Replaceable fair use File:VietJet Air International Destionations June.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:VietJet Air International Destionations June.gif. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:57, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My useful contributions to the page Singapore Changi Airport certainly outweighs the bad points of copying information from documents and press releases. Doraemon25 (talk) 02:54, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I disagree. It is mandatory that you adhere to the policy on copyright; there is no equation involved. Kuru (talk) 02:58, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. Request reason:

Re-attempt to be unblocked as stated above - I have read through the Wikipedia:Non-free content article briefly and I have understood the Wikipedia policy of using non-free content and will adhere to the rules. Doraemon25 (talk) 9:18 am, Yesterday (UTC+0)

Decline reason:

Per Origamite, below. I can claim to understand anything I like - quantum physics, Swahili grammar, the American legal system, brain surgery - but that doesn't mean I actually have any level of understanding or expertise in those fields. Please post an unblcok appeal which explains in your own words how copyright and non-free content work on Wikipedia.
I should also add that I find your initial unblock request, above, profoundly concerning: no addition adds value which would outweigh the legal requirements of copyright on Wikipedia. Yunshui  08:51, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Could you please restate the rules in your own words? I'd like to make sure that you understand them. Origamite 15:05, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

@Origamite: As stated above, I will state the rules for using non-free content (text) in Wikipedia. Unacceptable use of text from copyright sources includes using part of the text from a copyrighted source, long text being copied from the source and using copyrighted text for making audio files may result in legal issues. However, quotations of the copyrighted text can be used to briefly describe an issue, a person's point of view and/or idea. A citation is then needed after quoting and any editing to the quoted portions must be clearly marked out. Doraemon25 (talk) 09:46, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Doraemon25's post shows that they now understand copyright and how it applies to Wikipedia. Any violations will result in an immediate re-block. Diannaa (talk) 19:47, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Doraemon25. I have declined your article for creation, Changi Rewards. The content is too closely copied from the source website, http://www.changirewards.com/faq.html (40% of the content was the same). Even if you thoroughly re-wrote the article using your own words, the submission would be declined, as the subject is not notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Thai Lion Air destinations, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Hello Doraemon25. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Thai Lion Air destinations".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Thai Lion Air destinations}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Proposed deletion of Portstation MRT Station

[edit]

The article Portstation MRT Station has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

not yet built: estimated date of completion,2025, 10 years ahead. Too soon for an article

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Cantonment MRT Station requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Thanks for uploading File:Project Jewel.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited JC International Airlines, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sihanoukville (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your draft article, Draft:Petalclouds

[edit]

Hello, Doraemon25. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Petalclouds".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. » Shadowowl | talk 17:13, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Singapore Airlines fleet

[edit]

G'day from Oz; first, thanks for updating the fleet numbers at Singapore Airlines fleet. Please be aware that the ref named "CAAS" is used twice, so your removal of the <ref name="CAAS"> created a problem that a Bot "fixed" by re-adding the old ref linking to the April register. I have edited the list to get rid of it (see the edit), but I just wanted to draw your attention to this because I remember making a very similar edit to fix the same issue earlier this year. Request reason:

Unacceptable use of text from copyright sources includes using part of the text from a copyrighted source, long text being copied from the source and using copyrighted text for making audio files may result in legal issues. However, quotations of the copyrighted text can be used to briefly describe an issue, a person's point of view and/or idea. A citation is then needed after quoting and any editing to the quoted portions must be clearly marked out. Doraemon25 (talk) 15:31, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, a new and much clearer response is needed. This has been going on since 2014, and to be unblocked again you'll need to demonstrate very clearly that you understand exactly why you have been blocked, and exactly how you would avoid creating any further problems if the block were to be lifted. The questions above should help you to do that. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:13, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

More than six months have lapsed since my unblock request for reviewed. I am looking to have the block lifted with the my explanation of copyright below. Copyright gives the original author ownership of his/her work. In the digital age, various forms of materials ranging from texts to photos and videos are available online for all to access. However, that does not mean that everyone should use them freely as such materials may be copyright-protected unless otherwise stated. If a third party reproduces or adapts the work without consent from the copyright owner, the person is liable for copyright infringement. Wikipedia is available to the wide range of internet users to access the encyclopedia for information. On top of that, it is also run by the online community to constantly refresh and update articles. As such, copyrighted content will ‘hurt’ its credibility. Hence, using of copyrighted content should be kept to a bare minimum or even prevented. Paraphrasing and summarising the contents accordingly is preferred alongside the use of quotation marks and citations to help further support your contributions to the article. Such actions will help make Wikipedia a better place for all users. Doraemon25 (talk) 02:53, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

That started really well - your definition of copyright was good - but then fell down when it became clear that you do not understand how copyright applies to Wikipedia. We are not concerned with how copyright can "hurt Wikipedia's credibility", and paraphrasing is not preferred at all; in fact it is actively discouraged. You haven't touched on Wikipedia's licences or on relevant copyright law. I'm sorry, but this request shows that you would still be a risk to the project if we allowed you to return to editing. Noted on the decline reason. Please see my edited request touching on the licences and laws.

For Wikipedia contributors, text found elsewhere can be imported if it is compatible with the CC BY-SA licence or dual-licensed with the GFDL. As much as possible, materials licensed under CC BY-SA and GFDL or works falling under the public domain are preferred over the use of copyrighted materials and non-free content. Circumstances on when non-free content can be used on Wikipedia articles, though kept to a minimum or avoided completely, only if the 10 criteria under the 'Policy' section of Wikipedia:Non-free content has been met. If the non-free content can replaced with a free version or the subject can be properly explained without the use of non-free content, it should be done so wherever possible. With that being said, any content should be properly attributed to its original source and/or author.

With Wikipedia being based in the U.S., it is governed under the local copyright law. As a global project, what is classified as a free content in one country may not apply to the others. Contributors need to keep in mind on respecting other countries' copyright law whilst ensuring it is free of any copyright in the U.S. Users will then make their own judgement should they decide to use such content outside of the States.

Request reason:

This is on top of my previous unblock request. It cannot be safely said that everything can be found on the public domain. Realistically, there are times, though with certain restrictions that non-free media is used on Wikipedia articles to better support the point that is being discussed. This needs to be clearly mentioned on the non-free media's description page, which comprises of two key elements. One of it is the copyright licence template that the original content belongs to and it needs ti comply with U.S. laws. The other is the rationale behind why the non-free media is used must be clearly addressed and it needs to fulfil the ten criteria under the 'Policy' section of Wikipedia:Non-free content. Request reason:

I have fully understood with the reasons that got me blocked from Wikipedia, and the steps that I need to take to prevent future occurrences from happening once I am unblocked. As mentioned before, copyright gives the original author ownership of his/her work. If a third party reproduces or adapts the work without consent from the copyright owner, the person is liable for copyright infringement. Hence, when creating or editing articles, such practices such be completely avoided. Making edits in my own words from a neutral perspective, with reliable sources backing it up should be the way to go. As per the principles and guidelines mentioned in Wikipedia:Simplified ruleset, editing can be fun for all but certain rules are meant to be followed to ensure no one's individual copyright is violated. Request reason:

I spent time going through the violations that I have committed. Of which, most of the points have been covered in the past unblock requests made in the past one year. In essence, it is important to acknowledge the ideas of other authors. Using their work, and even so word for word, is plagiarism and such actions are not tolerated in Wikipedia or the web community. I will need to provide citations, to add credibility to the edits that have been made. This will allow Wikipedia readers and users alike to explore further into the sources I took reference from. By citing the original authors, it not only gives them the respect they deserve but will make their work more accessible to all, building everyone's discovery. I hope the administrators will review my unblock request having understood of my shortcomings and would uphold the strong standards set out for all in the Wikipedia community. • Doraemon25, I think I may have removed your talk page from my watch-list in disappointment when you posted your unblock request of 15:31, 1 March 2019. As Yamla pointed out at that time, you re-posted an identical unblock request copied from your 2014 response. And you never did answer the questions posed by Yamla. Here are the questions. Please answer each of them now. Please answer each of them in your own words:
      • What is copyright?
      • How is Wikipedia licenced?
      • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
      • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
      • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. And know that if you resume editing, each of your edits will be personally checked by me for copyright violations for the foreseeable future.— Diannaa (talk) 00:08, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright is the legal rights of the owner of intellectual property. In general, copyright does not protect facts or ideas, but its unique way of being expressed. The owner is the only person who can use that work or grant permission for someone else to use it. Protection arises automatically and does not require registration, with the duration of protection differing based on the nature of the work. Copyright is infringed when such works are used without permission. Crediting the source does not mean that there is no longer a need to obtain permission to use the copyrighted materials. No permission is required when the copyright has expired or it is within the terms of use.

Hence, before contributing to Wikipedia, some questions that I will ask myself are:

  • Is all the content by myself?
  • If not, is the content protected by copyright? If so, do I have the permissions to use the content?
  • Are there other free content not protected by copyright that can support my contributions instead?

As Wikipedia servers are based in the United States, it is subject to US copyright laws. Most of Wikipedia's texts and images are licenced under CC BY-SA and GFDL. Wikipedia Foundation expects all content to be free content. Non-free content may be used when all 10 criteria under the Policy section of Wikipedia:Non-free content are met though it should be replaced by free content at the earliest possible opportunity.

I hope my responses have been convincing enough for me to be reinstated back into the Wikipedia community. I strive to be a clean, fair and honest editor from henceforth. Looking forward to hearing from the reviewing administrators. Doraemon25 (talk) 08:08, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your answers are adequate. I will unblock your account and will be reviewing all your contributions daily. Welcome back.— Diannaa (talk) 15:42, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission has been rejected. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by I dream of horses was: This submission is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: Wikipedia is not a crystal ball; in other words, Wikipedia shouldn't predict the future. This is a hospital that is planned to be open in a decade. It's not named yet. The plans to build could be delayed or scrapped entirely. Until things are more certain and more within the near future, it's probably best not to have an article in mainspace.

Lousy sourcing full of announcements for something that may or may not exist a half a year from now.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
