Revision as of 19:30, 11 October 2013

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 19:30, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism and addition of unsourced/biased claims. ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 19:27, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Protection expired, vandalism resumed. JNW (talk) 19:04, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. —Darkwind (talk) 19:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Another target of the blocked sock-heavy TheREALCableGuy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Nate (chatter) 19:01, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. —Darkwind (talk) 19:06, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – More than a month. --    L o g  X   18:54, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 2 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Due to the current-events nature of the topic, I think the principle of "anyone can edit" trumps the small annoyance of accepting new revisions. —Darkwind (talk) 19:04, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP user is constantly manipulating content without an explanation nor sources. – Recollected 18:43, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. Mark Arsten (talk) 18:48, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 16:20, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes level 2: Persistent edits of various types clearly made both against policy and without discussion by both anonymous and registered users. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 14:58, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. PC level 2 is not approved by the community for use at this time, but the only registered questionable edits on the first page of the history are from non-confirmed users anyway. —Darkwind (talk) 19:10, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see several questionable edits by registered users (in the last 50 revisions - I'm assuming this is what you're referring to). Several other pages are currently level 2-protected per WP:IAR. Also, could you answer my question above? Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 19:13, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm editing by section to prevent edit conflicts, so it sometimes takes a while to see your comments. The only registered editors who were reverted in the last 50 revs were Mockimi125 (t c) who is not autoconfirmed and would thus be caught in PC-1, TheUpdates (t c) whom you reverted after attempting discussion on the talk page (so PC wouldn't have helped anyway), and Tristan.andrade.136 (t c) who is the only one that would have needed PC-2 to prevent. Since that's only one problematic edit that would have been visible in those ~40 days (had PC-1 been applied the whole time), I don't see that as sufficient justification to override the community consensus against PC-2. —Darkwind (talk) 19:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Vandalism. Nationalist sentiment. Editors repeatedly do not abide by Wikipedia standards and convention. This happens on a regular basis to most country pages. --Yellowfiver (talk) 11:39, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, Apologies if I've missed something, but I don't see much vandalism recently. Mark Arsten (talk) 13:56, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Daily IP vandalism always by same editor. Also at Polish Armed Forces semi-protection should be extended. noclador (talk) 06:54, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 10 days , after which the page will be automatically unprotected. KrakatoaKatie 07:01, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Polish Armed Forces hasn't expired yet. We don't extend protection preemptively. KrakatoaKatie 07:01, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotect. After nearly four years of protection, there is no reason to think that the problematic edits (which don't appear to have been all that problematic to begin with) will return. 173.62.242.128 (talk) 17:37, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Pending-changes protected Mark Arsten (talk) 18:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reduction to semi or unprotection. User blocked, but [[Special:Contributions/Musicexpert1970|a potential target of sockpuppetry. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 00:40, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you asked the protecting admin, User:Beeblebrox to consider unprotecting early? Mark Arsten (talk) 16:47, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. The protection was to stop edit warring. By definition an edit war includes a minimum of two users, and recent discussion on the talk page has not even really addressed the actual content dispute underlying the edit war. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:39, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
