The Campeonato Baiano is the football league of the state of Bahia, Brazil. The championship has been played since 1905 without interruption.
The first stage of the league is named Taça Tabocas e Guararapes, and the second stage is named Taça Confederação do Equador.
Format
The teams are divided in two groups of six teams.
First stage:
- Double round-robin, in which all teams from one group play home-and-away games against all teams of the other group.
- Home-and-away playoffs with the top 4 teams of each group (1st place x 4th place, 2nd place x 3rd place).
Second stage:
- Double round-robin, in which all teams from one group play home-and-away games against all teams within the group.
- Home-and-away playoffs with the top 4 teams of each group (1st place x 4th place, 2nd place x 3rd place).
Third stage (if necessary):
- Home-and-away playoff with the winners of the first and second stages.
If a team wins both stages (first and second) it is crowned the champion. If not, the third stage is disputed, and the winner is the champion.
