Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Hdt83 (talk | contribs) at 07:01, 25 May 2013 (→‎{{la|Table tennis}}: semi protected for one month). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This has been on pending revisions, but some users have accepted factually inaccurate edits. An upgrade to semi-protect must be in order. –HTD 06:56, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection - Ever since the word "Yolo" became part of American slang, this page has been bombarded with far more vandalizations than constructive edits. Marechal Ney (talk) 06:01, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Many non-constructive IP and new user edits every couple of days. FallingGravity (talk) 05:25, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary full protection: Repeated and ongoing edit-warring. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 03:14, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    • Please note that editor requesting protection is edit-warring against multiple editors to the point of breaching 3RR ([1] [2] [3] [4] [5]) and filed this immediately after having reverted to a blatantly POV version of his with uncollegial edit summaries in a show of ownership. This is an obvious attempt to use RPP in order to "win" a content dispute Demiurge has against multiple other editors.--The Devil's Advocate tlk. cntrb. 04:45, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – There is an edit war with the user Angelicality. The image called Gente Colombiana crop.jpg does not mention the ethnicity of the people in the photo and also the image does not represent the mestizos. Theryx7 (talk) 02:50, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. 99.149.85.229 (talk) 21:44, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. --Hdt83 Talk 07:01, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Serious long-term additions by person connected to Schiavoni. Give it at least a year. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 21:32, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Immediate return after previous PP of IP jumping editor set on changing nationality without any attempt to discuss on the talk page. Escape Orbit (Talk) 21:02, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Semi-protection for repeated removal of the afd template recently expired, which promptly resumed. Sir Sputnik (talk) 20:28, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection - this was declined yesterday, but there is a dynamic IP that keeps on inserting irrelevant (and borderline inappropriate) information, and of course one should factor in the warring yesterday. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 20:09, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Most edits to this page are IP vandalism and reverts of the vandalism. Peter James (talk) 19:56, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. --Hdt83 Talk 07:00, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent removal of sourced content re: the company's bankruptcy, addition of content copied from its website. Have also requested a user block, and ask that the COI account's latest edits, those omitting sourced content and adding copyright violations, be reverted. Remarkable history for this sort of thing: [6]. 99.149.85.229 (talk) 19:28, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Main-page (ITN) linked article being vandalised by user(s) with newly registered accounts. Probably a day's protection should be OK. LukeSurl t c 19:07, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Looks like the current vandal has stopped and not much of history of vandal edits. Michael Greiner 02:00, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continual unsourced additions. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:50, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism. Getting hit with a lot of IP vandalism today, could use a short period of protection. Zad68 18:22, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. It's a school IP and students should be out until at least Tuesday with a final warning posted. Michael Greiner 01:37, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Can be possible already unlocked and this template?. It was protected years ago as indefinite. --Giggette (talk) 21:39, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Note: Template has 27,199 transclusions. Michael Greiner 02:05, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests
