Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Verbatimusia (talk | contribs) at 14:06, 27 April 2020 (→‎Current requests for increase in protection level). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent disruption on the article page and disturbing a move request. The disruptive activity started after Florida announced that "Combat Sports" are essential service and "people" starving for content during COVID-19 Pandemic. Regice2020 (talk) 02:23, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry but I do not see much of a recent disruption. It looks like most IP edits stick, and only some are reverted.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:28, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Likely collateral damage as one or several users who are making improvements would be affected by the requested protection. I concur with Ymblanter. This is a very heavily edited article, and many constructive edits are made by IPs. MelanieN (talk) 21:06, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=UFC_249_(May_9,_2020_event)&action=history - It the disruption and move request tampering randomly occurs few times a day or two. Regice2020 (talk) 07:26, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Regice2020, you made your request. Two different administrators declined it. This is not a !vote; we don't take Support and Oppose votes. Yes, today there was a disruptive edit today by a new user, reverted by ClueBot. There were also constructive edits by three other IPs. Yesterday there were no vandalism edits, and constructive edits by four different IPs . That’s why we said that banning IPs/new users is not needed, and would do more harm than good. If the situation changes you can always ask again, but we are going to need to see more than just an occasional vandalism edit. -- MelanieN (talk) 19:16, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – User:BFDIBebble and others are constantly attempting to change the URL to .ca without prior consensus. Kevindongyt (talk) 22:52, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This was declined yesterday when I requested it to stop yourself, User:PKHilliam, User:Rock-O-Jello and others from attempting to change the URL to .co without prior consensus. There is a clear COI from this group of users pushing their website on this article. BFDIBebble (talk) 22:55, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You, User:BFDIBebble, have been attempting to change the URL to .ca without any consensus whatsoever, since May 2019. Your attempts to surpress my edits are a clear COI. Proof of your agressive edit-warring can be found here: Uncyclopedia. Also I did not edit Uncyclopedia yesterday, contrary to your statement. Kevindongyt (talk) 23:00, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fully protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. — JJMC89(T·C) 23:14, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    Done--Ymblanter (talk) 13:54, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:47, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Chronic test editing. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 04:38, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Opinions please. I'm inclined to protect but I don't see it covered in WP:PROT. If someone wants to protect or decline, please go ahead. Johnuniq (talk) 07:17, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would decline, this is exactly the talk page we expect newbies to edit, and that some of them do not know how to edit is not really surprising--Ymblanter (talk) 10:49, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: Persistent vandalism – Although particle is semi-protected, please check history of this page. Full of Reverted to revision. Auto confirmed users kept adding Italian information, although everything is mentioned. Please stop users to add any unsourced content without confirming. 25 CENTS VICTORIOUS  07:49, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. Lectonar (talk) 08:45, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs have been trying to add factual errors to this article. MrClog (talk) 09:29, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:58, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Edit warring and failure to discuss by multiple IPs (three in the last few days, all probably the same person) against the consensus at Talk:Mary Lou McDonald#Fianna Fáil FDW777 (talk) 09:43, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:52, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Persistent (almost daily during the last month) unsourced changes to lede and shortdesc by IPs and novice accounts with regards to the nation-wide official languages. Austronesier (talk) 10:18, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Some user edit this article without Wikipedia account. Bdm166 (talk) 10:24, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:44, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent disruptive editing by IP hoppers. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 12:13, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. BlameRuiner (talk) 12:26, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Frequent vandalism occurring. Needs to be protected indefinitely. Gilbert.JW (talk) 12:54, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The IP range of 72.86.138.xxx is back after the last protection expired. Disruptive POV editing. . ZimZalaBim talk 13:46, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 10 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:56, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Frequent vandalism occurring. Needs to be protected indefinitely. Continuous SPAM as well as frequent deletion requests, even though article was considered notable several times in past few years. Verbatimusia (talk) 14:06, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary this article was protected because of sock puppet users but all those account has been blocked and this article needs update and improvement but editors can't do that because of extended confirmed protection.Travis Headache (talk) 12:50, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    @Anachronist: any thoughts on that? Lectonar (talk) 12:57, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. The disruption in the contribution history, as well as the hits in in the filter log, are too recent to consider reducing protection at this time. ~Anachronist (talk) 13:25, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please add Paul Fincham, composer Tkmbartley (talk) 11:53, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Why not add it yourself? The page is not protected. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then request on the talk page, not here. ~Anachronist (talk) 11:59, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason. It looks like this: Wikipedia:Example (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) your request here. ~~~~
