You might want to salt the article. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't think it needs to be salted just yet, but I'll try to keep an eye on it for any future problems. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 00:48, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Expanded block for 98.165.149.229

Hello. Just wanted to let you know that I expanded your block of 98.165.149.229 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) to one month and protected the talk page due to this editor's continuing racist attacks. Considering this IP has been targeting the same topics for three months, it probably is not dynamic and will ultimately need a very long block. As the original blocking admin, if you feel my actions are inappropriate, you may unprotect/decrease the block as you see fit. Thanks, Kralizec! (talk) 20:27, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Dude I'm trying to make a joke for my friend.

Second opinion?

I'm wondering whether this is vandalism. I did a Google check, which didn't seem to give any positive results, though given the subjects Joey Comeau writes about, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a real book. Looking at contributions, this appears to be the user's only edit, and it was tagged as minor - so I'm not sure what to think. I removed it just to be safe, since it is a BLP page, but it'd be nice to get another opinion on this. --Muna (talk) 12:58, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Your removal looks good to me. It may or may not be vandalism, but it isn't verifiable in any case, so you were right to remove it. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:31, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping an eye on the Beer article. SilkTork *YES! 08:13, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Could you please roll this article back to the revision by Deor? It'd be a bit hard to fix this vandalism string with simple reverts. D: --Muna (talk) 23:17, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Nevermind, it's been fixed. :) --Muna (talk) 00:09, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Block this IP

I honestly suggest that you block this IP. It belongs to a school, so nobody is really going to care about your warnings on vandalization, and most the edits done on this IP would be by complete idiots that have nothing better to do than insert garbage into pages out of sheer boredom. This IP has been blocked before, and its inevitable that somebody is going to vadalize pages using this IP.--64.135.48.140 (talk) 19:54, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Done, thanks for the advice. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 23:50, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Dear Bongwarrior, thanks for blocking User:Partyboyleet indef from editing. It is quite clear that Partyboyleet is a vandalism-only account. Have a nice day! AdjustShift (talk) 03:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Bongwarrior
Can you do me a favour and look in on some edits from this IP address please? ( I notice you’ve blocked it before) I’ve fixed some, and issued some warnings, but I’ve pretty much shot my bolt now, as I’m not Admin, so I can’t block it. I’ve had a look at the edit history; I’m hard pressed to find any constructive edits from here. What do you think? Xyl 54 (talk) 16:51, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I've only blocked for a month, but I have a feeling I'll have to do this again next month. Thanks for letting me know. --Bongwarrior (talk) 23:50, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't doubt that he is real, but there was nothing in the article that suggests that he is notable in any way. This really doesn't look like a suitable topic for a Wikipedia article right now, but maybe you can work on it in your userspace for the time being and try to bring it up to snuff. Happiness and Halloween

First off, thought you might appreciate a talk page comment that doesn't abuse you.

Second, you spend a lot of time at Halloween . . . is that just because it's oft-vandalized or due to an interest in the day? I ask because I have started a discussion thread about getting the Halloween article up to FA status. Your comments and participation are most welcome, if you're so inclined.--otherlleft (talk) 18:16, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Third (adding another one here), for any number of reasons the editor try to prevent this AfD has declined to weigh in. As only three editors have as yet expressed an opinion, would you be willing to provide one as well? I want to know if my argument to keep is sufficient. Thanks again!--otherlleft (talk) 19:17, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

I do appreciate it, thank you. About Halloween, I haven't had any particular interest in it ever since I got too old to trick or treat, sorry. Just trying to keep everything tidy, it should be pretty quiet there now (until next year, at least).
About the AfD, there seems to be a little more activity there now. Your reasoning seems fine to me, but I could really go either way on this one. It's not really necessary (basically just one film, after all), but it's not really hurting anything either, and some may find that level of detail useful. At any rate, this isn't the sort of article I'd be in any hurry to delete. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 09:18, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
The danger of watching a talk page for a reply is that if you've got 500 or so pages you might not see the reply! Thank you for your responses. One of these days I'll have to ask you about the second part of your username . . . I wonder if bong tricks are as dangerous as sword tricks?--otherlleftI can take the heat 13:35, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Banned user wants userpages deleted

Hey. Not really sure what to do here. A blocked user (editing as an IP) wants pages in 'their' userspace deleted and have been marking them with the speedy template for user requested. Because that there's actually no proof that the IP and account are indeed the same person I'm doubting they're going to be deleted and reverted a couple of the IPs edits. The IP left a message on my talk page explaining the situation and I've told them to hold fire until I can clarify what they can do about the userpages. User is User:Nobody of Consequence, IP is User talk:75.3.139.29, discussion is User_talk:Matt.T#Deletion. What do you think? Matt (Talk) 06:19, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

User:The_Parsnip! is also possibly an account of the IPs because they marked a page in that userspace for deletion too. Matt (Talk) 06:22, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, as you noted, there's no way to be sure the IP and the user are the same person, so I wouldn't delete. Besides, most of the pages are user talk pages and talk archives, which usually aren't deleted anyway, even if the deletion was requested by the original user. There's probably no harm in deleting some of the sandboxes though, as long as there's nothing significant in the history. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:37, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Notability on article Simon Malian

I'd suggest that this article definitely doesn't pass the notability guidelines of wikipedia. A quick look through Category:Old Knox Grammarians, which is a valid comparison for notability, would indicate that he isn't even in the same league. Mat (talk) 13:53, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, you can always take it to AfD if you don't think it belongs here. I'm not very familiar with the subject matter, but I didn't see anything there that set off any obvious alarm bells, notability-wise. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 22:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Eddie Steeples

Thank you for taking care of this situation. I happened to see Eddie Steeples on "Last Call" last night and he mentioned the inaccuracy on his page. I took a look and - after I stopped laughing - added some info and a link to show that he has indeed a body of work. I thought it best to at least do this and leave the rest of the inappropriate commentary so an administrator would see it and take appropriate measures. I see this morning you were on the case just a half hour later. Excellent response time!

It is sad to see that some people with whatever axes to grind can misuse wikipedia in this manner. And sadder still that you had to put protection on this page to forestall further misuse. This is not the forum for such behavior. But it is heartening to know people like you are on the ball, doing what you can to maintain the accuracy and fairness that make wikipedia a reliable source of information. This is the sum of its contributions, after all.

Hello

I'm sorry to bother you, but I needed clarification. You recently deleted Dr Hans Buohersmit as A1, and while it was definitely lacking in context, it seemed to meet A7. So I'll know for next time (I'm wary of mistagging articles for speedy deletion), how was my tag a mistagging? Master&Expert (Talk) 09:15, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

You didn't mistag it. Either A7 or A1 is applicable; since the article was just one word, I thought A1 was slightly more appropriate, but either one works just fine. Thanks for helping out, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 09:22, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Ohh, thanks. :) Sorry if I come off as... overbearing. But I'm trying to make sure that I'm tagging articles correctly, so it doesn't come off as overly offensive and confusing to the creators. Thanks for your imput. Master&Expert (Talk) 10:12, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Merry Christmas

Happy holidays! DavidWS (contribs) 19:49, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

I've protected their talk page for the duration of the block you gave them (31 hours). Having looked back through their contributions, the non-vandalistic ones of which don't actually consist of more than formatting or adding or removing wikilinks, and given their response to the block, I'm of the view that upping it to indef may not be a bad idea - what do you reckon? GbT/c 20:10, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't have any real objections. When I was originally blocking, I debated whether to indef block or not. Along with the obvious vandalism, there were enough edits that were either harmless or possible "confused newbie" edits that I wasn't convinced that this was necessarily a vandalism-only account, hence the shorter block. As you noted, their response to being blocked was less than great. I still think a 31 hour block is good enough, but if you think it should be indefinite, I really can't disagree with you and you're welcome to block longer. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 02:25, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

If you've a moment, can you intervene here, and ask this anonymous editor to dial back his language? He's already been warned about his attacks. Thanks. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 04:38, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

It looks like the situation is under control for the moment. I've left a final warning for now, but please let me or another admin know if he does it again. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:55, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Single Purpose Account?

I think this user may be a single purpose account - they have one edit so far, which was quite clearly disruptive. Thoughts? --Muna (talk) 22:54, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

We'll see. Yes, their first and only edit so far was vandalism, but it wasn't anything too terrible. It's possible that it's just a new user who wanted to experiment a little. You may want to leave the user a friendly warning (Template:Uw-test1 or Template:Welcometest, for example), but I don't think it's really necessary in this particular case. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 00:47, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there - this user, who you've blocked, is trying to request unblocking. I'm not prepared to unblock without a bit of on-wiki discussion, and your input, of course. As a result, I was wondering if you had an objection to my unlocking his talkpage for editing? Cheers, Fritzpoll (talk) 10:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't think unblocking is an option. If you'd like to unlock the talk page, there's no real harm in that, but even considering unblocking this user is stretching AGF just a little too far. --Bongwarrior (talk) 10:47, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I'd agree, but in general the automatic locking of talkpages is probably best avoided, if only for appearance's sake Fritzpoll (talk) 11:39, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
In general, you are correct. In this particular case, the user is an obvious sock, the edits in question don't leave much room for interpretation, and I don't think we need to waste the community's time with spurious unblock requests like these: [1], [2], [3]. And why in the world would you disable the autoblock? --Bongwarrior (talk) 20:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Understandable, and blocking was certainly my first inclination, but I think a final warning was appropriate. He pulled a similar stunt with my userpage [4], but I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to stuff like that. No real argument regarding the block though, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 20:54, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

okee dokee. lo siento for the inconvenience. i just think it should be told that oklahoma state university has more national championships than oklahoma, because the article concerning the OSU-OU rivaly is definitely a little biased toward OU... if it states that OU is on the winning side of the most "lopsided" rivalry in college football history, make it clear that OSU still has OU's number in national championships. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zjhoe (talkcontribs) 23:46, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. I had the above editor's Talk page watchlisted from leaving him a message at the end of last month, and I noticed your block on my watchlist this afternoon. I was curious to see why the user had been blocked, but, after looking through the user's contributions, I'm somewhat troubled by your action. Granted, the user called you an asshole after a receiving 4-level warning, but what troubles me is that I can't see any reason why he should have been given such a strident warning in the first place. Is there something I'm missing in his deleted contribs, or was that in reference to the bumbling which occured during his apparent first trip to AIV? This person seems to be developing into a fairly helpful contributor (albeit with an odd set of interests -- apparently focusing on children's cartoons and spree killings -- but to each his own); I'm not sure what purpose this block is serving. Please get back to me on this. I'm curious to know what I'm missing here. --Dynaflow babble 20:50, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
It's the deleted contributions. He/she knowingly participated in creating a hoax/vandal article, The Drew Pickles Show, which drew the level-4 warning from me. The user then reposted an identical article and a similar article in their userspace, which finally convinced me to block. The "asshole" thing didn't even enter into the equation—I've heard 'em all, and I usually don't even warn for that sort of thing, let alone block. You are correct that most of this user's other contributions have been fine, but there have been a few other bumps in the road prior to this. I hope I have adequately addressed your concerns regarding this, but please let me know if you still have questions, or if you still think the block was too severe. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:47, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

About redirects...

Hi there! Looks like I need a lesson in redirection policy then, right? [5] IMHO it's a bad thing to just redirect lots of pages without merging the content to the targets. For the majority of Wikipedia users it will be the same as page-blanking - the content is gone and they don't know how to find it, if they even look for it. This very special users is doing this for months and he knows that it's highly controversial. He's been told and hes been warned. What to do then? --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 18:55, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

You're right that it's a bad thing, but they weren't being redirected just for the hell of it–the user provided his reasoning in their edit summaries, most of the articles were completely unsourced, and most of them did end up as redirects anyway after an AfD discussion. I feel your pain, but blocking would be the wrong call in this situation, and I don't think the templated warnings helped. If you like, I can politely ask them to discuss any future redirects first, out of respect to their fellow editors. If you don't think that's sufficient, maybe a thread on WP:ANI is the way to go. Sorry I can't be more help than that, but I don't think anything further is required at this point. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 19:47, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
I've started a thread at ANI but the answer is even worse than yours. In their eyes it's ok to blank pages. Wow, ok then. I guess that's the nail of my coffin. This whole project is only a shadow of its former self and much too disturbing for me to stay... --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 19:56, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

See my comment on your talk page. The last few that I noticed and reverted were wildly inaccurate. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Each of the articles had multiple gross problems. Please look at each of them for at least the use of weasel words. In Venessa, to start: "She is mostly known" - whom is she mostly known by. Each of the articles I assessed had weasel problems. Each of them had original research and advertising. It would take me hours to detail every single problem I found with them. Nevertheless, the assessment category I selected for each of them were accurate. They are completely unencyclopedic and were written as fan sites and even resorting to advertising (e.g., "her debut album is tentatively set to be released in the summer of 2009"). The whole tone of each of them is fan site and promotion. They need to be rewritten to conform to "no original research", use appropriate style (i.e., non-assay, no weasel words), no advertising, use citations, and the subject needs to be notable. If these problems aren't flagged nobody will become aware of them and make the changes.Pknkly (talk) 07:10, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
I disagree with that assessment, particularly regarding the tone of the articles, and I find it ludicrous that the notability of the subjects is being called into question. I'm not saying any of those articles are perfect, but a few accurate cleanup templates will do a lot more good than a dozen or so incorrect ones. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:24, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
I understand your point about a few being better than a dozen. The article page looked bad to me too with all those assessment tabs - even if they deserved them from my viewpoint. The subjective assessment tabs (fansite, notability, and unencyclopedic) I can put off in favor of limiting the number of assessment tabs. So, can we agree to set only three tabs - weasel words, advertising, and original research? From my perspective those are the biggest. Pknkly (talk) 08:19, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
That's better, but I still don't think even those three are necessary. There doesn't seems to be any advertising or original research in the Hudgens article, and the one weaselly statement ("mostly known for her role as Gabriella Montez") is probably accurate, and it has a source that backs it up. --Bongwarrior (talk) 20:38, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Please see the April 6th edit summary for Swarm Alive at the Chicago Hot Dog article. I think this editor has more than cucumbers on his mind. The thing about cursing in the edit summary is that it is much more visible and lasting. An intentional plan, I believe.--Buster7 (talk) 02:15, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Why was my edit reverted? Hooray4battletoads (talk) 07:14, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I could tell you, but I like it when people figure things out for themselves. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:15, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
That's odd, I appear to be totally clueless. Hooray4battletoads (talk) 07:20, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
You said it, not me. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:20, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
what's up with Battletoads Wii? there's even a trailer of it on youtube. how is this fake? Hooray4battletoads (talk) 07:27, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
It has to be fake. Video game technology is about five years away from being able to handle a game that awesome. A Wii would probably just explode. Quite exciting, this computer magic. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:36, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

For giving my talk page semi-protection from that, ahem, joker. Now I don't constantly have a new messages bar.--Res2216firestar 07:54, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome, glad to help. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:56, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

antivandal edits, content disputes

You do a lot of antivandal reverts. How do you handle things that start heading towards an edit war (i.e., that aren't clear enough to be purely antivandal edits)? I seem to find a lot of pages that nobody else cares about, and so I'm torn between leaving them 'broken', an edit war, or a lengthy 3O/RFC, and sometimes even those sit stale. It's easier when there's an active WikiProject looking over the subject :-/ tedder (talk) 07:40, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

That can be a tough situation, especially on some of the more obscure articles. Can you clarify what type of edits you're talking about? Are the articles BLPs, or no? Sometimes, if the edits aren't too nettlesome, the best course of action is to just wait for someone else to come along and revert it. If it is an ongoing problem, you can also consider requesting protection. And of course, try to talk to the other editor. If it's someone new, they may not be aware that they're causing any problems. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:10, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it was sort of a general situation. Usually the articles aren't BLP, so "wait and see" is probably a good approach. It seems I have the most trouble when the issue is COI- whether it's a student at a school, or someone trying to write an article for their company, or so on. But again, I'm just interested in the general concept of how you handle it, since you do so much antivandal work. (This may sound odd- I'm not fishing for anything, just trying to see if I'm missing any options, handling things correctly, etc.) tedder (talk) 05:49, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

The person who made the changes obviously hadn't read what they were changing properly. They substituted the width for the height. Amandajm (talk) 11:05, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Ah, thanks. They didn't seem right, but I wasn't really sure. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk)
