Theistic convictions

The Blessed Virgin Mary, Virgin mother of Jesus Christ.

On 25 February, 2006 he became a born-again theist due to reading into Near-death experiences; analyzing the verity of their existence and their impact on the affected individuals. Upon analyzing this—and relevant—information, he came to the conclusion that he now believes in the afterlife, as well as the existence of Jesus Christ, God and the Virgin Mary within afterlife realms. He dually notes, however, that his faith in the modern Catholic church and the authenticity of the Bible as the Word of God is somewhat limited.

Below is a list of underlying factors as to why CrazyInSane reverted to theism:

  • Edgar Cayce's documentation—including future prophecies, human/universe origins, etc.
  • Ned Dougherty's prediction of the 11 September, 2001 attacks through an NDE, verifyably published in March 2001
  • Significant similarities between NDEs—including the apparitions of Jesus, God, and other spirits.
  • Conversions from atheism to Christianity/other religion by many experiencers of NDEs
  • Explanation of "white light" / "God" as unexplainably blissful by experiencers.
  • Self–made theories as to why NDEs cannot be explained by any means other than the existence of the afterlife.

Titanic (history/film)

RMS Titanic on 2 April 1912.

Historical

The RMS Titanic was a vessel that sailed its maiden and final voyage from Southampton, England on 10 April 1912. There were 2,223 persons aboard and the ship was headed toward New York City. Main officials included Captain E.J. Smith, 1st Officer William Murdoch, 2nd Officer Lightoller, and several other crew members. Famous persons aboard included John Jacob Astor, Benjamin Guggenheim, and the Countess of Rothes. After failing to heed warnings, crew unintentionally steered Titanic directly into an iceberg field. At 11:40PM on Sunday, 14 April 1912, Titanic struck a mid-sized iceberg a few thousand miles northeast of Newfoundland, Canada.

Ship-builder Thomas Andrews quickly determined the ship would indeed founder and that all must evacuate the ship immediately. Several distress calls including the use of CQD and SOS as well as flares were dispatched with no immediate success. The nearest ship, the SS Californian, was unresponsive and the RMS Carpathia could only arrive in 4 hours. At 2:20AM on Monday, 15 April 1912, roughly three hours succeeding collision, Titanic sank into the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean. An approximate 1,500 people died, including the ship's Captain and 1st Officer. The wreck was discovered in 1985 by oceanographer Robert Ballard, and has been visited by many since, the latest dive being by film director James Cameron.

Eighty-three years after the RMS Titanic sank and claimed 1,500 lives, film director James Cameron set out to create what would become one of the most critically and monetarily praised films of all time. In August 1995, Cameron began production on a new film which was to be based on the factual account of the sinking of RMS Titanic in 1912. He intended this film to outweigh all Titanic-related films preceding it, including a low-budget made-for-TV movie which was released in 1996 starring Peter Gallagher and Catherine Zeta-Jones. He intended to recount the story with as much factual precision as possible, and as well included a love story subplot to the film. He cast Leonardo DiCaprio as the fictional Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as the fictional Rose DeWitt Bukater whom were to meet in dire circumstances on the ill-fated Titanic. The film was approximately three hours (180 minutes) long after the final edit, and included intensely realistic sinking sequences, the product of years of hard work from James Cameron and crew. In March 1998, the film won 11 oscars, including Best Picture. It has been classified as the highest-grossing film of all time, earning well over USD$1 billion in box-office sales alone. The film stayed in theaters for a record-breaking amount of months.

CrazyInSane's comments:

I've always been fascinated with the entire concept of the real Titanic and the 1997 film; both are absolutely entertaining and saddening tales of fact and fiction mixed together. Since 1995 I've been interested in Titanic, as I did school projects on the subject at that time. Since the 1997 release of Cameron's film, I must've watched at least one scene from the film over 500 times. This is what might be considered my main interest, but usually subsides as an interest at all for long periods of time. I own the 2005 release DVD-set as well, with all the bonus features.

Jurassic Park & The Lost World: Jurassic Park (films)

A series of two films produced by Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg.

In the early 1990s, famous film director and producer Steven Spielberg opted to create a franchise of films based on the dinosaur-based novels by Michael Crichton. With the help of special effects wizard Stan Winston and other film crew, Spielberg created what would be praised as one of the best dinosaur-related films of all time, as well as one of the best and highest-grossing films of all time. Production for the film began in 1992, and the combination of digital effects and animatronics created something far more realistic and amazing than anything before it. Even though there were two sequels for the film in 1997 and 2001, Jurassic Park is still hailed as both the best film of the franchise by far, and some even comment that the dinosaurs appeared most realistic in this film, made an entire eight years prior to the latest rendition. The film was released in 1993.

Credited Cast:
Sam Neill— Dr. Alan Grant
Jeff Goldblum— Dr. Ian Malcolm
Richard Attenborough— John Hammond
Laura Dern— Dr. Ellie Sattler
Bob Peck— Robert Muldoon
Joseph Mazzello— Tim Murphy
Ariana Richards— Lex Murphy
Samuel L. Jackson— Ray Arnold
Martin Ferrero— Donald Gennaro

The much anticipated sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park was released with copious media coverage in 1997. The plot continued with Jeff Goldblum's character from the original film, placing him in a dilemma of having to travel to the dinosaur-inhabited Isla Sorna in order to eradicate his girlfriend from the imminent danger. Richard Attenborough's character also makes a cameo appearance at the beginning of the film, but other main characters from the original film such as Sam Neill and Laura Dern's characters are missing. Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello also make a small cameo. This sequel is far more of an action-packed adventure than was the original, for which it recieved both praise and criticism. Steven Spielberg also directed this film but would not do so for the next sequel. John Williams also created the score for this film but would not again return.

Credited Cast:
Jeff Goldblum— Dr. Ian Malcolm
Vince Vaughn— Nick Van Owen
Pete Postlethwaite— Roland Tembo
Julianne Moore— Dr. Sarah Harding
Arliss Howard— Peter Ludlow
Richard Schiff— Eddie Carr

After much consideration that the franchise's third film, Jurassic Park III (2001), was a complete disaster, Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton have agreed that a fourth and final film will be written and created to "make up" for the 2001 flop. Due to the fact that Sam Neill also feels that his participation in Jurassic Park III was both unneccesary and a bad decision, many fear that he would not be willing to participate in a fourth and final wrap-up film. After Jurassic Park III was released in 2001, many felt that the franchise was downspiralling into B-movie territory, and discontinued their interest. The film was first rumored to have been in pre-production in 2002, and the release date was set for 2005. This would follow the traditional 4 years seperating Jurassic Park sequels (i.e. Jurassic Park in 1993, JP-2 in 1997, and JP-3 in 2001). However, a ever-changing plot caused a delay in post production and the film was scheduled for a Summer 2006 release. In 2005 rumors began to circulate that the film was canceled altogether, due to the fact that a 2006 release seemed impossible because pre-production had not yet begun. However, on 27 February, 2006, director Steven Spielberg announced he would be returning as executive producer for Jurassic Park IV, and that it would "definitely happen" with a release date circa 2008. As of the present time there is no information regarding the plot. Cast is also unknown.

CrazyInSane's comments:

My favorite film from the franchise, like most people, is definitely the original Jurassic Park. This film was the most cunning, innovative, and ground-breaking of all three films. All the characters seemed to fit into the plot perfectly, and all had something unique that I could like. I also feel, as do many, that the special effects in Jurassic Park were ironically superior to the special effects in both The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, even though the third film is eight years newer. Back at the time of release of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, I believe that my opinion stood that this film was superior to the original. I think this is because I was too young (only 9) to completely understand the dynamic plot of the original film. The second film is okay, but its astonishing to note the special effects are far more inferior than the original film thats 4 years older (especially evident in the velociraptor scene where Julianne Moore and Vanessa Lee Chester's characters are trapped in a building). Though I believe that the "San Diego scene" was unneccesary and sort of ruined the movie, I admit that it was quite entertaining for sure. Now, as for the third movie, you can see that there is no summary of it above and that its not listed as one of my "interests". This is because I detest the film and refuse to accept it as part of the Jurassic Park franchise, although it unfortunately is. I think it was a disgrace to Sam Neill and his character, as well as a completely horrible film altogether. I hold high hopes that the fourth film will be an excellent film and will be "Jurassic Park III" in my mind.

Casino Royale controversy

After the 2002 release of Die Another Day, officials with EON Productions began to believe that actor Pierce Brosnan (age 49 at the time) was too old to continue as Agent 007 James Bond. They did not want to fall into the same situation that arose in 1985's A View to a Kill, which had Roger Moore continuing as Agent 007 at the ripe old age of 58. Since many fans disliked A View to a Kill because of this, EON Productions decided soon thereafter that a new Agent 007 was needed. From 2002 to 2004, there were only rumors circulating that Brosnan was to be replaced, there were no confirmed reports. However on 14 October 2004, Pierce Brosnan himself revealed that "it's absolutely over"; he declared himself fired from the role. Mass confusion continued until 17 April 2005, when EON Productions finally revealed that "it would definitely not be Pierce Brosnan" in the upcoming 2006 Casino Royale. From the time Brosnan revealed that he was no longer Agent 007, an endless stream of new Bond possibles were revealed. Among the list were Ewan McGregor, Ewan Stewart, Dominic West, Colin Farrell, Eric Bana, and dozens more.

On 14 October 2005, EON Productions finally confirmed a new Brosnan successor: the English Daniel Craig. There were very mixed reactions to Craig's selection, in fact most were negative. Fans felt Craig was not suave, sexy, or smart enough to play the role of Bond. Also, because of his hair color, Craig was dubbed as "James Blond". Not only are some fans and critics disappointed with the selection of Craig, they are disappointed with the expectation that Casino Royale is taking the Bond franchise in an entirely new direction. Anti-Casino Royale Bond fans have created the site CraigNotBond.com, highlighting all the negative connotations with Daniel Craig. However, polar opposite sites have also been made, including CraigIsBond.net, whereas fans do the exact opposite, praising Craig as a fine selection for the franchise. Regardless of opinion, Casino Royale is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide in November 2006.

CrazyInSane's comments

He began to love the 007 franchise as soon as he saw the first film, Goldfinger (1964), starring Sean Connery. He watched quite a lot of the pre-1987 James Bond films starring Roger Moore & Sean Connery with his father on cable television in his early years. He of course loved the idea of such an action packed and adventurous film. He would have to say he enjoyed Sean Connery's performance a little more than that of Roger Moore. He never saw any of the movies starring Timothy Dalton or George Lazenby. His favorite Bond actor to date is Pierce Brosnan, who played bond when CrazyInSane was growing up. His favorite Bond film is The World Is Not Enough (1999). He also overly enjoys the games provided by Electronic Arts for his Xbox and formerly owned PlayStation consoles, especially the 2004 release of Everything or Nothing which is the last game to feature the likeness of Pierce Brosnan. CrazyInSane is really quite uneasy about the new cast selection for Bond, Daniel Craig. He feels Brosnan could've continued the role for a while longer, allowing EON Productions to find a better replacement. He is as of now unsure if he will watch Casino Royale.

Jesus of Nazareth

Christianity (religion)

An Abrahamic religion based on the Holy Scripture, the Christian Bible. This includes the Holy Trinity, including the historical Jesus of Nazareth (1 BC33 AD, traditionally)

Of importance:
Jesus of Nazareth—the "Christ" (meaning anointed)
God
Mary, the mother of Christ
Christmas—celebrates the birth of Christ (25 December by tradition; 7 January (O.S.))
Good Friday—emphasizes the crucifixtion of Christ
Easter—celebrates the resurrection of Christ

CrazyInSane's comments:

His interest in Christianity spawned mostly due to the fact he was exposed to its doctrine from 1988–2002, due to the fact my immediate family participates in the religion. Also, he find it interesting that the religion is under attack by mostly secularists, evident both with notable abolitions of the Christmas holiday, and the so-called 'necessity' to replace anno Domini terminology (AD/BC) with the Christian-neutral common era. The only conclusion he have gathered from these attempts is that there is a very evident discrimination against Christianity, not other religions, in the United States and Europe as well as its Commonwealth countries. As for his religious conviction, he was a Christian from 1998–2002, an agnostic/atheist from 2002–2006, and a spiritual theist from 2006–present.

Saved by the Bell (television)

A 1987 American Situation comedy that was formally released as Good Morning, Miss Bliss with The Disney Channel until 1989 when it was purchased from NBC studios. The series produced such spin-offs as Saved by the Bell: The College Years, Saved by the Bell: The New Class, and Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas.

Original Cast:
Dennis Haskins— Mr. Belding (1987–cancelation)
Mark-Paul Gosselaar—Zack Morris (1987–cancelation)
Dustin Diamond— Samuel "Screech" Powers (1987–cancelation)
Lark Voorhies— Lisa Turtle (1987–cancelation)
Mario Lopez— A.C. Slater (1989–cancelation)
Tiffani-Amber Thiessen— Kelly Kapowski (1989–1992)
Elizabeth Berkley— Jessica Myrtle Spano (1989–1992)
Hayley Mills— Miss Bliss (1987–1989)

CrazyInSane's comments:

His interest in the Saved by the Bell series began somewhat during his early years, whereas he was attracted to the show due to its humor and emphasis on average teenage life. His interests spawned when TBS networking began to air the program with 4 episodes at a time, from 8–10:00AM. Often when CrazyInSane would miss school, or during the summer, he would watch these episodes if awake. The hilarity, suaveness, and dark spirit of Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) had him quite interested. As for his feelings on the spin-offs, his favorite is the longest running original run, which was aired from 1989–1993 and included cast members Jessie Spano and Kelly Kapowski. He also likes Good Morning, Miss Bliss (re-named under the "Saved by the Bell" franchise) whereas only Zack, Lisa, Screech, and two other kids are cast. He also loves the character of Miss Bliss. He does, however, dislike the Saved by the Bell: The College Years, and his dislike appeared to have been shared due to the premature cancelation of this version.

A 1986 Canadian Children's TV series distributed by Noreen Young Productions and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, starring Holly Larocque and Bob Stutt.

Cast:
Holly Larocque—Holly Higgins
Bob Stutt—(voice) Iggy Iguana
Stephen Brathwaite—(voice) Jacob Bluejay
Noreen Young—(voice) Gloria Gopher

CrazyInSane's comments:

Being born in 1988, he grew up loving this little known television series. He watched the program alongside the Canadian kids' show Fred Penner's Place from 1990 to its cancellation in 1993. The show was revived on YTV, a Canadian TV station, from 1995–1997.

A 1971 Musical film directed by Mel Brooks, written by Roald Dahl and David Seltzer, and starring Gene Wilder and Peter Ostrum. Based on the 1964 novel by Roald Dahl. Added differiencations from the original book include an elaborated plot on the character Mr. Slugworth.

Credited cast:
Gene Wilder—Willy Wonka
Peter Ostrum—Charlie Bucket
Jack Albertson—Grandpa Joe
Roy Kinnear—Henry Salt
Julie Dawn Cole—Veruca Salt
Leonard Stone—Samuel Beauregarde
Denise Nickerson—Violet Beauregarde
Ursula Reit—Mrs. Gloop

CrazyInSane's comments:

One of his main interests, aside from promoting Christian culture. He enjoys the music, especially the song Pure Imagination, originally sung by Gene Wilder, and redone by several artists since 1971. (Mariah Carey, Maroon 5, Sammy Davis, etc.). He also is excited by the psychadelic vibe from the film.
