An alternate theory

I undid your deletion of Bird article about "an alternate theory". It referenced, but sounds somewhat suspicious. Could you please explain why you deleted it? Curious:) TestPilot 01:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx for explanation! You have totally convinced me. It is actually a good idea to respond on the talk page of the guy, but sure it is up to you. As to "how" - simply edit yr talk page. Ironically, today I read another story of new huge feathered dinosaur discovered in China. You might find it interesting - http://sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=25D2F86A-E7F2-99DF-3873E5C5CA34D5E8&chanID=sa003 . Regards, TestPilot 01:50, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. When making a major change like that while being bold is good it is also good to discuss the change and check with other users. I agree that the dinosaurs are the ancestors of birds, but enough scientists disagree that we have to at least mention dissent. We don't give it equal weight and we can further modify the paragraph, but please come and join a discussion at Talk:Bird#Alternative theories and Alan Feduccia et al. Cheers. Sabine's Sunbird talk 02:31, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, haven't got yr question first time. Yes, the best way to respond to comments on yr talk page is to leave your comment on the talk page of the guy who wrote to you. The reason behind it - lot of guys have hundreds Wikipedia edits every day - and it would be unfair to expect them to check yours talk page regularly to understand if you replied to their question or not. On the other hand - some ppl do reply on their talk page. In that case they keep conversation clean and neat for 3d party readers - but they risk to be unheard by whoever they try to communicate to. I have never came across any formal policy or manual of style regarding matter - but would not be very surprised if one exist out there. Regards, TestPilot 03:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ZaneGrey TontoBasin.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ZaneGrey TontoBasin.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

triceratops

I love the triceratop dinosaurs.

I am often disappointed that most museums display their skulls with the back to the wall. This makes it impossible to see that the skull to first-vertebra joint was a perfect socket and ball joint. The base of the skull has a perfect hemispherical socket for the first-vertebra to sit in.

I spent decades looking at them before I saw the back of one. All that time I assumed but did not *know* that they would be able to quickly turn their heads. One glance and it is obvious that my assumption was correct.

Nick Beeson (talk) 23:31, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick!
I like Triceratops too. Do you know of the other horned dinosaurs like Styracosaurus, Protoceratops, and the many other Ceratopsians? Firsfron of Ronchester 03:12, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Wheelset (disambiguation), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Irish Mist (disambiguation)

I have proposed the deletion of this disambiguation page. It no longer seemed necessary as most internal links point to the drink article (thanks for creating that, by the way), and that article has a hatnote to the book article. Weigh in if you see any issues.--Kubigula (talk) 22:27, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I notice that the reference on the Michigan Court System page that you created claims to use public domain content from Michigan.gov. The Terms of Use Policy at Michigan.gov says that its work is copyrighted under terms incompatible with GFDL. Work of the U.S. FEDERAL Government is in the public domain. Don't assume public domain on state and local government publications. It is not good practice to copy primary sources anyway. Please clean this up. Thank you. • Gene93k (talk) 18:07, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Fortune and Fate

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fortune and Fate, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

no indication of how this book is notable

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. License tagging for File:FourtuneAndFateCover.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:FourtuneAndFateCover.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can't use wikipedia as a source because wikipedia articles change every day. The information you cite in one article may disappear tomorrow and never come back. Besides, if Wikipedia only cited itself, it could say anything at all. Also, don't post comments on other people's user pages, but on their user discussion pages. Serendipodous 17:49, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:AnimalsRelativeNumbers.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILYsock(TALK) 23:58, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Minor mistake in image

Hi there. Thank you for uploading File:AnimalsRelativeNumbers.png. I noticed that Mollusca is mispelled in the legend. Also, your edit of the image appears to have introduced a strange shadded area and small black dot on the pie chart. Is there any chance you could edit the original file to fix this? Cheers, mgiganteus1 (talk) 03:33, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I too noticed the shaded area (part of the large arthropod segment) and assumed that it might represent the non-insect arthropods, illustrating how numerous insects are even within their own phylum, but that was just a guess. What does it represent, or is it just a blemish?CharlesHBennett (talk) 23:00, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Eugnathostomata, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Teleostomi. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 17:55, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:NOTTRUTH and WP:ATTRIBUTE before you attempt to delete mention of notable attributed viewpoints, no matter their truth. The matter has been discussed on the talk page. Consensus is unanimous that the major proponent of the minority theory should be cited in the article. Beware of violating WP:3RR Be aware that one can be sanctioned for edit warring even without strictly violating the three revert rule. μηδείς (talk) 02:11, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

The article Fractal fraction has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Never heard of it. The example doesn't converge.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Nomination of Fractal fraction for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Fractal fraction is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fractal fraction until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Sławomir Biały (talk) 11:51, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nick, I think its great that you attempted to explain the hoax, etc. Unfortunately, content like this gets deleted all the time because its more original research than anything else. The "Wau" video is amusing and clearly a hoax and people will look for a place to verify that, and wikipedia won't help them. I would like to publish your article as is or modified on my blog [1] if you are ok with that. See, e.g, [2], a reprint that gets a fair number of hits today. You are welcome to flesh it out without wikipedia's WP:OR concerns too. Cheers.--Milowenthasspoken 17:16, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Body Plan

I reverted your edit to Body plan because the concept applies to all organisms, not just animals. Google "body plan plants" or "body plan fungi". -- Donald Albury 11:07, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Donald: I am aware that plants and fungus have "body" plans. But "plant", "plants", "fungus", and "fungi" do not appear in the Body plan article, so the layperson has no way of knowing that this term and article applies to those organisms. I made the change only after carefully reading the article. I found only one instance of one word (fern) not related to animals. I made the change precisely because the article does not speak at all about any organism but animals as having body plans. This article is entirely and only about animal body plans. In addition the Wikipedia article body also speaks only of animals, which means that there is absolutely no way for most readers to learn from these articles that plants and fungus can have a body. Nick Beeson (talk) 14:42, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The second sentence of the article reads, "One of the key issues of developmental biology is the evolution of body plans as different as those of a starfish, a fern, or a mammal, from a common biological heritage, and in particular how radical changes in body plans have occurred over geological time." If you feel that the article should only be about body plans in Animalia, you should edit that sentence, as well. -- Donald Albury 23:52, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ficus vasta, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fig (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Sears

I am really against Sears being added to Frandor's page. But, if you're going to do it, it has to be by the standards we use on wiki. You sentence construction reads as a strange personal opinion and sloppily. Unless you can come up with some factual way to describe it and its importance to Frandor, I suggest leaving it out. --Criticalthinker (talk) 06:48, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Basecamp (company), and it appears to include material copied directly from https://readtiger.com/wkp/en/37signals.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Hello. I appreciated your efforts to update this information, but pages are not retitled by copying & pasting their contents. We refer to this as a "cut and paste" move, and it is undesirable for a number of reasons, including that it breaks the attribution history of the article, which we need for copyright reasons. I have repaired this one, but in the future please instead move the article. See Help:Move for how this is done. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:35, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. :) There are a couple of ways you can do this - which is correct depends a lot on individual preference. You can respond here, on your talk page, or you can respond on mine. Both are equally valid. In the 'old days', when you responded on your own talk page, I would only know if I checked back, unless you left a template - {{talkback}} - on my talk page to tell me you had answered. These days, you can still use {{talkback}} if you want, but you can also "ping" me by wikilinking my username - like so: [[User:Moonriddengirl]]. This generates a little red number next to my username in the top right of the screen, and when I click on that number I will see exactly where I've been pinged. I'll demonstrate by pinging you at my page, even though I'm responding here.
Help:Introduction to talk pages might be useful reading. :)
As an additional, unasked tip - you mention that you've had trouble finding the page about moving pages. Our search engine defaults to article space when it searches unless you tell it otherwise. There are a couple of ways to do this, described at Help:Searching. Quick and easy, you can just click on the magnifying glass to get to an intermediate level search which currently offers you four options - articles (aka "content pages"), multimedia, everything and advanced. If you get to advanced, you get to a much more customizable page - so you can click, for example, "Wikipedia" and "Help" only to find policies and assistance pages.
You can also take the "stab in the dark" approach - just put into the standard search bar "Help:" before whatever term you're looking for, and you might get lucky. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:12, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Castro (singer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 01:39, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

reddogsix please do delete it. I do not know how to delete a page. I made that page because I know nothing about that topic. Read the talk page at the article. I found it at Castro which for many years was a disambiguation page, and was changed to that singer about a year ago. I reverted what I considered vandalism at the Castro page, and moved the contents to the page you want to delete. Nick Beeson (talk) 01:58, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
