[edit]
The Barnstar of Diligence
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I got your talk page message about deleting the page I created for "Antonia and the Operators", and after considering it, it does seem the right decision until stronger source material can be located about the band. Thank you for checking the page to make sure it suits Wikipedia's standards. ~PetSematary182 PetSematary182 (talk) 04:11, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dan,

It would appear that there really was a Portuguese businessman of this name who was born in 1895 {{citation needed}} and died in 1986 {{citation needed}}.

The main problem here would appear to be his purported honours. I've spent a little time looking at the corresponding article on pt.wpl and there is no mention at all of him in a search within this page for Portuguese honours.

I would appreciate your opinion about this. Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 11:32, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:文乃ゆき

[edit]

Hello, Dan arndt. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "文乃ゆき".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 04:18, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dan arndt,
You are getting this message because you moved this draft article to a different title and then another editor created a page upon that redirect. So, Twinkle sees you as the page creator. Sorry for any confusion. Liz Read! Talk! 04:19, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

James Smither reliable source

[edit]

Flickr sources are not all of the same value. These images were taken from https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C11443817, an earlier version of the book mentioned in the article. I would say that the National Archives of the UK are a reliable source.--Judithcomm (talk) 08:27, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some news about the Smither book in the National Archives. I sent them a message asking about the date of the Anuradhapura book in their catalog (1872). Now I received a reply: the work done for the book indeed dates from around 1872, but the book itself was very likely first published in 1894. They adjusted the catalog accordingly. --Judithcomm (talk) 10:08, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of bus routes from Kottawa

[edit]

Just wanted to know the rationale behind removal of the long standing list of bus routes servicing Kottawa, when similar routes are mentioned in better maintained articles like e.g. Winchmore Hill and Inglewood, Western Australia. WP:NOTTRAVEL seems to specifically intend to avoid people using Wikipedia for travel-related promotional content, which public bus routes are not — Uvants (talk) 15:48, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 15:57:33, 23 December 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Hage Sama

Hi. This article is an English translation of the Polish wikipedia entry on the author (referenced in my translation). This author is an important author in Polish literature and his books are required school reading in grade six of the Polish basic educational system.

Like most kids in Poland, I grew up reading his books. Why would it be irrelevant to include this in the English edition of wikipedia?

The Polish wikipedia article carries the following reference:

"Współcześni polscy pisarze i badacze literatury. Słownik bibliograficzny. Warszawa: Wydawnictwa Szkolne i Pedagogiczne, 1997, s. 252. ISBN 83-02-06694-X."

Translation:

"Modern Polish writers and researchers of literature. Biographical Dictionary. Warsaw. Educational and Pedagigical Publishers, 1997, p. 252. ISBN 83-02-06694-X."

Would this reference meet your standard of "third party source"?

Thank you

Hello I write to you regarding my article/draft - Stone Orange. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Stone_Orange You declined it saying that it needs inline citations, so I added 10 inline citations. Is it enough? Are there any particular statements in my or any text that explicitly need citations? I also tried to upload a photo that I made and edited, but it was rejected. It said "we couldn't determine if the photo is yours" or sometnihg like that. Why is that? Thank you for the answers.

Kuttam Pokuna

[edit]

Hi there! I see you changed some of the dates in the reference of this article and I have a problem with that: The copy of The Buried Cities of Ceylon that I used as a reference is the third edition dated 1899 (follow the link). I cannot be sure an earlier version of this book is exactly the same. Can You? What is the use of mentioning the date it was retrieved if this is a different copy? And the Smither book I had in my hands has 1896 as a date. Here is a label I found inside the book:

Are you sure the 1894 edition is exactly the same? --Judithcomm (talk) 11:10, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I see you are working on improving the article. Can you help me here? I have seen countless websites stating that the ponds 'are' or 'are believed to be' built by this one king. Draft Louis Riel (historiography) article

[edit]

Draft Louis Riel (historiagraphy) article is intended as child article to Louiss Riel per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Louis_Riel#Stanley's_4_critical_perspectives_of_Riel_as_cited_in_Betts

The "or not" does not support ballooning the section in this article; as I indicated above, it would support creation of a more detailed child article. Cblambert (talk) 03:45, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Why do you keep removing the edits I do for the page " List of Alumni of Ananda College ". I am a member of the school's OBA. So I know the alumni much better than you. Why do you remove information just because they don't have Wikipedia articles. I even put some external reference link which you also have removed. I'll be considering reporting you to Wikipedia if you keep doing this and wasting my time and especially my knowledge on alumni of Ananda College. Nesh SNS (talk) 10:55, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Wildfire (British band), deleted on demand of mine

[edit]

My way of dealing with - by my opinion - poorly or badly sourced articles is, to start a research of my own and inserting the sources but not marking or moving it. Or I first try to discuss the problem with the author. By my experience there often do not exist many sources about some topics, so it is difficult to find sources in international scientific magazines. According to this problem I did my best. If an article is not needed, that is sourced by using available reports about any topic, then I think it should be deleted, because my self-confidence does not allow marked or moved articles. I think, I do not need teaching about sourcing for I published in specialist journals. My conclusion is to quit creating articles about Heavy-metal for the English Wikipedia. I do not thank, but I invite you to have a look at the view history and the talk page of https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Leszczy%C5%84ska. That is the way I prefer! WP:AFC Helper News

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future.

Liz Read! Talk! 01:20, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Hey there! Thanks for the feedback! I have changed the primary sources into secondary ones. If there are any more improvement to be made, please don't hesitate and tell me. It has been a long time since I wrote articles in Wikipedia, so I might forget some of the policies. If possible, please reply me as soon as possible, so I could improve the article and remove the template of the proposed deletion on the article. Thank You! Hello Dan arndt!

I understand you proposed that the article Clara Galle to be deleted under the basis of WP:NACTOR. Under the WP:NACTOR guidlines as follow,

Actors, voice actors, comedians, opinion makers, pornographic actors, models, and celebrities:

  • Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions;
  • Deprecated: Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following;
  • Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment.

these guidelines are rather vague to me. How do you define a "notable", "unique", "prolific" or "innovative", without any metric these definition that constitute as the guideline for notability is subjective from person to person. If possible, can you provide me a certain metric or a definitive precedent that can meet these guidelines. I am looking forward to communicate furthermore and improve this article to meet the standard of Wikipedia.

Yours Cordially,

Timmy78722 (talk) 05:09, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

I have written my concerns and objection over at my own (talk) and the talk page of Clara Galle

Thanks!

Re: moving "ETR (Enterprise Technology Research)" to "Enterprise Technology Research

[edit]

Hi Dan. Thanks for your review of the ETR article I wrote, which is still in draft. I noticed you "moved" or renamed the article from "ETR (Enterprise Technology Research)" to just "Enterprise Technology Research." Below is my rationale for why I respectfully disagree and would like to see it stay - somehow - with ETR somewhere in the title:

ETR did go by the name Enterprise Technology Research for several years, using the ETR initials as a way to shorten it for convenience in documents that mention the name several times. But ETR underwent a rebrand in 2021 to just use ETR. Given that ETR is the official branding but many people and journalists still know the company as just Enterprise Technology Research or as seeing ETR and Enterprise Technology Research as interchangeable, it would better serve users to be able to somehow find ETR when they only look for "ETR." I know there's a disambiguation page for ETR, and rightfully so. I'm just wondering if there's some way to have ETR in the article name somehow. Perhaps that's "ETR (Enterprise Technology Research)" or it could be "ETR (research firm)" or perhaps "Enterprise Technology Research (ETR)" or something similar.

There's a parallel here to organizations like IBM, which was founded a century ago as International Business Machines but is now widely just known as IBM and whose own corporate website only uses "International Business Machines" a few times in the legalese of its privacy policy. Or perhaps a parallel to NPR, which has long been known by both NPR and National Public Radio but has more recently made a concerted effort to just use NPR as much as possible. In NPR's case, there's a "National Public Radio redirects here" note at the top and the page itself is just "NPR."

I'm not as versed on the rules and standards of how/why Wikipedia prefers to use full names, acronyms, parentheticals, or a combination for article titles, but just wanted to propose a solid rationale here for why I think ETR needs to stay somewhere, somehow in the article title. Would that be possible? I tried to undo your edit or somehow fix it but it wouldn't let me - you probably have the ability to do this or not so appealing to you directly here.

Thanks! Darenbrabham (talk) 17:49, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Submission for draft: FoodBeeper(2) declined

[edit]

Hello, I've seen that you declined my article submission due to the title already existing. I believe it's a cross namespace redirect problem that I'm unable to solve. the page you said already exists is a blank page that I've put for speedy deletion. If I'm allowed to ask, when the blank page gets deleted, can I resubmit my article for review? thank you,Rymknows23 (talk) 11:33, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Someone from the Teahouse cleared the cross namespace redirects mess, for which I'm forever thankful, and I resubmitted my article for review. Can you please see to it and maybe approve my article or suggest edits I need to make. I think I should also mention that the advert tag on my article is mainly, or as I believed it to be the sole reason, because my sources are in Arabic and French, since these are the main languages dealt with in Algeria. But all the sources are reliable and independent. Regards, Rymknows23 (talk) 11:59, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

[edit]

Hi Dan,

I have taken into consideration the comments made about the submission, I will add more secondary sources and delete the ones considered invalid. Regarding WP:ANYBIO, would it be possible to receive additional information, as the rules are quite vague? There are certain elements which would state that he fulfils the requirements such as being Director for Europe and MENA of a world-leading organisation such as the Institute for Economics and Peace, being the Chair for World Politics at the Belgian Military Academy or the military awards received.

In terms of promotion I would perceive to be neutral and would love any indications on how to potentially improve the article in this regard, also if anything more needs to be done regarding the declaration of potential COI.

That would help out a lot!

I thank you kindly

Apologies, I was reviewing this draft and was distracted. I had this accepted for the mainspace after clearing up the draft of puffery. As for the earlier draft, I see it as it is clearly abandoned and have not been worked on since October 2021, about 2 months before the second draft was written. Despite the repeated declines for 'existing draft', the second draft had been worked on and is just better than the initial draft. I don't think there's much to move from the first draft given that most of it are either unsourced, or plain promotional, thus a redirect, at least to keep the history.

P.S. While typing the above, I found that there's a duplicate article at Leopoldo Laroya. -.- I have resolved both drafts (including the one moved to mainspace) to the shorter title. – robertsky (talk) 06:39, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Rollback

[edit]

Can you explain your use of rollback in this edit? I'm not understanding how it is consistent with WP:ROLLBACKUSE. DanCherek (talk) 12:40, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

DanCherek, The article was a draft at the time and I was in the process of addressing the issue of copright infringements by re-writing/re-phrasing relevant information. Your edits deleted some significant information which made it hard for me to rewrite it - by reverting your edit it enabled me to bring it into a form that was compliant with Wikipedia standards Dan arndt (talk) 12:59, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Please don't use rollback for that kind of thing in the future because I had a hard time seeing what you were doing without a more specific edit summary. My edit was not "obvious vandalism and other edits where the reason for reverting is absolutely clear", nor a "widespread edit (by a misguided editor or malfunctioning bot) unhelpful to the encyclopedia". Thanks for rewriting it, though, and I appreciate your help with cleaning up some of that other editor's work. DanCherek (talk) 13:04, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

Perth

[edit]

Please stop making test edits to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism, which, under Wikipedia policy, can lead to being blocked from editing.

My justification in the description of changes: "revert changes by 175.39.209.155 - old aboriginal name of a historical place to use for modern!!! city is absurdal and debatable, a clear consensus is required per Wikipedia:CYCLE, Wikipedia:Stable version and Wikipedia:Consensus".

My description of the changes was sufficient and fully justified. You may have a different opinion, it doesn't matter: the guidelines of the Wikipedia in these situations are clear, guidelines exist to prevent editing wars. Wikipedia:CYCLE say: new edit + revert by other user = must to ber discuss cycle and consensus; Wikipedia:Stable version say: stable (old) version takes precedence over the new disputed edition. Your change has been reveerted and treated as destructive to Wikipedia. If you have a different opinion, feel free to write about it in the discussion (Talk:Perth#Aboriginal_name), but for a new change to be introduced to an article, there must be consensus. Subtropical-man ( | en-2) 15:20, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

  • I think that comments like this old aboriginal name of a historical place to use for modern!!! city is absurdal and debatable is offensive and disrespectful to Australians and in particular members of Australia's first nation. The Nyungar people still exist and their language is very much alive and becoming increasingly commonly used, in recognition that they were the first inhabitants of this area not white Europeans. This is reflected across Perth, and particularly by local governments, including the City of Perth. For Subtropical-man to insinuate that it is a historical term reflects his basic misunderstanding of Australian Aboriginal culture. Dan arndt (talk) 02:01, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello Dan! Recently you reviewed my draft for the band Ludovico Technique. I have added several new sources and addressed the issue of notability you had brought up. Specifically, the band has released three releases (2 full lengths and an EP) on Metropolis Records [2], a significant indie that has operated for 30 years and represents many notable artists (meets WP:BAND #5) and have documented evidence of having toured [3] [4] (meets WP:BAND #4). Additionally, an appearance on the German Alternative Charts (DAC) should meet WP:BAND #2.[5][6] Is it possible for you to take another peek? Thank you so much!! Except in very obvious cases (such as removing from an article that has been categorized), it is wise to place a note on the talk page explaining the removal and to identify your action in an appropriately detailed edit summary." As per the above I believe that I have explained my rationale for the removal of the tags. Don't use your bullying tactics as a means to stiffle discussion on this matter. Dan arndt (talk) 06:44, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Dan arndt,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Dan arndt,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12229 articles, as of 20:00, 12 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

Removal of copyvio revdel templates

[edit]

Hi, I saw that you removed the {{copyvio-revdel}} templates on Haldummulla and Dhowa rock temple. Although I thank you for adding content, and that content is clean as far as copyright is concerned, that doesn't change the need for revision deletion for some of the old versions that contained rather serious copyright violations. I have since reinstated the revdel requests. Is there a reason you removed the templates before an admin looked them over? ComplexRational (talk) 15:53, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

  • @ComplexRational: - my error. Shows that I didn't read all of the template. At first glance I though it was for the article to be deleted. Thanks to your comments above I realise that you were just seeking for the copyvios to be deleted from the history. Appreciate the advice. Dan arndt (talk) 06:50, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Doro Forever Warriors, Forever United

[edit]

I'm not using Youtube as reference material to cite information from, its just to link people the video for them to check out. Other pages do this so I figured it'd be ok. And as for the Nuclear blast page, the previous record Raise Your Fist includes links/reference to the nuclear blast cite, which I also thought would be ok to include. I really only used it for the quote from Doro's about the album itself. I can remove them if you want, but other pages, not just from Doro, have done this too; Its not just me. Thank you, and please reply back soon so I can quickly adress the issue. Kingofstillport (talk) 09:23, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Notice

The article Murder of Tshegofatso Pule has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:ONEEVENT

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dan arndt (talk) 02:03, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

I think instead of tagging the article for speedy deletion, you can actually help improve it. It's notable after all! Plus if you feel strongly that it needs to be deleted you can actually move it to draft, that way, you're also helping improve notable African content which is a dearth on Wikipedia. Bobbyshabangu talk 02:23, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
And by the way, rather than getting angry I actually find it very interesting that you've tagged that article for speedy deletion, and provided that reason for tagging it. Would really love to engage with your and learn more on this. Bobbyshabangu talk 02:47, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Draftifications

[edit]

Hello, Dan arndt,

I have some questions about some recent draftifications you've done over the past day. First, please use a script to draftify, the most popular among patrollers and admins is probably User:Evad37/MoveToDraft. This script will easily move a page from main space to Draft space and, most importantly, will post a notification on the talk page of the article creator to let them know where they can find their article. It just makes the process very smooth. You'll just see a "Move to Draft" option in the "More" tab on the page menu. Select and it will do all of the work for you!

Also, after you have moved a page from main space to Draft space, please tag the original page for speedy deletion, CSD R2. Then an admin can easily find and delete the page as a cross-namespace redirect. Thank you for all of your contributions to the project and I hope this tool will make your editing process easier! New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Dan arndt,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
Defenders of the Crown

[edit]

Hello there, I saw you declined my submission because it doesn't show significant coverage about the subject by a reliable source that are independent of the subject at hand, but I have to decline that as I had given two reliable sources that others have used before. The article on the Brutal Legend video game and the Brocas Helm band both reference the same source. Also Rock Hard is a trusted site that others such as myself have used and haven't had issue with. The Angry Metal Guy source should be ok too cause others use it besides me on bigger sites; I've cited it before without issue as well. It'd be helpfull if you could get back to me whenever your able to state why they don't work. Thank you, Kingofstillport (talk) 07:36, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

The Brothers Sun (upcoming TV Series)

[edit]

Hi, thank you for your feedback (clarifying previous rejection). However, I disagree with the justifications used to reject the publication of the article. According to WP:TVSERIES, if a future television series has any confirmation of the start of the filming process, then the article of the questioned television series can be published. I felt that I have filled the criteria since I already proved that the filming process already began. Additionally, I believed that I used published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject.

Furthermore, even if my draft is poorly cited and do not fill the requirements, I don't feel that the use of WP:OTHERSTUFF refutations to reject my article is justified since many articles that "did not met the requirements" literally exists on the template below (i.e. Beef, Jigsaw)

If the refutations are justified than any articles aforementioned should be "re-drafted" in the first place. Thank you for your "concern". WikiNarco (talk) 06:15, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

Re: Simon Binks

[edit]

As a matter of courtesy, I want to let you know that I have re-edited the Simon Binks page from the current version. My comments were as follows:

"Reverted some of the good faith Discography edits made by Dan arndt. Re Spiff Rouch: A video clip containing music released on a 2004 DVD from a major record label (EMI) is absolutely a musical release (albeit belated). Consequently, "Wangaratta Bay" is reinstated with two new references. Re Broderick Smith Band: "Breath of Man" was released on the 2004 retrospective album "Journal" - which included at least one live track. However, musicians were not credited so I will concede the point."

I trust that we can leave Mr Binks in peace now. Thanks for your contribution. Adducer (talk) 05:29, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

It seems my courtesy was not reciprocated. No matter. My most recent editing comments were as follows:

"1976 Music Video "Wangaratta Bay" officially released on DVD by EMI in 2004. Dan arndt reversions removed "useful content": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:How_to_deal_with_vandalism. Video clips and releases containing a single song are expressly included in the Per-release section of WP:DISCOGSTYLE: "Requirements listed below with a † are not expected of singles, music videos, or any other releases featuring a single song." References comply with Article-wide part 5 of WP:DISCOGSTYLE."

As a lawyer, I love detail and drafting and I thank you for drawing Wikipedia:DISCOGSTYLE to my attention.

Your contention: "If it were an official release then it should be included on the Australian Crawl Discography not Simon Bink's (sic) discography." is flawed on two grounds:

Firstly, any release by EMI is, without question, an official release. In this regard, I refer you to: The Definitive Collection (Australian Crawl & James Reyne album). This page has never been edited my me. In paragraph 3, the page cites the release of the DVD in May 2004 (with a reference) together with a specific comment regarding "a rare recorded performance by Spiff Rouch".

Secondly, the music video in question is credited to Spiff Rouch - not Australian Crawl. Therefore, it should not be added to the Australian Crawl discography. The Definitive Collection album in its entirety is already included in both the Australian Crawl and James Reyne full discography pages.

By way of completeness, you will note that Wikipedia:DISCOGSTYLE specifically envisages use of the Discogs website as follows:

"An External links section

Commonly-used links include the artist's or band's homepage and/or links to Discogs or Allmusic."

Pedantry - especially when misplaced - should not stand in the way of providing extra information. To this end, I refer you to Wikipedia:Ignore_all_rules.

I am satisfied that the definitive (if you will pardon the pun) case has been made for my edit. Once again, thank you for your interest in these matters and all the best for your work on Wikipedia. Adducer (talk) 20:52, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Bear Witness

[edit]

Some tracks produced by Maher in NY but which studio?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:45, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

@Shaidar cuebiyar:, that's been bugging me - I've searched but haven't come up with anything yet. Ceberano's autobiography only mentions that the band stayed at the Algonquin Hotel in New York whilst they were recording the album. She does make it clear that neither she or Abeyratne were involved in the song writing, arrangements or production. The trip and recording in New York were funded by by London Records as an advance on the album. I'll keep searching. Dan arndt (talk) 08:12, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Goodge tells us their first work for London Records was "Lead the Way" ends up on the 2018 as (New York Mix), which was "Recorded at Francois Kervorkian's [sic] studio with Kraftwerk upstairs and Deodato and Cindy Lauper living in the building, and mixed at Nile Rodgers' studio." Kevorkian (note spelling) ran Axis Studios in New York (in same building as Studio 54).shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:02, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Maher was in Melbourne in February 1986 producing I'm Talking's new album, see Countdown indent here. Does Ceberano's bio say when they were in NY?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 17:56, 26 August 2022 (UTC)22:02, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

  • I've gone with pre-production (including arrangements) in NY with Maher but recording/production at AAV, Melbourne.
  1. Furthermore, since the article describes the expanded releases do we need to mention that Abeyratne was not a member when they recorded "Trust Me" Someday EP?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:29, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
  2. Do we need to add personnel for the additional tracks? e.g. Ross Cockle co-produced "Trust Me", "Lead the Way" and "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" and presumably their B-sides, which are on the 2018 CD version.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:16, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
  3. When was the first CD version? Article has 1992 but I've seen 1996 (unreliable sources).shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:43, 27 August 2022 (UTC) More food for thought Paul Cashmere has 1992 see here.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:12, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
    1. I'm leaning towards 1996 despite Cashmere: although not reliable, discogs has photos of rear cover art, which shows 1996. Catalogue Nos: D91056, RMD51056 and TVD91056 on Regular Records.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:41, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
  4. Is the following source independent enough? "Track by Track: I'm Talking - Bear Witness [Bloodlines] (Out Friday 23 March 2018)" at Mushroom Promotions. I can't find the author but it seems to be by Goodge.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:05, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
  • @Shaidar cuebiyar: - you've found the holy grail - I found a reference to Goodge giving a track by track description but hadn't be able to track down the original (you have!!). I think we can state that this is the songwriter's description of each of the songs -yes!
In respect to pre-production, Ceberano is fairly clear that they were actually recording the songs in New York. She describes being called into record the vocals only during the night as during the day Goodge, Cox and Maher were playing on their machines. Based on her account it would appear that money from their record label's advance was running low which is why they returned to Melbourne to complete the recording.
I think that we split a separate section to describe the re-issues, particularly the 2018 version.

Happy to hear your thoughts. Dan arndt (talk) 05:34, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, go with what you reckon. Additionally a review of 2018 version is here.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:51, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
I'm starting with adding Goodge's quotes to the individual song articles. Will think about how to add that to the album article when I get my head around how it will add the most value. Dan arndt (talk) 05:56, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

We need a better ref for platinum certification. I can't check Leigh Axton (don't have the book) and Tas Talent is not independent and does not even refer to Bear Witness. Cashmere (see link above), once again: mentions platinum, but this is not reliable enough.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:41, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Did they have another CD reissue? (See here). Released via WM Australia in 2007.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:05, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

@Shaidar cuebiyar: - Appears as a digital release only - possible compilation of individual digital sound files of each song - wouldn't think its significant enough to mention. Dan arndt (talk) 06:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

US Version: AllMusic has a different track listing for 2018 reissue, here. It includes all tracks from Someday EP.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:43, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

I don't have access to either book but does KMR's Chart Book or Gavin Ryan's Aus Mus Charts have accreditations for Bear Witness? If so we need page no.s.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:55, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

More on 2018 reissue:

  1. Discogs has photos of 2018 expanded album inserts (see here) its resolution is poor and its double-page spreads are hard to access (on my computer).
  2. First disc is Disc One – Bear Witness and next is Disc Two – Bonus Tracks
  3. It includes a track-by-track (probably same as Bloodlines version linked above).
  4. Curiously it is copyright 2017 (not 2018).
  5. Additional musicians are latter day members: Warren McLean on drums and Kevin Wiltshire on keyboards (not yet in article).
  6. Additional cover notes (3 pages) detail the band's history written by a band member (probably Goodge but we need a better/clearer attribution). Some material was recorded during their Australian Made tour (hence with two new guys).

Remaining problems?

[edit]
  1. Platinum accreditation still needs a reliable source.
  2. Studio(s) used in New York
  3. Any others you can think of?

Ping me if I can help further.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:16, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Still no reliable secondary source on platinum accreditation. I'm going to remove this from the Lead and main section. I think we have to bite the bullet and take it to GAN. What do you say?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:44, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

Infobox image

[edit]

What is your justification for reducing the size of the infobox image for the Virgil Reilly article? I had a quick look at featured articles in Wikipedia ("considered to be some of the best articles Wikipedia has to offer"), and all of the articles with infoboxes I surveyed had infobox images larger than 150px. There was nothing wrong with the image size before your edit, so I would like to know your reason for reducing the image. Ikeshut2 (talk) 20:48, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Draftification

[edit]

Hi! I noticed you draftified some articles today but did not notify the authors. Notification is a requirement, as most new editors well be left confused and panicked without a message. User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js makes that process easier. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 13:28, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Japanese Soccer anthem

[edit]

I think that dissussion is unproductive. I agree that this is not enough for individual article. Therefore I redirected Japanese Soccer Anthem to Ryuichi Sakamoto#Sports. Thank you for your attention to this article. Footwiks (talk) 06:00, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

@Footwiks:, there was another almost identical article, J's Theme, which was redirected to Michiya Haruhata#Sports work. They appear to be about the same song but without reliable sources I can't be certain. Any way don't have time to go down that rabbit hole. Dan arndt (talk) 06:17, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Japanese Soccer Anthem and J's Theme are totly different song.

Eleine (band) articles

[edit]

I saw you put in a PROD on the band and the album. They have actually charted in Sweden https://swedishcharts.com/showinterpret.asp?interpret=Eleine although the original editor has not put that in. Also the band article in mainspace had major copyvio from the website so that's why the history section was removed. There's also a draft but that was eventually rejected for POV issues. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 06:02, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

I have added the chart entry and altered the bio accordingly. I hope this works now. Also, I don't understand why the info about their first album has been removed. Michael13111983 (talk) 06:53, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

That one editor created these poorly sourced stubs for every team in the league... after seeing your prod, I went through them and redirected them all to the league. Which they also created and is very poorly sourced, although sources do exist to show it passes GNG. Onel5969 TT me 13:30, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Dan arndt,

When you move a page from main space to Draft space, please tag the original page CSD R2 so that admins can see it and delete it. I'm not sure if you use it but draftification is made simpler and more complete if you use User:Evad37/MoveToDraft script to draftify articles. It notifies page creators that their articles has been moved to Draft space which is an important step in the process. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:40, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Bear Witness

[edit]

The article Bear Witness you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Bear Witness for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Sammi Brie -- Sammi Brie (talk) 20:21, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

By the way, Sammi's statement "Must AGF the citations to Ceberano 2014" means [she] "Must Assume Good Faith the citations to Ceberano 2014" (my emphasis). As for the errant Countdown 1987 Awards I've tracked that they are mentioned in the Countdown Annual of 1987 but I don't have an online source so I'll pop in the off-line version.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:22, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Draft:The Browser Company

[edit]

Hello! I remember offering advice for future drafts, and I've made a new one: Draft:The Browser Company.

I think this would be a decent stub/start-quality article because there are multiple sources talking about the company and their browser, including notable sources like Bloomberg and TechCrunch. There isn't much more to say about it because the browser is in closed beta. I also didn't want to make the page sound like an advertisement.

Also, I'm not affiliated with the company, it's just that my friend told me about the browser and I saw that it had enough of an internet presence to warrant a small article. RPI2026F1 (talk) 00:06, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

about the Article on yehezkel Fogel, I have sources but they are in Hebrew, what should I do? פרש ירושלמי (talk) 10:44, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Dan,

If you check out the page history of this page, you'd have seen that an editor blanked the page and it was origianlly a redirect. The correct act to take would be to revert that edit, not tag the page for speedy deletion. When you are patrolling, please make sure you check out pages thoroughly, a valid redirect might have been accidentally deleted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:40, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Lyrics of unofficial anthem of Balochi separatists

[edit]

Why did you delete the lyrics of Ma Chuke Balochani when it is the unofficial anthem of Balochi separatists? There is an anthem for Qaumi Taranah and Watan Hamara Azad Kashmir which are also official anthems, but not for this. I know you added WP:SONG#LYRICS, but it is not like a song, more of an anthem. New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

[edit]

Hello Dan arndt,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Shopping centers in Tasmania

[edit]

Hello there. You appear to have nominated for deletion every shopping center in Tasmania on the 15th, sans Northgate. Tasmania has a very small editor base, and I honestly don't have time to fix all of these articles, but it is disappointing to see this done as it frankly seems you haven't tried to check for sources yourself before doing so. I'll be attempting to fix up some of the articles, and will check all the rest for notability, but in the mean time I wanted to ask if you had specific concerns that had led you to do this? JTdale 🗩 17:00, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Dan,

What happened here? Why did you move this article out of main space to Draft space (perfectly okay) and then create a new main space version of the article yourself (not cool)? You shouldn't replace another editor's work with your own. Luckily, AngusWOOF has requested a history merge of the two pages. I'm trying to AGF here but your actions don't lend themselves to a positive evaluation. If you wanted to work on this article, you should have worked to improve the existing article whether it was in main space or Draft space. Liz Read! Talk! 06:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Article is currently at about C/B level but needs more independent reviews, deeper discussion of its genres and impact on the Australian scene; otherwise it won't be GA-worthy. There's also a fair few refs that need archive-urls. I'm stepping away for now while passing the torch to you. Have fun.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:14, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
