Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Drt1245 (talk | contribs) at 04:25, 17 December 2020 (→‎Long Island serial killer). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP address of user has changed, however, unsourced changes are continuously made, almost on a daily basis. Request to protect at least for a month. - Aquintero82 (talk) 20:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent unhelpful and unsourced changes by JRDkg. Kirtimaansyal (talk) 00:02, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:09, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Long Island serial killer

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Repeat attempts to censor the term "prostitute". drt1245 (talk) 00:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. There needs to be some evidence of a recently failed attempt to resolve the dispute between use of "prostitute" and "sex worker" before this becomes a case of vandalism. Chetsford (talk) 02:59, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dispute resolution requires that there be another editor. But there is no consistent other editor, it's just a long series of drive by IP editors who make no attempt to discuss it. They just remove factual, cited information because it contains a "bad word", and replace it with vague/ambiguous terminology. One editor discussed on the talk page, but I do not believe that they made good arguments, and they never responded further. drt1245 (talk) 04:25, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: BLP policy violations. Binksternet (talk) 01:11, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 01:24, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. Binksternet this is an edit war, in which you have already exceeded WP:3RR — Maile (talk) 02:12, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Uh, no. This is a crystal clear case of socking, with my multiple reverts okayed by WP:BANREVERT. Can we get ECP on the article? Binksternet (talk) 03:57, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    @Binksternet: this is a content dispute/edit warring. 110.137.174.102 (talk) 04:10, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Cedric Diggory

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism by IPs. El Millo (talk) 02:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • Automated comment: One or more pages in this request appear to already be protected. Please confirm.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 03:40, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Media career of Donald Trump

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The vandalism on this page resumed as soon as the previous protection expired. Topics on Donald Trump are inevitably going to draw a high proportion of vandalism unless they're semi-protected, and will inevitably continue to do so until the U.S. political landscape is in a very different place than it is now. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 02:08, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. There's only been one incidence of vandalism in the 12 days since the last protection template expired. If the situation deteriorates, we can revisit but, for now, indefinitely semi-protecting it would be overreach. Chetsford (talk) 02:54, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Nativity of Jesus

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Seems to have become a target. Protect until early January?. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:24, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Super Mario Odyssey

Temporary pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – Most edits in the past month have been adding WP:NOTGAMEGUIDE violations or reverting such edits. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 03:24, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Lorenzo Taliaferro

Temporary semi-protection: Player is reported to be deceased; however, no reputable news sources have confirmed. Despite efforts to maintain page as normal until a reputable source confirms, there have been persistent unsourced edits by non-registered users. The Kip (talk) 03:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Help:Introduction to talk pages/6

Indefinite semi-protection: This is a new page in the intro tutorial. I believe all other pages in the tutorial have been indef. semi-protected due to persistent test edits. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 04:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Dravidian folk religion

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long disrupted by socks, earlier protection against sockpuppetry should be reinstated. Accesscrawl (talk) 04:21, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Israel-Hamas War

I would like to request that... (the map be updated to show that Israel now controls the entire Gaza-Egypt border) . LordOfWalruses (talk) 15:25, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LordOfWalruses this is not the place. Contentious topics should not be unprotected. 48JCLTALK 12:42, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@48JCL: Unregistered and non-extended-confirmed editors are allowed to request edits to ARBPIA pages here. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 15:09, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The talk page Talk:Israel-Hamas War is protected, therefore edit requests by non-extended-confirmed users land here. That is acceptable, and this request made above is reasonable. The people who actually do participate on that talk page should be reviewing requests here that remain open and haven't been declined for days. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:30, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Alvin Bragg Jr.

add "Beginning with the radical left to George Soros-backed prosecutor Alvin Bragg of New York, who campaigned on the fact that he would "get" President Trump, "Critics claim he intentionally targeted Trump not because of the crimes committed but because he disagreed with his politics and wanted to prevent him from seeking a second term. And the article talk page isn't protected either, so this request was pointless. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:28, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This request was never intended to be taken seriously. The text is so patently polemic it's intentional to try and paint Wikipedia as dominated by liberalists. Honestly, the user should be given an AP2 warning, because I do not genuinely think they're dispassionate enough to edit in the topic area, assuming they're even interested in editing in good faith at all.

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.
