Strauß

Hello James. I'm surprised to see that you restarted the requested move at Talk:Franz Josef Strauß. I think that this shouldn't have happened before a month or two had past since the canvass. Regards, Húsönd 02:37, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

For what it is worth James, while the initial closure struck me as unfortunate, I agreed with you and after many disagreed with the closure you opened it up again after a few days, as was proper on a consensus based project (whether those asking for the re-opening were too hasty is for them to decide, not you IMO). I don't see anything wrong in your actions and do not feel you have anything to regret or feel embaressed or such over. Infact I admire that you were willing to override your own previous decision when people asked. Hope the experience doesn't sour you to the understaffed WP:RM. A request for your consideration regarding CAT:AOTR

...My guinea pigs and the "A"s through "H"s having felt this message was OK to go forward with (or at least not complained bitterly to me about it :) ), today it's the turn of the "I"s, "J"s, and "K"s! I'm hoping that more of you chaps/chapettes will point to their own criteria instead of mine :)... it's flattering but a bit scary! :) Also, you may want to check back to the table periodically, someone later than you in the alphabet may have come up with a nifty new idea. ++Lar: t/c 20:21, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Response to a vandal revert

No... its not quite vandalism. Vandalism would be if I made up stuff, much like your run of the mill retar... I mean born agains do. I just pointed out that they are an extreme minority, even here in the US, and that most sane people don't like them. Thought it made the article better myself. And by the way, I'm flattered you care enough to follow my edits on two seperate articles. Cheers —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.144.161.219 (talk) 09:05, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually adding the text "However, those in the know know that they all did it for the lulz!" most certainly is vandalism. James086Talk | Email 09:19, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:GEM Monopoly box.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GEM Monopoly box.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 15:18, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Copy of Deleted Article Sri Asaramayan

Hi James,

Can you please provide me the copy of the deleted article Sri Asaramayan. I was away on holidays and couldn't get a chance to see and reply to the discussions of deletion of that article. I am yet to ask the administrator who deleted the article as well. But in the mean time if I can get the copy from you, it will be great.

Thanks Rohit (talk) 16:14, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Barrachois Harbour Yacht Club

Hi James. I'm getting ready to reinstate the Barrachois Harbour Yacht Club entry if you don't mind, with complete information on why we're significant, I can send you four or five articles about our Club from Atlantic Boating News (www.atlanticboatingnews.com) When I launched the page this past summer, we were at sea on vacation and really didn't have time/opportunity to perhaps go into depth as much as I could have. (i.e.- SUPERB hurricane hole, as evidenced by Hurricanes Gustav (2002) and Hurricane Juan (2003), which pretty much destroyed marinas in Halifax and Pictou, Nova Scotia and two marinas in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Our Club burgee has been added to Yacht Club page as an example because New York Yacht Club yanked theirs over copyright issues. Not a problem with us, as I designed the Burgee and released it to the public domain.

Discussion would be most welcome. Thank you!

The image Image:Antistatic-mat.gif that you uploaded was licensed (an image license says where and under what conditions the image may be used) only for use on Wikipedia. While this may seem an appropriate way to license images, Wikipedia aims to be reusable so that it could be printed by someone or put on disc etc. That means that an image permitted for use on Wikipedia could not be reproduced. Also, while Wikipedia isn't commercial, images that aren't permitted for commercial use aren't allowed either because it is designed to be re-usable by anyone, even if that is for commercial gains.
In order to use an image on Wikipedia, there may only be a few restrictions on its re-use. It would be hard to explain, so I will provide examples of licenses that are allowed, hopefully this will make it easier to understand:
    • Public domain: This means the image is completely free, the person who made it has released all rights so that anyone can use it for any purpose with no restrictions.
    • Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY): Anyone can use it for any purpose, the only condition is that the original author of the image must be credited.
    • Creative Commons Attribution Sharealike (CC-BY-SA): Anyone can use it for any purpose, the only conditions are that the original author of the image must be credited and when re-used it must be under the same license. This means you can't edit the picture and then make it copyright.
These are the preferred licenses, and while there are more, they are very similar to these in conditions. If you own the rights to the image, then you may license it under one of these licenses (or similar)and it can be uploaded to Wikipedia. If you do not, you could take a photo of an antistatic mat and license it as you choose. I hope it's not too much to take in, I was very confused at first, but I now find myself explaining licensing to many others. If you have more questions feel free to ask. Deletion of page about Loyola College

Hi there. A page about Loyola College i recently created has been deleted. I read the reason but didnt understand very well. I Would appreciate it if you could explain for me. I would be happy to fix the problem or remove what ever it was from the article that may have been innapropriate to wikipedia guide lines =) thanks

By the way i tried to include the source which was a link to the school website but i dont think i did it right... please help

School now has a source

Hi James 086. The Loyola college home page has now been added as a source. I'm not sure how the message at the top saying it doesnt cite any refrences can be removed but i assume someone will. By the way can you tell me why the page appears differently to most other wiki pages. I cant quite pin point its exact difference but somehow it appears unique as if missing certain default features found on other pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ADude8 (talkcontribs) 11:48, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Admin Coaching Re-confirmation

Hello, previously you expressed interest in participating in the Wikipedia:Admin coaching project. We are currently conducting a reconfirmation drive to give coaches the opportunity to update their information and capacity to participate in the project. Please visit Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Status to update your status. Also, please remember to update your capacity (5th table variable) in the form of a fraction (eg. 2/3 means you are currently coaching 2 students, and could accept 1 more student). Thank you. MBisanz talk 09:04, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

*wave* Hi! :D

Hi! I was recently paired with you by User:Mbisanz for admin coaching. I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am currently a junior year undergrad student majoring in mechanical engineering. I first joined Wikipedia in 2006, but didn't actively edit until October of last year.

In January, I was nominated for adminship, but for several reasons, including only being active for three months (which technically really would have been four months), I did not show enough experience to the editors to get the mop. I was recommended to receive admin coaching, so here I am!  :-)

I'd like to work on narrowing down different WP:CSD categories (especially when some new articles fall into multiple categories), how to effectively proceed with AfDs (how to AfD an article with NPOV, judging objectively, properly keeping discussions civil, and possibly close AfD discussions), and properly participate in wiki IRC to interact with more editors to gain more experience.

I currently work on WP:NPP using WP:FRIENDLY (I can tag articles, but I can't seem to find where to click to send the generic welcome user-talk template) in conjunction with WP:TWINKLE. In addition, I patrol articles on several categories with WP:AWB, including typo fixes, fixing formatting errors, tagging proper project banners, etc. I also manage the WikiProject Universities Collaborations of the Fortnight as well as managing most of WikiProject Robotics.

I was also recommended by another editor recently to perhaps begin to create new articles in my field of interest on WP:RA. Although I love the sound of that, I keep finding wonderful existing articles in my fields of interest including robotics, mechanical engineering, and others. Any help in narrowing down which topics I should start articles on would also be great.

I understand this is a lot to ask of you, and seeing that you already have two other students, I know I'll be stretching you very thin, but I'll be stretched thin as well. My academic studies in conjunction with the fast approach to my senior year academic design project that is required to complete for my bachelors degree, I'll have a lot of time before I will even think of accepting another RfA nomination at least until May, if not later, so I hope in the several months to come, I may learn much from you. Anyways, a brief bio including a link to my previous RfA is on my userpage, which feel free to browse around! I look forward in learning from you! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 09:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Point of clarification: James086 has volunteered a capacity of 0/1. If you two hit it off, he'll be at 1/1. That was just an example above. MBisanz talk 10:27, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

First thing to ask... haha

Hey! How's it going? I'm in a bit of a bind here. I'm trying to see if I can settle this proposed change of the WikiProject Universities infobox (discussion here). I really don't see how changing fields (and particularly, the chain reactions the proposed changes will affect) will help the WikiProject. I've just started an informal voting to get a jist of what the general vibe from the editors is. Personally, I'm against this change, but I just can't find the proper words to convince them that the problem right now is the editor who inputted the data into the article in the first place may have made errors and it is not the fault of the infobox necessarily.

  • Oppose: current system has made adaptations to accommodate a majority of university articles on Wikipedia. Main argument at the moment revolves around few articles with specific needs that can be solved with simple line breaks (<br />). Although pointing out weaknesses in wiki templates is encouraged to provide better revisions of current standards, this particular string of edits does not seem very constructive to the WikiProject. Making changes that affects the thousands of article this WikiProject affects based off of few individual articles shows the unwillingness of the original nominator's inflexibility and lack of knowledge in infoboxes themselves. No offense or anything. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 01:00, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm seriously thinking someone's going to whack me with a WP:CIVIL bat, so I was wondering if I could get a second opinion (you know, the third person always sees the clearest?), refining my wording, perhaps you might understand where I'm coming from and identify the thing I cannot put into words for some reason. Any help would be great! Thanks! (Oh yeah, if you're on AIM, my s/n is "Jameson L Tai"...yeah I know, not very creative. hahah) - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 01:00, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Your CSD Essay

It's really nice and provides some pretty good insights to some of my CSD discussions. A couple of questions though...

  • G4: If the article was speedy deleted before, can I nominate for CSD G4?
  • Articles with titles that does not correspond with the article whatsoever, what should I do with those?

Thanks for your help with this. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 02:18, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, User:Chris Rodgers has expressed some concerns over the deletion of an article I tagged last night. You were the deleting administrator and I would like you to take a look his arguments on my talk page and contact him if necessary. I have already left him a friendly message about the deletion process.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 23:32, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

TWW's response was helpful and a worthy example for wiki discussion, but my reply on his talk page explains in clear detail why the article did not qualify for a speedy kill (as opposed to even a rewrite or VfD tag). Anticipating also your significance comment above, it also explains why the article is significant. Especially as fast as new articles fly by these days now, I take you at your word when you say above that you're capable of mistakes like the rest of us. If you want to suggest points for improvement, I'm open to them, but it is/was definitely not the advertising/non-encyclopedic speedy-delete material that G11 provides for, and I'd appreciate your reviewing my comment there and restoring the thing. Thanks. Chris Rodgers (talk) 01:21, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

AFDs...

So I've closed the second and third one... The first one's kind of tricky. So I'll need a little bit more time to work this one out. I've got loads of research and assignments due this week, including my junior engineer design poster presentation on Friday's Senior Engineering Design Showcase. I'll try to do the first one some time within a day or so. Sorry for taking so long. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:27, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Maserati MC12

I was reading over your great work on the Maserati MC12 featured article, and I noticed it needs a bit of updating, at least for the MC12 GT1. Most everything seems to stop during the middle of the 2006 season, or at least I think it does. The final paragraph caught me off guard since it claims their drivers finished 5th and 7th, yet Bartels and Bertolini actually did win the 2006 championship. I assume when you wrote that, the team had merely won the teams championship and had yet to secure the drivers championship?

Anyway, I figured it'd be good to come to you before attempting to write not only about the 2007 FIA GT season, but also preperations for 2008 as well as what eventually happened to the Doran Maserati in ALMS. The source I had provided for that needs to be replaced as well since the-paddock.net has since shut down. The359 (talk) 21:23, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

More Maserati MC12

I'll try and offer what I can to the article, especially regarding 2007 and plans for 2008. Also, since I found some CC pictures on Flickr earlier today, I was wondering if you think that this picture might be better for tha article than the one already in use. It's the same team from the same season, but I think the first picture is much clearer, and is a nice 3/4th shot so you can see most all of the car. It also fills the picture more than the current picture. The359 (talk) 03:44, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

DragonHorse

I'm sorry, it's a well known fact they cannot play live. They had even admitted to it. Theyre a studio band. While most of what I did was vandalism, it is true that they cant play live. 74.12.218.22 (talk) 13:33, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

If you can provide a reliable source then you can add the information to the article. Something like "Dragonforce have been criticised for their live performances being out of time..." or something like that with a link to where somebody says it. Just adding your own opinion (along with "Dragonhorse") is not useful. James086Talk | Email 13:36, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Half the stuff on this site doesn't even have reliable sources, or links pointing to some evidence anyway. But sorry to have bothered you, I was bored and sick of hearing that they're "amazing"... By the way, would a youtube vid of them live count? 74.12.218.22 (talk) 13:39, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Not really because it doesn't actually have anyone saying that their performance was bad (some people might consider that performance good). If you could find a review of one of their shows or perhaps a review of a music festival that they performed at which has a quote that would be perfect. Yes a lot of the stuff on Wikipedia is without sources but it is slowly getting there. For example the number of Featured Articles is increasing at a rate greater than 1 per day and the sourcing in those must be excellent for them to pass. Maserati MC12 updated

After much delay by, well, my own racing on the PS3, I've finally had a chance to take a stab at updating the MC12's racing history. Added several citations to the section on Doran's two races, as well as correcting some of the information on FIA GT in 2007 (mostly regarding JMB's entering the Citation Cup). Also have the list of drivers and teams for 2008. Feel free to change it as you feel necessary to better fit the article. The359 (talk) 22:50, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, I wonder if some mention should be made of the pre-season testing carried out by Maserati/Ferrari in preparing the GT1? Dailysportscar has lots of news archives from 2004 regarding the development of the MC12 as well as test drivers, modifications, teams, and the debate regarding the legality of the cars. The359 (talk) 22:59, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Adeyto

Can you please userfy this page, I found some sources but am unfamiliar with the previous content to know if I can improve the article or not. --I Write Stuff (talk) 12:42, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I think you are right, with all of the present drama I think it is a bit naive of me to assume he would take it any other way and I should have taken Bigtime's advice. I db-self'd the article. If she is notable I am sure someone else over time will have it undeleted and work on it. Thank you for your assistance none-the-less and sorry for wasting your time. --I Write Stuff (talk) 14:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
hi James086, I was just hoping that more editors will have the chance to see that the Adeyto article wasn't a hoax and that it wasn't either spam nor selling anything but informative and verifiable. With your new deletion, an objective opinion won't be possible. May I remind you one of Wikipedia's basic rules: If an article currently does not cite reliable secondary sources, that does not necessarily mean that its topic is spam or advertisement or not notable. If the content currently isn't, can it be made so? If the topic isn't, can it be made so? For articles of unclear notability, deletion should be a last resort. Tsurugaoka (talk) 14:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
The problem I see is that the article mainly links back to Adeyto, and reads more like a list of every time the person appeared on TV, instead of starring roles which I could not find. Yes they are on IMDB, yes they have been in a lot of movies, but as extra's, not the star, which makes it a pain to formulate a serious article. There is also a lot of talk about doing a video for other people, but those people are not notable, or at least do not contain articles themselves on Wikipedia so we can state, ok they are a music video producer for the stars, like Hype Williams. --I Write Stuff (talk) 16:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)--I Write Stuff (talk) 16:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
There is something like culture difference between your (occidental?) way of classifying her works and our Japanese way. Yes she was main actress in a couple of Japanese dramas (for example when she played Marilyn Monroe) or in the film Silver Kamen that is the last art work of the recently deceased Jissoji Akio, a cult director in Japan. She had supportive, memorable or key roles in many of the dramas and films. Nevertheless it is almost impossible for a foreign actor to play the main character in a Japanese drama so even cameo appearences are quite respected. We here never consider that as -extra- especially not when actor's name appears on the credits.
I do agree though that a mere list of roles isn't too useful for anyone outside Japan and it is true that the article needs elaborate information about the actual roles. I hope that this section will grow in time, myself included will research and add data. Tsurugaoka (talk) 11:30, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
It seems that the article will be restored anyway (Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 April 30) so I will let that be the process of restoration. There were a lot of links to cafepress (a website aimed at selling calendars for Adeyto), definitely qualifying as spam links (not necessarily the whole article) and the notability wasn't clear. I'm not saying the initial deletion was correct, in fact I haven't even checked whether it was correct but my deletion was because the user requested that a subpage of theirs be deleted. The article can be restored to the mainspace like it would have been if I hadn't userfied it, if the admin closing the DRV doesn't know how to do this I can show them. James086Talk | Email 01:50, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Please take a look at the article, it's now on my talk page. I happen to come across it when I_Write_Stuff had it on his page for few minutes. I searched like mad for the CafePress Calendar selling links and I couldn't find ANY. So I will politely beg the participants in this discussion to refrain from this accusation. I never saw those links in this artist's Wikipedia anyway. Yes there is one on artist's Official Site but that is absolutely standard and only a fool could blame them for that.
One last comment to the over-discussed pictures, they aren't simple pictures of that person, they all are artworks as in self-portraits and as far as I understood self-designed (costumes, paintings) therefore I support keeping as many as needed, just like we would keep Van Gogh's self-portrait on his Wikipedia article, please excuse my comparison and no need to attack me for this but I just want to make clear my idea. Thank you for understanding Tsurugaoka (talk) 11:30, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't know. It doesn't matter because you need to provide a reliable source to add info like that. James086Talk | Email 12:36, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Reaper episode list

To clarify: this is in regards to the edit you "undid" of mine which was undoing an edit. for reference your edit and his will be referred to edit A mine and the original edit B. A vandal (you can see his IP address) changed the page to include graphic words (read- genitalia). He/she also changed the finale episode summary to read three words repeated over. And the edit he made which i corrected and you reverted also included information that was false.

The episode hinted at that, but it was never explicitly said. meaning, it's not true. Once it airs, if it is true, feel free to change it if you so desire. However, putting anything like that would be considered spoiling(if it's true and it's put out there before the episode airs). The episode the vandal put it under was the past episode but like I said, it wasn't proven. Therefore it shouldn't be on wiki- after all this is supposed to be facts no?

That's fine. Sorry about that I go defensive- I thought you were upset about the other episode change :) where i took out some more of that :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coolceruleanblue (talkcontribs) 07:39, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi! Your a total flamer why would you say that my edit wasn't constructive. I do believe that my point that it was a terrible movie is very credible just watch it, terrible. Christopher Cain should give up directing and you know it nobody even knows he exists. try to find his wiki page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pol pot hates hitler (talkcontribs) 13:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It should not include the personal opinion of people who haven't had that opinion published by a reliable source. That would mean a film review or magazine article. Also asking rhetorical questions is not encyclopedic so should not be included either. James086Talk | Email 13:17, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Question to a Seasoned WikiMaster

I'm a nubie at this WikiWorld and want to get better at it. I started my first stub article that was immediately flagged as having too promotional tone. I then went and double checked, made some edits to make sure it had just the straight facts, but the flag is still there. What can I do?

Thanks Jamees086!

Hi there, Some help advice if possible :o) I'm new to Wikipedia but have many years experience of designing speed sensors for trains. I agree that the article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wheel_speed_sensor is well written and accurate. But I think it's in the wrong place. Although similar sensors are used in automotive applications, this article is really about their use on trains. "Categories: Automotive safety technologies | Speed sensors" really doesn't seem to fit. A lot of people have contributed to this so I'm not going to just leap in. Any advice? Thanks JohnMontenegroman (talk) 16:13, 25 June 2008 (UTC))

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Halowars combat.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Halowars combat.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:19, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Deletion?

Hi James i'm asking you why i got a new message saying I made/edited the page Muzza that doesn't exist, sorry but i haven't edited any pages.

Kind Regards, Carl

You are probably using an IP address that was assigned to someone else previously. They would have edited that page (which has since been deleted) but moved on before receiving the message. It's perfectly normal to have the same IP address as someone else, some companies have thousands of people on one IP address. You don't need to worry about it because it wasn't intended for you. Thanks, James086Talk | Email 16:04, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

my page got deleted im sure u get this all the time

hi im sure you get some person who made a stupid group complain about this all the time but im hoping the fact that well lets see my names james i love halo 3 (im a brig) the fact that i am a major car enthousiest ( have an infiniti 96 g20 which i work on a little as well as my pride and joy my 88 5 speed merkur x4ti rally car which i love to drive)anyway i am a member of the band Umlaut an up and coming band that consist of my friends and some other members. we recently made a profile ( i dont know another term for it) telling about our band and our styles and things of those nature which were all backed up by multiple people when the profile was threatend by deletion by a Nyttend for not having any "importance" i contested the deletion and provided ligitiment reasons not to delete the page. there were also several post made by people who have heard the band and support sources provided that helped contest the deletion in the short hour or so that the page existed if there was more time i beleive that there would have been more. I would simply like to ask what was so unreasnibal about the artical to the exstent it didnt serve a purpose there for needed to be deleted, even when theres articals about MILFS on this site that have no support. so in the future i may rewrite the givin page to be more sutibal to Nyttend aparently high standards thank you James Sarley —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamessarley (talkcontribs) 06:05, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
