This page lists proposed article mergers as a supplement to the merge categories; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here.

When to propose a merger

Main page: Wikipedia:Merging

There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:

1): Mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;

2): Mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and

3): Mergers that are controversial, potentially difficult to carry out, or where at least one affected article is either rated Class B or higher or is over 100K in size will need assistance from uninvolved editor(s) in determining whether to merge the pages.

If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group above, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)

How to propose a merger

If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group above, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out a type 2 merge):

• Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the target article (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example ==Merger discussion==).
• Step 2: Put one of the Merge Request Banners (MRB) at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The merge request templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common banners used. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the same section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions going on at two different talk pages). (Merge Request Banners should NEVER be placed on article TalkPages.
• Step 3: If the proposed merge is type 3 (above) follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.)

Requests for merge assistance and feedback

If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:

• Tag the article as shown above
• Create a discussion as shown above
• Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
• If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, request help at Merge Talk for assistance.

For other topics:

• If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Wikipedia:Moving a page.
• Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have moved an article by this deprecated method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please do not perform further moves by cut and paste.

NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge

If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. After a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.

• Merge Baron Munchausen's Narrative of his Marvellous Travels and Campaigns in Russia into Baron Munchausen. While the novel could be argued to be notable in and of itself, Baron Muchausen already covers Raspe's work prominently and the current page for the novel is a repetitive stub. • Merge Stephen Paddock into 2017 Las Vegas shooting. Paddock is not notable outside of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting and therefore the content of his article can be condensed and contained within the event artcile. Because the Paddock article is of a controversial nature and B classification, uninvolved editor assistance is requested per item 3. Per guidelines, discussion started here on the target page. • Merge Bride kidnapping in Kazakhstan into Ala kachuu. The Kazakh terminology used is similar to that of the Kyrgyz term and is the same practice that is done in Kyrgyzstan. I feel that a few sections can be used for applications and laws against bride kidnappin in each of the two countries. • Merge List of Americans of Irish descent into List of Irish Americans. The criteria for these two lists are word-for-word identical: they include "both original immigrants who obtained American citizenship and their American-born descendants." None of the other lists in the Category:Lists of American people by ethnic or national origin have this kind of overlap. The naming convention for that category also uses the "List of x Americans" format, hence the proposed direction of the merge. Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 16:25, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
• Merge Victoria Leigh Soto into Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting. Wikipedia is not a memorial and does not have articles on any of the other teachers killed in the massacre or the shooter himself. • Merge British Lung Foundation and Asthma UK into a new Asthma and Lung UK article. These two organisations have merged and now operate as a single organisation, Asthma + Lung UK (ie they are defunct as separate entities). I've mentioned this on their respective Talk pages and added merge banners to each of them, but I don't think I've heard anything on this (apologies if I've missed it!) - so am flagging it on this page. I have a draft article ready if needed. Any advice on next steps welcome! KTnow (talk) 14:10, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
• Merge Greatest Hits! Part 1 into The Party Album (Vengaboys album). These are the same album, and a different album title (more specifically, one used in the group's country of origin) doesn't warranty a seperate page. On another note, the "standard" tracklist isn't listed on the (main) Party Album page and it has to link to the other, redundant page to display it. TapLover (talk) 08:27, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
• Merge Ernest M. McSorley into SS Edmund Fitzgerald. Wikipedia is not a memorial and he is a classic case of WP:ONEEVENT, only being known for being the captain of the ship the day it sank. • Merge Lauren Hill (basketball) into 2014 Hiram vs. Mount St. Joseph women's basketball game. Wikipedia is not a memorial and Hill does not meet WP:NBBALL as she did not play professional basketball or was even drafted by the WNBA before her tragic death. • Merge 4th and 26 into either 2003 Philadelphia Eagles season or 2003–04 NFL playoffs, or possibly both. The article might not be a stub, but it's still very short. • Merge 2000 New York synagogue firebombing and Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale. Wikipedia is not a newspaper and hate crimes are quite common in the world. This attack had no lasting impact as no one was killed or seriously hurt. • Merge Acer Aspire laptops into Acer Aspire. The Laptop specific article already uses text from the primary article, and only offers specifications for specific laptop models, like a product line-up. • Merge Dedicated freight corridors in India into Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India is the owner and the operator of the Dedicated freight corridors in India, having two articles on same subject is confusing. Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India is a govt. undertaking company that owns, operates the freight corridors. • Merge Certified registered nurse anesthetist into Nurse anesthetist. Per WP:REDUNDANT, as a CRNA is a type of nurse anesthetist certification and does not warrant its own page. Additonally, there is a considerable amount of information about the history of nurse anesthesia that is the exact same or extremely similar on each article.Invinciblewalnut (talk) 00:59, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
• Merge Geomatic engineering into Geomatics. This is the 2nd time the merge has been proposed, and the discussion has stagnated with one in favor in addition to the one who proposed the merge (me), and one against. I have requested feedback from users of both Wikiproject maps and Wikiproject geography. Merge is proving controversial and would need assistance from uninvolved editor(s) in determining whether to merge the pages. The merge discussion has been open since December, I don't want to act on a consensus of just two against one. Please note that there are potential plagiarism and source issues on the geomatics engineering page.

• Merge List of Disney XD TV channels and List of Disney Junior TV channels into Disney Branded Television. Disney Branded Television already covers some of Disney Junior and Disney XD so maybe they could all share. The latter two aren't very large. • Merge EagleCam into IM-1. I'm personally against this merge, and I'd like EagleCam to remain its own article, but the discussion is getting longer, less concise, and is heading towards a standstill / no consensus. • Merge Ultra-processed food and Hyperpalatable food into Nova classification. There are no real competing definitions of "ultra-processed food" to the Nova classification's definition, so there isn't really a need for a separate article. "Hyperpalability" is also a concept generally not discussed outside of the concept of "ultra-processed food", but as it does have an independent definition I'm more willing to be convinced it should be kept as a separate article.
