Re: Nusantara page

Hi there! It was not my intention to 'damage' the Nusantara page.

There was an editors' note to not refer to the city as anything but Nusantara (ie, not 'Nusantara City)—that was the catalyst for the changes I made. I will be further clearing up the copy on the page, as it is included in the May 2023 roundup for articles needing work. Let me know if you have any further issues :) (!)

Canterbury Cathedral

Dear Dl2000,

I have to admit that I am not very familiar with how Wikipedia operates, and am therefore grateful for guidance from anyone. However, I can't see why stating that I was acting Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral from September 2010 to December 2010, as indeed I was, amounts to 'disruptive editing.' I certainly have no wish to compromise the integrity of anyone else's web pages, and trust you will appreciate that I added this information in the interests of accuracy and completion. If there is a good reason for this to be excluded, then I'm sure I will understand if you or anyone can provide a reasonable explanation.

The message I received also stated:

'If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Canterbury Cathedral, you may be blocked from editing.' To the best of my knowledge, I did not delete anything from this page – if by accident or oversight I did, then please accept my apologies.

Best wishes,

Special:WantedTemplates

Hi, I have been helping with an effort to clear up false-positives in Special:WantedTemplates and found that 10 of the entries can be traced back to User:Dl2000/DateFix2.js and User:Dl2000/DateFix7.js. For example, if you check Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Birth date' + andage + ', you will see that the server is reporting that DateFix2.js and DateFix7.js are transcluding that template. Clearly this is a quirk in how the backend software parses javascript pages, but it makes it harder to find the real problem pages. It would be great if you could put

// <syntaxhighlight lang=javascript>

at the top of the script and

// </syntaxhighlight>

at the bottom of the pages. Since these are commented out, it won't break the javascript, but it will prevent the backend software from parsing the {{Birth date' + andage + '}} as a template transclusion. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:51, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Rakesh Tewari

Hi Di2000 I am trying to add real work that has been done by Rakesh Tewari, can you tell my why is that not allowed? Understand that it might look like resume / CV but for an academician, publications and papers are most important. So how do I add real information and still not get it deleted? Please help understand.

Information icon Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Guy (2018 film), without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 21:29, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

You are right. I guess I thought I'd resolved the problem with a description in the lede, as the "plot" can be summarized in a couple of sentences so there isn't much need for a separate summary section. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 02:15, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Took another look, plot tag doesn't seems justified, although a few adjustments were needed. Also, short description tags should not be removed, at least not without cause. Dl2000 (talk) 02:45, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Adho Durso

Hi Thank you for pointing out my mistake that I hadn't added sources that could have justified the name change to Dursa Arha/Adha. I was going to add more information about the subject and alongside add sources by then to justify name change also. Now I have applied for name change move and already added 2 sources where the name is in (Dursa Adha/Dursa Arha) order. Sources:[1] [2] By the way, Dursa is a first name and Arha/Adha is a last name. Arha/Adha is a lineage of Charans and is used as a surname. About source one([3]), in which Adho Durso was written is because sometimes the caste name is written first and then the person name. And this is a very rare for the subject. By modern convention and popular usage, "Dursa Arha/Adha" is the correct name. I am going to add more information and update the article, hope it sticks this time.

Hi DI2000,

I am wondering why you decided to revert a number of changes I made on this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kambisseri_Karunakaran). Granted that I did not log in and make the changes and it seemed like it was made from an IP address, the changes I made were still valuable information. It took such a long time and effort to write it. It was frustrating to see that you manually reverted the changes - made all the more painful as this page is about my grandfather. I wish you had taken time to read the changes I made before reverting them.

Request you to please not revert changes without at least reading them well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rini.Rafi (talkcontribs)

Sankararaman murder case

Is this good? Can i at least add what I wrote. The person who wrote the article purposefully skipped content about the confession of the murder accused for the murder and made it one sided. It is very sad you called me ip horseplay and WP:NPOV fails. I advise you to read what i wrote fully. I did not write any advocacy or promotional content. I gave reliable ref for everything I added. I gave the link above. 103.240.235.1 removed 6000+ bytes of content so i thought 103.240.235.1 was making it not neutral but he was only shortening. So it is okay. I added the content I added before and made no revert. Is it okay at least now?2409:4072:6D10:FDC4:64D6:CE4D:5274:D370 (talk) 07:33, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

The article was being edited by multiple IP addresses, thus seems to be WP:IPSOCK. Describing the case as "sensational" in the lede goes against WP:NPOV and there were other problems with the edits such as spelling, and generally unjustified changes. Also, the above talk message was written from multiple addresses, a talk page message should only be edited from just address: 157.46.126.14 (talk) 2409:4072:6d10:fdc4:64d6:ce4d:5274:d370 (talk) 2409:4072:6d10:fdc4:770c:bd89:8930:aca1 (talk) Dl2000 (talk) 13:54, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

What is the hatnote "use my dates" good for?

Sorry to bother, but you've just added a "use my dates" hatnote and I always wondered what it's good for. Any quick, short answer possible? Thank you, Arminden (talk) 13:04, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'm not even sure which, the question has a general character, this hatnote appears at the top of almost every article. I encounter it everywhere and never know what it means. You've added one, that means you know about its benefits. I'm sometimes (seldom) starting new articles, maybe I should know. Maybe there's a link to a page about it? Thanks! Sorry to bother again (last time, I promise), but could you please give me a very short answer? What is the hatnote "use my dates" good for? Removal of content from Vijay Kumbhar profile

Hello,

Can you specify what is the reason for removal of content? Vsutar10 (talk) 11:01, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

The content had no sources/references (see WP:BLP, WP:V) and it was too promotional in tone, especially for the lead section (WP:NPOV, WP:OR). Vijay Kumbhar may indeed have made these accomplishments, but these require proper citations, be worded in a proper tone, and mostly should be after the lead (the summary of the article). Reinserting a removed template and date format

Hello. Please understand that the removal of a template by me wasn't an error, it was deliberate, and I already explained my reason in my edit summary. Since, however you decided to reinstate it, instead of edit war, I will come here and explain my reasoning in detail. Perhaps you didn't seen it, by the initial creator was @RayElwood:. According to this edit he had it sat in mdy date format, which ThatFilmGuy92 reversed. ThatFilmGuy92 was later found to be a sock puppet of another editor, but his edit was never reverted for an unknown to me reason. Maybe instead of granting wishes of a suck puppet, we would rather grant wishes of an initial creator, as it says in our policies?--Filmomusico (talk) 01:59, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

  • I don't know why Dl2000 was targeted. I find your tone rather abrupt. To repond to your comment, Nothing is private any more once it's posted on the internet. Especially a blog. I am James Bell's grandson and I made a series of updates to his Wikipedia page from documents in my possession and/or a published book for which I cited the ISBN number. Many details are also available on another website for club fans.

You deleted photos even though I have his passport and could easily validate these.

You deleted his goal records which are in the public domain and came from published programmes.

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Dl2000,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Bengal Club edit

Hello. I saw that you inserted "citation needed" flags for two sentences for the Bengal Club article:

Some websites thus erroneously state that the Bengal United Service Club was the predecessor of the Bengal Club. [citation needed]

Some decades later, the club installed a portrait of Dwarakanath Tagore. [citation needed]

Re the first sentence, actually it was the old Wikipedia article (which I corrected) which made that mistake and various sites copied the mistake from the old Wikipedia page. I got to know about this from this blog, which says: "On 15th March 1853, the Bengal Military Club changed its name to the Bengal United Service Club. This change in name has led several websites, including Wikipedia, to state that the Bengal Club started out as the United Service Club. This is absolutely incorrect."

http://double-dolphin.blogspot.com/2016/04/united-service-club-chowringhee-calcutta-kolkata.html

I tried to insert this blog as a citation, but Wikipedia gives a warning for citing blogs. Apart from this blog I have no authority for the statement. So I guess the sentence should either be deleted or the blog given as the citation? FYI here are some sites which reproduce the mistake from the old Wikipedia article:

https://www.facebook.com/175360936588412/posts/the-bengal-club-was-opened-in-1827-as-the-bengal-united-service-club-by-a-group-/651113472346487/ https://it.qiq.wiki/wiki/Bengal_Club https://en.bharatpedia.org.in/wiki/Bengal_Club https://www.tutorialathome.in/heriatage-club/calcutta-club-heritage

Re the second sentence, I made the conclusion myself. The club's website says: "In 1989, the inauguration of Room 300 (containing portraits of 19th century Bengali reformers and intellectuals, and inaugurated by communist Chief Minister Jyoti Basu) marked a clear break from the Club’s imperialist past." The photo of the room seems to have this photo of Tagore, from what I can make out. So I concluded that the portrait must have been inserted when Jyoti Basu inaugurated the room.

https://www.thebengalclub.com/landmark-events-and-milestones/

Is this sufficient? If not, then should the "citation needed" tag be retained until another person finds a better source? Or shoudl the sentence be deleted entirely?

Thank you.

Anderson1970 (talk) 06:25, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your talk page message about this article. First, you may want to review Wikipedia guidelines/policies about reliable sources and original research. Blogs are usually not classified as reliable, even if their content is sometimes accurate and high quality, thus Wikipedia may try to screen out "blogspot" links as sources. Original research covers conclusions drawn that are not directly indicated by the source. So in the case of these sentences from The Bengal Club:

1. Some websites thus erroneously state that the Bengal United Service Club was the predecessor of the Bengal Club. [citation needed]

  • Not sure which websites are involved (other than the earlier version of the WP article), and the issue is mentioned in the article's talk page, and already corrected in the article. So it may be best to omit this sentence, and perhaps add clarity that BUSC has no connection with TBC.

2. Some decades later, the club installed a portrait of Dwarakanath Tagore. [citation needed]

  • Looking at the info, it seems obvious a portrait was installed, although the sentence leads to questions as to when or at what event this happened. Since there is already an image of the portrait in the article, it may be better to omit the sentence as redundant unless a source can be found with additional detail about the portrait.

Hope this helps explain the issues. Dl2000 (talk) 14:59, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks you for your helpful reply. May I then delete the two sentences and refer to our conversation in the edit summary and say that I am deleting on your advice?

Are they possibly intentionally violating our TOU?

I just saw this apt warning by you to them. In-fact after I saw this article of theirs John Shownmi I left this warning on their TP. It is my opinion that this is a conflict of interest and specifically they have failed to expressly disclose their paid status. This here was how the article was at the time they created the article and this is it now, see here. I’m still in the process of removing of unverified promotional content as well as unreliable sources from the article, but I am indeed troubled that they may be violating WP:PAID, if this disruptive attitude of theirs coupled with their NOTHERE pattern of editing persists then I think filling to ANI may be the last option. Updating of the article is welcome, but there were a few problems with your edit: 1) addition of unreferenced or poorly referenced information; 2) the changes added a Wikipedia link as a reference - that should not be done according to WP:CIRC, also see WP:RS; 3) the edit removed some existing content that seemed to have valid references. Hope this explains the concern, it was not so much about being incorrect, but rather properly sourced while making sure not to unduly disrupt existing content. ITV Nightscreen

Good day, I would just like to clarify with you that I was not vandalising the templates on ITV Nightscreen. I didn’t even mean to delete the first one which something along the lines of ‘use dmy dates, august 2014’, I didn’t even know I had done it, so I will apologise for that, it was just a mistake, NOT vandalism. As for the second one, which something along the lines of ‘needs additional citations December 2012), I did remove, because I felt like there were enough citations and I had even added one myself, so again, I wasn’t trying to vandalise. The notice about not enough citations is still up after you put it back, so I thought I’d ask for your approval before removing it again. Blanchey (talk) 13:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Blanchey: Thank you for your explanation about the September 2021 edits to ITV Nightscreen. Don't recall the edits being directly declared as vandalism, although the talk message was described as uw ("user warning"). Although it's good that the article has a number of citations, there are still many paragraphs that lack citations so some request for more citations still seems in order. However, if some of the uncited paragraphs have citations added, then the general message could be removed, although the {{fact}} tag could apply for paragraphs which still remain unsourced. Dear Dl2000, Thanks for your review of my post about this Spanish-American composer, from who there´s no much information on the net, and the one I find it's not exact. May be I wasn't close to Wikipedias policy writing, but I have never wanted to write a promotional entry. Anyway, I think that some of your changes need some fixes. Although I have done a hard working looking for cites, I will do my best during this week to look for further more, and I will come back with some suggestions to yours.

MariempugMariempug (talk) 20:45, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

I noticed you reverted my edit to Birdpur as an unreferenced nonimprovement. Did you check the text for the hidden comment noting the census search? If not, here it is; if you search for Birdpur you will see that there is not actually a single village in Siddharthnagar district with the name Birdpur, but twelve, each with a number following. There's no way to link directly to the search results unfortunately, but the information is available for you to check. ♠PMC(talk) 22:08, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

There's also this tool which lists villages by State> District > Sub-District. The sub-district is Naugarh, and if you set it to "show all" you can see the entire list showing all of the numbered Birdpur villages. ♠PMC(talk) 22:14, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
@Premeditated Chaos: Fair enough, however sources should be visible, not commented. But then again, the Firefox browser is warning that the census link you mentioned is a security risk. Google search also shows up to a number 14. Anyway, will see if I can clean that up. However, redlinks to each Birdpur number are probably not sufficiently supportable as separate articles.
The links provided are to the official Indian Census website; I've been using it for years and have never had an issue with it. Sources should normally be visible except on disambig/set index pages, per WP:DABREF, which is why I hid it in a comment. Assuming that the individual villages are legally recognized (and I've always taken inclusion in the census to mean that they are), they meet WP:GEOLAND, so they are eligible for individual articles under our current notability standards. (You're right about the total number though - the expanded list shows 14 where the search only gave me 12). ♠PMC(talk) 22:30, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
The state that the article is in right now is still misleading, as neither Birdpur nor Birdpore appear on the Indian census as anything like a town. All 14 of the entries for Birdpur are tagged in the census as villages. Even the source you cited does not refer to Birdpur as a town, but as a British estate. ♠PMC(talk) 22:33, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
@Premeditated Chaos: Under condtruction... Dl2000 (talk) 22:36, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

You have tagged this page as having only one reference. Many taxonomic stubs only have one reference and don't use {{onesource}}, and notability guidelines are met by WP:NSPECIES, and one reputable source, such as WoRMS, is enough to verify this. Also, many other potential references are listed in the taxonbar, which this article has two of at the bottom. If you really want to add one of these as a reference, please do (this is a more positive edit than adding {{onesource}}), and then the page will be referenced from more than one site. However, I don't think that this will add much value to the article. YorkshireExpat (talk) 12:04, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello,

I am working on improving the Indian Railways related pages especially routes and divisions. I edited and updated the entire Sealdah railway division page with the latest and proper information yesterday and today I find it completely reverted by you citing "rm excess linespacing; tidy" . I am hoping this was a mistake and hence have reverted back your last edit. Please let me know if that is not the case and if you would like to discuss this further.

Thanks, GoldenDragon2293Return (talk) 03:08, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

@GoldenDragon2293Return: Not sure what happened, but that edit was in error, probably opened a version that was too early or perhaps an extended edit conflict. Anyway, there seem to be no problems with your latest changes. Dl2000 (talk) 04:25, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Irish English tags

Good day Dl2000. I saw that you have added tags {{Hiberno-English}} or {{Irish English}} to some articles belonging to the WP:Wikiproject Ireland e.g. Alexander Stewart (1746–1831), Donn Óge Mag Oireachtaigh, and Gordon O'Neill. I am a bit confused about what is good practice here, or what does the MOS prescribe. I have the impression that MOS:TIES does indeed prescribe to use Irish English tags. It says "An article on a topic that has strong ties to a particular English-speaking nation should use the (formal, not colloquial) English of that nation." However, I also find that many (probably most) articles of WP:Wikiproject Ireland either have no Engvar tag or have {{Use British English}} or {{EngvarB}}. I ask because I mainly work on Irish subjects. Should I add {{Use Hiberno-English}} tags to all articles on Irish subjects and replace existing tags prescribing a different variety of English? It seems that not everybody agrees. User:Thomas Blomberg posted on Template_talk:Use_Hiberno-English that there is no Irish English spelling. Perhaps {{Use British English}} or {{Use Oxford English}} is good enough. Should all articles carry engvar tags? Is that prescribed somewhere? With many thank and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 21:25, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

@Johannes Schade: Been a bit busy but finally got to review this - the talk page on {{Use Hiberno-English}} (aka {{Use Irish English}}), the template easily survived a delete attempt in 2019, and the discussion from 7+ years ago disputing the existence of Irish/Hiberno English was an outlier, no support for that concept. There is an established article on Hiberno-English, distinct from other varieties. Differences with {{Use British English}} may be minor, but there are likely Irish wordings and syntax that would differ from UK English. Therefore, and hopefully to answer your question, it seems valid to apply the template for articles with subject matter that predomininantly belongs to Ireland. But there may be unclear or potentially controversial cases, such as for Northern Ireland (UK vs. Irish?) or mixed-nationality topics, but the {{EngvarB}} could be useful in such cases as it covers a much wider scope of non-US English usage. Also note the difference in template usage between {{Use Hiberno-English}} (used for articles) and {{Hiberno-English}} (used for talk pages). But when in doubt, such templates can be left out of an article, and perhaps have a later detailed review and/or discussion. Hope this helps. Dl2000 (talk) 21:08, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Dear Dl2000. Thanks for your carefully worded comments. I have the impression we are on slippery ground. Would you agree that the following is correct usage?
  1. When editing an Irish article tagged with {{Use Hiberno-English}}, {{Use British English}}, {{Use Oxford spelling}}, or {{EngvarB}}, leave that tag alone
  2. When editing an Irish article that has no engvar tag, add {{Use Hiberno-English}}
  3. When reviewing an Irish article tagged with {{Use Hiberno-English}}, {{Use British English}}, {{Use Oxford spelling}}, or {{EngvarB}}, do not discuss that tag
  4. When reviewing an Irish article that has no engvar tag, ask the nominator to add a tag chosen from {{Use Hiberno-English}}, {{Use British English}}, {{Use Oxford spelling}}, or {{EngvarB}}, if they ask for advise, recommend {{Use Hiberno-English}}.
With many thanks, Johannes Schade (talk) 17:01, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
@Johannes Schade: The points are generally reasonable, although to make the distinction clear, once the article is flagged as reviewed, reviewing ends and editing begins, and in reviewing stage (point 4), it may be more accurate to refer to the article creator rather than "nominator", unless this is referring to some other article process. Also, mixed-nationality articles would have to be treated on their merits e.g. is the subject mostly Irish in nature? {{EngvarB}} could be a lower common denominator tag in such cases. And again, when in doubt, the tag can always be left out until further assessment is made. Dl2000 (talk) 02:43, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Good day, Dl2000. Thanks for your discussion. Outside the reviewing process, changing the engvar must be approached with caution. If the article is still a stub, one might just go and boldly change the engvar. Beyond stub, surely consensus must be reached. I believe this means to ping the first 10 most involved editors, explain the envisaged change and its motivation. I usually give them a month to reply, but I am not sure what is considered appropriate. I have done this when changing citation style. If no reply or when all replies give consent, go ahead with the change. Any opposition means the status quo must be maintained. I must admit I have never changed an engvar, just seen other editors do it, boldly in all the cases I have seen. — When reviewing, the engvar needs to be defined if this has not already been done, as spelling is checked in any review whatever the level: PR, GA, A-Class, FA. The nominator will normally be the one who choses the engvar, perhaps another editor who takes part in the review process might intervene. The reviewer should not do so but might provide guidance. What do you think? Best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:47, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Loughborough College Wikipedia Page

Hi, On the 4th of March, you manually reverted some changes to the Loughborough College Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loughborough). The article currently has multiple issues, including the reliance on references to too many primary sources and written like an advertisement. The changes I made were to work towards fixing some of these issues by removing promotional content and rewriting parts of the article to be informative, neutral and reflective of Loughborough College's history, current situation, and future plans.

The intention is to continue enriching this page as we pull more information from the college's archives and the local council offices and reference some of the college's plans, such as the investment in new campus facilities and its planned educational programmes over the coming years. As someone who lives in Loughborough, where Loughborough College is based, I am interested in ensuring the article presented about the establishment and its rich history is both factually accurate and informative.

The notes you put on the reason for your change were "rv degradation of article contents, addition of promotional schoolspam", and this wasn't the case at all. The intention of the changes I made were quite the opposite.

Could you revert your manual change so that we can continue to build on this article about Loughborough College, or work with us to ensure that the changes we would like to implement are reviewed as positive and adding value to the article? As you can imagine, it is frustrating to have your work undone when trying to make changes for the better and with good intentions.

The edit of concern reduced the number of references from 21 to 10, while adding numerous paragraphs which should have had citations. Also, tf you are with the college, you need to carefully review WP:COI first. Dl2000 (talk) 02:47, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi, I thought I made it clear on the edit notes that I intended to come back and add the relevant citations and fix any broken links. My interest is in the area of Loughborough town of which Loughborough College is a part of. To be clear, I'm not a representative of the college or Loughborough University. My updates were intended to replace information that was outdated and also provide additional information about the college including some of its history.
Thank you for going through the article and removing content that was considered promotional/advertorial. Would you consider the article at a stage now where the multiple issues notices highlighted at the top of the page could be removed? What can I do to help with this? 2A00:23C7:D782:7F01:5D8E:44AB:99F8:B8EA (talk) 09:34, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
One of the sections I removed in my edits was about the college's Sixth Form. It says "The College's Sixth Form offers a wide range of GCSEs and A Levels. In 2012 (sic) 99% of the College's GCSE students gained passes overall, with students studying GCSEs in English Language, Maths, Biology, Science and ICT gaining a 100% pass rate. In the same year, over 98% of the College's A Level students achieved a pass and students in 15 subjects gained 100% pass rates." - 2012 was a decade ago and I wonder if it is still relevant? Suffice to say after checking the college's website again the college only provides Maths and English Language at GCSE level. The statistic also appears to be referenced in the Wikipedia article but doesn't seem to appear on the referenced page (https://www.loucoll.ac.uk/courses/gcses). It does offer 26 A Level subjects and a Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology and Level 3 Diploma in Financial Studies as part of its Sixth Form. Perhaps that section could be updated to reflect this? (https://www.loucoll.ac.uk/courses/a-levels) - I'm still finding my feet on how to properly edit and update Wikipedia articles without appearing to degrading or vandalise them so your help/advice on this is welcome. 2A00:23C7:D782:7F01:5D8E:44AB:99F8:B8EA (talk) 11:37, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Dl2000,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Hello, thanks for viewing the page Saleem Shehzad and pointing out a "citation needed" spot. I have cited the required references there but want to ask if a section is divided into 3 paragraphs (as is the "Early life and career" section of the said page) and the sources for whole of the section are cited only at the end of the last paragraph, is not it clear that they cover all the above paragraphs? or do we need to cite them at the end of each paragraph (as I have done now)? I would appreciate your guidance.Insight 3 (talk) 04:17, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

No need to worry, as there is no deadline to complete such a review. References seem to be in place, although there's always room for a few additional details. Hi Dl2000 (talk) Quick one sir, there’s a little mix up, I’m seeing “first like of Kogi state” instead of “first Lady of Kogi state” when you search Rashida Bello on Wikipedia, probably look like an error.

The Rashida Bello article doesn't have the "first like" phrasing - just First Lady, and Wikipedia search goes directly to the article, so not sure there is mix up - maybe that was an earlier error now fixed. Dl2000 (talk) 00:04, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Dl2000,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12239 articles, as of 14:00, 13 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

A tag has been placed on Category:Ryerson University alumni indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Notice

The article Alan Watts on Living has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While I verified that this program existed, I could not find significant coverage of the program and thus I do not think it passes WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Dl2000,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

The page BHALSE has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review. New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Dl2000,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.

Edith Collier updated page

Dear DI2000,

I recently underwent an internship at the Sarjeant Gallery in Whanganui New Zealand where I conducted thorough research into the gaps around Edith Collier's life story and art oeuvre. After speaking with Edith's living relations, reading through letters written by Edith previously undiscovered and cataloguing her personal library collection I am confident in my knowledge of Edith and was determined to rewrite her Wikipedia page, and in turn transform her previously negative and misrepresented narrative into a more positive one, as one of my project outputs. Everything I wrote was accurate and had been fact checked, so I am writing you to find out why a large section of this was removed by yourself?

Sincerely, Edith's loyal fan. 122.58.154.242 (talk) 03:24, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

While expanding Wikipedia articles is welcome, additions do need to meet various Wikipedia policies and guidelines. For example, a significant amount of text did not have proper sources/citations which explains their removal - see WP:RS. Also, some of that text seemed to be more opinionated than is warranted for a Wikipedia article, see WP:NPOV. Also, while what you wrote may be fact checked, the lack of supporting sources makes it difficult for others to confirm the text, please see WP:V for Wikipedia's Verifiability policy. Please take some time to review the mentioned various Wikipedia policies, and any other guidelines and policies which may apply. Dl2000 (talk) 21:54, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

I wanted to explain why I reverted your change to dmy. It was tagged as dmy in 2019 but was a stub that didn't even use any dating system in any capacity, not even in a reference. Japan does not use dmy or mdy (but does tend to use mdy when providing English versions of pages online) so there is no national tie to dmy, but as the first non-stub contributor that introduced dates, I do believe that mdy should be preserved per WP:DATERET, and not discarded just because of a drive-by tagging in 2019 on a stub that used no dates. - Aoidh (talk) 20:46, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

Nominated Sanand Mitra for deletion (which you flagged as possible advertising)

Hi I am a very new editor.. I went to edit (with an eye to improve and source) Sanand Mitra and I traced a good deal of the article back to a "self published marketing source." I outlined additional reasons why I think the article should be deleted. My first step was to remove marketing adjectives and then find sources; at least in my opinion the subject does not meet notability guidelines. I think the article was written for the purpose of marketing ventures of little impact or note. Flibbertigibbets (talk) 00:13, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

DMY dates

Hi,

You recently re-added the 'use DMY template' to the marquis of Elbeuf article I rewrote. This puzzles me, as to my knowledge there are no dates in the article that are formulated in a way other than DMY. Could you clarify what the issue here is. Thanks :)

Sovietblobfish (talk) 23:43, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

@Sovietblobfish: Per template documentation, it is not a cleanup request so it does not need to be removed once everything is in order. Dl2000 (talk) 23:49, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Would you mind if I removed it? It's a bit of a clutter at the top of the article, and given the article is all up to standard regarding dates, it doesn't serve much purpose Sovietblobfish (talk) 23:53, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Again, you can review the template documentation, it is not a cleanup request, it is generally accepted throughout the project, thus "clutter" does not seem to be a compelling deletion reason. Perhaps templates `could be better named to easily distinguish between cleanup requests and status indicators, etc.. Also another editor could drop by at a later date and add it back anyway. New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello Dl2000,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Wikipedia reviewer User:Onel5969 also gave the tag of Short description|Proposed Indian political alliance after I gave the citation for the first time. It is written in the article that Rahul Gandhi sent leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. M. Kharge was not leader of opposition in 2019, he became leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha in 2021. The current revision of the page (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Federal_Front&oldid=1135318668) contains wrong information. If the alliance was not materialized, how it can have AITC, AAP and TRS (BRS) as members? XYZ 250706 (talk) 12:07, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Change date format

Hello Dl2000,

Is there a reason behind the modification of date format (from mmddyyyy to ddmmyyyy) you made on several pages, such as Islam Makhachev [1]? Lilgreg97one (talk) 07:07, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

You'd have to ask those who are doing the actual modification. In the case of Islam_Makhachev, it seems to be a frequently edited article and there were recent deviations from format to clean up. For a reference point, see the version from over a year ago. Dl2000 (talk) 14:09, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

GX-2

hi @Dl2000, thanks for the note! I compared my changes + the original to verify. The only content I removed was headers + the {{cleanup reorganize}} tag which typically has to do with an unnecessary amount of headers. I merged the Design, Description, Engine, and Final Design headers since I think these are all related and splitting them up doesn't necessarily serve any purpose. In re: to your note about a deleted ref, all I did was move the YouTube ref to go under External Links since it's not considered a reliable source. The cleanup reorg tag had been there since 2017 so I went ahead and made it adhere more closely to wikipedia guidelines.

I hope you reconsider reverting my edits but understand if you do not. Was "cleanup reorg" without linking to the template the point of confusion? I do so many of these that I've just shortened it but can understand it would seem vague if you are not familiar with the tag.

Have a great evening! Puppies937 (talk) 00:54, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Delete

Hi I made propose to delete and made the correction because there are no Reliable soureses and some references links are not available. But the editor is Reverting it. Can u please check this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariq_Hisny

I've flagged Tariq Hisny for unreliable references and notability concerns. A few refs seem reliable, but doesn't seem to assert any significance such as charts or other news coverage. Dl2000 (talk) 01:13, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Regarding undisclosed payment tag on Vineet Kumar Chaudhary page

Respected Sir, I can't understand why this tag has been put on this page. In fact, before this page came to the mainspace, it has been discussed on the helpdesk that there is no direct relation with Chaudhary. I have prepared this page on the basis of a fan, I have seen his TV show, so I know a lot of information about his life. Please consider removing this tag. thank You Wiki97828 (talk) 08:42, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

@Wiki97828: Not sure where on the "helpdesk" this discussion took place. But your talk page still seems to have an open discussion about this with @Onel5969: that should be resolved first. You may also want to consider Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Dl2000 (talk) 20:47, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Mass scale vandalism

A user is doing mass scale unexplained reverting of other editors' edits in the pages: Paite language, Churachandpur, Hmar people, Thadou people. At first, I used to undo some of them but I think I need help from some experienced anti-vandal wiki users. The reverting adds a lot of un-referenced unverified information to the articles. Thanks! Datefix.js is unmaintained from 2011?

@Dl2000 Wikipedia:Date formattings

ays it is unmaintained. Is it true?s

@రుద్రుడు: That particular script indeed had no major update since 2011; it should be considered historical and research material. It is preferable to use a more up-to-date script listed there such as MOSNUM dates.js by @Ohconfucius:. Dl2000 (talk) 02:17, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Good mornin

Good morning, my friend, have a good day, Your Honor. You mentioned in an article that I wrote, so you told me to rewrite it so that it fits with the encyclopedia. It is possible, after you weigh it, to put it in any place you want to rewrite. Please link the article Thank you for making it a happy assumption. 23:20, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Jimmy Yelzer (talk) 23:20, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Inquiry into "Northern Access Network" article

Hi Dl2000,

I'm writing to you because I'm working on a project about public access and pirate television and have been reading, consequently, about the Northern Access Network that operated in Canada in the 1970s. I noticed you made the Wikipedia article for NAN, and supplied David Brough's birthdate. I would like to get in touch with him. Do you happen to have any information on this?

Thank you so much. Autopoetic (talk) 04:25, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

@Autopoetic: Unfortunately I have no contact information. Dl2000 (talk) 23:22, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Dates

Hi:

Why change date format like October 29, 2012 into 29 October 2012, both are equally valid? Pierre cb (talk) 22:11, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
