similiar to the other Hollyoaks characters articles.--DrBat 23:31, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the image because the previous one (well current, I see it's been changed back) is a promotional image on the website, whereas the one I changed it to is a screenshot of the show, which is preferred over a promo image. And no, last time I checked, none of the other characters, except Craig Dean, have promo images, they have screenshots, so I'm not sure what you mean. •97198 talk 00:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The other image is not a screenshot. It's a promotional photo taken from the official website.[1]--DrBat 00:19, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's not promotional - yes, it is taken from the website - it is simply a screenshot published on, or released by, the official website. That doesn't make it any less of a screenshot. •97198 talk 00:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sorry. --DrBat 00:25, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I donno if you watch the show, but it's one of my favorites. =) There's a question that I want to ask you, but I should know whether or not you watch it, specifically the season 2 finale. Cliff smith 16:39, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've watched every episode :) - what did you want to know? •97198 talk 03:14, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think that Kellerman is dead? Cliff smith 18:29, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, a good question... My theory is that he possibly hired those men to kill him, after his failed suicide attempt in the previous episode - or otherwise he hired them to break him out, but they were paid by someone else to kill him instead (??? - just a theory!). But knowing Prison Break, whatever the plan was he probably wouldn't have died, and there'll be some bizarre twist no one was expecting? What are your thoughts? •97198 talk 07:50, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'd like to see Kellerman return for season three, but unless you're right about his "killing" being staged I don't see how he could possibly return. Oh wait! What if the guard in the van was the one who got killed and someone else is just getting Kellerman away from the police? Maybe that's it. Cliff smith 18:20, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's also a major possibility, I suppose I completely skipped that thought since most Prison Break storylines tend not to be so simple! - but I guess we'll have to wait till season 3, as I'm sure there are millions of theories we could come up with! •97198 talk 07:31, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Desperate Housewives[edit]

First of all - you have made some really great edits to the Desperate Housewives articles! Especially the characters articles of which several have been REALLY bad for quite some time!

However - regarding the surnames of the characters, e.g. Bree in the Xiao-Mei article. Given that Bree was still named Van De Kamp during season 2, I'm not sure that it's such a good thing to calling her Bree Hodge, either Bree Van De Kamp och just Bree ought to be the proper naming.

Maybe, as long as it doesn't affect the understanding of the article, we ought to leave the surnames out within the character articles...

What do you think? Pjär80 12:28, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well... either Gabrielle Solis, or - even better, wherever it's possible and doesn't effect the understanding of the articles - Gabrielle, would be the best way to go IMO.

And - just in case you have missed it - Given the minor edit war going on regarding the surnames of the characters, my bet is that Gabrielle Marquez Lang soon will be chaged to either Gabrielle Marquez, Gabrielle Lang of Gabrielle Solis again... Personally I've given up that discussion... :/ Pjär80 12:43, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FL Main page proposal[edit]

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:57, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, 97198, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

In any case, no worries - we'll see what we can see :) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 23:54, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Featured List of the Day Experiment[edit]

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 21:57, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another request[edit]

Hi, Red!

Got a request. When you add someone to the LGB lists, would you also check that person's article and make sure a) there's info about their sexuality in the article, b) the sexuality info is sourced, c) they're in one of the LGBT people cats, and d) the {{LGBTProject}} banner is on their talk page? For instance, you added Oeyvind Rauset to the list, but Rauset's article has none of the above. Many thanks for all your hard work on the lists!!!!! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 16:20, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is *supposed* to be building the "requested" in the template from Wikipedia:Requested articles/Social sciences#Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. But it hasn't updated that section in forever. I'd put it in Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Requested articles manually - that will make it show up in the "to do list". -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 06:14, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Pages[edit]

Hi. When you move pages, such as you did here, please be a little more careful. Now, you'll notice that the archives for that articles' talk page (in the archive box here) are all screwed up. I don't have the time to fix them right now, but you are welcome to do it yourself. - Rjd0060 (talk) 05:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Check the diffs to see how I did it. Jeffpw (talk) 10:54, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I couldn't get back to you last night, but I'm glad Jeffpw has taken care of it. - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This list fulfills these statements, as it is Wikipedia's best work, in terms of it being useful, comprehensive, factually accurate, stable, uncontroversial and well-constructed - Wikipedia's official criteria. Not length, you can have a great article in many ways, without length. Hpfan9374 (talk) 02:46, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
