Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by AnmaFinotera (talk | contribs) at 14:20, 2 August 2010 (Requesting full protection of User:AnmaFinotera. using TW). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Create protection Has been recreated as of this post at least twice by an author, needs to be protected as there's no indication of importance whatsoever. elektrikSHOOS 09:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Creation protected By Regent's Park. GedUK  12:12, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Template:Navbox Goosebumps (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Full protection High-risk template, the template is used on hundreds of articles. d'oh! talk 06:51, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Only transcluded on 140 pages. Nowhere near enough. GedUK  12:11, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can you help me understand what gets protested or not in terms of high-risk templates? So I know what to request here for protection in the future, as the policy is not clear on this, plus this[1] got protection with only 41 pages yet {{Navbox Goosebumps}} has 140 pages but doesn't get protection. d'oh! talk 12:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
From Wikipedia:High-risk templates. There are no fixed criteria, and no fixed number of transclusions, that are used to decide whether a template is high-risk. Each template is considered separately. If a template relates to a biography of a living person that would strengthen any arguments in favor of (preemptive) protection of the template. Which is basically shorthand for the reviewing admin decides. In that guidance, it talks about the impact of 1000 transclusions, which is probably the number I'd be looking for, and certianly way more than 50. Further up this list I protected a Mountains template which is transcluded 11,000 times. You'll have to ask PeterSymmonds why he protected at 50, but there may be other circumstances I'm not aware of. GedUK  13:16, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your very helpful rationale. d'oh! talk 13:24, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    DirecTV (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protection IP vandalism. TomCat4680 (talk) 05:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Only a couple of edits every few days. Jmlk17 07:08, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    V-League 7th Season 2nd Conference (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protect. IPs converting this to a stats dump. Tried talking to them but they won't budge.. –HTD (ITN: Where no updates but is stickied happens.) 03:55, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Best thing for now is warn again, then take to WP:AIV, or 3RR if they break that. GedUK  12:04, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Stepanakert (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite cascading move-protection, Hello, this article must renamed to Khankendi not to Stepanakert due it is part of de facto independent republic which is recognized as a part of Azerbaijan and de-jure part of of Nagorno Karabakh republic. Same reasons as Aghdara. NovaSkola (talk) 03:12, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question: I think you're looking to move the article, not protect it. What's your rationale for indefinite cascading protection? elektrikSHOOS 09:40, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Declined Doesn't appear to be an issue for this board. There's no recent history of moving. If you think it needs to be moved, get the consensus, then move it. GedUK  12:02, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Amish (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Eli Whitney, Jr. (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Pending changes protection - this article has had semi in the past because of vandalism - while not rampant, it has endured a bit in the past after the semi expiration. Given all that, I'd like to request that PC be implemented on this page, as it does still get vandalism, but enough for a semi. Connormahtalk 20:43, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Let's give it a month and see how it goes. GedUK  11:59, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    PBC CSKA Moscow (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Montenegro national basketball team (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) & Template:PBC CSKA Moscow (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs))

An IP user keeps inserting false information (Vujošević is citizen of Serbia). PBS CSKA Moscow and Template:PBS CSKA Moscow were already semi-protected for one week. I don't know what we should do, perhaps range blocking and checkuser would be appropriate? -- Bojan  Talk  20:05, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To start, I would at least warn the IP, and if the insertion of false information continues, request a block. A8x (talk) 20:35, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Declined Indeed, if it's one or two IPs, better to report them (after warnings) to WP:AIV. GedUK  11:58, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Five discography (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, banned user using many different ip socks over and over to vandalise and disrupt. Mister sparky (talk) 16:27, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

it's been protected for 1 month, but could it be longer please, say 2 or 3? the offending ip has now been blocked by SPI but the user will just use more. Mister sparky (talk) 17:09, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. for the bot. Ask Shirik (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) directly about the length. GedUK  11:55, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.pedia:Requests for page protection/SRheading}}

semi-pro - it begins! Vandalism already starting and the live broadcast has been on for two minutes. These pages are always heavily vandalised during the events' broadcast. Paralympiakos (talk) 01:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

From experience, vandalism this heavy lasts for about 12 hours after the event. However, I respect your decision and will wait to see how it plays out. Paralympiakos (talk) 02:18, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
