The Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Office of Management and Budget and used by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purpose only, is an area consisting of three counties in Upstate South Carolina, anchored mainly by the city of Greenville as well as the smaller cities of Mauldin and Anderson. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 824,112.[1]

Demographics[edit]

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 559,940 people, 217,152 households, and 149,322 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 79.31% White, 17.01% African American, 0.20% Native American, 1.19% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.22% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.13% of the population.

The median income for a household in the MSA was $37,099, and the median income for a family was $44,859. Males had a median income of $33,170 versus $23,439 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $18,425.

Metropolitan Statistical Area[edit]

The Greenville–SpartanburgAnderson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is made up of eight counties in Upstate South Carolina. The statistical area includes three metropolitan areas and three micropolitan areas. As of the 2000 Census, the MSA had a population of 1,128,104 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 1,264,930).[4]
