March 2012

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. TJRC (talk) 00:58, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Had you not reverted, in a way I cannot see the original comment on said talk page, I could correct whatever you claimed. However, that was several days ago and my "photographic memory" has been fogged by many passes through airport security checkpoints. Could you, perhaps, be more specific? I only recall mentioning two scenarios in the talk page, in response to another editor's postulation. I do not wish to "re-offend", hence, I ask for specifics so that I can avoid such things erased in the future.Wzrd1 (talk) 05:17, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
The standard warning templates, such as the one above, point you to the page; looking at the history (which you can see by clicking on "the History" tab) will show you a list of changes, including yours. TJRC (talk) 21:51, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Your addition to Touch (2012 TV series) has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. --Drmargi (talk) 06:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I was unaware that the episode descriptions were copyrighted. I merely noticed that the episode descriptions were removed and no entry on the talk page was made. So, I revered it, with a talk page description. If that materiel is copyrighted, the deletion is warranted and I offer my thanks.Wzrd1 (talk) 14:49, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Retigabine

Hi Wzrd1! Thanks for your interesting addition to the page Retigabine. Please don't copy text from other websites to Wikipedia, as this constitutes a copyright violation; use your own wording instead. Thanks, ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 11:14, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

As the page that had text copied from is a US Government public notice, it is public domain.Wzrd1 (talk) 18:15, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
My apologies. I couldn't (and, to tell the truth, still can't) find that site's copyright notice; but if this is the US government's policy, there was of course no copyright violation. I still think the changed wording is better. – It sounds strange if, halfway through an article about an anti-seizure drug internationally called "retigabine", a sentence starts with "FDA is warning the public that the anti-seizure medication Potiga (Ezogabine)...", repeating what has been stated right at the beginning all over again. The next sentence, "FDA does not currently know..." begs the question "Then who else does?".
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing you. My point is what a fellow editor told me some years ago: Copypasting is always the worst option, because the pasted text practically never fits into the article's text flow. To create (or contribute to) a really good article, remember it is part of an encyclopaedia (as opposed to a news article, a blog, etc.), and it is án article (as opposed to a collection of sentences).
Happy editing! --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 19:06, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Any improvement of my contribution is welcome, truthfully, I'm rubbish at prose. I had went to the Wikipedia article after receiving the FDA notice in my e-mail and noticed no mention of the warned of side effect and added as best I could do. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to add in the reference, which further side tracked me from trying to improve on the copy and pasted text. So, thanks for the help in prose.Wzrd1 (talk) 19:19, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

The Second Amendment

I know you wanted me to sandbox my suggestions. I'm not sure how to do that as the sandbox, it says, is wiped clean every 12 hours. If you know how to create a more permanent sandbox, I'm all ears.

As for now, you can find my suggestions in my many various attempts to edit the article and in detailed comments on the talk page dating back to March. You and others do seem to make it clear that it is too complicated to suggest 8 changes at once. So I'm currently going very slowly now and doing it one by one for ease of reference.

I also just now posted this on the talk page, but I thought you might not see it so I'm reposting it here:

You wrote some interesting things in response to me, but they were unsourced. When we do get to other disputes (which I'm tabling for now so as to resolve them one by one), I would appreciate if you would cite sources. Your own knowledge appears to be prodigious, but unless your claims are sourced, I cannot evaluate their accuracy.

My first claim -- that the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment is limited -- appears to have been accepted in the article. After all, even Heller accepted that the right is currently limited. (We had a nice description of the Heller decision in March that was unfortunately thrown away). You appear to claim that there was a time in early American history when the Second Amendment right to bear arms was unlimited. If you want to put that claim in the body of the article, I have no problem with it, as long as it is accompanied by a reliable source.

As for the characterization of Miller in the 1980 SCOTUS case of Lewis v. United States, you can find the quoted language in footnote 8.

Cheers and thanks for being respectful.GreekParadise (talk) 21:18, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I Spit .....

I tried my best, which is why I requested a copy edit from Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. Hopefully, that will help. Remember, Wikipedia's policy about a plot summary has to be about within 400-700 words. When you clean things up, make sure you didn't go overboard. Wikipedia is not a substitute to the original. A film plot should meant as an overview. --NeoBatfreak (talk) 04:43, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Rand Paul Plagiarism

Hello Wizrd1, I appreciate your warning about neutrality, but I hope you are also aware of the Law of False equivalences. In an attempt to not take sides, the current text about this issue is more concerned about not favoring one side than it is about objective truth. The evidence is so overwhelming that Rand Paul has plagiarized MANY times (nearly EVERY day we are getting a new example if not multiple examples of this plagiarism), that objective truth is that he plagiarized. Now, all truths are subject to revision if other information comes to light (see Newton's Theory of Gravity), but that does not mean that you can't say anything about something because it could later, improbably, turn out to be at least partially incorrect.

And just so I cite someone else when I attempt to stake this position, this is what the journalism Professor at Rand Paul's college said about the unambiguous plagiarism of Rand Paul.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/journalism-professor-would-flunk-rand-paul-for-an-unambiguous-case-of-plagiarism

And the conservative Washington Times has ended Rand Paul's column in the Washington Times after "Sen. Rand Paul acknowledged Tuesday that he had failed to properly source material in published writings, including a column in The Washington Times"

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/nov/5/washington-times-ends-sen-rand-paul-column-amid-pl/

So I hope I would now have permission to edit the watered down text that does not report the objective truth. Jeffwinchell (talk) 03:50, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Wow! You did stew on it for a bit. Good on you for thinking about it for a while, cooling off and all. True, he plagiarized to beat the band, however, in an encyclopedia article, one reports the facts, not introduces an opinion on the facts. Frankly, I found the entire episode hilarious. Especially when the idiot mentioned dueling, which I promptly called him on, both from a state/federal law perspective, my own state law perspective and accepted his challenge. Duly reminding him that as the challenged, I got first choice in weapons.  ;)
More seriously, it comes down to writing the article in an NPOV perspective, especially when one disagrees with the idiot. As an example, there was a disagreement on the 2013 Egyptian coup d'état, some disagreed to the term coup d'état. While, I did agree with the populace, the reality is that the military accomplished the removal of the president. Hence, it is a coup d'état, by definition of the term. Regardless of how I feel, my opinion of the government that was removed, etc. And I'm rather biased, as I personally know quite a few Egyptians quite well personally. So, I stick with established facts, definitions, policies and remain neutral.
A neutral view also works when evaluating one's own position in a domestic spat. Consider both sides from a neutral view, the asshole loses. I'll not divulge how many times I lost or how many times I chose a different battle. I'll only suggest neutrality view is extremely valuable in life. :D Wzrd1 (talk) 05:30, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

A television series is not a fictional state

I am unable to understand your reversions of two of my edits. The category is for articles that are about fictional US states. You have re-added two articles that are about television series. A television series that exists is not a fictional anything, let alone a fictional television series. There is no rational reason for including real things in categories for fictional things. Jerry Pepsi (talk) 05:34, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

But, a fictional state in a fictional series is, by definition, a fictional state. Your sheer number of edits is highly suspect.Wzrd1 (talk) 05:36, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
And if there were articles about those fictional states they would be properly classified there. "It has a fictional state in it" is not a justification for categorizing a real TV series as fictional. The TV series exists in the real world. The fictional elements of the series do not. Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "United States". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 25 December 2014.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.
Message delivered by MediationBot (talk) on behalf of the Mediation Committee. 15:52, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Your post at Request for Mediation

Thank you for your contribution, at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/United States, but it is a bit too early. You posted under “Additional issues (added by other parties)” an argument. TFD and Bkonrad (older≠wiser) have already elsewhere agreed to accept the territories in a footnote for area, which is a compromise from excluding the territories entirely. As you know I am agreed to include the territories.

What is called for now is your agreement to actively participate in a mediated dispute where you will try to accommodate with me and the others to arrive at a consensus. In the section directly below where you posted, --- under “Parties’ agreement to mediation” ---, if you agree to discuss the matter with an eye to a guided consensus, please add your name to the other eight editors listed there with the # Agree. ~~~~. If you do not agree to the process, see wp:requests for mediation, then Disagree and do not post anything further there.

At any rate, you might remove your previous posted argument from the “Additional Issues” section, as we do not yet have a volunteer mediator taking the case yet. Thanks. TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 11:18, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Request for mediation accepted

The request for formal mediation of the dispute concerning United States, in which you were listed as a party, has been accepted by the Mediation Committee. The case will be assigned to an active mediator within two weeks, and mediation proceedings should begin shortly thereafter. Proceedings will begin at the case information page, Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/United States, so please add this to your watchlist. Formal mediation is governed by the Mediation Committee and its Policy. The Policy, and especially the first two sections of the "Mediation" section, should be read if you have never participated in formal mediation. For a short guide to accepted cases, see the "Accepted requests" section of the Guide to formal mediation. You may also want to familiarise yourself with the internal Procedures of the Committee.

As mediation proceedings begin, be aware that formal mediation can only be successful if every participant approaches discussion in a professional and civil way, and is completely prepared to compromise. Please contact the Committee if anything is unclear.
