I noticed this article after you added it to the template Modernarch. I am very impressed, and hope you continue working on it to the point of featured article. Two things to take in mind though is it does not have footnotes or references the addition of which will greatly improve the article. Let me know if there is anything I can help with in finding your way around Wikipedia. Regards, DVD+ R/W 20:17, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to second that - fantastic work - maybe you'd be interested in joining the Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture, Kind regards --Mcginnly | Natter 23:15, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:P golosov pravda.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:P golosov pravda.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. JeremyA 17:28, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chernikov image

[edit]

Hi Owen, nice to see you've returned and are working on the refs. Take another look at Image:Chernikhov hammer&sickle.jpg, esp. the talkpage. Jmabel proposed that this might be {{PD-Russia}} which would be an improvement on the licensing. If it makes sense, please change the template to this. Regards, DVD+ R/W 19:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'm glad that is settled. At some point I'm going to move the public domain ones to the Commons (or you can do that if you want) so that they can be more easily used in articles in other languages. DVD+ R/W 19:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you again but could you take another look at Image:Vesnin-pravda-s.jpg and other pics you've uploaded to see if they are PD-Russia and retemplate them? I'll bring them over to the Commons tonight, I'm eager to see Russian versions of these articles. DVD+ R/W 20:15, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And two more tips for now: try to minimize the lists - as they are unneccessary once the figures are already mentioned or linked in the text (but like a grocery list, if it is helpful in organizing use it - remembering though that it is not itself what you are after); and expand the lead section. Happy editing, DVD+ R/W 20:57, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Constructivism

[edit]

Hi Owen, no problem - I'll be adding some more as and when I find them. I wonder if we should give a brief introductory contextual paragraph, rather than starting the article in 1919 with the tatlin tower. Frampton gives a quite a good write up of pre-constructivist russia context so I might add that. I've also been doing some wider reading - my excellent "dictionary of modern thought" portrays constructivism (include art rather than just architecture) as

"applied a three-dimensional cubist vision, inspired by the sculptor Alexander Archipenko and Picasso's reliefs of 1912-1914, first to wholly abstract non-objective 'constructions' within a kinetic element (1914-1920) and thereafter to the new social demands and industrial tasks of the time. It was thus made up of two threads 1) the concern with space and rhythym expressed by Anton Pevsner's and Naum Gabo's Realist manifesto and 2) a tussle within the Education Commissariat between supporters of 'pure art' and a more socially-oriented group headed by Alexei Gan, Alexander Rodchenko and his wife Varvara Stepanova who wanted this art to be absorbed in industrial production.

The "tussle" is implicit in the article so far, but perhaps we should make it more overt. A mention of the Proletkult would be useful too I think. --Mcginnly | Natter 19:24, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Owen, did you know that you can get new articles such as these [1][2] put on the main page? Simply follow the instructions at Template talk:Did you know and list the article there suggesting a fact from the article and perhaps an image. Let me know if you would like any help with this. One tip is to use a few inline cites in each article, one per paragraph if possible. D. Recorder 20:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well Owen, I went ahead and added a few cites to both articles and nominated them for DYK. Feel free to edit or rewrite either my additions to the articles or the nomination "hooks", which can be found here Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created_on_May_25 and Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created_on_May_27. Unspecified source for Image:Van_nelle.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Van_nelle.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC). Fair use rationale for Image:Melnikov_paris_pavilion.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Melnikov_paris_pavilion.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. A request

[edit]

Hey Owen, I read on your blog that you just went on holiday- welcome back. I really like your blog by the way, your blog and BLDGBLOG have me wanting to start my own. Well, since you've done such a splendid job on constructivism related articles, I was wondering if you would take a look at VKhUTEMAS again, and edit as you see fit. I expanded it a bit a few weeks ago, and made a similar request of NVO last week, who just added quite a bit. Maybe you have a few paragraphs you can add? D. Vkhutemas tubular chair

[edit]

Hello Owen, I have a quick question. I was wondering if you had anymore information about the chair in this picture Image:Vkhutein.jpg, namely who the designer was and in which studio at the school it was designed. Many thanks, D. Recorder 19:19, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Owen, and good choice for the lead image. Adding refs is vital if the article is going to make Featured article—which gets the article reviews while it is a candidate and more exposure by placing it on the main page for a day. Much of it is referenced already, so a few statements that aren't are fine, but the more references the better. I'm drafting paragraphs for the art and furniture departments, which is what the article needs next imo, and I should have something posted today. I'm finding it difficult as this seemed very multidisciplinary and the faculty very versatile, so that might be the focus of what I end up writing. Feel free to add ideas or contribute to this. By the way, do you know if the Obmokhu exhibition, whose picture you uploaded here was held at Vkhutemas? I found one source and one only that says it is. [3] But no where else says where it was held. If it is said elsewhere or you know that it was at Vkhutemas, maybe that would be good to include. So far I've just focused on the writing of this article and not pictures, so thats something else to think about. Anyways, thanks, D. Recorder 20:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vkhutemas FAC

[edit]

Hi Owen, I submitted Vkhutemas to FAC if you hadn't noticed. I find FAC to be an exhilarating process, I hope you don't mind and you enjoy it too, since you also contributed to this article. Feel free to comment there [4] and continue editing the article. A reviewer brought one item to my attention that I wanted to ask you about, and I had one other similar question myself. From the section on the basic course, 1) the maximul - is maximul the correct word and should it be spelled maximal? I also noticed that each of these has a course description followed by the instructor, but 8) doesn't have the description. Did you accidentally omit it? And if so can you provide it? Many thanks, D. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ASNOVA kitchen.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ViperSnake151 13:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

El Lissitzky FAR

[edit]

Hello Owenhatherley, I was wondering if you might want to help out with the El Lissitzky article, a featured article from some time ago that is currently looking at being delisted.[5] What it seems like it needs is refs. I am going to try to add a few this weekend if I can. But I thought you might be interested in helping this article. Yours truly, dvdrw 19:50, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Bevin court stairway.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Bevin court stairway.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 10:43, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Suetin.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Suetin.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:28, 1 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:28, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Scharoun_Siemensstadt.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:15, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File:Nikolaev communal.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Nikolaev communal.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Owenhatherley}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 03:11, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
