Fattah (Persian: موشک هایپرسونیک فتاح) is an Iranian hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and unveiled in 2023. It is Iran's first hypersonic ballistic missile. According to Iran, its high manoeuverability and speed allows it to defeat all missile defence systems.[3][4][5][6][7]
Its name, meaning "conqueror" or "bringer of victory", "victor" in Arabic, in reference to Al-Fattāḥ, was selected by the Supreme Leader of Iran.
Some ballistic missiles already reach hypersonic speeds, Fattah however belongs to a new class of weapon that only a limited ranks of countries possesses.[8]

Description
Fattah is a precision-guided two-stage solid-fueled missile with a range of 1400 km and terminal speed of Mach 13 to Mach 15. Its warhead has a spherical engine running on solid fuel with a movable nozzle that allows the warhead to increase its own speed and move in all directions.[7][9][10]
According to Iran, it can manoeuvre in and out of the atmosphere, and is capable of bypassing missile defenses.[11]
It can also target anti ballistic missile systems. The opponent would then have no defence against Iran's other missiles.[12]
According to Chief of IRGC it has AI capability.[13]
History
On 10 November 2022, during the 11th anniversary of the martyrdom of Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam, known as the "father of Iranian missiles", Iran announced it has built an advanced hypersonic ballistic missile calling it a "major generational leap". Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, IRGC-ASF commander, said the missile has a high velocity and can maneuver below and above the Earth's atmosphere. He said "it can breach all the systems of anti-missile defence" and added that he believed it would take decades before a system capable of intercepting it is developed.[14][15][16][17] He also said not only it can breach the most advanced and significant missile defense systems (in the world), but it can also target them.[18] The next day he stated that the tests have been made and that the missile will be unveiled in an appropriate time.[19]
The unveiling ceremony occurred on 6 June 2023.[7]
